After brothers Bill and Turner Ross screened their new film for the first time at SXSW earlier this year, they went to lunch with representatives of Oscilloscope Laboratories, the film distribution company started by the late Beastie Boy Adam Yauch.
"Things came together pretty quickly after that," recalls Bill Ross to Rolling Stone. "It seemed so right. It was a perfect fit for us."
Having grown up listening to the Beastie Boys, Ross had a "geek-out moment," he says, as soon as he realized he'd be partnering with Yauch's company.

Jason Segel (The Muppets) will star in and co-write The Other F Word, based on the eye-opening documentary about aging punk rockers now that they're dads and have to worry about Families and Finances. Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3, Sherlock Holmes 3) pitched the idea with Segel to 20th Century Fox and will write the script with him. Segel has written The Muppets, The Five Year Engagement and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Both Segel and Pearce will also executive produce.
This film isn't to be confused with The F Word which stars Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan as singles who have instant chemistry at a party but since she's in a relationship, must stay just friends.

Released last year, The Other F Word is one of the biggest music-related documentaries in a long time, featuring such names from the punk-rock scene as Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus, skater Tony Hawk, Rhcp’s Flea, and many more, on the subject of Fatherhood – the other F word..
And following on from the documentary’s warm reception amongst fans and critics alike, Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother) and writer Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) have now sold a pitch to Fox to turn the film into a feature comedy.
Segel will be taking the lead in the film, and will be co-writing with Pearce, with both set to executive produce.
The project was hotly contested by a number of studios, before Fox snapped it up – and with Segel and Pearce both pitching, it’s not difficult to imagine why.

Jason Siegel and Drew Pearce are planning a film based on The Other F Word. Here’s a scripting team-up we’re not sure many could have predicted: Forgetting Sarah Marshall / The Muppets co-writer / star Jason Segel and Iron Man 3 scribbler Drew Pearce have hatched a deal to adapt Andrea Blaugrund Nevin’s 2011 documentary The Other F Word into a new film for Fox.The doc talked to aging punk rockers (including the likes of Tony Adolescent, Jim Lindberg, Joe Escalante, Flea, Lars Friedriksen and skateboard legend Tony Hawk) about how Lindberg’s life in particular changed from being a raging anti-authoritarian to taking on the biggest challenge: becoming a dad.Nothing is known about the film’s plot, though given Segel is starring, we figure it’ll follow him as a bloke trying to figure out fatherhood for the first time as he reconciles it with his past. After all, he has some experience of screen fatherhood as Marshall in How I Met Your Mother.

Jason Segel and Drew Pearce have sold a feature film remake of last year's documentary "The Other F Word" to 20th Century Fox says Deadline.
Andrea Blaugrand Nevins' doco explored the world of aging punk rock musicians as they transition into fatherhood and try to maintain the contrast between their anti-authoritarian lifestyle with the responsibilities of being dads.
Blink-182′s Mark Hoppus, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, and Rise Against the Machine’s Tim McIlrath were all involved in the original.
Segel will star in this feature remake, and will co-write and executive produce with Pearce ("Iron Man 3," "Sherlock Holmes 3").

If The Other F Word sounds familiar to you, that's because it's already a movie title.
Deadline reports that Jason Segel and Drew Pearce are teaming up to bring the 2011 documentary about punk rockers who eventually become fathers (that's "the other F word" they're hinting at) to the big screen as a narrative feature. The original doc featured interviews with Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, as well as members of Rise Against and Blink-182, and told the rather ironic story of guys who raged against authority in their youth only to grow up and become the ultimate authority figure: a dad.
The collaboration between Segel and Pearce (who's co-writing Iron Man 3 as well as Godzilla and Sherlock Holmes 3) seems like a weird one considering their previous filmographies, but it should be interesting to see what kind of comedic situations they can mine from this material. Segel...

Jason Segel is set to turn the 2011 documentary The Other F Word into a feature comedy for 20th Century Fox, selling the pitch alongside co-writer and executive producer Drew Pearce.
Andrea Blaugrund directed the original documentary, which followed a group of aging punk rockers as they transitioned into parenthood. Jason Segel will star as one such dad. And while the documentary featured plenty of high profile rockers, including Art Alexakis, Flea, and Lars Frederiksen, it is unclear if they will return for cameos, but it is very likely.
There is no production start date set for The Other F Word's comedy adaptation.
The Other F Word was released November 2nd, 2011 and stars Tony Adolescent, Art Alexakis, Rob Chaos, Chris De Wolfe, Joe Escalante, Flea, Lars Frederiksen, Josh Freese. The film is directed by Andrea Blaugrund.

Last year's documentary The Other F Word explored the difficulties aging pop-punkers have coping with newfound fatherhood, and while one might say, "What Comedy Is Left To Be Mined From That Ridiculous Premise?" all loud like that, because they listen to too much pop-punk, Jason Segel is now set to adapt it into an actual comedy. Segel and Iron Man 3 writer Drew Pearce have sold the concept to Fox as a starring vehicle for Segel, who will presumably star as a guy who slowly realizes that it's super hard for a guy in his late 30s to ...

Getting old is a bitch. When you are a tattooed, pierced and foul-mouthed punk rocker . getting old.s even more of a pain in the ass. These troubles were captured by documentarian Andrea Blaugrund Nevins. 2011 film The Other F Word, which caught up with aging rockers like Blink 182.s Mark Hoppus, The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Flea and Pennywise.s Jim Lindberg as they settle into fatherhood. For those of us who grew up on the catchy beats and jangly guitars of bands like Nofx and Everclear, and are now trying to raise our own kids, F Word was pretty compelling. Jason Segel also hopes that the material can be pretty funny. The Muppets star reportedly is co-writing a comedic pitch riffing on The Other F Word with Drew Pearce, and the duo has sold the pitch to 20th Century Fox, according to THR. Jason Segel and Drew Pearce have sold a high profile pitch to Fox. The duo will write and executive produce a narrative feature film adaptation of the documentary The Other F Word. The doc, which features interviews with rock artists like Flea, Mark Hoppus, and Tim McIlrath, focuses on aging rock stars trying to balance their punk rock views with the responsibilities of fatherhood. Segel and Pearce—the scribe behind Iron Man 3, Sherlock Holmes 3, and the upcoming Godzilla reboot—will write the script with Segel set to star in the film. Segel is no stranger to screenwriting as he previously penned the fantastic Forgetting Sarah Marshall and co-wrote The Muppets and The Five-Year Engagement. The actor seems a tad young to take on a father role here, but I’m inclined to believe that he and Pearce have come up with an interesting take on the premise and...

Jason Segel and music, are like peanut butter and chocolate. The actor rarely heads into a project that doesn't have him contributing at least a bit of musical flavor, whether it's slappin' de bass with Paul Rudd while listening to Rush in "I Love You Man," creating a vampire puppet theater show in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," trying to live his dream as the drummer of Dimension in "Freaks And Geeks" or just going all-out with the Muppets in "The Muppets." But now, he's going to put a safety pin through his ear and spike that hair up. Segel and Drew Pearce ("Iron Man 3," "Godzilla") have sold a pitch to Fox that will find them adapating Andrea Blaugrand Nevins' documentary "The Other F Word" into a feature film. Nevins' flick was a fairly tepid look (read our review here) at real-life punk rockers, who are also Dads, and the complications and compromises that ensue.

Based on the book “Punk Rock Dad” by Pennywise frontman Jim Lindberg, The Other F Word takes a look behind the punk rock scene and into the homes of some of today’s punk rock heroes. Gone are the nihilistic days of lore, the days of sex, drugs and anarchy. The punks we grew up with are now grownups themselves, parents teaching their own kids the ways of the world. Director Andrea Blaugrund Nevins explores what it means to be a punk rock dad today. At times hilarious, at others heartbreaking, The Other F Word is the story of changing lives within an ever-changing subculture.

The process of rebelling is often against your own past and, in that spirit during the magic of SXSW, The Other F Word is a compelling documentary I happened to stumble into after being talked out of seeing a different film on the bus ride over to the theater. With a tone that wavers between surprise and sympathy, The Other F Word explores the world of punk rock musicians who have become fathers -- and discovers that they're pretty much like all other fathers. Shocker! The documentary, directed by Andrea Blaugrund Nevins, is certainly engaging, and the interview subjects are gregarious, generally forthcoming, and frequently funny, acknowledging the contradictions in their lives that are obvious to outsiders. Yet it's hard for me to shake the feeling that I was watching the pilot for a reality TV show. Perhaps I've watched too many episodes of The Osbournes. Punk rock has its roots in the early 70s New York alternative art scene. It became political after New York bands like the Ramones toured England, where economic...

"You might say hey, maybe punk rock was never meant to grow up -- but it did, so too bad. We're in uncharted territory," Bad Religion's Brett Gurewitz, also the owner of Epitaph Records, says early in Andrea Blaugrund's documentary The Other F Word. Billing itself as a "coming of middle age story," this earnest and intermittently lovable look into the lives of prominent punk rockers who've gone on to become responsible fathers doesn't break as much ground as it seems to hope and believe.

When Roger Daltrey first sang "My Generation" and said he hoped he'd die before he got old, just how old was he talking about? The guys's 67 and not only is he not dead, he's still singing that song. That's the weird thing about rock stars: they get older but their songs -- and their fans -- stay the same age. When Jim Lindberg started the punk band Pennywise, he was 23. Now he's in his mid-40s with a wife and three young daughters. On stage, he's still the same obnoxious guy he was two decades ago, still singing about effing authority. Off stage, his big concern is making sure he's home from touring in time for the big father/daughter dance. Reconciling those two sides of his personality is hard and getting harder.

Punk-rock dad doc "The Other F Word" has been jointly acquired by Oscilloscope Laboratories and Showtime Networks. Directed by Andrea Blaugrund Nevins, "The Other F Word " premiered at the SXSW Film Festival and includes fatherhood testimonies from an assortment of present-day and former punk-rock performers. Oscillioscope plans a fall theatrical release, with Showtime broadcasting the film in 2012. Here's the logline (and Adam Yauch's quote, because why not): ...

I think I can safely say IFC covered the crap out of South by Southwest 2011. Stephen Saito and I reviewed over fifteen films and interviewed over forty filmmakers during our ten days in Austin. That's way more films covered than hours either of us slept. Here now is a complete archive of everything we did: reviews, video interviews, and print interviews. At the bottom, you'll also find mine and Stephen's picks for the five best films at this year's SXSW. Enjoy. I know we did.

Most rock-centric documentaries fall into one of two camps: the hagiographical tributes to artists that frame and justify a performer's failings within the larger picture of his battles for success, and the warts-and-all examinations that tend to use the excesses of said performers as evidence of the inherent vapidity in the field. A good example of the former is pretty much any episode you ever saw of VH1's "Behind the Music," which today airs sporadic episodes profiling chart-toppers like 50 Cent but between 1997 and 2006 would spend 44 minutes running every conceivable artist through the same template of success-excess-redemption. For the producers of the series, drug abuse and infighting were an end in themselves. On the other side of the spectrum, you've got fascinating documentaries like Dig!, a riveting look at the egotistical brawling between the members of The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols. The film is utterly engrossing, but...

We all know what the “standard” version of a father figure is supposed to look like, sound like, and do for a living, but what about those kids who preferred getting tattoos and outrageous hairstyles to express themselves? What happens when those punk rock kids grow up? Get married? Start families? When people who are known for stirring the pot and pushing their boundaries suddenly become role models? But as it happens, we all grow up eventually, some of us just happen to do it with tattoos emblazoned across our foreheads. The Other F Word delves into the world of fatherhood with a punk rock twist and does so with such heart and honesty by the end of the film you just see a group of dads, regardless of their outward appearance.

While I claim to be a tomboy and up until the age of 22 or so I couldn't imagine having babies (I was scared to even hold one lest I drop it), lately my ovaries have been crying out every time I see a tiny pair of shoes. Thus, when I saw the synopsis for The Other F Word at SXSW, I knew it was a documentary I Had to see; it's a narrative following various iconic punk rock musicians around as they discuss the responsibilities and life-changing aspects of going from anarchist role models to daddies.
The film is directed and written by Andrea Blaugrund, a strong female who rocked a leather jacket and motorcycle boots at the premiere. She is obviously in love with counterculture, and had been friends with Jim Lindberg of Pennywise for a long time. She was made...

On stage, he's still the same obnoxious guy he was two decade, singing about effing authority. Off stage, his big concern is making sure he's home from touring in time for the big father/daughter dance. Reconciling those two sides of his personality is hard and getting harder.
That's why I liked the documentary "The Other F Word" about Lindberg and a whole generation of punk rockers who have become parents.

This is a brilliant idea for a documentary: how do punk rockers, the ultimate symbols of anti-authority, deal with the pressures of the 'other' f word, fatherhood, the ultimate position of authority? That's the subject of "The Other F Word," directed by Andrea Blaugrund Nevins and based on the memoir "Punk Rock Dad: No Rules, Just Real Life" by former Pennywise lead singer Jim Lindberg. Lindberg's friend (and eventual "F Word" producer) Cristin Reilly read the book, loved it, thought it would make a good movie, and brought it to Nevins.
I spoke with Nevins, Reilly, and Lindberg about the film and fatherhood (can you believe Lindberg brought his daughters to Austin for SXSW? Now that's a cool dad) along with Morgan Spurlock, who serves as "The Other F Word"'s executive producer.

Morgan Spurlock takes in a pre-screening chat with sales company Submarine's Josh Braun at SXSW Saturday afternoon. Crowds filed in for directors Michael Tucker and Petra Epperlein's Documentary Competition film, rumblin' & tumblin' and delightfully bloody "Fightville." Spurlock is attending the festival with "The Greatest Movie Ever Sold" and "The Other F Word," in which he is an executive producer.

...Or we should say "Cheat Sheets" since this year's SXSW Film Festival boasts over 140 films, requiring more than just one page to cover every single one of the narrative and documentary features that will be playing in Austin from March 11th through 19th. While the festival has already provided a very helpful schedule to flip through and Pdf of the screening grid online, consider this your quick hit guide to all the features at the festival - every title leads to its corresponding festival page in addition to links to trailers, official sites, filmmakers' Facebook pages and Twitter accounts so you can follow the action from the festival or from home.
Meanwhile, there will be plenty of action during these next two weeks on IFC.com where, in addition to our live video page, Matt Singer (@mattsinger) and I (@mfrushmore) will be filing reviews and interviews throughout the film festival.

Austin, TX – So what is exactly ‘the other F word? A documentary directed by Andrea Blaugrund aims to answer that question by following a handful of aging punk rock musicians, and rebellious figures, who over the course of their lives decided it was time to settle down and take on the challenge of, fatherhood.
The film follows Jim Lindberg formerly of Pennywise, and features interviews with Blink 182′s Mark Hoppus, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, Tony Hawk, and more, as they open up about family life, and conforming to the institution that they once rebelled against.
The Other F Word with it’s focus on musicians, seems fitting for SXSW. It will screen at the following times:
Sat 03/12 @ 8:30 Pm (Alamo South Lamar – 1120 South Lamar Blvd)
Mon 03/14 @ 9:00 Pm (State Theatre – 719 Congress Ave)”
Thu 03/17 @ 4:30 Pm (Vimeo Theatre at Acc -500 East Cesar Chavez Street, Austin, TX) http://www.
