Will appeal to people people - provides a window into life.

This was a surprising film. The notion of someone striving to get their life on track against a notion of past achievement during their prime is not new. It is perhaps something that many may identify with as an acute sense of loss and nostalgia may ensue once one has achieved a hard earned targets. This film addresses such an issue is a sensitive and dramatic way as it tells the story of a pro-skater and his attempts to restructure his life after a fail in his career path. The element of surprise was in the artistic way in which this story was related: Without wanting to include any spoilers the film-makers have clearly put a lot of thought and effort into relating this is a manor that is somewhat uplifting with a humorous element. The artistry involves a resounding sound track, a combination of black & white and colour sequences as well as some inspiring acting and direction. It is entertaining. It is also a large scale production for an independent (and therefore usually fairly low budget) film with a large cast that does not distract from the intimacy of the leads. It does not have the cheesy quality that some low-budget movies (assuming it is low budget) sometimes have. This is recommended viewing and will especially appeal to those who are interested in people and gaining an insight into the life of the lead character and bodes well for the potential of the team that have produced it.

    Enchanting

A lovely movie that enraptures sentiment escapism that takes you to an innocent age. This tells the story of Jesse Sorenson. A tragic character who strives to get his life back together when faced with adversity. It ring true as a story that many will identify with: The aspirations of youth, the shattering of dreams to be followed by life struggle to find one's self actualisation by achieving those dreams. It is an artistic, touching and moving film. The film-makers show an aptitude for creativity in the way they relate the writer's creation and this adds drama and impact to what is an already powerful story. I particularly like the grainy filmic views in monochrome and how these were contrasted with realistic highly detailed colour scenes. No achievement in film-making comes without taking risks. My impression is that risks were taking in making this but that these have paid-off admirably. A well constructed and well paced film augmented by skilled direction with professional acting skills: In my view well worth watching.

    Awesome film

VEER! is a film that instantly triggers feelings of nostalgia, even if you are like me and know nothing about skateboarding. As you watch Jesse clumsily try to build a career out of his passion, you are reminded of what it is like to have a dream that you would do anything to make a reality. By the end, this film makes you want to take out your dream journal and start creating. The characters play into an emphasis that success and happiness can only be defined by the individual. In this way, Director Patrick Barry distinguishes between authenticity and superficiality, when it comes to living out our dreams with the use of black and white versus color film.

    really...REALLY awful

feels very much like watching a movie written & directed by a middle school kid for a class assignment who thought "yeah I'm gonna make a wicked neat movie about skaters & cool parties & what happens when your really old like ...30? & your mommy doesn't clean your room for ya anymore." Then the junior high writer/director realized he'd never skated before & had not been invited to a party , he was too scared to ask any skaters he'd seen at school to be in his movie &the washed up pros he'd heard his older brother talk about were all scary with nicotine nails & he'd never get the nerve to talk to them. So he decided he'd go to his dad who works at the local insurance company & ask his help. His dad called his mall security guard friend & they brain stormed all wknd on what skaters were like & how to finish the assignment. After calling in help from every bearded hipster who'd ever seen a guy in an alley once before or knew how to make a mocha chino with whip & what a success that one movie Clerks was they managed to pull the project off just n time for first period. THIS MOVIE IS AWFUL! I guarantee the positive reviews of this movie are thanks to friends of said bearded hipster mocha chino experts who were in or involved with this AWFUL film.

    Veer! Is truly amazing

I really thought this movie created an ambience like no other, it told its story in such a natural way that is highly relatable to me and many other skaters. The way it follows the main actor and not just through skateboarding but through what he's also doing Inbetween makes for a very investing watch. Couldn't recommend this film enough, truly is one of my favourites and even the music goes so well with it all too. Definitely a must watch.
