Colm Meaney receives Irish Lifetime Achievement Award
Image
Colm Meaney, who played Miles O’Brien on both Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, was honored on February 14 with the Irish Academy Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to him by the Irish Film & Television Academy. Among those paying tribute to the actor was his longtime friend and Star Trek co-star and director, Jonathan Frakes.

During his time on Star Trek, especially during his DS9 era with the franchise, Meaney took time off to appear in a wide range of features in America and abroad. His seemingly endless list of credits, which saw him portray good guys and bad guys, and tackle both supporting roles and leads, includes The Dead, Die Hard 2, The Commitments, Under Siege, The Last of the Mohicans, Con Air, The Van, Hell on Wheels (in which he co-starred with future Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' lead Anson Mount), Tolkien, Gangs of London,...

Star Trek Actor Colm Meaney to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award From the Irish Film and Television Academy
Image
Actor Colm Meaney has entertained audiences for more than half a century. Now, his work across film and television is set to be celebrated in his native Ireland. Meaney, arguably best known for portraying transporter chief Miles O’Brien in Star Trek: The Next Generation and later the senior engineer on all seven seasons of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, will be honored with the Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA) award for lifetime achievement.

“To say I was surprised when I got the news that IFTA wanted to give me this award, would be an understatement. I was truly shocked,” said Meaney, per Variety. “To be asked to join this long list of very illustrious previous recipients is a huge honour, and I’m thrilled and looking forward to a good night in Dublin,” added the actor. Meaney is set to receive the Lifetime Achievement award at the IFTA awards on Feb.

This 49-Year Old Al Pacino Classic is Criminally Underrated and Relevant
Image
Dog Day Afternoon is a bona fide classic of true crime cinema. In August 1972, two armed men walked into a bank in Brooklyn and made Hollywood history. Transferred to the silver screen three years later, the cinematic reenactment of the actual heist was nominated for six Oscars and won best original screenplay for Frank Pierson. What made the movie notable was that it was the second collaboration between Sidney Lumet and Al Pacino. Additionally, it marked yet another high point for an actor who already had The Godfather Parts I and II on his resume. With the late great John Cazale in support, Dog Day Afternoon also put Pacino in line for his fourth Oscar in as many years.

Driven by motives that flew in the face of social taboos in 1975, this entire robbery took place to fund gender re-assignment surgery. This may have made Dog Day Afternoon contentious upon release,...

The Godfather Cast & Character Guide: What Every Actor Did After The Movie
Image
From Al Pacino to Marlon Brando, the cast of The Godfather is full of bona fide screen legends who went on to appear in some of the greatest movies ever made. The Godfather was a massive box office success, becoming the highest-grossing film of all time, and it had universal acclaim from critics to match. It didnt just make its director Francis Ford Coppola a household name; it made household names of everyone in its sprawling ensemble.

Some of the actors in The Godfather were already big names. Robert Duvall had already appeared in To Kill a Mockingbird and James Caan had already starred in Brians Song. But most of the films cast members, like Talia Shire and Diane Keaton, got their big break from The Godfather itself. Today, The Godfather is remembered for having one of the most star-studded casts in film history but at the time, a lot of them were unknowns.

All 4 Robert De Niro and Al Pacino Movies, Ranked
Image
Robert De Niro and Al Pacino were born only a few years apart, and started to make names for themselves around the same time. Theres an argument to be made that Mean Streets was De Niros breakout role, and with Pacino, it was probably The Godfather (or maybe the slightly less well-known The Panic in Needle Park). Since the early 1970s, both have been prolific and often closely associated with the same types of movies. Both actors can do pretty much all genres, but are particularly strong when they're cast in crime movies, regardless of which side of the law their characters ultimately fall on.
