In Fixed, premiering at the Annecy International Festival of Animation in France, Netflix has a nice feature film companion piece for its oh-so-adult animation shows like Big Mouth. This one about a pooch named Bull fetting over the imminent loss of his doggie testicles — or so he thinks — is in the vein of Seth Rogen’s very Seth Rogenish 2016 toon Sausage Party and going way back to the king of the genre Ralph Bakshi’s 1972 Fritz the Cat, which was sold with the ad line, “We’re not rated ‘X’ For nothin’, baby!”
That animated breakthrough announced loudly and proudly that cartoons are not always kids stuff, but quite frankly, compared to Fixed, it might as well have come from Disney.
Credit Sony Pictures Animation for this production, and I am not sure why they unloaded it to Netflix, but you can bet kids will have a lot more access...

Having worked on the project for 15 years, Genndy Tartakovsky is fully aware that his latest film, “Fixed,” is an anomaly. Here is a raunchy, capital R-rated 2D animated comedy about a dog having one last wild night out on the town before getting neutered in the morning and losing his precious family jewels. Despite having several acclaimed shows and a highly successful animated film trilogy in his resume, Tartakovsky’s “Fixed” could have easily not made it to the screen — and it almost didn’t several times.
“I’ve always said this movie is a unicorn,” Tartakovsky told IndieWire ahead of the film’s release at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. “It’s a dream come true to have a 2D animated, hand-drawn, R-rated movie that doesn’t rely on pop culture humor. It’s very rare.”
He is not wrong. Though on the surface, it’d be easy...

Next time someone tells you animation is for kids, consider offering “Fixed” as clear evidence to the contrary. Crude in both senses of the term — from its raunchy humor to the deliberately un-slick animation style — Genndy Tartakovsky’s R-rated feature is to “Lady and the Tramp” as “Shaving Ryan’s Privates” is to a respected Spielberg movie. Produced by Sony Pictures Animation and dropping on Netflix, where it should be right at home with the likes of “BoJack Horseman” and “Big Mouth,” the off-color comedy focuses on how a randy rescue mutt (Adam Devine as Bull) reacts to the news he’s about to be neutered.
Bull has balls (which are lovingly drawn beneath his asterisk-shaped keister), but not for long. That is, unless he can figure out some way to outwit his owners, who’ve done little to domesticate their beloved if misbehaved companion since the day they adopted him.

How’s this for a R-rated animated comedy idea: A pooch and his doggy friends go out for one wild night on the town before he’s set to get neutered. Good, right?
“I think it’s the best elevator pitch I’ve ever had,” says Genndy Tartakovsky, about the concept for Fixed, his first R-rated feature, which premiered at the Annecy film festival on Wednesday. “Every time I say it, everybody laughs. You have the vision of a movie, right there.”
That pitch, back in 2009, was enough to get Tartakovsky in the door at Sony Pictures Animation. Tartakovsky was already an established, and Emmy-winning hitmaker, at Warner Bros. Cartoon Network, thanks to shows like Dexter’s Laboratory, Powderpuff Girls and Samurai Jack. Fixed was set to be his first feature, and Sony’s first-ever R-rated animated film.
Then everything changed.

I just saw “A Minecraft Movie” and it was everything it’s hyped up to be — funny, entertaining, visually gorgeous, and (most importantly) great for kids and adults. It was a blast, and it got me thinking about the best animated comedy movies for adults like me. Dewayne Perkins continues to make his mark on Hollywood.
A jack of all trades, Perkins is a comedian, actor, writer, and producer with an impressive and diverse resume that’s only getting longer.
Fresh off the success of The Blackening, one of the freshest and most successful horror-comedy films of the last decade, which Perkins co-wrote and starred in, the rising star is trading in the big screen for an Apple TV+ production filled to the brim with Hollywood royalty.
(Dalvin Adams)
The new series, headlined by Seth Rogen, is a comedy set in Hollywood at a major studio.
Perkins stars alongside Rogen and many others to bring the story to life, and it’s a highly relevant story, given the forever-changing nature of the business.

When "Toy Story" was released in the fall of 1995, it not only established Pixar Animation Studios as an upstart studio worth paying attention to, but it also made clear to the entire animation industry that there was a new way to tell stories. Nothing against hand-drawn animation, of course, but now there was proof that computer animation could bring a wonderful, funny, exciting tale to life just as well as other styles within the medium of animation.
That was both good and bad news. It was good news because it allowed for competition to spring up in places like DreamWorks Animation and Illumination Entertainment. But the bad news was that, as was also the case with hand-drawn animation, there would be always cheaper options available. Yes, computer animation was in its nascent years, but it would improve. What if, though, some studios weren't able to progress technologically and had to use old-school-looking computer animation?...

It was the response a studio head would love. On Friday night at the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival in Austin, Texas, Apple TV+ premiered the first episodes of its new Hollywood comedy The Studio to several rave reviews from attendees.
The result should not surprise historians of the annual Austin event. The Studio co-creator, director, writer, executive producer, and star Seth Rogen has enjoyed many successful launches at SXSW, including Knocked Up, Neighbors, Sausage Party, Long Shots, and Good Boys.
“The Studio is the best new TV series since the first season of Hacks. It is so clever and funny and well directed and perfectly acted. I can’t wait for everyone to see it,” wrote Variety co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh.
Inverse editor Hoai-Tran Bui called The Studio, “Entourage, but for Film Twitter (positive). Really enjoyed seeing this with a crowd, whose laughter was so loud, I missed 20% of the dialogue.

“It’s stuff you guys haven’t heard of, but actually, Catherine won not one, but two Golden Antlers for her work as Mama Morissette in the Alanis Morissette story,” joked Rogen before O’Hara added, “What about you and your brave Golden Antler win for your turn as young Ryan, yes, in Gosling, the Ryan Gosling unauthorized biopic?...

Nothing brings out the stars quite like a Saturday Night Live Five Timers Club meeting. So when Martin Short joined the club this week, SNL put together one reunion after another as a parade of cameos came out to celebrate.
Short, a former cast member, finally joined the illustrious club this weekend. He first hosted in 1986 and has become SNL's "Mr. December" as each hosting turn has come during the holiday month.
The combination of Short's fifth time hosting, the Christmas episode, and this being SNL's 50th season created the perfect recipe for cameos. And SNL over-delivered in the cold open and in the process, organized several TV and movie reunions for fans to enjoy. In no particular order...
Paul Rudd and Martin Short represented Only Murders in the Building. While everyone (including us here at Last Night On) expected Steve Martin to show up, Martin Short quickly nixed those expectations.

For any viewers looking for shows like Family Guy, there are some great adult cartoons available. By using and often subverting the animated family sitcom format popularized by The Simpsons, Family Guy's reign began in 1999, and, like its predecessor, appears to have no end in sight. In recent years, however, long-time archetypes of shows like Family Guy and The Simpsons have fluctuated in popularity and quality. This has allowed newcomers like Rick and Morty, Big Mouth, Bob's Burgers, and Invincible to contend for the after-dark TV throne.
Even loyal viewers of Family Guy's 22-plus seasons don't need to search that far in order to find an alternative to Seth MacFarlane's flagship cartoon. Shaped by audience expectations and the evolution of both animation and storytelling styles, modern adult cartoons rival live-action series and movies in just about any category. The best adult cartoons around are among the best animated shows available anywhere,...

The Sausage Party cast is star-studded, and thanks to the wide range of celebrity cameos playing foul-mouthed food items Seth Rogen's animated comedy remains as popular as ever. The raunchy comedy Sausage Party was not what anyone expected, an adult-animated movie about anthropomorphic food in a grocery store that believes that when they are bought, they will go to a better place where everything will be perfect. However, when one food item is returned and knows the truth, it turns the entire store upside down.

While he first made a name for himself starring in comedies like Superbad and Pineapple Express, Seth Rogen has since proven himself to be not only a formidable Hollywood actor but also a strong screenwriter and talented producer. However, one film that saw him take on the responsibilities of all three jobs, starring, writing, and producing, is set to leave streaming soon. Netflix has officially announced that Sausage Party, the 2016 animated flick in which Rogen stars alongside Kristen Wiig and Jonah Hill, will leave the streamer on November 22 with no new streaming home in sight. Sausage Party follows a sausage who leads a group of supermarket products off the shelf on a journey to discover what it means to be picked at the store. The film sits at an 82% score from critics but a 50% rating from general audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

Michael Jackson fans need to wait longer for Antoine Fuqua’s highly-anticipated biopic about the King of Pop to rock their world after Lionsgate announced delays for two of its films. The studio’s Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, is moonwalking to a 2025 Easter window (April 18-20 to October 3) while looking to dominate the box office during the bunny-themed holiday. In addition to telling Michael to “Beat It” to later next year, Lionsgate dated Aziz Ansari’s upcoming comedy, Good Fortune, for October 17, 2025. According to Deadline, Good Fortune stars Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogen. It focuses on “a well meaning but rather inept angel named Gabriel (Reeves) who meddles in the lives of a struggling gig worker (Ansari) and a wealthy capitalist (Rogen).”

The 2007 teen comedy Superbad has an outstanding ensemble cast full of big-name stars. Most of Superbad's best quotes are from its three main characters, Seth, Evan, and Fogell aka McLovin, who are played by Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, respectively. Directed by Greg Mottola, Superbad is written by comedic partners Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, the latter of whom plays Officer Michaels in the film. The protagonists, Seth and Evan, are loosely based on Rogen and Goldberg and their real-life experiences growing up as seniors in high school in Vancouver, Canada.
Superbad was the 21st highest-grossing movie in 2007 with a domestic total of $121.46 million. It was a breakout movie for both Hill and Cera and is widely considered a landmark film in the modern comedy genre. It was the feature film writing debut of both Rogen and Goldberg, who went on to pen other classic comedy films...

Being two of comedy’s most famous talents, Seth Rogen and James Franco had an enduring friendship, which included a long history of riffing off one another and collaborating. Beginning their collaboration with the 1999 show Freaks and Geeks, Rogen and Franco had a friendship spanning over two decades until the duo fell apart in 2018.

James Franco was one of Hollywood's biggest stars before his career took a major hit at the height of the #MeToo movement. While the experience was undoubtedly unpleasant for the Spider-Man star, Franco now feels "grateful" for the unexpected turn, feeling that he's come out on the other side as a better person.
After starring in several feature films, Franco largely dropped out of the public eye in 2019 when he was sued for alleged misconduct involving women who'd taken his acting class. The publicity surrounding the lawsuit, which has since been settled, likely cost Franco a Best Actor nomination for The Disaster Artist, a role that had already won him a Golden Globe. Franco would later admit in a 2021 interview on Jess Cagle's podcast that he'd been intimate with some of his acting students and that he sought treatment for sex addiction.

"I Guess It's Over": James Franco Addresses Seth Rogen Collaborations & Current Working Relationship
James Franco has revealed that he and long-time collaborator Seth Rogen are no longer on speaking terms. Franco and Rogen worked together frequently throughout their careers, starring in projects such as the critically acclaimed but short-lived Judd Apatow series Freaks and Geeks, as well as films such as Pineapple Express (2008), This Is the End (2013), The Interview (2014), Sausage Party (2016), and The Disaster Artist (2017). The pair were also good friends off-screen, but their relationship went south after sexual misconduct allegations against Franco.
In an interview with Variety to promote his new Italian-language film, Hey Joe, Franco was asked if he was still in touch with Rogen, to which he replied that he was not. He also indicated that he has been attempting to reconcile their friendship, but that Rogen has been the holdout. He also stated how much Rogen has meant to him over the past 20 years. Here's what the actor had to say:

Its shocking just how different critics' opinions of a film can be from audiences, as proved by the massive disparity of certain movies' scores on Rotten Tomatoes. These were movies that, for one reason or another, ticked all the right boxes for professional critics and left general audiences feeling disappointed or, in some cases, downright hateful toward a release. Whether it was remakes of beloved classics, movies that didnt line up with audience expectations, or franchise entries that went in surprising new directions, there are plenty of movies that divided critics and viewers.
Some of the most controversial movies ever split critics and audiences and have remained highly divisive. While a high critic score doesnt automatically make a movie great, the fact that these films have received such a disproportional reaction from critics and audiences means that they each have something interesting to offer and were well worth checking out...

Playing like Percy Jackson for grownups, with a dash of American Gods and Hadestown thrown in for good measure, Netflix’s dark comedy Kaos is packed with big ideas that creator Charlie Covell struggles to explore in any depth.
Over eight hour-long episodes, my response to Kaos and its often clever upending of mythological tropes went from “That’s really cool, I can’t wait to see what they do with that” to “That’s interesting, but I know it won’t go anywhere” to “Meh.” With an impressive cast, a cheeky tone and little investment in substantive follow-through, the show goes from promising to frustrating to disappointing — albeit with tantalizing hints throughout of what could have been.

The series highlights the importance of unbiased news and how misinformation can manipulate public opinion and elections. Despite its raunchy humor, the show offers surprising insight into human follies, making it worth a watch for age-appropriate viewers.
As a follow-up to the surprisingly successful 2016 raunchy animated comedy, Sausage Party, the Prime Video series, Sausage Party: Foodtopia, could have easily devolved into an abysmal and redundant addition to the very adult franchise. However, the surprising depth of the movie has also led to the surprising depth of the series. After overthrowing all of humanity and killing most of them, Frank (Seth Rogen), a sausage, and Brenda (Kristen Wiig), a hot dog bun, do their best to maintain their new paradise and lead the others to Foodtopia. Marvel Studios never ventured into R-rated territory before the naughty Merc with a Mouth came slicing through the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The comic book movie house kept things PG-13, though they did manage to let their first f-bomb ever into "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3." Of course, all of that relatively clean language that Captain America reluctantly defended in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" gets tossed right out the window with "Deadpool & Wolverine," which drops a plethora of profanity and other vicious vernacular.
Yes, "Deadpool & Wolverine" doesn't shy away from dropping many f-bombs. Apparently the folks at Discussing Film kept a tally, and the magic swear word is unleashed 118 times, bringing the total count of f-bombs in the MCU to 119. That's not a bad number at all, and it's enough to surpass the word's usage in "Deadpool 2," probably because Wolverine is throwing it around quite a bit in this movie too.

Season 2 of Sausage Party: Foodtopia is in development, following the success of the first season on Prime Video in July 2024. The series parodies the acclaimed romantic drama Call Me By Your Name in an unexpected and irreverent manner in episode 4. Despite mixed reviews, the show features new characters and running gags, including a spoof of Armie Hammer's off-screen transgressions.
Following the successful first season of Sausage Party: Foodtopia on Prime Video in July 2024, Season 2 has officially been put in development. Functioning as a sequel to the 2016 feature film, the adult animated series follows Frank Frankfurter (Seth Rogen) and his edible pals as they rush to rescue their heavenly Foodtopia from a massive flood. To ensure their race's survival, Frank and his friends must join forces with the humans they defeated in the original film.
