In a heartfelt tribute to her late mother, Kelly Preston, Ella Bleu Travolta has released her latest single, “Little Bird,” which reflects on her grief and memories.
The song is featured on her upcoming EP, Colors of Love. At 24, the only daughter of John Travolta and Kelly Preston shared in an interview with People magazine that the experience of creating the track helped her feel her mother’s presence.
“I definitely felt [Preston] watching over me,” Ella told People, adding, “I knew that she was really proud of this whole process and of me.”

Ella explained that growing up in the public eye brought attention, especially when dealing with personal loss. “There’s definitely the natural support and global support that comes with that,” she said.

John Travolta’s daughter Ella Bleu Travolta paid tribute to her late mother Kelly Preston with a touching new song, “Little Bird.”
In the ballad, Ella sings about the weight of grief, wishing she could hear mom say, “My little bird, don’t you cry, hear my lullaby it’ll be alright.” The visuals accompanying the song feature a compilation of home videos giving a glimpse at the Travolta family’s joyful moments, including birthdays, plane rides, trips to Times Square’s since-shuttered Toys R Us and swims in their pool.
A day before releasing the track, Ella wrote on Instagram, “‘Little Bird’ is about a beautiful time in my life. I spent the last two years thinking about what I wanted this song to be, only for it to be written over night. This song is about the celebration of life.”

Update: The "Megalopolis" trailer was pulled by Lionsgate after it came to light that it included made-up quotes from critics. "Lionsgate is immediately recalling our trailer for 'Megalopolis,'" a Lionsgate spokesperson said in a statement provided to Variety. "We offer our sincere apologies to the critics involved and to Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope for this inexcusable error in our vetting process. We screwed up. We are sorry." The rest of this article has been left as it was originally written.
Francis Ford Coppola may very well be our greatest living filmmaker, so the looming release of his first feature in 13 years would be a major cinematic event at any juncture in his career. One would be forgiven for not knowing it, but a new exorcism movie starring Oscar-winner Russell Crowe hit theaters this past weekend. No, we're not talking about last year's "The Pope's Exorcist." Rather, we are talking about a brand new film from Vertical Entertainment simply titled "The Exorcism" that was, more or less, dumped after sitting on the shelf for several years. Unfortunately, the film is a flop in the early going by most metrics. However, it now holds a record for the folks at Vertical, representing the company's biggest opening weekend ever, amazingly enough.
Director Joshua John Miller's "The Exorcism" opened to $2.4 million, coming at number seven on the charts behind John Krasinski's "If" ($2.7 million), a movie in its sixth weekend in theaters that is already on VOD. Not exactly a blockbuster. That said, the number was big enough to overtake 2018's "Gotti" ($1.7 million) to become Vertical's biggest opener.

Quick Links The Dreaded PG-13 Rating A Mobster Movie that Doesn't Understand Mobsters Outdated Tropes and Wasted Talent Forced Humor 1995's Get Shorty nailed the mob-movie formula, adding a Hollywood twist to old mobster tropes, taking full advantage of the source material. The sequel, Be Cool, lacked the same attention to detail and charisma that defined the first movie, in part due to its inexplicable choice to aim for a PG-13 rating. Be Cool lacks an understanding of the mobster mentality, relying on a generic, safer brand of comedy to tell a more conventional story that impressed very few Elmore Leonard readers or fans of the first film.
Concocting the perfect gangster movie is harder than it looks. "Don't ever take sides with anyone against the family," and "Dont get high on your own supply," are lines that immortalized The Godfather and Scarface in the crime genre and pop culture.

When I first moved to New York in 2017, I made a work friend who quickly became a close friend. One of the many things we bonded over was a shared love of John Travolta's lesser known movies. More specifically, I was impressed at how much joy my new friend was able to derive from the actor's career. I'd be lying if I said that joy stemmed from a genuine appreciation of the man's work, but I think he harbored a strange kind of respect for Travolta, as if any man who could put out "Look Who's Talking Now" or "Gotti" and still maintain some sort of career was deserving of admiration. As such, we planned a massive Travolta marathon which we sadly never got around to.
But if we ever did get around to taking a journey through the dregs of Travolta's career, Rotten Tomatoes might be a decent guide.

Finding success in TV and film during the 1970s, back when he was still in his early 20s, John Travolta is one of those actors who feels like hes been around and in films both good and bad forever. Its a career thats seen its share of ups and downs, as well as comebacks and misfires across the board. Films like Gotti, Battlefield Earth, and The Fanatic are notoriously bad, sure, but Travoltas also been front and center of some classics in his time.

Although now he primarily stars in low-budget crime films, action thrillers, and future cult classics (such as the bizarre stalker film The Fanatic and the misguided mafia biopic Gotti), its easy to forget that John Travolta was once the most popular young romantic heartthrob of his generation. Travolta had immediately established himself as an actor of charisma, humor, and dramatic intensity with his roles in Carrie, Saturday Night Fever, and Grease, which showed that he could apply his unique personality to nearly any genre scenario. However, long before directors like John Woo and Quentin Tarantino put him back on the map, Travolta showed that he had what it took to be a leading man in James Bridges romantic drama Urban Cowboy. It wasnt just the most mature role that Travolta had ever done before, but the film proved that he was willing to question the identity he had so carefully constructed within his past roles.

It is ideal to go big or go home when making a movie. This idealist attitude swings both ways, as instead of creating a cinematic masterpiece, you create a hilariously awful movie that is forever canonized. Perhaps it's more advantageous to be comically inept rather than forgettably inept, but with a film like Gotti, being a film of such poor quality is concerning. This film aspires to be a modern gangster film classic. While the genre has produced some of the great films in history--ones that are timeless and revisited by multiple generations of viewers, misguided attempts at reaching the same heights as The Godfather and Goodfellas often result in colossal creative failures. Simply put, Gotti got everything wrong, and that's why it developed the same notoriety as its titular subject.

Dan Wallin, the music scoring engineer who recorded such classic film scores as “Spartacus,” “Bullitt,” “The Wild Bunch” and “Out of Africa,” died early Wednesday in Hawaii. He was 97.
Twice Oscar-nominated for best sound (1970’s “Woodstock” and 1976’s “A Star Is Born”), he won a 2009 Emmy for sound mixing on the Academy Awards telecast and received two additional Emmy nominations in the sound mixing category.
But it was Wallin’s skill behind the console, recording and mixing musical scores for movies and TV, that won him legions of fans among nearly all of Hollywood’s top composers and ensured steady employment for more than half a century.
He recorded the music for an estimated 500 films, including those for “Bonnie and Clyde,” “Cool Hand Luke” and “Finian’s Rainbow” in the 1960s; “The Way We Were,” “Blazing Saddles,” “Nashville,” “King Kong” and “Saturday Night Fever” in the 1970s; “Somewhere in Time,” “The Right Stuff...

Heading into the 81st Golden Globe Awards, legendary performer Harrison Ford is eligible for two different small screen prizes – Best TV Drama Actor and Best TV Supporting Actor – thanks to his respective turns on the inaugural seasons of “1923” and “Shrinking.” These possible dual bids would come 22 years after he was named the 48th recipient of the Cecil B. Given the fact that 33 other DeMille awardees will have preceded him in subsequently landing regular nominations, it only makes sense to analyze those instances to determine just how great his chances of victory at the 2024 ceremony really are.

One would be forgiven for having absolutely no idea that a new action/comedy starring Jon Cena and Alison Brie hit theaters this past weekend. "Freelance" did, indeed, arrive in more than 2,000 theaters and was straight-up buried by the horror sensation that is "Five Nights at Freddy's." It would be one thing for a movie to come in second -- or even third place -- against a blockbuster release like that. Unfortunately for those behind this film, however, it barely made it into the top 10.
Relativity Media's "Freelance" opened to just $2 million, coming in at number eight on the charts for the weekend, per The Numbers. It made less than "The Nightmare Before Christmas" ($2.1 million), which is in the second weekend of its 30th anniversary re-release, and little more than "Saw X" ($1.7 million), which has been in theaters for five weekends. Sal Polisi played a significant role in the Italian American Mafia and New York organized crime scenes, being associated with both the Gambino and Colombo crime families. Polisi became disillusioned with the Mafia and eventually aided the feds in their pursuit of mobsters like John Gotti, testifying against his former associates in several trials. After his involvement with the Mafia, Polisi has become a successful public speaker, author, and Hollywood producer while running Ubatz Productions with his wife.
Sal Polisi's role within the mob as a whole — and what happened to him after John Gotti's trial — is one of the more compelling aspects of Get Gotti. While there is rarely any enjoyment to be found in watching an awful film, there is something uniquely maddening about the experience of sitting through Entourage actor Kevin Connolly’s 2018 biopic Gotti. The film’s script is such a jumbled and incoherent mess that it’s tempting to think the screenwriters tossed their scene cards into the air and assembled them at random. The movie is riddled with gangster clichés that make it feel like a parody. But perhaps worst of all is the film’s inexplicable and immoral level of sympathy for its murderous titular character. This bizarre glorification of a mobster is ultimately what elevates Gotti from a misfire to a film that is arguably bad for humanity, and one that has received a devastatingly rotten score of 0 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Since the Silent Era, theatrical releases have been a prime pastime, thanks to larger-than-life stories and the sense of silent community in theaters. Because of this dominance, big-screen films tend to overshadow many made-for-tv movies, regardless of quality. Such films get commissioned by networks or streaming services and are often produced on lower budgets, but shouldn't be scoffed at.
Despite the medium's undue reputation as being worse in quality, plenty of fabulous made-for-tv films have been made. The best have great plots, thought-provoking dialogue, and performances that elevate the material beyond the smaller screen viewing.

Vampires are taking a wacky bite out of summer. In Season 5 of FX and Hulu’s “What We Do In The Shadows,” Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) looks for a vampire who can give him the transformation that Nandor the Relentless has kept from him. But it may not go as planned. The beloved comedy, which takes a mockumentary look at four vampires living in Staten Island, returns on July 14.
Check out the Season 5 trailer of “What We Do In the Shadows”:
Another highly anticipated return coming to Hulu in July is the latest season of long-running animated series “Futurama.” The show’s first four seasons aired on Fox from 1999 to 2003, it was then picked up by Comedy Central for three seasons from 2008 to 2013. Now, nearly a decade later, the Mike Judge-created series will return for the first half of the 20-episode Season 8 on July 24 with the original voice cast.

At the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off Tuesday, six titles — not counting midnight screenings or the TV series The Idol — will screen “out of competition,” meaning with a big red carpet premiere and the heavy media coverage that accompanies one, but without eligibility for festival prizes.
They include fest opener Jeanne du Barry, starring Johnny Depp (following in the footsteps of star vehicles ranging from 2011’s The Beaver to 2018’s Gotti); fest closer Elemental, from Pixar (animated pics are almost never invited into competition); franchise flick Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (a 2008 Indiana Jones pic also screened out of competition, as have installments of Kill Bill, Matrix, Oceans, Star Wars and X-Men); and cineastes’ most highly anticipated title, Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.
Among those, Killers is a unique case, in that fest director Thierry Fremaux revealed in April that it was — and remains — invited to screen in competition.

Can MoviePass give movie theaters an even bigger boost on the second go-around? The newly rejuvenated subscription-based program is attempting a slow-rolling comeback.
They recently nabbed additional seed funding from Animoca Brands, a Hong Kong-based game software, blockchain and venture capital company. The seed round also included Claritas Capital, Emerald Plus, Gaingels, Harlem Capital, Pko Vc and Sandhill Angels. More financing rounds are expected at the end of 2023 or in 2024.
“10 a month for unlimited movies at any participating theater was always doomed,” co-founder, former owner and now current CEO Stacy Spikes argued during a conversation with TheWrap.
Spikes, whose book “Black Founder: The Hidden Power of Being an Outsider” debuts on Jan. 24, stated that “unless you own the theaters, you need some kind of variable pricing. One thing I can tell you is that putting the price below a single ticket just wasn’t logical.”

The New York gangster—otherwise known as the Teflon Don, the Dapper Don—was a Caesar, an Emperor… a King. His flamboyant lifestyle and frequent public trials as the head of the Gambino crime family, which controlled New York’s largest organized-crime syndicates, made him not only a prominent figure in the 1980s and ’90s, but also one of the most well-known organized crime bosses in American history. Gotti’s rise from a loyal soldier to Boss of Bosses, and ultimately to his sentencing to life imprisonment after being betrayed by his underboss, Sammy Gravano, is legendary.
