"Querida, Voy a Comprar Cigarrillos y Vuelvo" is definitely a very unusual film. The idea of the script is brilliant... just the idea, because this idea needs huge polishing and a great memorable film could have been made if this fact had been present. The film is interesting, definitely it will keep you watching until the end, and it is quite short (1 hour and 20 minutes), so I do recommend it. Beware, however, it is quite depressing: many facts about life that are true but nobody wants to acknowledge, come into light in the film and not precisely in a subtle way. I kept wondering if it's a 6 or a 7. Finally I gave it 6: for IMDb 6 is not too good, but in my scale it is a good mark.
Querida Voy a Comprar Cigarrillos y Vuelvo Is truly a masterpiece. It's definitely not your everyday movie.
The setting is really relatable. The characters are down to Earth and have simple psychological profiles. The acting is amazing. Even supporting actors and actresses were very believable. Combine that with a good script and the narrations of the original book's author, and bingo! A great movie is born.
Everybody behaves and reacts exactly the way people actually would. The movie forces you to think what you'd do if you were in a position to make what people normally consider life-changing decisions.
The soundtrack is nice. The pace is quick and since it's a relatively short movie (under 90') so it'll likely keep you interested the whole time.
When things don't work out the way you expect them to, you can't help but to ask yourself: what could I have done differently to get a more desirable outcome? Querida Voy a Buscar Cigarrillos y Vuelvo dives right into that - and does so brilliantly!

Initially I felt interested in the story, it starts quite epic, a bit cheesy and clunky, but I got over it still interested. As the film evolves, you realise that the whole first scene explaining the origin of the character in it is completely unnecessary and it feels cheap.
The voice in off (and then on screen) of Alberto Laiseca, who introduces himself as the writer of the tale, felt really annoying for me, he does some weird sounds and makes some pretentious or annoyingly derogatory and insulting comments on the characters and the story, which I found really cringe and made me really struggle to get through the movie.
There are some interesting aspects of the story which kept me watching to see how would they play, but ultimately, very little of it was well executed, and by the las 20 minutes (the movie is only 80 minutes) I was feeling really disappointed.
The performances are not great, specially the writer's parts (I don't know if he was playing a character or just being himself, as he's credited) but I thin it's more about the dialogs (the writing) and the direction that makes this feel so amateur.
The cinematography is less than average, with shaky shots where there shouldn't be, bad framing, and some really amateur feeling throughout.
I only give some points to the film towards some interesting ideas and some moments of the film, but overall it's not a great film.
