‘Vigilantes’ Is Doing Something with Koichi’s Quirks That ‘My Hero Academia’ Never Could
Image
Quirks define everything in the sprawling universe of My Hero Academia. A good quirk can make or break an individual in society. While Kohei Horikoshi has shown us several explosive powers with intricate complexities, he failed to show us how even the most mundane of quirks can be made awesome through creativity. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes has taken up this job by showing us the evolution of Koichi Haimawari’s Slide and Glide (a mundane quirk). The simple quirk steals the spotlight, and by the end of the series, it transforms into something extraordinary.

My Hero Academia has always overlooked the potential of simple abilities. Vigilantes, however, has embraced the underwhelming and has crafted a narrative that makes the ordinary feel extraordinary, and even heroic in ways. This is something the main series hasn’t been able to achieve.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes understands the beauty of the underwhelming Koichi...

Oasis Set To Return To North America For Concert Tour – Setlist & Ticket Deals
Image
Legendary rock band Oasis announced that after a 15-year feud between the two brothers, they have settled their differences and plan to embark on a 2025 North American tour.

Seven stadium dates in North America are set for next summer, with shows in Toronto, New Jersey, Chicago, Mexico City and Los Angeles, and various sources have reported that the band is also expected to tour outside of the continent later in the year. Celebrated rock group Cage the Elephant will open for the Britpop duo.

Brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher formed Oasis in 1991, and the band went on to produce some of the most prominent songs of the 90s. To this day, their hit ‘Wonderwall’ is the quintessential song men use to demonstrate their acoustic guitar skills, usually at parties or on dates.

Steven Spielberg: ‘I wrote the story based on this newspaper article’ on His First Feature Film That Marked His Hollywood Arrival
Image
Steven Spielberg has always had an eye for the extraordinary. Normalcy surrounding the everyday facets of life was not intriguing enough for the director, even as a bright-eyed 20-something-year-old filmmaker. For him, only stories that defied imagination and completely transported the audience to a land of impossibilities interested him enough to make it into a movie.

The Sugarland Express [Credit: Universal Pictures]

From Spielberg’s bottomless curiosity was born films like Jaws, E.T. the Extraterrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Jurassic Park. But it was also his need to unearth the mysteries of mankind that led Spielberg to tell stories based on true experiences, namely Schindler’s List, Catch Me If You Can, Empire of the Sun, Band of Brothers, and most importantly, The Sugarland Express – his feature directorial debut.

Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign ‘Vultures 2’ Review: Phoned in and Disconnected
Image
At this point, one expects a Kanye West album to be incomplete in some way upon release, but Vultures 2, his second collaborative album with Ty Dolla $ign, is in shambles. It’s marked by improper mixes, unfinished verses, demo-quality audio, and one track in particular, the otherwise heartfelt “My Soul,” is panned to one speaker. Of course, these are trivialities that West will eventually get around to fixing like he did with 2016’s The Life of Pablo.

But Vultures 2 represents a tipping point for West’s methodology of pushing the limits of a deadline, resulting in songs that sound either half-assed, such as the too-cutesy “Promotion,” or simply incomplete. Which, in some ways, might be the point: Like the first Vultures, this one leans more heavily on vibes and aesthetics than substance or emotion.

Ty does reliably good work here, but he’s more or less relegated to a supporting role,...

Ye and Ty Dolla $ign’s ‘Vultures 2’: It’s Time to Unsubscribe From the Kanye Disaster
Image
In February, Ye (the former Kanye West) shocked the music industry when Vultures I, the first of a planned trilogy with Ty Dolla $ign as Y$, opened at Number One on the Billboard 200 chart. It was only a year ago when Ye’s rank antisemitism and adoration of white supremacists prompted an exodus of corporate supporters. Then, with Vultures I, he joined a wave of “canceled” men reestablishing ties with polite society. Critics stung by his unrelenting anti-Black stunts grudgingly admitted that Vultures was impressively produced. “Kids love Kanye,” declared...

Oasis Unearth Early Recording Sessions for ‘Definitely Maybe’ 30th Anniversary Reissue
Image
Oasis will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their landmark 1994 debut, Definitely Maybe, with a fresh reissue that unearths the album’s initial, scrapped recording session and other outtakes.

Definitely Maybe (30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) combines the 2014 remaster of the LP — from the 20th anniversary edition — with recordings made at Monnow Valley studios on the Welsh borders, where Oasis originally set out to record after signing their record deal.

While attempting to recapture the band’s live sound, the recordings were deemed too polished and overly technical, so the sessions were scrapped,...

Fantasia Wants to Follow ‘The Color Purple’ by Starring in a ‘John Wick’ Movie: ‘I Want Something Where I Can Kick Ass’
Image
As Fantasia Barrino rides the awards season buzz for her feature film acting debut in “The Color Purple,” the “American Idol” winner is thinking of her next moves on the big screen.

“I want something very challenging,” Fantasia told Variety Tuesday night at Elle’s Women in Hollywood event in Los Angeles, where she was honored alongside her co-stars Danielle Brooks and Taraji P. Henson. “I want to step out and do a character you’d probably never think of me as.”

She added with a sinister laugh, “I want you to hate me.”

Fantasia suggests a “John Wick” movie or at least one that’s similar. “Was John Wick a villain?” she asked. “Maybe not, but he was kick-ass. I want something where I can kick ass!”

Fantasia Barrino, Danielle Brooks and Taraji P. Henson attend Elle’s 2023 Women in Hollywood.

Brooks said she’s open to another musical...

10 Awesome Glitches Zelda: Totk Doesn’t Have From Botw
Image
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has "improved" on Breath of the Wild by fixing many glitches present in the previous game. Glitches like Windbomb, Bullet-Time Bounce, Bow Lift Smuggling, Shield Clipping, Unbroken Throw, and Thunderclap Rush no longer work in Tears of the Kingdom. While some glitches have been removed, players can still find new exploits in Tears of the Kingdom and rely on tricks with proper timing to enhance gameplay.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom improved on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in various ways, which is pretty astounding, considering the success and acclaim that Botw managed to get since its original release. In addition to adding a plethora of gameplay elements, expanding the map, and including more content, Nintendo also fixed many glitches that were present in the predecessor title. While some of these glitches were completely game-breaking, others...

Frank Ocean Hints at New Album at Coachella, but Says "It's Not Right Now"
Image
Image Source: Getty / Theo Wargo

Frank Ocean broke all the rules in 2016. Marked by its heart-shattering vocals, "Blonde" was an intimate and expressive sophomore album met with critical acclaim and continued devotion from fans. From "Nikes" to "Godspeed," the sorrowful lyrics had us hooked, but before the static-laced notes of "Futura Free" trickled to a finish, he was gone. Now, seven years later, Ocean's hiatus may finally be coming to an end. During weekend one of Coachella, Ocean appeared as a headliner at the 2023 festival alongside Bad Bunny and Blackpink, where he addressed rumors that a new album is in the works.

"It's been so long. Everybody talks about how long its been," he told cheering fans, according to video footage shared on Twitter. "It's been so long but I have missed you. I want to talk about why I'm here because it's not because of the new album.

The 2019 Black List Presents the Year’s Best Unproduced Scripts
Julian Silver
The 15th annual Black List survey was revealed Monday December 16, and it includes 66 un-produced screenplays from up-and-coming literary talent. Results were pooled from a survey of more than 250 film executives, each of whom contributed the names of up to 10 favorite scripts that were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2019 and will not have begun principal photography during this calendar year. This year, scripts had to receive at least six mentions to be included on the Black List.

Since 2005, more than a third of the screenplays included in the annual Black List surveys have become produced films, and often to notoriety — such as “Argo,” “American Hustle,” “Juno,” “The King’s Speech,” “Slumdog Millionaire,” “Spotlight,” “The Revenants,” “The Descendants,” and “Hell or High Water.” Melina Matsoukas’s 2019 film “Queen & Slim,” written by Lena Waithe with a story co-authored by James Frey, was featured on the 2018 Black List.

James Bay at an event for 007 Spectre (2015)
Album Review: James Bay’s ‘Electric Light’
James Bay at an event for 007 Spectre (2015)
It’s been four years since the square-jawed, pork pie hat-wearing James Bay sprung the earnest-but-hip shaking gospel rock of “Hold Back the River.” Or in pop terms, an eternity. Just ask those pining for the return of Ireland’s own holy rolling Hozier — his bruised baritone was last heard in 2014 when the cascading “Take Me to Church” became a certifiable smash.

Bay was Hozier’s opening act then. A Brit who looked like Johnny Depp in “Benny & Joon,” he came on quietly and gangly, stooped over a strummed-hard acoustic guitar, and wound up outpacing the headliner with ardent, folksy romanticism. For that silty sound and stance, he eventually won over the U.K. and U.S. music execs with his troubadour’s warble and earthiness. His 2015 debut album, “Chaos and the Calm,” became the rustic antidote to Ed Sheeran, what with Bay’s rough-shod, intimate intertwining of blues,...

Thwaites, who is currently filming Gods of Egypt alongside Gerard Butler and Game of Thrones’ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, is certainly on his way to stardom, and he said working with more experienced Hollywood actors has been a huge step forward for him. Brenton Thwaites Gets Huge Break in 'Maleficent'
Ever since Disney announced "Maleficent," the live action adaptation of their classic animated hit "Sleeping Beauty," fans have been wondering who would step into the role of Prince Charming (aka Prince Phillip for those nitpickers out there).

After all, with Angelina Jolie on board as the iconic evil sorceress, the film would need someone equally awesome to battle her dragon form. Michael Fassbender, maybe? Matt Damon? Perhaps even Brad Pitt himself?

Well, all that speculation has finally come to an end, as according to Deadline, Disney has decided to give the role to... Brenton Thwaites!

And if anybody had ever heard of Brenton Thwaites, that would probably mean something.

Luckily, though, that's where we come in. And no, Disney hasn't gone completely off the deep end; Thwaites isn't actually obscure, he's just Australian, which may seem like the same thing but isn't. Instead, Disney is hoping that Thwaites can break...

‘Maleficent’ Finally Casts Its Young Prince, Some Aussie Guy Who Will Be Everywhere Soon
Disney has finally cast the cherry on top of its long-gestating revisionist take on the Sleeping Beauty myth, setting up young Aussie actor Brenton Thwaites to play the prince to Angelina Jolie‘s evil Maleficent and Elle Fanning‘s innocent Princess Aurora. In the classic fairy tale, the part is generally referred to as Prince Phillip, but Deadline Evil Dark Woods doesn’t let on if that will be the case in Robert Stromberg‘s take on the tale. Despite his name, Thwaites is not a type of bread and he’s also not a knock-off of clothing brand Benetton, he’s one of those Aussie actor kids who cut his teeth on two of their many, many television series. Thwaites did a ten-episode run on SLiDe and also starred on continual favorite, Home and Away. He’ll next be seen as the male star in Lifetime’s take on The Blue Lagoon, next...

Caitlin Stasey on Tomorrow sequel: My involvement may be over
Omnilab Media may remain committed to developing the sequel to 2010 blockbuster Tomorrow, When the War Began but the film's star, Caitlin Stasey, feels her involvement in the project is over.

The actress, who won an If Award for her performance as Ellie Linton in the adaptation of the best selling John Marsden novel, believes that if a second film does eventually go ahead, it may not feature the original cast members.

"You always hear things, you always hear that someone's writing it, that someone's putting it together," says Stasey. "Nothing has happened until it happens. Unfortunately for the Tomorrow series, I feel that for the actors that were in the first film, maybe our commitment to it is done."

Tomorrow, When the War Began, which was written and directed by Stuart Beattie, was the highest grossing Australian film of 2010, taking $13.48 million at the box office. In February 2011 it was announced...

Fox8′s Slide goes transmedia on August 16
Fox8′s original new teen drama Slide, premiering on Tuesday August 16, 7.30pm, promises heavy audience interaction.

Shot entirely on location in Brisbane, Slide is a 10 part series created specifically for Fox8 co-produced by Playmaker Media (David Taylor/David Maher) and Hoodlum (Nathan Mayfield/Tracey Robertson).

Slide is about five teenagers’ move into adulthood with each episode set over 24 hours and built upon a group heist that leads the group into unknown territory.

Described by executive producer David Taylor as embracing a “user-driven approach – we didn’t assume what 17-year-olds wanted in a drama series or how they wanted it, we asked them. We learned from this demographic that they didn’t want it to be bleak and it needed to be like nothing else on TV. Importantly, they wanted a sense of ownership.” As a result audience testing was extremely important to the producers from the beginning of development.

“We...
