Jim Tauber, a longtime executive and the president of Sidney Kimmel Entertainment for a decade until his retirement in 2015, died Wednesday from complications of multiple myeloma, his family confirmed. He was 74.

Tauber, an Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences member, grew up in Glencoe, Ill. His time at Ske included overseeing “Hell or High Water,” “The Place Beyond the Pines,” “Lars and the Real Girl” and “Death at a Funeral.”

He spent the earlier part of his career at Columbia TriStar Pictures as executive VP of acquisitions and business/legal affairs, a position that allowed him to oversee production of films including Steven Soderbergh’s “Sex, Lies and Videotape.”

After that, he was president and chief operating officer of Propaganda Films, producing David Lynch’s “Wild at Heart” and Spike Jonze’s “Being John Malkovich” and contributing to the creation of Gramercy Pictures.

Tauber died Wednesday of complications from multiple myeloma, his family announced.

While most recently at Ske, Tauber oversaw such acclaimed films as Lars and the Real Girl (2007), Death at a Funeral (2010), The Place Beyond the Pines (2012) and the Oscar best picture nominee Hell or High Water (2016).

Before that, he helped launch Anonymous Content, which he eventually led as president and COO, and then served as worldwide executive vp acquisitions & co-productions for 20th Century Fox.

Tauber arrived at Anonymous from Propaganda Films, where he also was president and COO. While there, he produced 30 films, including Wild at Heart (1990) and Being John Malkovich (1999) and helped launch the distribution company Gramercy Pictures.

US film and television production and finance company Sk Global, best known for Crazy Rich Asians, has reportedly laid off around 20 employees in multiple departments.

Company representatives could not be reached for comment, but according to reports Sk Global has attributed the cuts to economic headwinds and last year’s US actors and writers strikes. The reports said all the company’s lines of business remain active and current and upcoming productions are on track.

Headquartered in Los Angeles, with offices in New York, Mumbai and Singapore, Sk Global produces studio features and television programming in English and local languages.

Sk Global, the production company behind “Crazy Rich Asians” and “Anyone But You,” has been impacted by layoffs, an insider with knowledge tells TheWrap.

Roughly 20 employees were affected across multiple departments, according to Deadline, which first reported the news.

In the face of significant industry changes over the past few years, including structural changes in the market and how media is developed, distributed and consumed, Sk Global had to carefully assess how they are operating the company for their continued growth and success, the insider noted.

As a business, Sk Global remains dedicated to creating premium content with cultural impact, and all of their business lines and current and upcoming productions will remain on track as they implement these changes, the insider said.

The production company was previously known as Sidney Kimmel Entertainment and was primarily known for bankrolling prestige dramas “Hell or High Water” and “The Place Beyond the Pines.

Eva Mendes says she may consider acting again if the right role came along — as long as it involved working alongside her husband Ryan Gosling. In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, the actress known for titles like The Place Beyond The Pines and Hitch opened up about the challenges she faced early in her career and what might bring her back to film roles.

While Mendes says she was “never in love with acting,” facing barriers like typecasting and ethnic bias made her determined to prove herself. “They would say ‘she’s too ethnic for this, too ethnic for that,'” Mendes recalled of casting calls in her early career. This “fueled” her to work harder. Although times changed and “being Latina became cool,” the obstacles stayed with Mendes.
