The Vault is a combination heist and horror picture; and it’s the rare genre mash-up where each element’s equally strong.

Though it could do with being weirder and wilder, this high-concept mash-up — what if crooks robbed a haunted bank? — features fine work from a brace of rising stars.

This genre hybrid has its moments — way more than several of the films this week being made widely available to critics. It won’t change your life, but it won’t make you angry either.

There’s a reasonable premise to this horror-thriller, but also something straight-to-rental about the look and feel of the whole thing.
