The delightful "Freakier Friday" is in theaters this weekend, and it's a wonderful reprise for Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, as the two stars of the beloved "Freaky Friday" remake from 2003 return to the body-swapping formula. But this time they've got company, and it's not just "Weapons" at the box office.
Julia Butters (above left) joins the cast as Harper, the rebellious, surf-loving, teenage daughter of Anna (Lohan), and Sophia Hammons plays Lily, the daughter of Anna's soon-to-be-husband Eric (Manny Jacinto), who just wants to go back to her home in London, so she can study to be a fashion designer. Harper and Lily are completely at odds with one another, and the last thing they want is to become a blended family, because it likely means one of them is going to end up somewhere they don't want to be.
It's that wrinkle that makes the four-way body...

“Freakier Friday” is in theaters now, and as the title promises, things get even freakier this time around.
Directed by Nisha Ganatra, the sequel to 2003’s “Freakier Friday” sees Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reunited as Tess and Anna Coleman, respectively. Anna has a daughter of her own now, and is gaining a second one with her impending nuptials.
Of course, this leads to not just one body swap, but two — making for a 4-way switch in total. It can be hard to keep track of just that, let alone everyone around them, so we’ve gone ahead and done it for you.
Here’s who you need to know.

Dr. Tess Coleman is still a therapist, but these days she does her work via podcast.

There’s a school of thought going around that Hollywood is out of original ideas. And although there are fresh and exciting movies being made (particularly on the indie front), it’s hard to argue against the theory, since many big studio films are either sequels or remakes. Or, as in the case of Freakier Friday, a sequel to a remake.
Freakier Friday is, as one would suspect, a sequel to the 2003 romp Freaky Friday, which itself was a remake of a 1976 movie of the same name. Taking place some 20 or so years after the events of the last movie, this one sees Anna Coleman (Lindsay Lohan reprising her role from Freaky Friday) with a teenage daughter of her own named Harper (Julia Butters from Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood). Anna also has a...

Dexter is alive and killing it, this time in New York City. The sequel series Dexter: Resurrection debuted a couple of weeks ago, and Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is just sharpening his knives to bring his kind of justice to the Big Apple. In it, our favorite killer finally decides to give in to his "Dark Passenger" persona for an immensely personal reason. The episode debuts this Friday, and you can check out the sneak peek in this article.
We all know what happens to Dexter when he sets his sights on a new target. This time, however, we've already seen a shift in how he chooses to operate. Even though he's got a good lead on the serial killer who is targeting immigrant drivers, in the last episode,...

For eight seasons and 96 episodes, from 2006 to 2013, the series Dexter ran on Showtime, telling the story of Dexter Morgan, a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department who is also a vigilante serial killer. Clyde Phillips was showrunner on Dexter for the first four seasons, and in 2021 he and Showtime brought us the revival series Dexter: New Blood… which, for a time, also seemed to be the end of it all. But that’s not the case. Showtime has tasked Phillips with continue to build up the Dexter franchise, with the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin premiering back in December and a New Blood follow-up called Dexter: Resurrection, which heard was heading for a June premiere date. It’s actually going to miss June by a handful of days, as Showtime has revealed (and trades like The Hollywood Reporter have confirmed) that Dexter: Resurrection is going to premiere with two episodes on Friday,...

The Arrowverse Earth-Prime pretty much concluded with The Flash Season 9 finale. While it remains unclear what the future might hold for the CW franchise, one of its stars is ruminating on the chances of a return. Carlos Valdes, who brought fan-favorite tech whiz Cisco Ramon to life, is reflecting on his time hacking through the Arrowverse. One of the original cast members of The Flash, Valdes originated the role on Arrow before becoming a core part of The Flash’s main cast from its 2014 debut. He appeared in the superhero series for seven seasons before departing in 2021, alongside Tom Cavanaugh.
In his recent sit-down with People, Valdes looked back fondly on his time on the show, but when asked whether he missed sporting the black eye mask, he was indifferent. “I do and don't,” he said. “I've spent enough years away from The Flash and the character to be able...

Variety reports that Steve Schirripa has joined the cast of Dexter: Resurrection; hopefully he doesn’t end up on Dexter’s table. The actor, who is best known for playing Bobby Baccalieri on The Sopranos, will play the recurring role of Vinny, a greedy slumlord. Hrm, maybe there will be some plastic wrap in his future after all.
The Dexter sequel series has been in production in New York since January and has been assembling quite the cast. Picking up where Dexter: New Blood left off, Dexter: Resurrection once again finds Michael C. Hall playing the titular serial killer. The cast includes a few members of the original cast, including David Zayas as Angel Batista and James Remar as Harry Morgan, Dexter’s adoptive father. Jack Alcott will also reprise his Dexter: New Blood role as Dexter’s son, Harrison.

Hulu has canceled its musical rom-com Up Here after a single season.
The cancellation of the series, starring Mae Whitman and Carlos Valdes as a would-be couple derailed by both external issues and the (singing) voices in their heads, comes four months after its binge release in late March. As is the case with most streaming series, detailed viewing data for Up Here isn’t available.

We’ve all made the “Cop Rock” jokes. The Steven Bochco musical drama, which premiered in fall 1990, was a big swing: marrying original music with procedural storytelling. It was a colossal flop that we still talk about three decades later, and a reminder that musicals are hard.
Music has been a part of the TV landscape going back to the 1950s and shows like “Your Hit Parade.” But few series have successfully integrated regular music performances into their storytelling: “The Monkees” and “The Partridge Family” worked in the 1960s and ’70s. “Fame” did it in the early ’80s. And then “Cop Rock” scared people off the concept.

Three months from now, the Weeknd might just have an Emmy to place alongside his four Grammys and his Oscar nomination.
That’s because he joins a dozen other music superstars — including Dolly Parton, Common, Ryan Tedder, “Weird Al” Yankovic and Meshell Ndegeocello — who have entered work in this year’s Emmy competition.
Voting began yesterday in the seven music categories. Approximately 550 members of the Academy’s music branch will cast ballots, although viewing the hundreds of entries before voting ends on June 26 is an impossible task, Academy officials privately concede.
The Weeknd, aka Abel Tesfaye, is among the 19 entries in the Music Direction category. He submitted “The Weeknd Live at Sofi Stadium,” an HBO special that aired in February. If nominated, he’s likely to be up against such past winners as Adam Blackstone and Rickey Minor (“The Oscars”).

When TV academy voters sit down to fill out their 2023 Emmy nominations ballots, they have to consider 95 shows for Best Comedy Series; this is down by 23 contenders from last year. After six years of there being no restrictions on the amount of entrants they could vote for, each member’s selections can now not exceed the number of eventual nominations in a given category, which, in this case, will be eight.
Reigning Best Comedy Series winner “Ted Lasso” is seeking a third consecutive victory, but five of its seven 2022 rivals can put a stop to its streak. Those previously nominated shows that also aired during the eligibility period of June 1, 2022 to May 31, 2023 are “Abbott Elementary,” “Barry,” “Only Murders in the Building,” “What We Do in the Shadows,” and 2018 champ “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” The two contenders from last year missing from this ballot because they did not return in time...

Hollywood Records’ The Big Score is back with another episode, this time diving into the music of the biographical drama film Flamin’ Hot. The movie was adapted from a 2013 memoir by Richard Montañez called A Boy, A Burrito, and A Cookie: from Janitor to Executive, which chronicles the rise of Montañez through the ranks of the Frito-Lay corporation. Eva Longoria directed the film, which stars Jesse Garcia as Montañez.
The music for Flamin’ Hot was written by Marcelo Zarvos, whose other recent work includes White Men Can’t Jump and Big George Foreman. To support the debatably true story of Flamin’ Hot, Zarvos leaned into a culturally specific score meant to honor Mexican American tradition and even re-scored the iconic “20th Century Fox Fanfare” in a Mexican style to set the tone of the film. Screen Rant is excited to premiere clips from Zarvos’ episode of The Big Score. Check them out below.

Whether it’s a collision in an office elevator or a case of mistaken identities, fans of romantic comedies have a love-hate relationship with meet-cutes: The central couple must meet somehow and, since this is a love story, preferably they should do so in a cute way. But how many more white shirts must be killed in the name of clumsy-cute trip-and-falls while holding cups of coffee or orange juice?
For serialized romances, the challenge is even greater. Directors and writers must create interesting run-ins for characters to help sustain interest for longer than it takes for audiences to eat a bucket of popcorn.
“I feel like the bar now is, if you are expected to figure out a meet-cute, it has to be your new slightly subversive never-before-seen version of it,” says director Jay Karas. “I don’t think it’s a trope that we can totally get away from,...

Back in April, we learned (via an announcement from Dwayne Johnson) that Disney was planning to add to its roster of live-action films adapted from its animated canon with Moana. Now we know that Hamilton director Thomas Kail will be calling the shots.
Confirmed today by The Hollywood Reporter but originally broken by scooper Daniel Richtman at his Patreon page, the news will mark Kail's narrative feature directorial debut.
Moana told the story of a young woman who disobeys her father, the chief of an island that is dealing with an impending ecological disaster and goes off on a quest to reunite a mystical relic with its owner, a goddess named Te Fiti. Along the way, she releases trickster demigod Maui (Johnson) from his island prison, is captured by a monstrous crab, and finds the strength to become the chief her father believed she could be.

Fan-favorite The Flash star Danielle Panabaker opens up about her surprise return for the series finale.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Panabaker was asked about her initial reaction to learning that her character, Caitlin Snow aka Killer Frost, would be returning for the final episode of The Flash, albeit not as her character's cold and calculating alter-ego. "Great. It was how I wanted to go out. It's how I joined the show, and it was appropriate that that's how I left the show as well," the actor said. Panabaker went on to explain how much more time she believed the writers thought they had, including showrunner Eric Wallace, leading to a sort of crunch when it came to wrapping up individual storylines. "I did feel pretty strongly, and I was pretty vocal about this, that it would only be right to bring Caitlin back again to honor the show and how we started,...

It was too difficult for Carlos Valdes to watch The Flash episodes again following his departure.
The former Cisco Ramon/Vibe actor opened up about leaving The Flash with Entertainment Weekly, including what he felt after moving past that stage in his acting career. "Grief comes and goes in waves, and it really was a kind of grief leaving The Flash, especially because it was seven or eight years of my life," Valdes recognized, adding, "Even though I was resolute in my decision and that maintained itself through to today, I really did feel like I was making the right decision, and I never wavered from that, but I still obviously felt little windows of nostalgia and sentimentality just missing the process and missing those people."

Up Here composer Christophe Beck said the Hulu musical series’ score was intended to stand out from the musical numbers. Beck is an old college friend of co-writer Robert Lopez and already collaborated with Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez on the Frozen films.
“We really wanted to set the score a little bit apart from the songs,” Beck said during a panel at Deadline’s Sound & Screen event. “The score takes a more contemporary acoustic rock approach but it’s also not afraid to go to different places as needed. Overall I think the electric guitar is a big part of the sound of the score.”
Based on Lopez and Anderson-Lopez’s stage musical, Up Here follows Lindsay (Mae Whitman) and Miguel (Carlos Valdez), a couple falling in love in 1999. The voices in their heads, representing parents and friends, sing their thoughts.

TV and movie writers began picketing studios on Tuesday after the WGA and Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers failed to come to an agreement over a new contract. For the first time in 15 years, guild members are fanning out across Hollywood, New York and other areas with signs lettered with slogans proclaiming why writers are so crucial to creating all types of entertainment.
The guild says writers are facing a crisis due to the shift to streaming, with fewer TV episodes and lower residuals.
At Netflix’s Hollywood headquarters Tuesday, writers were chanting “Exploitation, ain’t no way! Writers better get their pay!”
Meanwhile in New York, a picket sign read, “Pay your writers or we’ll spoil ‘Succession’!”
Courtney Perdue, a writer on “Up Here” and “Gossip Girl,” told Variety, “No one wants this, but it’s necessary. This business starts on the page. No pages, no profits.

“Up Here” is a musical love story that’s based on a similar premise to “Inside Out” but makes it for adults. What that means is that instead of understanding the insides of a child through her emotions, we understand why these two adults misunderstand each other because of their past trauma and the voices of their parents, sprinkling a little bit of cheesy romance over the top. Yes, we all have those inner nagging moments, but do they sing to us when we’re in trouble? Probably not.

From the great minds who brought us “Hamilton,” “Frozen,” “New Girl,” and “Tick, Tick…Boom!” comes a rather mediocre romance that tries to add rhythm to the idea that the biggest hassle in a relationship is the people themselves and their thoughts. On paper, “Up Here” may have sounded pretty fun, but even with an excellent leading couple, it disappoints quite a bit.
