First airing in 2019, Netflix's The Witcher has gone on to become one of the streamer's most popular fantasy franchises. Based on the best-selling novels by Andrzej Sapkowski (and taking heavy inspiration from the beloved video game series), The Witcher follows monster-hunter Geralt of Rivia and his adventures, trials, and tribulations across The Continent.
Looking ahead to season 4, The Witcher has undergone a few major changes since we last saw it on our screens. Perhaps most notably, Henry Cavill stepped down after season 3, having announced his departure from the series in 2022. The titular role was subsequently given to Liam Hemsworth, who will play Geralt beginning in season 4 through to its fifth and final season.

Their relationship remains limited to amicable and friendly co-parents who remain in each other’s orbit via their little girl, Tali. Thus, as the show starts, Ziva is no longer Tony’s go-to partner in crime-solving. Instead, he seems to have teamed up with Claudette,...

"American Gods" may not have been the best TV show of the last 10 years, but it definitely had one of the best first seasons of the past decade. Initially overseen by Bryan Fuller of "Hannibal" and "Pushing Daisies" acclaim, the show did a riveting job of adapting Neil Gaiman's original fantasy novel right out of the gate. Sure, season 1 only covered the book's first five chapters over eight episodes, but it did so with so much style and confidence that it's hard to complain about the slow pace. The series knew exactly when and how to expand on its source material; simply put, season 1 had the sauce in a...

Gwendoline Christie is, of course, best known to audiences for her portrayal of Brienne of Tarth on HBO's "Game of Thrones." The actor rose to prominence on the HBO fantasy series, where her impressive 6 '3'' stature allowed her to embody the powerful and imposing Brienne introduced in George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" books, on which the show was based. Brienne was the heir to House Tarth and a warrior who aspired to knighthood, despite that honor being denied to the women of Westeros. Over the course of the series, she formed a close bond with her one-time prisoner Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), who would go on to fulfill Brienne's wish and eventually knight her, making her the first female knight in the Seven Kingdoms.
Naturally, "Game of Thrones" put Christie on the radar of many fantasy fans -- and, apparently, many casting directors as well.

Successor to the King With the success of Netflix’s The Sandman and its upcoming second season, Neil Gaiman has firmly cemented himself as one of the most adapted authors in recent memory. Like fellow spooky-minded author Stephen King, Gaiman’s work has been a deep well from which Hollywood continues to draw. With his eerie brand of imagination, he’s proven to be one of the most reliable voices in the fantasy genre, both for his own stories and for other creators. Behind the scenes, Gaiman has built a diverse career, from writing the localized English script for Princess Mononoke to co-writing the dark, brooding 2007 3D-animated Beowulf. He’s penned episodes of Doctor Who and Babylon 5, and even wrote the opening for Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Essentially, if your story barely resembles reality, Gaiman has probably been on someone’s shortlist. For comic book fans and fantasy lovers,...

After years of waiting and build-up, “Fargo” creator Noah Hawley’s ambitious new entry in the “Alien” franchise, FX’s “Alien: Earth,” has finally arrived. The series, which is set in the same universe as the other “Alien” films, drops viewers right into a dystopian future where Earth is controlled by a handful of all-powerful corporations and the humans who find themselves at their mercy are repeatedly subjected to reckless biological experimentation and unnecessary danger.
At the center of the series are characters with opposing interests, perspectives and goals. There are a lot of them, and they are played by actors you may or may not have ever seen before. With that in mind, here is your guide to who’s who in the new, long-awaited FX series.

It's a fantastic time to be Joseph Quinn. Over a decade after he unsuccessfully threw his hat in the ring to play Peter Parker in "Spider-Man: Homecoming," the English actor is enjoying the fruits of a multi-year hot streak that began with a breakout performance as Eddie Munson in "Stranger Things 4" back in 2022. Both he and the character became something of a viral hit, making him one of the most in-demand young actors almost overnight.
Having previously played smaller, supporting roles in British television dramas that seldom made much noise in the states, Quinn was now being courted to star in major film franchises, including a highly-anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott's "Gladiator," a prequel to John Krasinski's blockbuster horror series "A Quiet Place," and, of course, "The Fantastic Four: First Steps," arguably the most coveted Marvel Studios project produced in years. The Blob, one of the most beloved horror films of all time, is undergoing the reboot treatment once again. First, Steve Andrews (Steve McQueen) fought against the alien shapeless parasite in 1958, and then, in 1988, Meg Penny (Shawnee Smith) and Brian Flagg (Kevin Dillon) saw their town fall prey to the giant slime. Now, modern audiences will once again confront the mold-like substance under the direction of David Bruckner and producer David S. Goyer. However, fans of the original should be aware that there are a few planned changes, and this will surely spark some debate.
The new version of The Blob has been under development for some time. Rob Zombie and Simon West were at some point attached to the remake, but they each parted ways. Bruckner, famous for films like The Ritual and The Night House, is still reportedly in the project, which is being produced by Goyer and Keith Levine.

One of the most devastating cancellations last year was Dead Boy Detectives.
This show, set in The Sandman universe, follows the adventures of the Dead Boy Detectives agency led by Charles and Edwin, a pair of ghost boys, along with their friends Crystal, a psychic, and Niko.
When Netflix announced that the show would not be returning for a Season 2, fans were obviously devastated.
(Ed Araquel/Netflix)
However, the streamer ordered another season for The Sandman, though Season 2 for this show would be its last.
So, fans held out hope that our favorite ghost boys would make a brief appearance.
Unfortunately, Netflix let us down yet again. Talk about rubbing salt in the wound.

If an entirely new Harry Potter TV series wasn't enough, Audible will debut an ensemble cast audio dramatization of the beloved novels later this year.
The audio series follows in the footsteps of previous successful Audible dramas, such as 1984 and The Sandman, boasting a stellar cast with names such as Hugh Laurie as Albus Dumbledore, Matthew Macfadyen as Lord Voldemort, and Riz Ahmed as Professor Snape.
Another major casting sees Michelle Gomez take on the role of Hogwarts Professor Minerva McGonagall. Naturally, people have taken issue with yet another Harry Potter adaptation, and many have also thrown shade at the cast for taking part in an adaptation of J.K. Rowling's work.
In the case of Gomez, she quickly took to her Instagram Story (per Entertainment Weekly) to speak out against Rowling's anti-trans views.

Apple TV+'s sci-fi hit sporting a 96% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, Murderbot, has received a cautious update for season 2 and beyond, and what they may entail. Based on The Murderbot Diaries series written by Martha Wells, the show follows the assignments of its title private security construct. Murderbot season 2 was confirmed as season 1 closed out.
Speaking with ComicBookabout The Sandman season 2, Murderbot executive producer David S. Goyer explained how the show would handle its story in season 2 and well into the future. He explained how there will be some differences between the show and Wells' novels, such as series regulars coming back who weren't involved in the source material's version of events:
I would say there are five other books that Martha Wells has written, so there’s a lot more material. I don’t know if the show will last five, six seasons. The only difference between the...

The first full week of July was a big one for streaming with seven titles surpassing 1B minutes watched in the U.S., per Nielsen’s latest report.
For the first time ever, Love Island USA led the pack from July 7 to 13 with 1.9B minutes watched. Not only is that the highest weekly total ever for the series, it’s also the first time that a Peacock series has ever reached the No. 1 overall spot.
This is quite a feat for the series, which had struggled to find its footing in its first five seasons. That all changed with last summer’s Season 6, catapulting the series into the cultural zeitgeist the way that its UK predecessor had already been able to do.
Since Nielsen doesn’t report viewing per season, this includes any and all viewing of previous seasons during this week as well, so it’s hard to say...

The Sandman producer, David S. Goyer, has broken down why the show ended early, despite more seasons being planned. The show was adapted from the comic book series co-created by Neil Gaiman, and premiered on Netflix on August 5, 2022. Despite its success and critical recognition, the series concluded on July 31, 2025, after two seasons and 23 episodes.
The Sandman follows Morpheus, the personification of dreams, who escapes from 106 years in captivity and sets about restoring order to his realm, known as the Dreaming. Despite two more seasons being planned, it was revealed that The Sandman season 3 is not happening, and the show would end with season 2.
Per ComicBook.com, Goyer discussed the original plan for the show to span four 10-episode seasons, but the short length of some of The Sandman comic issues meant that the show was burning through material faster than expected, so it didn't make sense for the series to overstay its welcome.

When the Og Blade, Wesley Snipes, quipped in Deadpool and Wolverine, "There's only ever gonna be one Blade," no one thought it’d prove so ominous. It’s been six years since Marvel Studios first announced the Mahershala Ali-led new Blade movie, and it’s still in development. The numerous delays and changes in top-line talents made everyone curious as to what was hindering the project. And so was original trilogy writer David S Goyer, who is currently busy promoting the final chapter of Netflix’s The Sandman.
Marvel Studios has been through a major creative overhaul in the past few years, thanks to a failing box office and waning fan interest. The change was visible in Daredevil: Born Again as the studio promises to give us well-crafted stories. Blade seems to have suffered due to this reason. David S. Goyer is more than willing to return to Blade if Marvel ever requires his assistance. The filmmaker recently offered an update on the long-gestating project.
Speaking to ComicBook, Goyer said he would be happy to revisit Blade if he was asked. "I've had a lot of people and journalists ask, 'Why don't you go in there and help them with it?' Prior to that happening, I hadn't really considered it. But I had my agent call Marvel about six months ago to say, 'Do you guys need any help with it?' And they said, 'No, we're good. We're on the right path now.' I wouldn't say no to it. It would be interesting to revisit it decades afterwards."
Goyer also addressed some of the difficulties the company has faced adapting the character. "I have been puzzled why they are having so much trouble because they already had Mahershala Ali.

During the week of July 28-Aug. 3, “KPop Demon Hunters” achieved not only its seventh week on the Netflix Top 10, but became one of the streamer’s most popular titles ever.
With a total of 158.8 million views since its June 20 debut, the musical fantasy is now in fourth place on the all-time English-language films chart, outranked only by “Red Notice” (230.9 million views), “Carry-On” (172.1 million) and “Don’t Look Up” (171.4 million). Netflix measures its all-time lists by accounting for all views in each title’s first 91 days of viewing, meaning that “KPop Demon Hunters” has seven weeks left to continue climbing higher.

“KPop Demon Hunters” made Netflix history during the week of July 28, becoming the streamer’s fourth most-watched English-language movie to date. In the seven weeks since its debut, the action musical secured 158.8 million views.
The animated movie from Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans has now been more widely watched in its first 90 days than Ryan Reynolds and Jennifer Garner’s “The Adam Project,” Sandra Bullock’s “Bird Box,” Cameron Diaz and Jaime Foxx’s “Back in Action,” Sam Esmail’s “Leave the World Behind,” Ryan Gosling’s “The Gray Man,” Millie Bobby Brown’s “Damsel” and Robert Rodriguez’s “We Can Be Heroes.” It also bumped “We Can Be Heroes” out of Netflix’s top 10 most popular English-language movies list.
And since the 90-day cutoff for “KPop Demon Hunters” won’t happen until mid-September, chances are high that ranking will only be going up, up, up.

The final episode of The Sandman, "A Tale of Graceful Ends," deals with the fallout of Morpheus' death and the emergence of a new incarnation of Dream of the Endless, with Daniel Hall (Jacob Anderson) struggling to come to terms with his very existence and the rest of The Endless coming together to mourn their departed brother.
Tom Sturridge does appear in one final flashback scene towards the end of the finale, as we see Morpheus pay a visit to William Shakespeare upon the completion of his second commissioned play, The Tempest.
Dream invites the legendary playwright to The Dreaming to share a glass of wine, and we find out why the Prince of Stories made a deal with the then "naff actor" known as Will Shaxberg in the first place.
