If Noah Hawley had listened to Ridley Scott’s advice, Alien: Earth’s pilot episode, Neverland, might have been very different from its current release. To all Alien connoisseurs, Scott’s original vision for his 1979 film, Alien, was to kill Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and let the Xenomorph mimic her voice while en route to Earth.

This concept did not sit well with Hawley, so he decided to drop it and go with the original plan that he had in his creative mind. Moreover, there are many instances where the first TV show of the franchise did not incorporate its futuristic and forward storyline.

Of all the big, ambitious swings that “Alien: Earth” takes, none are riskier than the parallels that showrunner Noah Hawley chooses to draw between his new sci-fi series and “Peter Pan.” The FX drama makes multiple references to both the original “Peter Pan” story and its 1953, animated Disney adaptation. That will likely come as a surprise to viewers, especially those who are well-versed in the “Alien” franchise‘s past entries and its usual, grungy vibes.

These are the questions that Trace and I are dissecting episode by episode on the Horror Queers Patreon each week starting today with a look at episodes 1-2, “Neverland” and “Mr. October.”

With its two-part premiere, Alien: Earth has offered us an answer…or at least the start of one. Both episodes were written by Hawley (who also directs “Neverland”) and serve to introduce a world only 95 years in the future. Despite the storytelling potential of exploring a new timeline, the showrunner keeps the world building tightly focused on the events of the Uscss Maginot crash and the “Neverland” Research Island.

Alien: Earth dropped its first two episodes, and the moment I heard those quirky needle drops towards the end, believe me when I say, I was literally taken aback! Alien: Earth Episode 1 ends with Black Sabbath’s The Mob Rules over the closing credits, while Alien: Earth Episode 2 subs in Stinkfist by Tool. And it’s said that more such soundtracks will be unveiled in the later episodes that are going to make you dance (maybe!).

The Hulu show’s creator, Noah Hawley, too, explained that it wasn’t part of his plan to incorporate any sort of rock ‘n’ roll music, but it naturally occurred to him as things unfurled during the editing process. Therefore, let’s dive into Hawley’s world of thought processes and why these songs made it to the television screens.

However, the major question that lingers around the two episodes is, why did Morrow feel the need to crash the Mothership, and did Joe survive the attack? After a week of great press and rising excitement, Alien: Earth makes its premiere on FX and FX on Hulu. The sci-fi series comes from Noah Hawley, whose Fargo series helped develop FX into a titan in the Peak TV era. For as much as it is undeniably a monumental work of science fiction that has been franchised across the decades and turned into an established intellectual property in its own right, each installment has been singularly driven by the inspirations, aspirations, and ambitions of its own respective filmmaker.

Produced by Jordan Peele and his Monkeypaw Productions and directed by Ti West, Neverland will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 7, with tickets available now.

Anyma’s trio of Genesys albums is nearly complete! On Thursday, the Italian-American DJ announced the track list for album The End of Genesys, which will feature collaborations with Sevdaliza, Ellie Goulding, 070 Shake, and Grimes, out May 30.

Anyma led the album with the Goulding collaboration, “Hypnotized,” earlier this year, which got fans excited about the coming record. After starring in Ti West’s slasher movie X back in 2022, musician Scott ‘Kid Cudi’ Mescudi took to Twitter over the weekend to announce that he’s soon returning to the horror genre.

But this time, Kid Cudi will be finding himself in the director’s chair. Cudi announced on Twitter that he’s directing a horror/romance feature titled When the Light Dies.

Kid Cudi will reflect on the journey of his life and career in his debut memoir Cudi: The Memoir, out Aug. 5. The musician announced the book on Instagram, sharing accompanying artwork that he painted himself. The memoir will recount stories that capture “life lessons, the rager period of my life, and fighting my demons,” he said in the caption, “all the way to the present, where happiness has found me.”

The Tribeca Film Fest 2025, presented by Okx, announced its short film lineup today, which includes narrative, animation, documentary shorts as well as music videos. Among them is the world premiere of Kid Cudi’s “Neverland,“ featuring an impressive cast & crew.

The eleven-minute horror-centric music video follows “a 200 year old vampire takes his newly initiated love on her first feed.”

“Neverland” stars performer Kid Cudi (Scott Mescudi), Kiernan Shipka, Brittany Snow (X), Haley Joel Osment, Cary Elwes (Saw), and Brandon Scott (Descendent). That’s one hell of a lineup and marks the on-screen reunion between Mescudi and Snow, his X co-star.

The X connections don’t stop there, either; “Neverland” is helmed by director Ti West, who co-wrote the script for the music video with Mescudi. As if the horror pedigree isn’t already impressive enough, the music video was produced by Monkeypaw Productions, with Jordan Peele serving as executive producer.

The 2025 Tribeca Festival has set its selection of shorts across narrative, documentary, animated works and music videos.

Expanded eligibility to projects previously screened in New York or online for out-of-competition consideration led to record submissions and 93 short films this year, a high among major fests.

The music video lineup curated by Sharon Badal, spans the world premiere of Kid Cudi’s new short film Neverland, directed by Ti West and produced by Monkeypaw Productions; Rock the Bells from LL Cool J; Jack White’s That’s How I’m Feeling; and Madame President by Grace Bowers.

This year’s music-centric Tribeca Festival includes features from Miley Cyrus, Billy Joel, and more. On the shorts side, Cudi and West collaborated on the music video “Neverland,” with Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions producing.

The 2025 Tribeca Festival will take place June 4-15 in New York City. In total, the festival will premiere 93 short films. The 2025 Tribeca Shorts program also broke its own records for submissions due to an expanded eligibility to include projects previously screened in New York or online for out-of-competition consideration.

Many assume isekai is exclusive to anime, but the truth is, the term might be Japanese, but it only talks about another world. Isekai in anime might be a limitation, but without knowing it, even a person who claims they haven’t watched any isekai anime has probably had contact with it.

Isekai means ‘another world,’ and that definition gives it a wide ambit that includes within it the world-hopping adventures that have been part of storytelling for centuries.

Although Disney films are family-friendly adventures made with children in mind, they often include tragic elements that have become synonymous with their films. Bambi (1942), The Lion King (1994), The Fox and the Hound (1981) and Dumbo (1941), for example, show children losing their parents, while sometimes the parents have already died before the narrative even begins.

Similarly, few viewers can watch the first ten minutes of Up (2009) without crying. While these Disney movies have a penchant for tugging on the heartstrings, others contain minimal sad scenes and opt to focus on more comedic or heartwarming elements instead. Miles Teller is sharing some details on the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic!

If you didn’t know, a movie about the late great entertainer, titled Michael, has been filming for over the past year with the King of Pop’s nephew Jaafar Jackson portraying him.

While appearing on Watch What Happens Live on Thursday night (February 13), Miles, 37, revealed that they filmed scenes for the movie at Michael‘s Neverland Ranch.

Michael first purchased Neverland in 1988 and turned it into an amusement park. He left the property in 2005 after he was acquitted on child sexual abuse charges and never returned. He owned the property until his death in 2009.

Miles went on to note that “somebody else had bought” Neverland after Michael‘s death, but said “we dressed it up” for the production.
