Den Of Geek raises a glass to some lesser-known soap star pop singles, from Coronation Street to Neighbours and more...
“Do you remember the guy who played that guy in that thing? His song was good wasn't it?”
The above is an example of a conversation regularly heard in our house. The only variants are that sometimes it was 'that girl from that thing', and a lot of the time the song was far from good.
Well sod it – I think we as a nation need to have more discussions about Craig McLachlan and Stefan Dennis. It's the only way our society will grow. So here are 12 songs from Soapland that weren't done by Kylie, Jason, or Kylie and Jason.
1. Kevin Kennedy (Curly Watts) – Bulldog Nation
Here we see Coronation Street's finest and supermarket manager extraordinaire with an indie effort from 2000. Did You Know - Kennedy...

The anticipated savior of a bummer summer turns out to be a grabbag of what's been off and awful about recent comic-book epics (Captain America: Civil War excepted). Suicide Squad wussies out when it should have been down with the Dirty Dozen of DC Comics. Audiences complained that Batman v Superman was too dark and depressing. So director-writer David Ayer (End of Watch, Fury) counters with light and candy-assed. I call bullshit.
You've never seen a more lovable team of death-row supervillains, hilariously dubbed "the worst of the worst." Viola Davis...

From Thomas F Wilson in Back To The Future to Nicolas Cage and John Travolta in Face/Off - when actors play multiple roles...
The dramatic use of actors playing multiple characters is a bold and rather theatrical device that has its ups and downs. It goes at least as far back as Captain Hook being played by the same actor who plays the Darling children's father in stage productions of Peter Pan, a technique largely adopted in film adaptations of the story, too (hello to Jason Isaacs).
It's used a lot in cinema too. Done well, it's impressive, but when it's bad, it's Jack & Jill. Whether used in comedy or drama or outright horror, there are countless examples of actors delivering terrific performances in more than one role at once, and that's before we even get past Cloud Atlas. Still, we've had a go at totting up 25 of the best.

Paul Solet's Dark Summer has landed Stella Maeve in the lead in the horror which tells of a 17-year-old in house arrest in haunted confines. Deadline reports that Ross Dinerstein of Preferred Film & TV Media is producing the film while Jamie Carmichael serves as executive producer. The indie film starts shooting this week. Maeve's been a busy actress since 2005, with film and TV credits under her belt, including The Runaways, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Bones, House M.D., Starlet and All Together Now. She's in post production phase on Flipped with Michael Madsen and is shooting Manson Girls...

Multi-thread narratives or group narratives prove to be an interesting corner of cinema to explore. The best ones I find rarely rely on compelling plots, but are often loose and meandering affairs, with existential wit to spare and a cornucopia of colorful characters that shoot from the hip. One could argue that Robert Altman is the gold standard for this larger construct. And when we are talking flicks about adolescents and young adults the bar has been set considerably high by American Graffiti and Dazed And Confused and their life changing one-nighters. It is then a real testament to director Alexander Mirecki and his entire cast and crew that his feature debut All Together Now feels so fresh. Ron (Lou Taylor Pucci) is putting on...

The Los Angeles Film Festival begins tonight with a special pre-fest screening of "Man of Steel," but the flashy blockbuster is in something of a minority in the festival's program, which is littered with small scale narratives and documentaries full of promise. With close to 200 films from around the world, including 20 world premieres, the first big U.S. festival of the summer offers a wide range of options. Here are a few that we're looking forward to checking out as we kick off our coverage of the festival. "All Together Now" Lou Taylor Pucci was one of the standouts of the recent "Evil Dead" remake, but that's not the only new movie that finds him going wild in the woods. This one's a little more upbeat, though. Pucci stars in writer-director Alexander Mirecki's real time story of an all-night barn concert promises plenty of hard rock delights and deadpan...

When civilization finally cracks, and the world turns on itself, it might be important to be surrounded by friends.
Maybe.
In Goodbye World, an apocalyptic drama that will have its world premiere on Saturday at the Los Angeles Film Festival, Adrian Grenier and Kerry Bishé (Argo) play a wealthy couple whose rural home becomes an oasis for all their old Stanford University pals after a mysterious cyber attack cripples society. For awhile, the emergency reunion seems like a nice opportunity to catch up on old times, but as reality closes in, friendships are tested as old resentments surface. “The beginning...

The euphoria of an all-night concert — the crazy hook-ups, the booze and, of course, the killer music — is the kind of larger-than-life, emotionally charged scene that movies are made for.
So it’s no surprise that chasing that feeling led director and co-writer Alexander Mirecki to film All Together Now, which premieres Saturday at the L.A. Film Festival.
“For the longest time I had been interested in a narrative that had progressed in almost real time, where you didn’t take a huge chunk of time and try and condense it,” Mirecki explained on the phone with EW. “The...

Ahead of its premiere at the La Film Festival next week, Indiewire has the exclysive trailer for "All Together Now." The film definitely seems to live up to its title, as Ron (Lou Taylor Pucci) decides to throw a party at a shed in the middle of the woods, inviting four bands and all of his friends, which inevitably leads to a motley crew of characters indulging in communal ruckus. Rather than hinting at any horror elements that could be associated by the film's setting, the trailer seems to just indicate all-night shenanigans and good times, all of it excitingly captured in the trailer's frenetic cutting and blasting rock soundtrack. Also at the party is James Duval, most notable for his appearance in the films of Gregg Araki, a director who might appreciate "All Together Now" for its gleeful portrayal of youthful debauchery.

The Los Angeles Film Festival has finally rolled out their full lineup for the upcoming summer fest, and it’s packed with a number of Sundance picks, the return of Ryan Gosling and Nicolas Winding Refn, and everyone’s favorite film that hasn’t been released just yet, You’re Next. Basically, you should probably start making your schedule now, because this is easily one of Laff’s best lineups yet. The festival will open with Pedro Almodovar‘s I’m So Excited (Almodovar is a Los Angeles favorite, as he’s also served as guest artistic director for La’s other big festival, AFI Fest), close with Nat Faxon and Jim Rash‘s The Way, Way Back, and include special gala presentations in the middle of both Refn’s Only God Forgives and Ryan Coogler‘s Sundance winner Fruitvale Station (formerly known as Fruitvale). Didn’t think you could get a large portion of your awards...

World premieres include Alexander Mirecki's "All Together Now," Ava DuVernay's "Venus Vs.," Robert Machoian and Rodrigo Ojeda-Beck's "Forty Years from Yesterday" and Joe Burke's "Four Dogs." Nicolas Winding Refn's "Only God Forgives" will see its North American debut at the fest via a Gala presentation, following in the footsteps of his last film, "Drive." More casting news kept the fan base excited for writer/director Fede Alvarez's reboot of the cult classic The Evil Dead. Lou Taylor Pucci, a regular in the independent film scene with dramas Thumbsucker, The Go-Getter and The Music Never Stopped, changed genres and joined The Evil Dead as one of the group of teens battling the beyond-the-grave beasties in an isolated cabin. Variety earlier confirmed that Red Riding Hood star Shiloh Fernandez joined the film and actress Jane Levy replaced Lily Collins as the female lead. Pucci, 26, recently completed work on the indie dramas All Together Now, about a group of twenty-somethings at a rock concert, and The Story of Luke, about a young man with autism.
