Michael Bay & Post Malone partner with Vault Comics to create a new universe and feature film based on an original idea from the chart-topping artist
Image
Between appearing in a minor role for Doug Liman’s Road House, singing alongside Taylor Swift on the chart-topping hit “Fortnight,” and making history with the first-ever RIAA-certified Double-Diamond single, everything is coming up Milhouse for Post Malone. Not content to rest on his laurels, Malone is partnering with Michael Bay, Brad Fuller’s Platinum Dunes, and Vault Comics to create an all-new IP universe based on an original idea from the unstoppable auto-tune-loving artist.

According to Deadline, Malone’s idea is inspired by George Miller’s beloved thriller Mad Max: Fury Road and demonic horror films like Evil Dead. Post Malone’s universe is set in medieval Europe, where the only thing standing in the way of the horde of demons infesting the continent is a mysterious armored 18-wheeler seemingly sent back from the heavens.

Netflix Pornhub Documentary History: How Did Porn Videos Start?
Image
When Pornhub launched in 2007, it was the first website to make porn widely available to watch online. Many adult performers lauded the website for allowing them to earn money on their own terms, without having to negotiate with studios.

But with great porn comes great responsibility, and in the 16 years since the site was founded, Pornhub has become criticized for carelessness, including allegations that the site hosted nonconsensual uploads documenting real acts of violence and child sexual abuse. Those claims are detailed in the documentary Money Shot: The Pornhub Story, and have attracted the ire of sex work abolitionist organizations, some of which are disguised as groups opposing sexual exploitation and sex trafficking. Pressure from these groups has led to a wave of censorship of sex workers on the internet, which takes away their ability to earn money on a safe and secure platform.

Money Shot follows performers,...

German comedy drama ‘The Zweiflers’ wins top prize at Canneseries
Image
German comedy drama The Zweiflers was named best series at the seventh annual Canneseries festival that ran April 5-10 in Cannes.

The six-part series produced by Turbokultur from creator and showrunner David Hadda about a colourful Jewish family in contemporary Germany also won the prize for best music and the High School Award for Best Series voted upon by local students.

Led by an ensemble cast, the series centres on the inheritance of a family delicatessen as the past and future clash among several generations of Zweiflers.

Hadda told Screen of the win, “It was really always my dream to bring the series to Cannes.

Canneseries Awards: ’The Zweiflers,’ ‘Rather Burn’ Take Top Prizes
Image
Fockers who? Meet “The Zweiflers” instead: Brand new winners of Canneseries.

Created and showrun by David Hadda, the show picked up multiple awards at the French TV fest on Wednesday, including best series and music. Selected as a Variety Hot Pick earlier this month, “it’s destined to be billed as a Jewish ‘Succession’ set in contemporary Germany, with all the baggage that can bring to the table, Variety wrote.

That being said, its creator had another dysfunctional family on his mind.

“My biggest influence was ‘The Sopranos’ and I always said I wanted to do a Jewish ‘Sopranos’! The idea was to change the narrative from the victims’ perspective in Germany to a Jewish patriarch and Holocaust survivor who had lost everything – and everyone, and then came back to rebuild his life. That was empowering for me,” said Hadda.

Produced by Turbokultur for Ard Degeto Film and Hessischer Rundfunk,...

Newen Studios’ Anagram Widens Scandi Footprint With Acquisition of ‘Money Shot’ Finnish Shingle Just Republic (Exclusive)
Image
Fast-expanding Scandi production group Anagram, credited for the first Disney+ Nordic original series “To Cook a Bear” and hit series “Thin Blue Line,” has taken a stake in Helsinki-based Just Republic, becoming the largest owner of the Finnish production outfit, Variety has just learned.

Recently founded by producer Sasu Norhomaa and creator/writer Jemina Jokisalo – formerly at Solar Republic – the banner is in the limelight at Canneseries with the porn biz comedy “Money Shot,” due to world premiere April 9 at the TV festival’s short form competition.

With this acquisition, Newen Studios-owned Anagram, has added Finland to its Swedish and Norwegian production divisions and consolidated its position as a heavyweight provider of quality films, series and live entertainment in the Nordics.

“Our aim is to be a true pan-Nordic operation,” said Miira Paasilinna, Anagram COO and Anagram Sweden’s managing director. “We are active in Sweden and Norway and...

Finnish Comedy About Feminist Porn ‘Money Shot’ Heads to Canneseries, Gets Trailer: ‘It’s Definitely Not Another Nordic Noir!’ (Exclusive)
Image
Update: Finnish comedy “Money Shot,” about an ex-porn star venturing out of her comfort zone, is heading to Canneseries. The producers have also shared a first trailer with Variety.

Sari, now in her forties, gets fired from her last role. Forced to find a new way to make a living, she teams up with Linnea – an aspiring director who struggles to get into film school. They start to make feminist erotic films and begin a journey to fulfil women’s desires. As well as their own.

Produced by Solar Republic and sold by Federation Studios and Nordisk Film, it stars Pihla Viitala as Sari and Reetta Ylä-Rautio as her new – and unlikely – partner in crime. Paula Vesala, Mikko Kouki, Jukka Puotila and Alex Anton are featured as well.

“It’s a comedy about making feminist porn. It’s sweet and daring, and it makes you laugh. I’m not just...

Industry Insiders Call for Complexity – and Honesty About Menopause – as Sex & Crime Threaten to Take Over New Finnish Shows: ‘Easy is Not Always Best’
Image
No surprises there: Sex and crime still work when it comes to attracting viewers. But even when playing with familiar tropes, it’s crucial to add complexity to stories and characters, Fremantle’s Jamie Lynn argued on a roof table at the Berlinale Series Market.

“Easy is not always best. You still need to back great writers and great ideas,” he said during a panel discussion “Cold Cases & Hot Flashes – The Rise of Crime and Relationship Dramas in Challenging Times,” organized by the Audiovisual Producers Finland (Apfi).

“I have kids and before this, I said: ‘You have to put cheese on the vegetables in order to get them down.’ We have to make the shows that are approachable, but all this complexity and great, rich character work, that’s what people want. We just need to get them in quicker.”

Lynn was presenting new pickup “The Revenge,” described as “The Talented Mr. Ripley...

Moneyshot: The Pornhub Story Review: The Problem Isn’t Sex, It’s Social Media
Image
Don’t be put off by the unnecessarily crude name – Moneyshot: The Pornhub Story is a thought-provoking and tastefully created documentary. And even if you’re familiar with Pornhub’s recent controversies, it’ll almost certainly tell you something new.

For instance, it may seem counterintuitive that at its heart, MindGeek’s Pornhub is a pretty run-of-the-mill tech company, which former employee Noelle Perdue describes as “a hilariously boring office space”.

That makes it all the more remarkable that Pornhub has become such a controversial website that it deserves its own Netflix documentary, charting its meteoric rise, eventually becoming the world’s most popular porn site and changing the game for porn performers, and its subsequent explosive fall from grace, becoming the centre of an ongoing row where it is accused of profiting from the likes of child sex trafficking and revenge porn.

We discover that the key to...

A Frank Talk With the Ex-Pornhub Employee in Netflix’s ‘Money Shot’
Image
As one of the most well-known tube sites in the industry, to the degree that its opening music is a meme on TikTok, Pornhub has become a prime target for the religious right’s war on smut. Most recently, the website was subject to litigation filed by Ncose (the National Center on Sexual Exploitation), a right-wing organization formerly known as Morality in Media. The group also spearheaded a public relations campaign against Pornhub following a New York Times op-ed by writer Nicholas Kristof alleging the website was deluged with clips of sexual abuse,...

‘Money Shot: The Pornhub Story’ Review: A Netflix Documentary Explores the World’s Reigning Porn Site and the Clampdown On It
Image
Pornography, as a visual medium, has long followed the lead of technology. First it was drawn by hand. Then it was photographed. Then it was shown in back rooms on 8mm one-reelers. Then it was shown in movie theaters. Then it moved to video cassettes and DVD. Then it arrived on the Internet. Then, in the age of Pornhub, it exploded on the Internet. That’s when porn-on-the-computer innovation became the all-porn-all-the-time revolution.

“Money Shot: The Pornhub Story,” a documentary that drops March 15 on Netflix, is not a movie about the cultural prominence or significance of porn in our time. Someone should really make that documentary; it’s a story that, like so much else about pornography, is totally out there yet hidden in the shadows. “Money Shot,” directed by Suzanne Hillinger and produced by Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions, does touch on key aspects of how porn today is...

Why I Chose to Appear in Netflix’s Controversial Pornhub Documentary
Image
“Another day, another request to talk about Pornhub.” That’s what I thought when director Suzanne Hillinger and Oscar winner Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions asked me to appear in their new Netflix documentary Money Shot: The Pornhub Story.

The film recounts how Pornhub exploded in popularity until The New York Times’s Nicholas Kristof and sex-trafficking victim advocates accused the streamer’s parent company, MindGeek, of hosting vile illegal child pornography and rape videos. Hillinger promised the film would show how right-wing Christians deployed sex-trafficking allegations as a Trojan...

Pornhub Documentary ‘Money Shot’ Chronicles Its Sex Trafficking and Censorship Scandals
Image
Netflix’s upcoming documentary “Money Shot” tells the story of one of the world’s most-visited websites — Pornhub.

Featuring interviews with sex workers, activists and ex-employees of the porn giant, the film, premiering March 15, “offers a deep dive into the successes and scandals of Pornhub,” per Netflix.

More specifically, “Money Shot” chronicles how Pornhub fundamentally changed adult entertainment, allowing erotic content to reach a massive audience and turning pornography into a multi-billion dollar industry. The doc explores the allegations of non-consensual material and trafficking on the site, and Pornhub’s subsequent crackdown on its own content.

“Knowingly profiting from sex trafficking is what we believe they are liable for,” says one interview subject in the trailer. Adds another subject: “The more I explored, the more aghast I became. I found too many cases of kids whose worst moments were preserved in amber.”

As activist organizations fought against Pornhub to protect victims of sex trafficking,...

Netflix Announces Pornhub Documentary [Updated]
Image
Netflix will get a little less Sfw on March 15th, 2023. The streamer has set a premiere date for Money Shot: The Pornhub Story, an upcoming documentary about the popular, yet controversial sex video website. Update: Watch the newly released trailer below.

Pornhub was founded in 2007 and subsequently changed the course of the adult entertainment industry — for better and for worse. Though the billion-dollar website proved extremely lucrative and allowed content creators to reach an astronomically large audience, it’s also received a spike in backlash from users, including allegations of non-consensual material and sex trafficking.

That controversy came to a head in February 2021 when Pornhub’s parent company MindGeek was hit with a civil class action lawsuit that accused the website of hosting explicit videos of victims of child sex trafficking. To make matters worse, MindGeek has also been critiqued for its monopoly over the porn industry, as they own...

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Jessica. How did you come up with the idea for your new film, The Haunting of Alice D?

Jessica Sonneborn: I wanted to create a “cabin in the woods” style horror movie with a major twist that made it unique from other films like it. I was trying to think of something that could be done on a shoestring budget, but that also had some depth to it.
