Exclusive: Matthew Arnold, the creator and executive producer of NBC’s Emerald City and Siberia, will soon unveil his first graphic novel Eden, a sci-fi story exploring a new and controversial approach to incarceration. The graphic novel illustrated by Riccardo Burchielli will become available in digital form via Amazon’s cloud-based service ComiXology Originals on March 29. It’s set for publication in print by Dark Horse, the legendary company behind titles including Black Hammer, Hellboy, Sin City and The Umbrella Academy, on July 12.

When a new law declares that convicted criminals should be cryogenically frozen instead of jailed, society thinks it has found a more humane way to deal with inmates. Exclusive: Television writer, executive producer and filmmaker Matthew Arnold has signed with Apa.

Arnold became known in the television industry in 2013 when NBC ordered his original scripted faux found-footage drama, Siberia, to series. He served as creator and executive producer of the series, in addition to directing most episodes. He later when on to create fantasy drama Emerald City, a re-imagining of The Wizard Of Oz that received a straight-to-series order at NBC for its first season.

Arnold also wrote and directed the horror film, Shadow People, which he developed with Warner Bros TV, Legendary Television and New Regency, that was picked up at Cannes. Last season, he sold a television adaptation of the popular The Black Tapes podcast to NBC, and has a number of other high-profile original and adapted projects in development for 2020. Arnold continues to be repped by Good Fear Content as well as Behr Abramson Levy.

Chicago – The first big breakthrough for any screenwriter is a momentous occasion, and David Wilson has done just that. The shot-on-a-shoestring indie family film “Spirit Riders” – written by Wilson – has had a great afterlife in limited release, Video-On-Demand, DVD, foreign distribution and online digital downloads. And this upcoming weekend, from November 20 to 22, 2015, Wilson will represent his story, about Equine Therapy, at the Equus Film Festival in New York City.

David Wilson hails from East Texas, and got his start in advertising and film media in Chicago. As most aspiring writers experience, there were a lot of stops and starts before his first screenplay, “The Underneath,” was filmed by a production company headed by director Brian T. Jaynes. This led to two more assignments from the same source, one for “Spirit Riders” and the upcoming “The Shadow People.”

Matthew Arnold, the writer-director of Shadow People and the showrunner behind NBC's new supernatural drama Siberia, has gotten a California appeals court to affirm the release of nearly $2 million of raised money that landed in the bank accounts of one of his former students. Matthew Arnold, creator-showrunner of NBC‘s upcoming summer drama series Siberia, has signed with ICM Partners. He didn’t have an agent. Siberia, which premieres July 1, is about a group of contestants who think they are competing in a reality show until the things go horribly wrong and they are left abandoned by the crew in a mysterious, supernatural wilderness. Arnold conceived of the series and wrote the bible before teaming with Michael Ohoven of Infinity Films to finance the first season independently. Ohoven and Sierra/Engine, which came in as a distributor, took the series to Mipcom in April and then sold it to NBC. Arnold wrote and directed the pilot and the season finale. He also co-wrote three additional episodes and directed a total of 7 episodes of the 13-epispde first season. Dallas Roberts is the kind of actor whose name you might not recognize, but whose face and talents you probably do. On the big screen he's been in the likes of Walk the Line (he gives Johnny Cash the "if you had time to sing one song..." speech) and The Grey (as Hendrick, the family man who sticks with Liam Neeson), but it's his work in television that's perhaps most widely recognized. He's a regular on The Good Wife , the prematurely cancelled Rubicon, and The Walking Dead, the latter of which is proving to be the actor's most popular project to date. Shadow People live among us lurking in our peripheral vision. But what do they want and what can radio personality Charlie Crowe do to ensure he and his listeners live to see another day Shadow People free Those with an open mind just hoping to catch an unsettling image or a disconcerting concept crawl into the spotlight should really enjoy this one. Arnolds direction and writing are smooth and wellcalculated and the cast is convincing enough to raise an eyebrow.

The titular Shadow People are the stuff of nightmares. They are the shadowy creatures that lurk above your bed, paralyzing you with fear and waiting to strangle you in your sleep. They are considered responsible for the very real phenomenon of Sudden Unexplained Nocturnal Death Syndrome. Victims of Sunds are usually young and healthy people who die inexplicably in their sleep.

Director Matthew Arnold uses a true story to explore this phenomenon in Shadow People. Late night radio show host Charlie Crowe (Dallas Roberts) gets sucked into the creepy world of Shadow People when a string of sleep deaths become linked to him. His interest in the phenomenon begins to bring wide attention to the issue. However, Cdc investigator Sophie Lacombe (Alison Eastwood) does not want the truth about Sunds to get out, fearing a massive breakout—because this psychological syndrome only occurs when you think about (and believe in) the Shadow People.

This week Anchor Bay released writer/director Matthew Arnold's indie thriller Shadow People, and to mark the occasion, Dread Central caught up with the filmmaker to talk about the project, the real-life inspiration behind the story, and lots more.

The film stars Dallas Roberts ("The Walking Dead") as a small town radio personality named Charlie Crowe, who unravels a conspiracy about encounters with the mysterious shadowy figures that happen to be the cause of hundreds of unexplained deaths over hundreds of years in many different cultures throughout the world. Through his own investigations, Charlie (Roberts) encounters Cdc Epidemic Intelligence Agent Sophie Lancombe (Alison Eastwood), whose discoveries end up leading them both into a dark world and a decades old cover-up.

Shadow People was released to Blu-ray/DVD yesterday by Image Entertainment, and stars The Walking Dead‘s Dallas Roberts. I recently had a chance to catch up with both Dallas Roberts and director Matthew Arnold to talk about the real events that inspired the movie, and their experiences seeing shadow people:

What inspired you to research the shadow people myth and create a movie based on it?

Matthew Arnold: The story came to me from my own personal experience. I woke up one night, and my body was totally paralyzed. I felt like my body was asleep, but I was awake, and could see a shadowy person standing over me. I finally yelled and willed my body to get up, and the figure shot through the wall. What the hell just happened?

It was an utterly terrifying experience to be paralyzed and have something in the room with you.

Dallas Roberts is a cool cat. ShockTillYouDrop.com first encountered the easy-going, amiable actor on the red carpet for The Grey and that was when we had initially talked about Shadow People, a film he had starred in that was awaiting distribution at the time. He was hopeful it would find a release and, ultimately, it did. Shadow People hits DVD this week from Anchor Bay.

He plays Charlie Crowe, a radio DJ who unravels a conspiracy about encounters with the eponymous, mysterious beings. These “Shadow People” were the cause of hundreds of unexplained deaths. AMC released their latest Q&A for The Walking Dead Season 3. This time, we hear from Dallas Roberts, who talks about preparing to play Milton, failed experiments, and a rivalry between the prison and Woodbury actors:

Q: Milton is quite the egghead. Did you do anything especially geeky to prepare to play him? Hit up some trivia nights? Sit in on some graduate school seminars?

A: I was the guy literally in the chess club who decided to wear a bow tie for the last two years of high school, so I obviously wasn’t trying to get the ladies. I understand that part of Milton. I find that with any good run on a show with good writers, they put something on paper and you put something back on film and that affects what they put on the paper the next time.
