So the story is not an original one ,, watched a couple of movies about that that "ghoul" or "djin" that comes to you while you're paralyzed in sleep .. but to be fair ,, there was actually more than a couple of creepy seat jumping moments ... I mean it wasn't all bad ,, even the ending was just a bit improbable if i might say.
The cast were all good ,, Olga Kurylenko did a good job ,, such a talented beauty ,, I loved her back in 2007 Hitman ,, and to be honest haven't seen her much since ... That Dougie character "Craig Conway" was also really good.
Overall ,, Not the scariest movie in history ,, but it's not bad at all ... watch it at 2:00 am and you'll know what i mean :D

Some of the ratings are too hard on this movie in my opinion. Mara was not amazing, but I genuinely enjoyed it! The plot was predicatable, but the acting and atmosphere still made it hold my attention. There were a few cheesey moments that were supposed to be scary, but it was surprisingly visually appealing and had pretty decent makeup for a low budget movie. I would rate it a 6.5, but since that's not an option I'm giving it a 7. I would consider watching it again at some point in the future.

First of all, i want to give credit to Olga Kurylenko because have done a good job in this movie as criminal psychologist Kate Fuller, who investigates the murder of a man and is haunted by demon who kills people in their sleep. Unfortunately, the storyline in this movie is too slow and boring. This film can make you fall asleep in the cinema. So Disappointed .

Idk why everyone is rating it so low. Was it the best movie I've ever seen? Definitely not. But it wasn't the worst either. There were plenty of areas that could have been improved but I kinda liked it overall. It's not a "blood and guts" movie and isn't full of terrifying jump scenes but does have a sort of sense of doom hanging over it that no matter what "Mara" will get you eventually. I do think some of the acting at times wasn't believable and I was a bit annoyed at some of the choices they made when putting it together. But for a low budget film it wasn't bad.

Utterly predictable, not interesting. The visuals are nice, and Olga tries hard, but it doesn't help much. This film doesn't even need spoilers for you to know what's going to happen.

I read the reviews and I went into this movie thinking it was gonna be bad. This movie freaked me the hell out. It was slow at first but the atmosphere put me on the edge then when it started moving faster it just pushed me over; it was over-whelming and I did gasp in quite a few parts. I'm a grown woman and I took my phone with me to the bathroom cause I was scared of the dark. It was a scary movie and good for that genre. I definitely would recommend this movie!

I liked the concept and the poster so gave it a chance.
It's a good horror film. Starts slow. First half is really good, the atmosphere was creepy. Olga Kurylenko was broken but likeable which is very hard to pull off in a horror film.
Olga Kurylenko plays her role very well, from the beginning there is a sense that she is not well fitted in the world, may be running from something, may be hiding something. Those little facial expressions make sense as the film goes on.
The film focuses on Olga's decent to madness which is ironic and there are few creepy/scary scenes here and there to keep things interesting.
The film could have been a lot better. I would have loved to learn more about Mara's history, they could have focused more on the victims agony but it could have been a lot worse.
The film deserves 6.5+ I rated it 8 because I liked how it ended.

If your a serious horror fan keep going. This is not for you, this is for people who think they like horror but find things like the children's writing in the opening credits CREEPY. OOOOHHHHH. Seriously, this is a joke. And it's not personal or politics so I'm not going to hype it up cuz I FEEL BAD FOR THE REVIEW. IT'S A TERRIBLE, AWFUL, GARBAGE MOVIE. 0 stars.

Everything you need to know is in the first 5 minutes. The mystery of the link among the characters' deaths is not exposed at all during the movie, nor is it "cleverly hidden". This was as bad as the last Amityville movie.
01/12/2019 Lots of female screaming. Lots of quick, sharp bangs with the occasional creep-O music/sounds. Not impressed with this movie in any way. Glad it's over. Hope I never watch it again. Bon Appetit

Not gonna waste my time telling you what the movie is about or who stars in it. You already know because this review is BELOW the plot summary and csat list. Also, I am not trying to build a career as an imdb reviewer.
This movie is a fun scary movie. Not a blockbuster hit kind, but a good solidly scary movie with all the required elements but performed and directed well enough to enjoy all those elements once again.
But for one thing, why so dark? They always make them dark now. It's like they don't realize people actually have lightbulbs and light switches on every wall. Afraid of the dark? Then by all means walk down the long dark hall without flipping a single switch She even takes a bath in the dark. Give me a break. I'm too busy trying to see what's in the dark to get scared about what I don't ever end up seeing.
Other than that, it's fun.

The concepts behind Mara were well thought out and made sense. I had some problems with the slow pace of the story at times, but overall the movie is worth a watch.

I rather enjoyed this film. It didn't act like a typical horror film nor was it a typical thriller. I liked that it had identifiable act breaks, midpoint, etc (which you don't find in all horror films these days) but it also didn't follow a strict story structure (which seems to be becoming more and more popular). Although the film didn't have any sections that were too slow, it did race through some detail that could've been used. If this were a drama I'd be a little more critical but being a horror film I think it was all in all well done. Plus it had turning an extra light on for the first couple nights, so it did it's job.

REVIEW - MARA
Have you ever woken up during the night, not being able to move, feeling paralysed?
The night hag or old hag is a creature sighted by various peoples of all countries world wide which is used to explain the phenomenon of sleep paralysis.
It is a phenomenon during which a person feels a presence of a supernatural malevolent being which immobilizes the person as if sitting on his/her chest or the foot of his/her bed.
The sightings were firstly documented 400 years BC.
Another variation of this has been described as Aliens holding a person sleeping down, either way this is a very enjoyable film using this centuries old documented phenomenon.
Scientists have suggested that this state is the transition between light sleep and REM sleep where the brain releases a hormone which puts our bodies into this REM sleep, but what if?............
While we are sleeping we are at our most vulnerable, expecting the sheet or quilt to protect us, pulling it up over our heads and hiding under it.
Have you ever woken up during the night, not being able to move, feeling paralysed?
What if?

This move was completely average - not horrible, not great. The idea behind this movie was interesting, but its execution fell a little flat with me. I just really didn't feel that much tension, plus the ending was predictable.
