Exclusive: The WNBA is getting its first ever scripted TV series. Peacock is developing a series titled The W.
The series, set in the world of professional women’s basketball, which is having a moment with stars such as Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, comes from two-time WNBA All-Star Chiney Ogwumike and Glow creators Carly Mensch and Liz Flahive.
The half-hour project follows a hot-shot rookie WNBA player and her inexperienced agent navigating the wild ups and downs of the world of women’s professional basketball. It is loosely inspired by Ogwumike and her longtime business partner and agent, Allison Galer, who chose an unconventional path after Ogwumike, who was the first pick in the 2014, chose the 24-year old as her rep. It will look at the “glamour and grind” of women’s sports.

“Yes, we know murder is bad.”
On October 13th, 2023, The Lady Killers Podcast released its first episode to an unsuspecting public, sparking conversation about female characters we love to hate. Co-hosts Jenn Adams, Sammie Kuykendall, Rocco Thompson, and Mae Shults gathered around microphones to discuss one of our favorite female killers, Pamela Voorhees, the murderous mother who kicks off one of horror’s most beloved franchises . Our goal was to explore the cinematic landscape of lady killers and the horrific world of feminine rage. Why do we find female villains so taboo? How do they thrive in a world dominated by men? What makes us love these glamorous bad girls and why would we die for them even though, yes, we know murder is bad?
Over the past year, Sammie, Mae, Rocco, and I have celebrated and saluted some of the genre’s most beguiling characters, from Carrie White, Amy Dunne,...

Keira Knightley lined up her next role, and it will involve cruising at sea on a big boat. Although that doesn't imply reprising her role as Elizabeth Swann in a new Pirates of the Caribbean film, it will be in Netflix's adaptation of The Woman in 10.
Netflix announced in May it will adapt Ruth Ware's bestselling novel The Woman in Cabin 10, with Keira Knightley in the leading role. Now, the streaming service unveiled the rest of the star-studded ensemble cast of the upcoming mystery thriller. The new film follows Lo Blacklock, a journalist who works for a travel magazine and gets the opportunity to review a luxury cruise, but everything takes a turn when she hears a splash that sounds like a body dropping in the water. However, the plot twist is that all the passengers on board are accounted for, and no one believes her, putting...

Countless cinephile essays have been written about remakes. From their necessity to the “rules” they should or should not follow, not to mention the “nostalgia” component in many cases, it’s a complex subject matter in the world of cinema appreciation. While some viewers prefer remakes completely different from the original, others want something nearly identical. Nevertheless, there’s something incredibly uncommon about Speak No Evil – the fact that the original flick was released just two years ago. Is such a short time enough for an American remake of the Danish movie?
The premise remains similar, only swapping the characters’ origins and nationalities. In this remake, an American family meets a British family during a vacation in Italy, leading to an invitation for the former to visit the latter’s countryside home, far from central London. What was meant to be an idyllic weekend slowly unravels as the Americans try...

In 1980, outlaw horror author Jack Ketchum published one of the most gruesome and disturbing horror novels of all time. Off Season follows a group of friends vacationing at a picturesque cottage in Maine targeted by a clan of feral cannibals living deep in the woods. Offspring picks up the story ten years later as the feral family terrorizes a sleepy town. Writer/director Lucky McKee continues the story with The Woman, a harrowing film which reverses the concept of predator and prey. In collaboration with Ketchum, McKee follows the sole survivor of this cannibalistic clan as she tangles with a country lawyer who may be worse than anything lurking in the remote wilderness.

All those years of singing Britney Spears in the shower might've paid off for actor Emma Roberts. In early August, the singer's assistant Felicia Culotta said she wanted Roberts to play the singer in the movie adaptation of The Woman in Me, the New York Times best-selling memoir about the life of Spears. In an interview with Cosmo, Roberts revealed she was ecstatic about the vote of confidence and shared a key childhood memory.
"I was like, I love her assistant," she told Cosmo. "I mean, its my true dream to play Britney Spears. Its a rumor, but I hope maybe itll come true. I mean, I remember I locked myself in my room and listened to In the Zone and said, 'I cannot leave this room until I memorize every word.'

It’s hard to say I am even a fan of The Walking Dead. Initially I only watched the first two seasons and I didn’t enjoy it enough to keep watching. Then after several more seasons, I was offered the chance to review (I think) season seven. And while I enjoyed some of it, once again it didn’t capture my imagination enough to continue to watch it. But now with the spin-offs, I thought I’d give the show another chance.
So why is a good question I guess. A huge epic zombie show still 100% appeals to me but I often thought with The Walking Dead that, because there were so many episodes each season, the quality went up and down so much. I saw The Ones Who Live had just six episodes,...

Anime history is full of excellent fantasy series, from gritty sagas like Berserk to exciting magic-laden isekai adventures like Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. Due to the genre's immense depth, many great fantasy shows have slipped through the cracks, being overshadowed by titles with more advertising or pre-release hype. One example of this is Claymore, as despite being an excellent dark fantasy tale, it often gets overlooked when fans talk about the genre.
Claymore is based on the manga written and illustrated by Norihiro Yagi, the artist who also created Angel Densetsu and the long-running Ariadne in the Blue Sky. Serialized in Monthly Shnen Jump, the series debuted in June 2001. Claymore was one of the series running when Monthly Shnen Jump shut down in 2007, forcing the series to move to Shueisha's Jump Square magazine until the story concluded in late 2014. The war genre in cinema has always maintained its own kind of cult following. History buffs flock to the genre to consume as much historical content as possible, even though war films notoriously distort the truth in favor of entertainment. Action aficionados also seek out the war genre, hoping to witness epic battle set pieces and recreations of history's most infamous armed conflicts. The war genre has served many purposes over the years, working as both a prominent genre for propaganda and, on the other end of the spectrum, offering filmmakers an opportunity to examine political and social issues.
Currently, Netflix has a wide variety of war films that span multiple conflicts, including World War II, the Vietnam War, and the African Civil War. Bill Skarsgård (It) takes over the iconic role of Eric Draven in Lionsgate’s new reboot of The Crow, and the first images from the film have been released ahead of an official trailer.
The Crow reboot will release in theaters on June 7, 2024, and Vanity Fair has shared three first-look images this morning that reveal Bill Skarsgård’s tattooed take on Eric Draven.
Director Rupert Sanders explains to Vanity Fair, “I think the beauty of Bill is that he has a disturbing beauty, and as he transforms through his loss he becomes this thing that even he can’t control. It’s that famous line: ‘Whoever fights monsters must be careful that they don’t become one.’ That look was me in the ’90s when we were squat-raving in London, [mixed with some modern influences] like Post Malone and Lil Peep. I hope people who are 19 today look at him and go, ‘That guy is us.

The New Sherlock Holmes In Sherlock & Daughter Series (Picture Credit: Facebook)
Many people worldwide are waiting for an update on Sherlock Season 5. The British mystery crime series stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in the lead roles. The last season was premiered in 2017. Many have come to acceptance that there won’t be a fifth season. Well, chances are that’s true. But The CW has announced a spin-off series titled Sherlock & Daughter, which might excite the fans of the fictional detective.
As reported by Deadline, the series will have Sherlock, a young girl named Amelia, as his daughter and even Moriarty. So it’s not going to be a melodramatic father-daughter series. The premise will be about a young American girl, Amelia, arriving in London after her mother’s murder. She learns that her father is a famous detective. The film, which has a 1980s vibe and sense of humor, debuted last year in festivals and Odin’s Eye will be using Berlin’s European Film Market to launch an expanded version.
A weekend camping trip becomes a disarming and unexpected rite of passage for three adventurous boys and one big brother looking to score with his girlfriend. All hell breaks loose when the campers fall into a nest of conspiring townsfolk and a secret society practicing ritual sacrifice to a terrifying creature from the crypt.
The film is written, directed and animated by the multi-hyphenate Zach Passero, whose has editing credits on a trio of Lucky McKee films, including the acclaimed “The Woman.” Production is by Charles Horak (“First Date”) and McKee.

Britney Spears’ bombshell memoir The Woman in Me arrived in October with damning revelations about everything from her 13-year conservatorship to her complicated relationship with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake. Though incomplete in some senses, the 275-page book was the most comprehensive overlook into the moments that she had previously kept locked away. Readers clamored for those details when it arrived, but Spears has been grappling with its ramifications ever since.
“I wanna apologize for some of the things I wrote about in my book,” the singer wrote on Instagram on Sunday evening.

The Girl Next Door is a highly disturbing movie that portrays extreme cruelty, inspired by the real-life case of Sylvia Likens and Gertrude Baniszewski. The real story behind The Girl Next Door is even more horrifying than the film itself, as it involves severe abuse, torture, and sexual assault that lasted for months. The movie is categorized as a horror film, but director Gregory Wilson considers it more of a dark drama that explores the tragic events and cases of abuse, making it emotionally shattering to watch.
Contains discussion of graphic torture and abuse.
Based on a novel by Jack Ketchum, 2007's harrowing The Girl Next Door movie is made a much harder watch after learning about the Girl Next Door true story. Both the movie and the book were inspired by the real-life case of Sylvia Likens and Gertrude Baniszewski. While the '00s had no shortage of extreme 'torture-porn' movies,...

In addition to the extremely controversial The Woman hitting the streaming service last week, Screambox has now added the extremely popular cult horror Starry Eyes, the directorial debut of Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer (Pet Sematary), courtesy of MPI and Dark Sky Films.

Back in 2012, Bloody Disgusting acquired Lucky McKee’s critically acclaimed The Woman after a firestorm of controversy that began at the Sundance Film Festival with a woman allegedly passing out in shock and this man losing his cool over the startling and uncomfortable content.

There are quite a few movies with two things that I wouldn’t put together normally that get thrust into each other for our entertainment. Mega Shark Vs Giant Octopus, Ninjas vs Zombies, Cowboys vs Vampires (yes these are all actual movies that I have seen) and now the apocalypse and clowns.
Like many movies with crazy-sounding themes, the title alone does get your attention but the story itself is actually as simple as it could be. An electrical and technological blackout has hit Ireland and now anarchy and chaos have hit the country. A group of mostly failed clowns have ended up together travelling the country and trying to survive. But, it might give them one last shot at the big time.

The Russian release of the horror movie Old Man was marketed as a prequel to Don't Breathe, even though the only connection is Stephen Lang's presence. Old Man director Lucky McKee compared this misrepresentation to the practice of creating faux franchise movies in the past, such as Zombi 2. This practice used to be common in international markets, particularly in Italy.
The 2022 horror movie Old Man was marketed in Russia as a prequel to Don't Breathe. The movie stars Stephen Lang as a hermit who takes in a lost hiker, which kicks off a sinister game of cat and mouse. Its only connection to the Don't Breathe franchise is the star, as Lang played a man with blindness who violently defended his Detroit home in the 2016 horror hit. He also reprised the role in 2021's Don't Breathe 2, taking on more of an antihero status.

Three horror classics have just landed on the Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox streaming service, which already is celebrating a massive August that kicked off with the Ghostbusters-inspired Ghastly Brothers.
Richard Attenborough’s Magic (1978) starring Anthony Hopkins and a psychotic ventriloquist dummy is the first of three movies added to Screambox, courtesy of Shout! Factory.
“Written by William Goldman, adapted from the novel he also wrote, Magic revolves around a ventriloquist seeking to renew a relationship with his former high school sweetheart,” Meagan Navarro previously wrote about the classic. “The only problem is that his dummy is the jealous type. That ventriloquist, Corky, is played by Anthony Hopkins. Unlike most killer doll horror movies, Magic favors the psychological, and Hopkins brings intensity to this twisted love story.”
She notes that this movie served as an inspiration for Don Mancini’s original Child’s Play screenplay and is currently celebrating its 45th anniversary!

Released last fall, Lucky McKee’s “chamber thriller” Old Man had nothing to do with the Don’t Breathe films, despite starring Stephen Lang – who played the “Blind Man” in both Don’t Breathe and Don’t Breathe 2. But that didn’t stop the movie’s Russian distributor from marketing it as a prequel to those films! During an interview with Jb Hi-Fi, McKee laughed about the fact that his movie is part of the Don’t Breathe franchise, as far as Russia is concerned.
McKee said, “In Russia, they released it as Don’t Breathe: The Beginning. Kind of like the Italians used to do back in the day, with movies like Zombi 2.“
Sure enough, if you search the title Don’t Breathe: The Beginning, you’ll find confirmation that Old Man is a Don’t Breathe prequel in Russia.

Netflix finally dropped the official first look at Castlevania: Nocturne, the upcoming animated spinoff to the hit Castlevania series, which lasted for four seasons from 2017-2021.
Set to release on Sept. 28, 2023, the action-packed series chronicles the gory adventures of Maria Renard and Richter Belmont during the French Revolution. The latter is the descendant of monster hunter Trevor Belmont and magician Sypha Belnades, who were two of the main characters in the original dark fantasy series. The first installment will be loosely inspired by the folklore surrounding real-life historical figure Erzsébet Báthory, who was a Hungarian noblewoman accused of torturing and killing young women. Legends say she bathed in her victims’ blood in order to retain her youth.

In December 2022, the critically acclaimed, mega-successful stage musical based on Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s book Matilda came to cinemas translated into a punchy, inventive feature film. Written by playwright and screenwriter Dennis Kelly with songs and lyrics by comedian and writer Tim Minchin (Upright), the musical – like the book – is a terrific blend of poignancy and rebellious satire.
Famously adapted for a 1996 American feature film starring writer Mara Wilson in the title role, Matilda is the story of an extraordinary young girl born into a neglectful family who are unable to see, or appreciate her uniqueness. Matilda Wormwood isn’t just an academic genius, and when she goes up against the cruel, child-hating headmistress Miss Trunchbull, she uses her powers to right a generational wrong.
The new film retains the original musical’s anarchic heart, chiefly by retaining its director Matthew Warchus, who pulled the whole thing together...

While many are gearing up for the release of Mattel’s first-ever live-action Barbie adaptation, the film’s director Greta Gerwig has been vocal about her trepidations when initially signing onto the project. When confronting the monumental task of representing the revered children’s doll on screen, Gerwig acknowledges that the challenge is part of the fun while admitting, “Usually, that’s where the best stuff is. … Anything where you’re like, ‘This could be a career-ender.’”
And that has grown to become a massive part of Barbie’s press appeal as the July 21 release date rolls around the corner. From the outside looking in, Barbie appears to be a huge departure from Gerwig’s burgeoning filmography. The film’s Techni-Barbie aesthetic and collaboration with Hollywood’s biggest names (Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling) seems like a bit of a betrayal to the A24 cult followers and Saoirse Ronan-loyalists found in Gerwig’s fanbase.

Cannibalism has emerged as the genre du jour in horror. With the success of last year’s Fresh and Bones and All as well as the second season of Yellowjackets finally digging into the human flesh, everyone seems to be exploring this taboo topic. From nightmare survival scenarios to narcissistic serial killers, these films follow humans or humanoid monsters who consume human flesh in one way or another. Some butcher and cook the meat, while others eat it from the bone, but all cannibal films offer a window into a world of depravity and a fascinating blend of horror and revulsion. We not only fear being eaten ourselves, but we often find ourselves imagining what the meat would taste like should we dare (or be forced) to take a bite.
Films about cannibals may seem like a rare delicacy, but a closer look reveals that the pickens are not so slim.
