Although animehas been skyrocketing in popularity this last year alone, there has also been a rise or a resurfacing of the industry's problems that have come out of the woodwork in light of its success. Between labor shortages, poor work conditions, and new issues popping up daily, the anime industry is going to have to make some major changes in order to meet the demands of its new consumers as well as compete against rising powers from other countries.
In response to these issues, Crunchyroll and Aniplex Inc. have announced a new venture, putting forth investments to kickstart the rise of a new anime production studio under the name, Hayate. This joint effort will contribute to developing anime specifically for Crunchyroll's streaming service, marking the two major corporations' awareness that while the industry may be struggling, advancements are being made.

The anime industry might have some of the most creative animation styles to grace our screens, but they aren’t immune to changes in their production team. Whether it’s a change in director or a new studio, it’s bound to happen to most anime.
Bocchi the Rock! is one of many to face this drastic change in their team. Keiichiro Saito directed the first season with Yusuke Yamamoto as his assistant director. For Season 2, however, Saito has stepped down and passed the mantle to his assistant.

The news of Yusuke Yamamoto’s takeover wasn’t entirely a surprise, considering what else Saito had on his plate. He is also the director for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, so many speculated he favored the fantasy anime over Bocchi the Rock! What really happened behind the scenes?

Speaking during the special Bocchi the Radio! edition released after the Kessoku Band Tour “We will B” live event, Saito explained that he felt the pressure of meeting fan expectations.
Saito stated that he had no plans for a sequel while directing season 1 and felt that season 2 required a stronger focus on music and performances, something he believed was best handled by someone else.

Even if the anime is bigger and better than ever, not everyone is interested in watching those shows, and some anime may feel downright repulsive to some pop culture fans. It's true some anime are palatable for anime skeptics, such as those with a historical angle or influenced by Western comic books, but other anime series will simply never win over the haters.
That means any anime fan who wants to get their friends into anime ought to be choosy about what they expose potential new viewers to. While Black Lagoon may appeal to Tarantino fans and Vinland Saga may suit fans of historical dramas, other anime series lean too heavily into anime motifs to draw in new fans. This is because of the "you know it when you see it" factor of how flamboyantly an anime series embraces the industry's vibes, from goofy dialogue to chibi-based comedy or other tropes.

Chainsaw Man is one of the biggest manga to come out of Shonen Jump in recent years, and as such, there was a lot of fanfare when it was announced to be receiving an anime adaptation. The manga’s unique style of both action and writing made it unlike any other manga that was running at the time, and fans were sure the anime would definitively push it into the mainstream.
For the most part, Chainsaw Man’s anime was as big as people expected it to be, but critical and fan reception was decidedly mixed. While the anime was largely liked worldwide, due to the specific way the anime adapted the manga, Chainsaw Man’s anime was quick to become divisive to the point that many people have written it off as an outright bad adaptation. While there’s some truth to the criticisms, much of it is exaggerated or entirely in bad faith,...

Bocchi the Rock! took the anime world by storm when CloverWorks released its anime in 2022. This mix of music and comedy tells the tale of Hitori Goto, a high school girl with social anxiety who longs to become a rock musician. She struggles to achieve that goal, or even just make friends. However, thanks to another girl named Nijika, Hitori joins their Kessoku Band and begins pursuing her dreams in full force, even in spite of her fears.
The anime was a smash hit, gaining tons of fans. Some laughed. Some cried. Some cringed from just how real Hitori's reactions felt. Now that the anime is over, though, fans may be looking for another show about characters who face their fears to get what they want. Fortunately, there are plenty of options to choose from.
