Hellraiser: Revelations

How Bad Timing Got A Hellraiser Reboot Project Cancelled
Image
The mind of a hedonistic criminal is our entry point into Clive Barker's 1986 horror novella, "The Hellbound Heart." This man, Frank Cotton, acquires a puzzle box which, once solved, supposedly morphs into a portal to an extradimensional pleasure realm. However, when Frank solves the puzzle, frightening, sadomasochistic creatures emerge and subject him to the extremes of the pleasure-pain spectrum. After being captured by these beings (who call themselves Cenobites), Frank finds a way to escape, return to Earth, and seek new excesses of depravity involving his brother's wife and his niece.

Such is the premise of Barker's "Hellraiser," which brought "The Hellbound Heart" to life in vivid, uncompromising shades. This 1987 film — which quickly spawned a popular horror franchise — explores extremity and excess, why humans crave it, and how the Cenobites deal it out. Barker imbues these beings with greater moral ambiguity in the initial "Hellraiser" films, describing them as "demons to some,...

The Best of the Bad Guys: Pinhead
Image
Pinhead might put his victims through more physical and mental anguish than any other bad guy in the genre, but he’s been through a literal hell of his own when it comes to the Hellraiser franchise. From the pen and direction of the all-time legend Clive Barker in the original Hellraiser to the bargain bin at Walmart—and at one point, some basement in Idaho where the even more horrendous Weinsteins slapped together Hellraiser: Revelations in the time it takes a lunch lady on meth to make a sloppy joe. Yet, in almost all of those situations, the character still delivered at least one classic moment of Pinhead wisdom—or at the very least, some ripping and tearing of the sweet, sweet flesh. Welcome to Best of the Bad Guys, where we celebrate the best of horror’s worst villains. On today’s episode, we’re highlighting the best...

Every Hellraiser Movie, Ranked According to Rotten Tomatoes
Image
Based on Clive Barker's stories, the Hellraiser franchise stands out as one of the best horror series ever, largely thanks to the iconic villain Pinhead. The movies follow concepts of Hell, pain, and temptation, showing how the curiosity and exploration of its characters can summon the sadistic Cenobites. Sporting a variety of terrifying creature designs, coupled with some of the genre's most brutal kills, the film series isn't for the faint of heart.

The Hellraiser movies can be hit or miss, with the franchise's best films being counted among the best horrors of their time, while its lesser entries are seen as some of the worst the genre has to offer. Considering how Barker's involvement grew and shrank over the years, the series doesn't have the consistency of things like Scream or Evil Dead -- but it still maintains an active and passionate fan base.

The Correct Order To Watch The Hellraiser Movies
Image
Clive Barker's 1987 film "Hellraiser" has always existed a little off to the side of the usual rogue's gallery of 1980s horror slashers. Its central demon, originally credited as Lead Cenobite (Doug Bradley), is usually mentioned alongside other notorious cinematic serial killers like Michael Myers from the "Halloween" movies, Jason Voorhees from the "Friday the 13th" movies, and Freddy Krueger from the "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies ... but he is not quite the same. The Lead Cenobite, better known as Pinhead, isn't a vicious killer who murders teenagers, but a sex deity, culled from a parallel dimension where physical pain has become indivisible with sexual pleasure. Pinhead will definitely kill you, but he will do so with extreme kink. The nails in his face were placed there as part of an extreme S&m game.

"Hellraiser" began its life as "The Hellbound Heart," Barker's 1986 novella. His film adaptation isn't quite as sexed-up,...

I Can't Believe This 100% Rotten Tomatoes Horror Movie Is Getting A Follow Up After Years Of Doubt
Image
Although Mark Duplass' initial comments about Creep 3 raised doubts surrounding the film franchise's future, Creep 2 is finally getting a follow-up show titled The Creep Tales. The Creep Tapes will explore Peachfuzz's murders in half-hour episodes, possibly shedding light on events post-Creep 2's cliffhanger ending.

I was looking forward to the follow-up to this 100% Rotten Tomatoes horror movie, and after years of doubt, I am glad it is finally happening. Since horror movie follow-ups do not always live up to the standards set by their predecessors, I always find myself questioning whether a critically successful horror flick has enough scope for franchise expansion. While some horror follow-ups like James Cameron's Aliens and Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead's The Endless have perfectly expanded their original film's stories, others like Hellraiser: Revelations and Halloween: Resurrection have only worsened my concerns surrounding sequels.

Surprisingly, however, despite having a limited budget,...

1 Original Hellraiser Character Return Can Solve The Biggest Mystery From The 2022 Reboot
Image
Doug Bradley return as an older Pinhead could clarify Jamie Clayton's role in the Hellraiser universe. Hellraiser 2022 was well-received, sparking interest in a sequel, but none have been greenlit yet. Possible sequels would provide answers to Pinhead's mystery, but there are no current plans for continuation.

One original Hellraiser star has opened up about a possible return to the franchise, and if it happens, it could solve the biggest mystery left by the 2022 reboot. The trend of reboots and sequels in the horror genre has revived some of the most popular horror franchises, among them the Hellraiser franchise. The Hellraiser movie series kicked off in 1987 with the movie of the same name, directed by Clive Barker and based on his novella The Hellbound Heart. The franchise is now formed by 11 movies, the most recent one a reboot with a new version of the Cenobites’ leader.

Directed by David Bruckner,...

10 Horror Franchises That Recast Iconic Characters (And Why)
Image
Horror franchises frequently recast key characters within the same series, with mixed results. Pinhead, Leatherface, and Jason Voorhees are notable examples. Recasting can either improve a franchise or lead to disappointing outcomes. Both the Hellraiser and Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchises experienced low points with new actors. Bela Lugosi's iconic portrayal of Count Dracula was replaced by Lon Chaney Jr. and John Carradine in later Universal Classic Monsters films. The role became synonymous with Lugosi despite his efforts to break away from the horror association.

For a variety of reasons, several horror franchises have recast their iconic characters with new actors within the same continuity. Horror franchises frequently recast key characters in reboots and remakes. However, there is a selection of characters that movie franchises have recast within the same series.

Recasting an established character is notoriously tricky and often yields disappointing results. If done correctly, however, it can improve a franchise.

Hellraiser Movies in Order (How to Watch the Series)

The mind of horror mastermind Clive Barker created “Hellraiser,” a long-lived and revered fright series. His 1987 adaptation of his novella, “The Hellbound Heart,” kicked off the franchise; eleven sequels followed. For decades it has held an audience under its spell with eerie thrills, gothic narratives, and iconic characters unlike any others seen before or since then.

Hellbound: Hellraiser II Is the Blueprint for a Good Horror Sequel
Image
Horror sequels are often dismissed as poorly constructed cash grabs, and some of the sequels Clive Barker's legendary directorial debut Hellraiser certainly don’t help that dismal reputation. Too many of these follow-ups are cheaply made wastes of time that forget any of the creative bloodshed or eroticism that defined that inaugural installment. Something like Hellraiser: Revelations didn’t just strike a nadir for the Hellraiser series, but for 2010s horror in general. Considering the spotty track record of these features, it can be surprising to realize that not only is Hellbound: Hellraiser II a good movie, it’s entertaining enough to provide a blueprint that more horror sequels should follow.

Jamie Clayton in Hellraiser (2022)
Hellraiser: Inferno Is the Most Underrated Pinhead Sequel
Jamie Clayton in Hellraiser (2022)
Whether it’s Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan or Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare, almost every horror franchise out there has a skeleton or two in the closet, i.e. a sequel so poorly conceived that it’s been all but erased from memory by fans. The Hellraiser movies are no exception. Though some might point to the fourth entry, 1996’s Hellraiser: Bloodline, as the bête noire of many a Pinhead fan, that movie gets a pass on account of the studio interference and directorial changes that saw a potentially inventive entry, set partially in futuristic space, rendered into an incoherent, but still at times inventive, mess.

No, the nadir instead came with 2011’s Hellraiser: Revelations, a sequel made in a matter of weeks to ensure Dimension FIlms retained the rights to the series. A film so horrifyingly bad that to watch it more than once would border on sadomasochism.

Hellraiser Movies Ranked from Worst to Best
Clive Barker
This Halloween belongs to Pinhead with the arrival of Hulu’s reboot of Clive Barker’s gruesome, twisted psychosexual 1987 horror film, Hellraiser. There have been 11 films in the Hellraiser franchise, not counting additional novelizations, comics, and video games, so it’s safe to say that Pinhead has long been a horror icon. Sadly, while the lead leather-loving angel of torture remains popular, the same cannot be said for the many films in which Pinhead’s shown his studded face.

Let’s look down the dark decades of a cult classic horror franchise that’s sometimes brilliant, sometimes painful, and sometimes just a torture to watch.

11. Hellraiser: Revelations (2011)

When the film license for Hellraiser was about to expire at the beginning of the last decade, Dimension Films slammed this failure into production in a matter of weeks. It shows. This story of another bunch of idiotic sex freaks accidentally opening Pinhead...

Jamie Clayton in Hellraiser (2022)
All the ‘Hellraiser’ Movies, Ranked From Worst to Best
Jamie Clayton in Hellraiser (2022)
“Hellraiser” is one of the handful of horror franchises that practically everyone knows about, even though hardly anyone’s seen most of its entries. That’s because this sprawling saga about supernatural extreme Bdsm enthusiasts, whose pursuit of physical sensation blurs the line between pleasure and pain, hasn’t had a film in wide release in more than 25 years.

Since then, the series has been kept alive, ever so barely, by squeaking out low-budget straight-to-video sequels that have little (and sometimes practically nothing) to do with the original movies. To take a journey through the entire “Hellraiser” franchise is so ill-advised, you half expect it’s something Pinhead would put his victims through. And here they are, ranked from worst to best.

11. “Hellraiser: Hellworld” (2005)

The lousiest “Hellraiser” sequel takes place in the real world — yes, the one you’re in right now — where the movie has spawned a popular online video game.

Hellraiser 2022: Release Time, Where to Watch, and How to Stream the New Reboot Online
Clive Barker
“We have such sights to show you.” That promise may come from the Cenobite priest known as Pinhead, who clearly knows a thing or two about pain, but we cannot help but follow. We want to see those sights, as presented by author and director Clive Barker in 1987’s Hellraiser and its many sequels. By the time Hellraiser: Revelations and Hellraiser: Judgment were released, the pleasure had largely given way to pain, and yet we still watched.

So it’s good news to hear that Hellraiser is being rebooted and reimagined, this time with The Night House and The Ritual director David Bruckner at the helm and Batman Begins co-writer David S. Goyer producing and co-writing the script. The movie isn’t showing in theaters, but it doesn’t take a puzzle box to figure out how to watch it. Here’s everything you need to know.

Sweet Suffering: A Definitive Ranking of All Ten ‘Hellraiser’ Films!
Image
As we prepare for David Bruckner’s new take on Clive Barker‘s iconic text Hellraiser, what better time to re-evaluate the state of the franchise up to this point?

Even a cursory glance at the ten existing Hellraiser films reveals that not all Cenobite films are made equal. And while the top film is a given, what about the other slots?

Here are my definitive rankings…

10 – Hellraiser: Revelations (2011)

Like many major horror series in the 2000s and beyond, Hellraiser properties were driven by rights issues. Revelations suffers as a result. Dimension Films needed to release a new film or else they would lose the rights, so Revelations was rushed into production and made on the cheap.

Fans of the franchise decried the loss of Doug Bradley, who for the first time refused to reprise his role as Pinhead (let’s be honest: replacement Stephan Smith Collins never stood a chance). Still,...

The New Hellraiser's Puzzle Box Has More Meaning Than You Might Expect
Image
Of the longstanding horror franchises, none has been more inconsistent than Clive Barker's "Hellraiser." I can see some of you pointing out the "Leprechaun" series, but that would require Warwick Davis' gold-obsessed slasher villain to have one good movie, let alone eight. But regardless, Doug Bradley's Pinhead is a formidable screen presence who, at the very least, is responsible for being at the center of two creative pieces of mythical horror.

After "Hellbound: Hellraiser II," the series never fully recovered itself. But even when this series had its unfathomable lows, Bradley gave it his all regardless, barring the last two direct-to-dvd entries ("Hellraiser: Revelations" and "Hellraiser: Judgment"). But the time has come for new blood to take the mantle of the hell priest with Hulu's "Hellraiser." If festival reactions are to be believed, it appears that "Sense8" star Jamie Clayton has successfully revived this series from the...

Hellraiser Movies Ranked, From Pain To Pleasure
Image
Clive Barker's "Hellraiser" series is one of the most recognizable franchises in modern horror history. The gothic horror saga that combined Bdsm, queer subtext, and philosophical agony has proven to be a favorite with fans for decades.

In adapting his own novella, "The Hellbound Heart," Barker brought some much-needed freshness to horror in the 1980s at a time when the slasher villain ruled the roost. Centered on a mysterious puzzle box, the series revealed the demonic sado-masochistic forces of the Cenobites, a priest-like order of former humans who harvest souls for violent experiments. The head of these Cenobites, known as Pinhead, is one of the true icons of horror villainy. Freddy Krueger may offer great one-liners and Jason can slice you up good, but Pinhead is the one who gets into your head.

The "Hellraiser" franchise is a curious mish-mash of great ideas, ambition, studio meddling, and harried script rewrites.

Why Hellraiser’s New Pinhead Is a Woman
Clive Barker
Pinhead isn’t Pinhead. Any Clive Barker fan will be quick to point out that the iconic character from the beloved adaptation of the novel The Hellbound Heart is credited as Lead Cenobite, and known in the fiction as “the Priest,” a devotee of a dark, arcane religion. But in an era of gimmicky slashers like Freddy, Leatherface, and Jason, the Priest needed a catchier sobriquet, and so he was dubbed Pinhead, much to Barker’s chagrin. But even as it became increasingly standard, the name always seemed like an ill-fitting title for the elegant character portrayed by Doug Bradley.

For those reasons, director David Bruckner had no qualms about casting Jamie Clayton as the Priest for his Hellraiser reboot, which comes to Hulu on October 7. “We always knew that [a female Pinhead] made sense given the history of the franchise and the kinds of fans that have embraced it,” Bruckner told The Hollywood Reporter.

Original Hellraiser Star Doug Bradley Weighs In On Jamie Clayton's Pinhead Casting
Image
David Brucker's new film "Hellraiser," based on Clive Barker's 1986 novella "The Hellbound Heart," will be released on Hulu on October 7, 2022. It will be the eleventh film in the "Hellraiser" series.

One of the more striking elements of "Hellraiser" is its particular mythology. In the original 1987 "Hellraiser" feature film, written and directed by Barker, Hell was not depicted as the sin-based, punitive, Christian version of the realm as seen in Dante's "Inferno," but as something more akin to a particularly hard-edged S&m club. In Barker's estimation, the body and the soul are intertwined, and Hell is designed for seekers of the ultimate physical and sexual experience. When a seeker opens up a mysterious puzzle box, it summons a quartet of immortal, leather-clad Cenobites whose bodies are in a constant state of mutilation. The Cenobites, using chains, hooks, and other scary cutting devices, rend their victim to shreds, showing that...

‘Hellraiser: Judgment’ Blu-ray Review
Image
Stars: Damon Carney, Randy Wayne, Alexandra Harris, Paul T. Taylor | Written and Directed by Gary J. Tunnicliffe

“We have such sights to show you.”

From Lionsgate UK, Hellraiser: Judgment – the tenth and latest of the series – is the second of two Hellraiser films to have new releases in the UK, both digitally and physically. In having same day releases with its predecessor, Hellraiser: Revelations, the two most recent Hellraiser films now sit alongside the original trilogy as having official UK Blu-ray releases.

Originally released in 2018, Hellraiser: Judgment opens in the bizarre fashion of a tramp sex offender strapped into a wheelchair, with his blood fueling the ink of a typewriter, confessing his sins to a morbid-looking auditor – played excellently by writer-director Gary J. Tunnicliffe. What follows is wildly sadistic and grotesque, all appearing before the title sequence too – a very fair warning for what you’re in for! The plot...

‘Hellraiser: Revelations’ Blu-ray Review
Image
Stars: Steven Brand, Nick Eversman, Stephan Smith Collins, Jay Gillespie, Devon Sorvari, Tracey Fairaway, Jolene Andersen | Written by Gary J. Tunnicliffe | Directed by Victor Garcia

“You summoned us, we came.”

From Lionsgate UK, Hellraiser: Revelations – the ninth of the series – sees itself with disc and digital releases for the first time in the UK, ten years after its initial release. In the ten years of its existence, only one other Hellraiser film has followed – that being Hellraiser: Judgment, which too finds itself on disc and digital for the first time in the UK, released on the same day as its predecessor.

Hellraiser: Revelations opens from the Pov of a camcorder, which ironically matches the overall quality of this film. The found footage recordings display the laddish behaviour of two young men as they approach the border into Mexico. The boys, Nico and Steven, played by Jay Gillespie and Nick Eversman respectively,...

Hellraiser Remake Coming from Dark Knight Writer David S. Goyer
Doug Bradley in Le Pacte (1987)
A Hellraiser remake is coming from Gary Barber's Spyglass Media Group, with The Dark Knight scribe David S. Goyer penning the script. Planned for worldwide theatrical distribution, the project will be completely funded and fast tracked by Spyglass, making it the first project for the company since its re-launch.

Chris Stone will be overseeing the project, with Keith Levine and David S. Goyer serving as producers. The news was officially confirmed on Monday by Barber, describing the movie revival as a "loyal, yet evolved reimagining" of the original movie.

"Clive (Barker) and I go back more than 30 years together. For generations, his brilliantly twisted and imaginative Hellraiser haunted the minds of moviegoers with its searing imagery of Pinhead. David is the perfect storyteller to continue Clive's vision for a new theatrical version of Hellraiser."

For his part, Goyer also spoke about his involvement in the project, eager to do the series justice.

David S. Goyer to Write and Produce Hellraiser Reboot
Hellraiser fans have it pretty rough, considering the significant quality drop we've seen in the series and the direct-to-video installments that were, in some cases, created just to hold onto the film rights. There are some bright spots in the Dtv installments, and Hellraiser: Judgment was certainly a step up from Hellraiser: Revelations, but it was still a far cry from where this series first started. Now, it looks like the direct-to-video days are over, with news that David S. Goyer is going to produce and write a “loyal, yet evolved reimagining” of Hellraiser.

Variety reports that Gary Barber’s Spyglass Media Group will "fast track the film for worldwide theatrical distribution" with Keith Levein on board as a producer as well. Any time a reboot is announced, fans are divided, but Gary Barber's relationship with Clive Barker leaves me cautiously optimistic that Barker will help creatively steer the film:...

Hellraiser: Judgment Finally Gets a Release Date
Doug Bradley in Le Pacte (1987)
At long last, the latest installment of the Hellraiser franchise is getting a release. Hellraiser: Judgment, which has been in the works for a very long time and said to have been finished for quite a while, will finally see a release in early 2018. If a new listing on Amazon is to be believed, Hellraiser: Judgment will arrive on Blu-ray on February 13, 2018. So, unless something crazy happens, you'll be able to see the new Hellraiser in time for Valentine's Day. And in HD, no less.

Part of the problem with Hellraiser: Judgment has to do with the fact that it was produced by The Weinstein Company. If you've been following the news cycle for the past few months, you'll know that the company is not in a good spot, given the Harvey Weinstein scandal. So it looks like, as a result of the problems facing the company, Hellraiser: Judgement ended up with Lionsgate.

Pinhead Returns in New Look at Hellraiser: Judgment
Hellraiser: Judgment (2018)
As hard as it may be to believe, we're heading toward the tenth move in the Hellraiser franchise. It's been 30 years since Clive Barker's original classic horror movie debuted, and five years since Hellraiser: Revelations arrived on the scene, which wasn't particularly well received. Still, Hellraiser: Judgment, which has been in development for a long time and can't seem to find its way to release, is forthcoming and will introduce us to a new pinhead. Now, a new image of Paul T. Taylor as Pinhead has arrived online.

Several images from Hellraiser: Judgment have been released online, but this is arguably our best look at the new Pinhead. It's been tough for horror fans to accept anyone other than original actor Doug Bradley, who played the part in every movie prior to Hellraiser: Revelations, but it's happening. Hard as it may be, Paul T. Taylor does look quite good as the famed Cenobite and,...

‘It Watches’ Review
Stars: Ivan Djurovic, Rick Irwin, Sanny van Heteren, James Duval | Written by Dave Parker, Ivan Djurovic | Directed by Dave Parker

I just finished watching It Watches, an independent horror/thriller movie which is coming VOD shortly, and I have got to say it has been a while since a movie completely pulled the rug out from under me like this film did! Honestly, I’ve seen enough movies to think I am always one step ahead of the film I’m watching, and for the most part I am, but I have to say this one outsmarted me. Which makes me very Very happy.

To director Dave Parker (The Hills Run Red) I tip my cap. First of all because I am getting tired of the found footage format. It feels like every horror movie these days has got to have that found footage/CCTV feel to it. However this...

Doug Bradley in Le Pacte (1987)
First Look at New Pinhead in Hellraiser: Judgment
Doug Bradley in Le Pacte (1987)
Next year will mark the 30th Anniversary of the original Hellraiser, director Clive Barker's scary classic that is still beloved by horror fans to this date. Nine sequels were spawned off of this original classic, but the franchise hasn't seen its best days, with the last installment, Hellraiser: Revelations, going straight to DVD in 2011, believed to be shot only so The Weinstein Company could keep the rights to the name. Next year, the series will scream back to life once again with Hellraiser: Judgment. Today we have a new photo from this thriller, featuring Pinhead (Paul T. Taylor) and the new villain known as The Auditor.

Bloody-Disgusting has this first look at The Auditor, although we don't know who is playing this character quite yet. The Auditor was described in a casting call as "the accountant from hell," who comes to Earth to study a persons sins, "before passing...

New Pinhead Revealed in 'Hellraiser: Judgment'
Doug Bradley in Le Pacte (1987)
He's back! But he's not exactly the same Cenobite we remember from the original 1987 horror classic Hellraiser. Doug Bradley opted out of returning for Hellraiser: Judgment, the tenth movie in this long running franchise. Taking over the role of Pinhead is Paul T. Taylor. And as you can see in the poster below, he looks pretty great.

It was announced last month that special effects maestro Gary J. Tunnicliffe would be making his directorial debut with Hellraiser: Judgment. With shooting taking place just earlier this year, the man is already in post-production. And has provided Bloody Disgusting with this exclusive first look at the movie.

Heather Langenkamp, who plays the iconic Nancy in the original A Nightmare on Elm Street, dropped the news that this sequel was happening. She is joined in the ensemble cast by another horror veteran, John Gulager, as well as Damon Carney, Randy Wayne,...

New Pinhead Actor Revealed for Hellraiser: Judgment, Cast Includes Heather Langenkamp
The eternal tormentor returns in Dimension Films’ Hellraiser: Judgment, the tenth film in the franchise created by Clive Barker. With production currently underway on the project, the actor playing Pinhead has been revealed, along with the rest of the main cast, which includes an actress from another enduring horror franchise, A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Bloody Disgusting reports that Paul T. Taylor plays Pinhead in Hellraiser: Judgment. An actor with experience both on the stage and in front of the camera, Taylor has appeared in a number of films and TV shows, including Sin City, Deadroom, and Super. Hellraiser: Judgment director Gary J. Tunnicliffe told Fangoria that Taylor will bring “more than a hint of Peter Cushing and Ralph Fiennes” to the role of Pinhead.

A horror icon that has haunted generations of viewers, Pinhead was brought chillingly to life by Doug Bradley in the first eight...

Outrage Watch: The new 'Hellraiser' is getting roasted by original Pinhead Doug Bradley
Doug Bradley in Le Pacte (1987)
Welcome to Outrage Watch, HitFix's semi-regular rundown of entertainment-related kerfuffles. Not feeling anxious enough already? Get your fix of righteous indignation below, and stay posted for outrage updates throughout the week. Doug Bradley is a British actor who rose to fame thanks to his role as the iconic white-faced demon Pinhead in the Hellraiser film series. So why is he ripping into the franchise's latest installment? In a slam posted to his official Facebook page earlier this week, the actor badmouthed the project in no uncertain terms, claiming he walked away from reprising the demonic ghoul in Hellraiser; Judgment after being told he would have to sign a non-disclosure agreement (a standard document that threatens legal action if the signee publicly discloses details of the project) before the script could be sent to him. "This was a three page document preventing me from talking about the script 'in restrooms', 'on elevators',...

'Hellraiser: Judgement' Will Introduce a New Pinhead
Doug Bradley in Le Pacte (1987)
Earlier this week, we announced that a new Hellraiser movie is shooting soon. This is not the Hellraiser remake that is bringing original director Clive Barker back to the franchise. Instead, this is the 10th chapter in the ongoing saga that already exists. The sequel is now confirmed to be titled Hellraiser: Judgement, with some calling it Hellraiser X: Judgement. FX and make-up artist extraordinaire Gary J. Tunnicliffe is now confirmed to direct.

The news surprised longtime fans of the franchise, as they weren't expected to see a new Hellraiser go into production so soon. As the sequel had never been mentioned in the trades. A Nightmare on Elm Street actress Heather Langenkamp broke the news herself when she revealed to ScareTissue.com that she has a cameo in the movie. Though, it isn't known how big her role may be.

Bloody Disgusting announced today that shooting has already begun on the sequel.

New 'Hellraiser' Movie Starts Shooting; Original 'Elm Street' Actress Lands Role
Doug Bradley in Le Pacte (1987)
In news that has shocked and surprised some horror fans, the first Hellraiser movie in five years is about to start shooting this month. And it will star an iconic genre actress. But perhaps most disappointing is that Doug Bradley will not be reprising his legendary role as infamous Cenobite Pinhead.

This new Hellraiser is not the long rumored remake, and Clive Barker is not involved on any level. The script comes from make-up artist Gary J. Tunnicliffe, who will also be directing. This latest sequel follows 2011's Hellraiser: Revelations, which Doug Bradley also refused to participate in. It was A Nightmare on Elm Street actress Heather Langenkamp that broke the initial news to horror website ScareTissue.com. From out of nowhere, she dropped the bombshell that she will have a cameo.

"I actually have an opportunity to play a small part in Hellraiser, the new Hellraiser. I'm so excited about it.

James Brown Biopic Finds Its Mick Jagger
With staggering sex appeal and serious star power that has lasted generations, Mick Jagger is more than a man; he's an icon. Which makes casting someone to play his younger self in a movie a pretty daunting endeavor. (Like casting Freddie Mercury almost!) But at long last the search of Get On Up filmmakers has ended, as THR announces Nick Eversman has signed on to play the Rolling Stones front man in the James Brown biopic. Eversman has an impressive list of film and TV credits considering he only made his screen debut in 2009 in a little-known crime-drama called Innocent. Since then, he has appeared in televisions shows like The Missing, CSI: Miami and House, as well as landed roles in movies like Hellraiser: Revelations, Vampires Suck, and the horror-thriller The Depraved. However, he might be best recognized as a series regular on the new CW sci-fi show The Tomorrow...

Fan-Made 'Hellraiser: Origins' Pitch Video Takes You Deep Into Hell
Doug Bradley in Le Pacte (1987)
To say that it's been a long time since anything worthwhile has been done with the Hellraiser franchise would quite frankly be a huge understatement.  After a string of terrible sequels, Dimension Films quickly slapped together Hellraiser: Revelations a few years back, a film that was made for the sole purpose of the company retaining the rights to the franchise.  Dimension's plan for nearly a decade has been to reboot Clive Barker's original film, a plan that fell apart after a series of disagreements between the company and hired talent.  It seems that Dimension just hasn't been able to see eye-to-eye with anyone when it comes to a Hellraiser remake, leaving the project dead in the water for many years - that is, until Clive Barker's recent announcement that he will be writing the reboot.

Needless to say, during the period of time where Dimension was doing nothing with the property,...

This Proof of Concept Trailer for Hellraiser Origins Sets a Hellish Tone
Hellraiser: Revelations (2011) was the latest film in this long running franchise. It was released by Dimension Extreme and it received mostly poor reviews. Filmmakers Paul Gerrard and Mike Le Han want to alter the path of the Hellraiser series of films by introducing a stronger outing titled Hellraiser Origins. Gerrard and Le Han have brought together concept art, costumes and characters together in order to make a more horrifying film. Most recently, they have released a very creepy and stylish trailer for the film, which can be seen below. This teaser trailer is part of a proposal. Gerrard and Le Han hope to make the next film in the Hellraiser franchise. However, Dimension will have final word on any future sequels, or reboots. Based on the clip below, Dimension should start signing contracts and put Hellraiser Origins into development. The concept trailer is truly remarkable, sinister and perhaps even chilling.

Clive Barker to Write Hellraiser Remake and Doug Bradley Back as Pinhead!
Horror author Clive Barker has officially been handed writing responsibilities on the 'Hellraiser' remake thanks to Dimension Pictures. Barker, who also directed the original 1987 version, met with Bob Weinstein of Dimension recently and pitched his ideas for a remake of the cult horror classic. The writer announced it all on his Facebook page mentioning an 'even darker' version this time around whilst 'telling the story with a fresh intensity'. And even better news is that British actor Doug Bradley would indeed return to once more to play Pinhead. The actor portrayed the spiky headed one in the first 8 installments of the franchise but was replaced by Stephan Smith Collins for the rushed, and poor, 2011 sequel 'Hellraiser: Revelations' which was made in 3 weeks simply to retain studio rights to the franchise. Check out what Barker had to say below....

Clive Barker Writing 'Hellraiser' Reboot For Dimension
The saga of the potential "Hellraiser" remake has more twists and turns than your average supernatural thriller about a haunted music box that unleashes grotesque monsters from a hellish alternate dimension. Basically, the Weinstein Company owns the rights to the franchise, but every few years that option threatens to expire unless they make another movie. That goes a long way toward explaining things like the direct-to-video "Hellraiser: Revelations," which utilizes reconstituted footage from other movies and looks like it was shot on a third generation iPhone over a long weekend. But it looks like the king is returning to the series: with original writer/director Clive Barker back to pen a new "Hellraiser" reboot for Dimension/Weinstein Company. Sounds spooky! Writing on his Facebook page (yes, seriously), the author and filmmaker, who publicly decried the last few movies, said that all is well in the land of hell. "A few...

The Return of Hellraiser? Hellraiser: Origins Poster Suggests Likely Possibility
No one sets out to make a movie no one will watch but it sometimes comes as a surprise to see the movies that spawn franchises. Clive Barker's Hellraiser was one such project. Rich in mythology, not surprising considering Barker's other day job, the success of the first movie led to a series of movies (nine so far), with varying degrees of success, none have come close to the original.

The franchise has been at a standstill since the release of the terrible Hellraiser: Revelations and though fans, myself included, have been hoping for the franchise to return to better days, it hasn't looked particularly promising. There was word in 2010 that a remake was in the works but it was later revealed that both the writer and director once attached (Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier [Continued ...]...

Are You Ready For A Friday The 13th Found-Footage Film?
I want to know who we can hold responsible for the found-footage subgenre. Admittedly, there have been a few films that made excellent use of the concept (the first Paranormal Activity springs to mind), but for every found-footage film there have been three that are simply dire (most of the other four Paranormal Activity films). Like so many trends that annoy me, it’s not going anywhere, and now the Friday the 13th franchise will be given the found-footage treatment.

The next installment in the Friday the 13th franchise is being produced by Paramount and Platinum Dunes (that’s Michael Bay’s company). To add a little more terror to the prospects of the next installment, there’s a good chance that we’re getting word of it now because Paramount has until 2015 to get a Friday the 13th film out before the rights revert to Warner Brothers. This might...

12 Planned Horror Movie Remakes That Haven't Happened (Yet)
Doug Bradley in Le Pacte (1987)
For many horror fans, the word "remake" tends to send chills up the spine more than ghosts, goblins and gore ever could. Intense hatred of remakes is common among the genre community, as an influx of them in the past decade has left fans yearning for the days when filmmakers were still coming up with original ways to scare us. It seems that pretty much every horror movie we love has either already been remade or is on the ol' remake chopping block – to the point where it’s getting hard to rattle off a list of films that haven’t been remade by now. Try it sometime; you might be surprised. That being said, I hope today to instill in you some small sense of comfort by showing you that just because a studio wants to remake a movie, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to happen.

Amityville 1993 - Votre heure a sonné (1992)
Underrated Sequels - 'Amityville 1992: It's About Time'
Amityville 1993 - Votre heure a sonné (1992)
Despite a handful of notable exceptions, horror sequels aren't exactly known for being the greatest movies in the world. Franchises typically overstay their welcome for far too long, resulting in never-ending cash grab sequels that are endlessly inferior to the films that spawned them. For every exceptional sequel like A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors or Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, there are several well past their prime installments like Hellraiser: Revelations and Leprechaun Back 2 Tha Hood, which is why we horror fans tend to look down on sequels, sight unseen.   Unfortunately, because of the proven track record of horror sequels, and the bad feelings that are inherently attached to them, there are a handful of truly impressive sequels that don't get a whole lot of respect, simply because they're either attached to franchises that fans had long given up on by the time they came around,...

Watch 15 Great Horror Short Films
The anthology horror film is back in the wake of the success of chapter-style horror films like The Theatre Bizarre (2011) and its announced follow-up, V/H/S (2012), the soon-to-be-released sequel V/H/S 2 (2013) and The ABC’s of Death (2012).

While this movement generates a good deal of conversation about the fondly remembered Amicus productions of the 1960’s and 1970’s like Dr. Terror’s House Of Horrors (Freddie Francis, 1965), Torture Garden (Freddie Francis, 1967), The House That Dripped Blood (Peter Duffell, 1971) and Asylum (Roy Ward Baker, 1972) among others, the comparison is not exactly accurate across the board.

While the segments of V/H/S are unified by shared visual style and a wraparound story, The Theatre Bizarre and The ABC’s of Death come off as collections of essentially unrelated horror short films loosely bound by a flimsy wraparound segment in the case of The Theatre Bizarre or a basic concept as...
