Griffons are powerful creatures mentioned in Dragon Age: Origins that appear in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. They are large, eagle-like beings with the bodies of lions, possessing sharp talons, powerful wings, and keen eagle-like eyesight. The griffons were what Grey Wardens rode into battle during the First Blight, and due to the horrific nature of the war, all griffons supposedly died out and went extinct. The books for the series touch on griffons a bit more and allude to them still being alive, but seeing them is a fun thing for players.
While players go through Dragon Age: The Veilguard, they'll eventually have to choose whether griffons return as the noble steed for Grey Wardens, or if they remain in their new environment of the Arlathan Forest. Of all the factions that can or will appear in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, one controversial faction being around is for the best. Veilguard continues the Dragon Age franchise by putting the player, codenamed Rook, into a war between ancient deities vying for control of the realm. Dragon Age: The Veilguard's new combat seems to be pushing the franchise in a new direction. Aspects of Inquisition remain while continuing to adjust to a more modern gaming ecosystem.
As with every Dragon Age game, the player will be joined by numerous companions throughout the story. There are currently seven known companions across the Rogue, Mage and Warrior classes. Even though only seven are confirmed for now, there are chances other companions, though likely in smaller roles, will pop up in the campaign.
