“I was pissed when they killed off Captain Cold”: CW Made Things Worse For Itself by Making an Unforgivable Mistake With Heatwave in The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow
Image
Throughout its run, the Arrowverse amounted to a total of 699 episodes, which aired across 37 seasons of television, ranging from good to bad and sometimes ugly in terms of quality. Similar was the case with the superhero suits, as while we had some gems with Deathstroke and Flash’s outfits, there were also a healthy number of suits, which didn’t translate well onscreen.

The Flash | Credit: CW

Heatwave’s costume is one such example from The Flash, as, unlike his partner, the character wasn’t done justice in the costume department.

Fans Point Out Their Issues With Heatwave’s Outfit From The Flash Captain Cold and Heatwave | Credit: CW

While the reception to the onscreen duo of Captain Cold and Dominic Purcell’s Heatwave was quite high, one thing that irked fans was the outfit of the latter. Although one can’t expect the suits to be on par with...

Everything Leaving Netflix UK in February 2024
Image
Pictures: Paramount, Sony, 20th Century Fox

We’re only a handful of days into the New Year, but we’re already receiving news of what movies and TV shows will leave Netflix UK in February 2024.

In case you missed it, we’re also keeping track of all of the movies and TV shows leaving Netflix UK in January 2024. If you’re looking for the US removals list, you can find all the departures for those in our February list here.

As a reminder, we typically get word of Netflix removals around 30 days before they’re due to happen. Netflix removes titles because much of its library consists of licensed titles. These licensed titles are essentially rented to Netflix for a fixed period of time, and when that time is up, they’re removed from the platform.

Unlike the United States, Netflix UK doesn’t confirm or publicize its own list of removals,...

‘WWE Nxt’ Review (Aug 29th 2023)
Image
Welcome to this week’s review of Nxt, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into it and see what went down in this episode…

Match #1: Steel Cage Match – The Creed Brothers def. The Dyad The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Julius and Brutus Creed are officially reinstated in Nxt after the brother duo defeated Rip Fowler and Jagger Reid and seemingly destroyed the entirety of Schism in the process. Fowler and Reid jumped the Creeds to start the match and Brutus was carried off by masked members of Schism, leaving Julius all along to The Dyad who used their chaotic nature to make the cage their home. Julius managed to hold on long enough for Brutus to return, and the two showed why they belong in Nxt as they hit a dual Brutus Ball and secured their reinstatement to Nxt.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5 Match #2:...

Even Flash's Villains Admit He's Mastered Heroism Better Than Batman & Superman
Image
The Flash is rarely thought of as the Justice League's most successful superhero, but even his enemies admit that he's mastered long-term crime-fighting better than Superman or Batman. While his incredibly versatile powers certainly help, it's actually the attitude Flash takes when dealing with his foes that makes the difference.

The Flash is one of the fastest men alive, and because of that, he's gathered numerous powerful villains. Some of the most dangerous villains in his rogue's gallery are characters like Gorilla Grodd or Reverse-Flash - beings who are among the most evil to ever exist. But not all of his villains are completely irredeemable monsters. Flash knows this, which is why his strongest ability isn't his absurd speed; it's his ability to grant those who deserve it a second chance. Criminals' true thoughts on the Flash are exposed in The Flash #800's story "Don't Come To Central City" by Jeremy Adams,...

My Adventures With Superman Introduces the DC Multiverse
Image
The contains spoilers for My Adventures with Superman Episode 7, "Kiss Kiss Fall in Portal," now streaming on Max.

Throughout Adult Swim's My Adventures with Superman, its title hero has gone up against some powerful tech-based villains such as Livewire and Heatwave. Episode 7, "Kiss Kiss Fall in Portal", however, introduced new kind of threat with an appearance from the classic Superman antagonist, Mr. Mxyzptlk. While visually a far cry from past on-screen incarnations of the interdimensional imp, this new version has proven himself to be a far greater threat.

With a power-based villain now thrown into the mix along with some clever Easter Eggs and cameos from past Superman animations, the main trio of Clark Kent, Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen are introduced to the concept of the multiverse. These new developements have opened up wide variety of possibilties and have widened the lore of the series in more ways than one.

‘WWE Nxt’ Review (Aug 15th 2023)
Image
Welcome to this week’s review of Nxt, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into it and see what went down in this episode…

Match #1: Nxt Tag Team Championships – Tony D’Angelo & Stacks def. The Dyad The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The Nxt Tag Team Titles remain with The Family as Tony D’Angelo and Stacks retained their titles against Rip Fowler and Jagger Reid of The Dyad. The leader of Schism, Joe Gacy, brought a host of followers to ringside, but their presence ended up becoming a hindrance as when Ivy Nile arrived, their attention from the match got diverted. As Nile stood at ringside yelling at Schism, two masked followers jumped the barricade and attacked The Dyad, allowing Tony D to hit a modified uranage to pick up the win.

Every Chronolith Trial In Final Fantasy 16, Ranked By Difficulty
Image
Chronolith Trials in FF16 are challenging combat gauntlets with timed waves of enemies, focusing on one Eikon's abilities. Players earn accessories that increase the stats of the relevant Eikons for the successful completion of a trial. Each trial encourages players to experiment with different combos and learn the strengths and weaknesses of each Eikon.

Chronolith Trials are among the most difficult challenges in Final Fantasy 16. These are timed combat gauntlets, each featuring multiple waves of enemies for players to burn down before the clock runs out. But there's a catch: each one also focuses on one of the eight collectible Eikons in the game, which means Clive won't have access to the full extent of his abilities. Successful completion of a Chronolith Trial is rewarded with an accessory that increases the Hp or Will damage dealt by one of the relevant Eikon's abilities.

Chronolith Trials can be discovered earlier in FF16 - after all,...

Final Fantasy 16’s Combat Looks Incredible, But Has A Major Flaw
Image
Although the combat of Final Fantasy 16 is flashy, stylish, and satisfying, one major flaw can bring the game's action down for some players. Breaking away from Final Fantasy tradition, FF16 is a fully-realized action game, with real-time combat courtesy of the game's combat director, Ryota Suzuki, who has previously worked on games such as Devil May Cry and Dragon's Dogma. Despite the game's character action leanings, however, one decision may hold its combat back for fans of the genre.

In gameplay, many of FF16's similarities to other action games are clear - Clive can launch enemies and juggle them in the air with attacks, his expansive moveset lends itself well towards player skill expression, and even some particularly specific mechanics mirror those of games like Devil May Cry. For example, Clive's Stomp ability, which allows him to jump off of enemies for extra height, is equivalent to Devil May...

Final Fantasy 16: Every Eikon Ability Ranked Worst to Best
Image
Final Fantasy 16 doesn’t feature the build and skill tree systems that we’re used to seeing in most Final Fantasy games. Instead, you’ll be asked to choose between up to nine Eikon abilities spread across three Eikon slots. At first, choosing between those abilities feels like a simple and sometimes obvious process. Once more Eikon options become available, though, you’ll find that it’s actually surprisingly difficult to properly unlock and test all of your abilities. Obviously, that’s why we’re here to help.

Before we get on with these rankings, though, please note that the best abilities in the game can be combo/situation dependant. Some are certainly better than others, but even “lesser” abilities can be useful in certain parts of the game. As such, don’t ignore certain abilities while you’re waiting to unlock better ones. You can always refund an ability and replace it as needed.

‘Motown 25: Yesterday, Today and Forever’ Turns 40: Michael Jackson, Diana Ross …
Image
Do you remember what you were doing the evening of May 16, 1983? Well, you may have been one of the 47 million people tuned into NBC’s landmark special “Motown 25: Yesterday, Today and Forever.”

It was the star-studded celebration hosted by Emmy nominee Richard Pryor which saw Michael Jackson reuniting with his brothers for a medley of their Jackson 5 hits including “I Want You Back,” “The Love You Save” and “I’ll Be There.”

But it was Jackson’s solo performance of his blockbuster No. 1 hit “Billie Jean” from his breakthrough album “Thriller” which galvanized the audience. It was an electrifying turn where he introduced the fedora, black sequin jacket and glove and his momentous moonwalk routine during the bridge of the song, all of which became his trademarks when performing “Billie Jean.” The New York Times described the routine as “astonishing. He is clearly the heir apparent to the dazzling androgyny...

One of the worst things to ever happen to the DC Universe falls squarely on the shoulders of the Flash. ‘The Last of Us’ Episode 3 Shoots Linda Ronstadt Song ‘Long Long Time’ Into iTunes Top 5

Sunday night’s emotional “The Last of Us” episode titled “Long Long Time,” which featured the 1970 Linda Ronstadt song of the same name, had fans in tears – and hitting up streaming services to download the song about unrequited love.

In one scene, zombie apocalypse survivor Frank (Murray Bartlett) chooses “The Best of Linda Ronstadt” sheet music to play after being rescued by Bill (Nick Offerman), whose rendition of the song expresses his own loneliness. They then share their first kiss.

Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing Started With A Request On The Set Of School Daze
Image
Once Spike Lee kicked down the door with his 1986 indie sensation "She's Gotta Have It," he made movies at a furious pace, rarely stopping to catch his breath or soak in the moment. The next film was always right on the horizon, ready to go as soon as Lee locked picture on the previous one. What's even more remarkable is that he always found time to direct commercials and music videos in the midst of his filmmaking frenzy. He seems to be slowing down a bit at the age of 65, but I hope it's because he's recharging his batteries for a flurry of activity heading into his 70s and beyond.

Early in his career, when he was generating his own material, it wasn't unheard of for Lee to write the script for his next film while in production on his latest effort. According to cinematographer Ernest Dickerson, this is exactly...

Spike Lee And Ernest Dickerson Didn't Want Do The Right Thing To Feel Like A Documentary
Image
For such a complex and troubling film, Spike Lee's 1989 film "Do The Right Thing" has a simple premise. On the hottest day of the year, in Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, tensions escalate to an unbelievable degree. Its citizens' sense of community is fractured over the course of the day as small incidents stack up, gradually building to an unforgettable climax set at a pizzeria that has seen it all. And the imagery that follows is burned into the mind of every viewer -- the heat felt in every sweaty close-up throughout the movie explodes into a fiery intensity.

In some ways, "Do The Right Thing" has a reputation for grit, for telling an honest story set in a predominantly Black American neighborhood, where every racial group has issues with every other racial group. The racial enmity is chaotic, all-encompassing, such that even the most likable characters in the movie express...

Charlie Vickers in Le Seigneur des anneaux : Les Anneaux de pouvoir (2022)
Amazon Prime Video New Releases: September 2022
Charlie Vickers in Le Seigneur des anneaux : Les Anneaux de pouvoir (2022)
With its list of new releases for September 2022, Prime Video is finally unveiling the most anticipated (and expensive) series in the streamer’s history.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will arrive to Prime Video’s servers on Sept. 2, 2022. This Lord of the Rings prequel, set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Second Age, is in many ways the kind of TV property that Prime Video must have always wanted. It’s certainly the TV property most fitting with the company’s largesse and riches. The Rings of Power will cover the creation of the titular rings and many important events from Tolkien’s lore (condensed into a more TV-appropriate timeframe).

Middle-earth is going to be the happening spot on Amazon and the streaming world at large this month, but Prime Video does have a handful of other originals for the fantasy-phobic. Flight/Risk, a documentary about the Boeing 737 Max design disasters,...

Netflix is launching an incubator to help foster female screenwriters in Egypt.

The U.S. streaming giant has partnered with Sard, a dedicated hub for screenwriters in the Arab world on a writing program called Because She Created.

Its stated goal is training twenty women from outside Cairo and to “expose untapped talent to the creative tools and industry insight needed to advance their creative and professional development,” Netflix said in a statement.

The program is financed by the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity.

Sard was founded by award-winning writer Mariam Naoum in 2016 as a space for aspiring screenwriters to improve their writing skills and unleash their creative potential.

Naoum is a prominent Egyptian screenwriter and social activist whose credits include Kamla Abou Zekry’s Cairo-set ensemble film “One/Zero”; and the TV series “A Girl named Zat,” “Heat Wave” and “The Women’s Prison,” a scathing exploration of the Egyptian prison system,...

DC May Have Found Its Kevin Feige
Gene Hackman, Terence Stamp, Ned Beatty, Christopher Reeve, Jackie Cooper, Sarah Douglas, Jeff East, Margot Kidder, Jack O'Halloran, Valerie Perrine, and Susannah York in Superman (1978)
Let’s face it – it’s been hard to be a DC fan. Despite giving the world some of the first and best superhero movies, such as 1978’s Superman, 1989’s Batman, and the Dark Knight trilogy, DC has languished in popularity behind its rival Marvel. While director Zack Snyder certainly has his fans, his run on the three main films in the DC Extended Universe put off some who don’t care for his idiosyncratic style.

The franchise seemed to be settling into a groove by releasing movies only tangentially connected to each other or not connected at all. Recent developments have only complicated things, as new CEO David Zaslav suddenly canceled the nearly-completed Batgirl and left all other movie projects in question, save for Joker: Folie à Deux.

However, it’s clear that not even Zaslav wants this chaos to continue for long. In interviews and announcements, Zaslav has...

Kat Graham Shuts Down Return to The Vampire Diaries: 'The Door's Absolutely Closed'
Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, and Nina Dobrev in Vampire Diaries (2009)
If The Vampire Diaries somehow makes a comeback down the line, we can count Kat Graham out.

The star, who played Bonnie Bennett on all eight seasons of the CW's supernatural drama, believes that was long enough.

"I mean, eight years, you know eight years of my life. I feel like I spent more time as a character than I spent as myself," she shared to Entertainment Tonight.

"I'm still that girl that was running around rogue, trying to play gigs and, I finally feel like, with especially all the films that I have – five films out this year, it's my second album I'm dropping this year – I feel like I'm almost playing catch-up in a weird way as an artist.

"I feel like I gave that show, and hopefully the fans that watch it, eight years of my life and poured so much into it and sacrificed a lot of time with my family,...

Linda Ronstadt: The Million-Dollar Woman

Los Angeles — “Miss Ronstadt’s line is busy. You’ll have to wait. I gotta check you.” The beefy guard at the front gate of Malibu Colony waits and dials again. Still busy.

Twenty minutes later, the guard gives up and waves me through. “You could be here all day,” he cracks mirthlessly “But listen … if I don’t hear from her within five minutes” … he pauses for effect … “you’ll meet the sheriffs. You don’t want to meet the sheriffs.”

The Colony. A tract of roomy beach houses...
