After brothers Bill and Turner Ross screened their new film for the first time at SXSW earlier this year, they went to lunch with representatives of Oscilloscope Laboratories, the film distribution company started by the late Beastie Boy Adam Yauch.

"Things came together pretty quickly after that," recalls Bill Ross to Rolling Stone. "It seemed so right. It was a perfect fit for us."

Having grown up listening to the Beastie Boys, Ross had a "geek-out moment," he says, as soon as he realized he'd be partnering with Yauch's company.

Jason Segel (The Muppets) will star in and co-write The Other F Word, based on the eye-opening documentary about aging punk rockers now that they're dads and have to worry about Families and Finances. Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3, Sherlock Holmes 3) pitched the idea with Segel to 20th Century Fox and will write the script with him. Segel has written The Muppets, The Five Year Engagement and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Both Segel and Pearce will also executive produce. 

This film isn't to be confused with The F Word which stars Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan as singles who have instant chemistry at a party but since she's in a relationship, must stay just friends.

Released last year, The Other F Word is one of the biggest music-related documentaries in a long time, featuring such names from the punk-rock scene as Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus, skater Tony Hawk, Rhcp’s Flea, and many more, on the subject of Fatherhood – the other F word..

And following on from the documentary’s warm reception amongst fans and critics alike, Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother) and writer Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) have now sold a pitch to Fox to turn the film into a feature comedy.

Deadline reports that Jason Segel and Drew Pearce are teaming up to bring the 2011 documentary about punk rockers who eventually become fathers (that's "the other F word" they're hinting at) to the big screen as a narrative feature. The original doc featured interviews with Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, as well as members of Rise Against and Blink-182, and told the rather ironic story of guys who raged against authority in their youth only to grow up and become the ultimate authority figure: a dad.

Andrea Blaugrund directed the original documentary, which followed a group of aging punk rockers as they transitioned into parenthood. Jason Segel will star as one such dad. And while the documentary featured plenty of high profile rockers, including Art Alexakis, Flea, and Lars Frederiksen, it is unclear if they will return for cameos, but it is very likely.

There is no production start date set for The Other F Word's comedy adaptation.

The process of rebelling is often against your own past and, in that spirit during the magic of SXSW, The Other F Word is a compelling documentary I happened to stumble into after being talked out of seeing a different film on the bus ride over to the theater. The documentary chronicles punk rockers turning 40, having families and having to tour to pay the mortgage (to the man!).

Academy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning director Andrea Blaugrund Nevins‘ The Other F Word opens around the country this month and next via Oscilloscope Laboratories. Most rock-centric documentaries fall into one of two camps: the hagiographical tributes to artists that frame and justify a performer's failings within the larger picture of his battles for success, and the warts-and-all examinations that tend to use the excesses of said performers as evidence of the inherent vapidity in the field. A good example of the former is pretty much any episode you ever saw of VH1's "Behind the Music," which today airs sporadic episodes profiling chart-toppers like 50 Cent but between 1997 and 2006 would spend 44 minutes running every conceivable artist through the same template of success-excess-redemption. For the producers of the series, drug abuse and infighting were an end in themselves. We all know what the “standard” version of a father figure is supposed to look like, sound like, and do for a living, but what about those kids who preferred getting tattoos and outrageous hairstyles to express themselves? What happens when those punk rock kids grow up? Get married? Start families? When people who are known for stirring the pot and pushing their boundaries suddenly become role models? While I claim to be a tomboy and up until the age of 22 or so I couldn't imagine having babies (I was scared to even hold one lest I drop it), lately my ovaries have been crying out every time I see a tiny pair of shoes. Thus, when I saw the synopsis for The Other F Word at SXSW, I knew it was a documentary I Had to see; it's a narrative following various iconic punk rock musicians around as they discuss the responsibilities and life-changing aspects of going from anarchist role models to daddies.

The film is directed and written by Andrea Blaugrund, a strong female who rocked a leather jacket and motorcycle boots at the premiere. She is obviously in love with counterculture, and had been friends with Jim Lindberg of Pennywise for a long time. She was made...

When Roger Daltrey first sang "My Generation" and said he hoped he'd die before he got old, just how old was he talking about? The guys's 67 and not only is he not dead, he's still singing that song. That's the weird thing about rock stars: they get older but their songs -- and their fans -- stay the same age. When Jim Lindberg started the punk band Pennywise, he was 23. Now he's in his mid-40s with a wife and three young daughters. On stage, he's still the same obnoxious guy he was two decade, singing about effing authority. Off stage, his big concern is making sure he's home from touring in time for the big father/daughter dance. Reconciling those two sides of his personality is hard and getting harder.

That's why I liked the documentary "The Other F Word" about Lindberg and a whole generation of punk rockers who have become parents.

This is a brilliant idea for a documentary: how do punk rockers, the ultimate symbols of anti-authority, deal with the pressures of the 'other' f word, fatherhood, the ultimate position of authority? That's the subject of "The Other F Word," directed by Andrea Blaugrund Nevins and based on the memoir "Punk Rock Dad: No Rules, Just Real Life" by former Pennywise lead singer Jim Lindberg. Lindberg's friend (and eventual "F Word" producer) Cristin Reilly read the book, loved it, thought it would make a good movie, and brought it to Nevins.

I spoke with Nevins, Reilly, and Lindberg about the film and fatherhood (can you believe Lindberg brought his daughters to Austin for SXSW? Now that's a cool dad) along with Morgan Spurlock, who serves as "The Other F Word"'s executive producer.

Morgan Spurlock takes in a pre-screening chat with sales company Submarine's Josh Braun at SXSW Saturday afternoon. Crowds filed in for directors Michael Tucker and Petra Epperlein's Documentary Competition film, rumblin' & tumblin' and delightfully bloody "Fightville." Spurlock is attending the festival with "The Greatest Movie Ever Sold" and "The Other F Word," in which he is an executive producer.

Austin, TX – So what is exactly ‘the other F word? A documentary directed by Andrea Blaugrund aims to answer that question by following a handful of aging punk rock musicians, and rebellious figures, who over the course of their lives decided it was time to settle down and take on the challenge of, fatherhood.
