The BFI has appointed Mia Bays as the new director of its Film Fund.

Joining for an initial three-year term, Bays will lead the strategic and cultural direction of the BFI’s investment of National Lottery funds into supporting U.K. feature film production. At approximately £30 million a year, it is the largest public fund in the UK for film and filmmakers, as well as new and emerging talent through BFI Network.

Bays is currently director-at-large for Birds’ Eye View, a U.K. charity that centres the female perspective in film and campaigns for gender equality in the industry. She will remain in a consultancy role with Birds’ Eye View and intends to return there at the end of her three-year contract with the BFI Film Fund.

Bays will take up her new role in October, based between London and Nottingham.

Show almost anyone a picture of Riz Ahmed and they’ll be able to place him in something. It could be from Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker’s 2008 Big Brother zombie invasion satire, Dead Set. It might be as Aaron Kalloor, the Mark Zuckerberg techno genius who occupied one of the more interesting threads from Jason Bourne. More realistically, it’ll be from last year’s billion dollar Star Wars blockbuster, Rogue One, in which he played conflicted pilot Bodhi Rook. The point is, you can’t pigeon hole the guy.

Take this week’s City of Tiny Lights, in which Ahmed plays a London private eye investigating the case of a missing sex worker. The film might drown in its own dimly lit gloom, but the fact you stick with it is down to another chameleonic performance from the young Brit. You can read our review here.

Zodiak Rights has boarded documentary The Greatest Ironman which follows a father’s attempts to raise awareness of Duchenne a fatal muscle-wasting disease affecting his son.

The Greatest Ironman, produced by fledgling indie Salon Pictures, is due to begin filming next month and will track Alex Smith as he bids to complete a triathlon in a record-breaking time while carrying his 8 year old boy.

Peter Williams MBE is directing the film which will air as a 60 or 90 minute feature.

It will be produced by Salon’s Paul Van Carter and Nick Taussig, whose two sons also suffer from the disease.

London-based production company Sums Film & Media has released the first image to emerge from the set of its new production Jet Trash, which has just completed filming in Goa, India.

The Birds Eye View Film Festival (April 8-13), celebrating women’s work in film, has revealed details of its 2014 programme including works by British director Destiny Ekaragha and Laura Checkoway to films by Lena Dunham and Kelly Reichardt.

The festival will also celebrate inspiring female filmmakers and actors of recent times including the late pioneering animator Joy Batchelor, Broadway legend Elaine Stritch and award-winning British filmmaker Gurinder Chadha.

British actor Ed Skrein, best known for playing Daario Naharis on HBO's Game of Thrones, has been set to star as Frank Martin in EuropaCorp's Transporter reboot.

Jason Statham played Frank Martin, a highly-trained driver who transports goods with no questions asked, in 2002's The Transporter and its sequels The Transporter 2 and Transporter 3. The reboot will take the story back to the original Transporter's setting of the French Riviera. The story will give more depth to Frank Martin's character, exploring his relationship with his father, a role which EuropaCorp is eyeing for a prominent actor.

Former "Game of Thrones" star Ed Skrein will take over the role of Frank Martin in the $30 million reboot of the "Transporter" franchise at EuropaCorp.

Jason Statham played the role in the previous three films, while Chris Vance took on the role in the TV series version. This proposed new trilogy of films features a younger Frank Martin which 30-year-old Skrein will now take on.

Though he's had roles in films like "Ill Manors," "The Sweeney" and "Piggy," Skrein is probably best known for his work in the role of Tyroshi warrior and Daenerys love interest Daario Naharis in the most recent season of "Game of Thrones".

Principal photography has commenced on Top Dog, produced by Richwater Films, on location across London.

Directed by Martin Kemp (The Krays), it is produced by Jonathan Sothcott (Vendetta, Assassin) andwritten by Dougie Brimson, based on his original novel.

Four Lions actor Riz Ahmed will star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in new movie Nightcrawler.

Screenwriter Dan Gilroy will make his directorial debut on the dark thriller based on his own script, The Wrap reports.

Gyllenhaal will star as a young man who is drawn into the world of Los Angeles freelance crime reporting.

Rene Russo and Bill Paxton will also feature in the movie.

Gilroy will produce Nightcrawler with his brother Tony Gilroy. The pair collaborated on the screenplay for The Bourne Legacy.

Ahmed also appeared in Plan B's movie Ill Manors as Aaron.

Kannada-language film Lucia directed by Pawan Kumar has won the Audience Award at the 4th London Indian Film Festival that concluded recently.

The crowd-funded film revolves around an usher at a decrepit cinema who suffers from insomnia. His life changes when he starts getting weird and wonderful dreams but with a caveat. Set in the teeming young metropolis that is Bangalore, the film is a turbulent ride where the lines between dreams and reality are blurred to delirious effect. Lucia features Sathish, Shruthi Hariharan, Hardhika Shetty and Achyuth Kumar.

Bond movie wins film prize and BBC2's Twenty Twelve scoops comedy, while London 2012 cauldron takes visual arts gong

James Bond movie Skyfall, London Games comedy Twenty Twelve and the Olympic cauldron were among the winners at the 2013 South Bank Sky Arts awards.

The 23rd James Bond outing won the film prize at the awards ceremony, hosted by Lord Bragg in London at Tuesday lunchtime.

Continuing the Olympic theme, the visual arts award went to Thomas Heatherwick's London 2012 cauldron, while Twenty Twelve helped the BBC to a clean sweep in the TV categories, picking up the comedy prize.

Tom Stoppard's BBC2 adaptation of Ford Maddox Ford's Parade's End won the drama award, in an all-bbc shortlist also featuring Shakespeare adaptations The Hollow Crown and police thriller Line of Duty.

Tom Hiddleston picked up the Times breakthrough award for his acting in The Hollow Crown and films including War Horse and Avengers Assemble.

The 2013 Brit Awards, hosted yesterday (February 20) at London's O2 Arena, proved once again that England makes (and appreciates) better music than we do, with top awards going to Adele, Frank Ocean, newcomer Emeli Sandé, Mumford & Sons and The Black Keys along with performances by Justin Timberlake (see below), Taylor Swift, Ms. Sandé, Mumford, Muse, One Direction, Robbie Williams and Mr. Howard. (Let's just politely ignore the fact that Lana Del Rey won anything over Cat Power, agreed?)

With the biggest night in UK music coming to an end, the 2013 Brit Awards named the year's winners during an exciting ceremony at London's O2 Arena on Wednesday evening (February 20).

Taking home the top prize of Best British Album was Emeli Sande, while other big victors included Adele winning Best British Single and Mumford & Sons scoring a prize for Best British Group.

Aside from the awards, viewers saw a handful of all-star performances from big names including Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake and One Direction.

On top of all the thrilling action, Tom Odell took home the Brit's Critics Choice Award honoring his countless achievements.

London — One Direction, Justin Timberlake and Mumford & Sons are getting ready to perform Wednesday at Britain's leading music awards, where nominees include the late soul diva Amy Winehouse.

Mumford & Sons, Emeli Sande and Alt-j lead the nominations for the Brit Awards, with three each.

Winehouse – who died in July 2011 from accidental alcohol poisoning – is up for best British female artist. She is eligible thanks to her posthumous "Lioness: Hidden Treasures" album.

Other nominees include the Rolling Stones, up for best live act against Coldplay, Mumford & Sons, Muse and The Vaccines.

Among the international nominees are Alicia Keys, Rihanna, the Black Keys, Bruce Springsteen and indie-pop band, fun.

Contenders for the biggest award of the night, best album, include Sande's "Our Version Of Events," Alt-j's "An Awesome Wave," Mumford & Sons' "Babel," Plan B's "Ill Manors" and Paloma Faith's "Fall To Grace."
