Boti Bliss and Ashley Leggat in Le piège des apparences (2011)

FAQ

Le piège des apparences

When Marty Renington (Peter Michael Dillon) is arrested for murder, his wife Carrie (Boti Bliss) divorces him but is forced to take a job as a waitress in order to make ends meet. There, she meets working student Ashley Dunnfield (Ashley Leggat), daughter of real estate magnate Richard Dunnfield (William R. Moses). When Carrie tells Ashley that her roommate Frank recently died and that she has nowhere to live, Ashley offers to let Carrie stay with her until she can find a place. When Ashley goes into anaphylactic shock after mistakenly eating fish, Carrie calls Ashley's father and has her rushed to the hospital. Unbeknown to Ashley, however, it was Carrie who laced her food with fish katsua sauce in an effort to meet her super rich father. Sometimes it's better to live alone.

The screenplay for The Perfect Roommate was written by American screenwriter Christine Conradt.

Ashley decides to drive from Pennsylvania up to Cape May, New Jersey where her father and Carrie are staying in a hotel. She tries calling her father, but Carrie has disconnected the room phone and turned off his cell. Along the way, Ashley's radiator loses coolant, and she is forced to leave her car overnight at a service station. Suddenly, Carrie shows up, having intercepted Ashley's message on Richard's call forwarding. Carrie offers to give Ashley a lift to the hotel, but Ashley refuses to get in the car with her, telling her all that she has learned from Marty's brother Roland (Tim Finnigan), Carrie becomes angry, knocking Ashley's cell phone to the ground She accuses Ashley of being a 'rich bitch' and attacks her with a broken beer bottle, but she is intercepted when Ashley hails a passing squad car. Carrie is charged with assault and battery, and Richard comes to pick up Ashley. One week later, Ashley and Richard learn that the District Attorney is charging Carrie with conspiracy to commit murder, that Anna Prieto (Cinthia Burke) has been arrested for the murder of Paula Wickless (Teresa Donovan), and that the D.A. is going to move to have Marty's conviction overturned. Later, as Richard, Ashley, and Ashley's boyfriend Matt Wilson (Jon McLaren) are having dinner together, Richard gives Ashley an early birthday gift...reservations at the Snowpeak Lodge that he is currently renovating in Jersey. He then commissions 17 paintings from Matt for the lodge, and Matt responds by calling him 'Dad.' In the final scene, Carrie is shown sitting in her prison cell, scanning the profile of millionaire Paul Sanchez.
