“You mean the emperor doesn’t rule over just 15 people”: Unreal Engine 5 Reimagining of Oblivion’s Imperial City Is Jaw-Dropping
Image
Sometimes, a single video can completely shatter your perception of a beloved game world. That’s exactly what happened when 3D artist L. Torres decided to show everyone what The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion would look like if the Imperial City actually matched its lore-described grandeur.

The timing couldn’t be more perfect. With Bethesda’s surprise Oblivion remaster dropping last month, nostalgia for Cyrodiil runs higher than a skooma addict’s tolerance levels.

But this Unreal Engine 5 recreation makes even the polished remaster look quaint by comparison.

When lore meets reality and breaks your brain

Torres’ cinematic recreation doesn’t just upgrade textures—it completely reimagines what an imperial capital should actually look like. The 16-second clip (full video here) showcases a city that could realistically house a million citizens instead of the dozen NPCs who apparently ran the entire Septim Empire between mudcrab conversations.

Bioware’s Big Swing in Veilguard Gets Support From Dragon Age Actor
Image
Dragon Age: The Veilguard has endured substantial hardships over the past few years, and although the game turned out not so bad, what truly disappointed a lot of fans was the bad writing. While some people are upholding the game’s falling reputation, some are deeming it justified, given the current state of the game.

The game was released last year, and after facing massive backlash from the community, one Dragon Age star has decided to present her own personal response and said that the hate is coming from people who only wanted to see the game and the developers fail. Let’s delve deeper into this and find out more.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a story that extends beyond the screen

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is an action role-playing game that was developed back in October of 2024. It is the fourth major entry in the whole Dragon Age franchise,...

This French Indie RPG Has ‘Final Fantasy’-Level Bona Fides
Image
When Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was first revealed during Xbox Games Showcase 2024, it instantly caught the attention of role-playing game fans. Here was an RPG from a brand new IP that mixed the turn-based combat of Japanese games like Metaphor Refantazio with a more realistic aesthetic akin to Western titles like Dragon Age. Many also clocked shades of Persona 5, which shares a similar dynamic gameplay camera and user interface.

Outside of strategy games like Xcom, turn-based RPGs have somewhat fallen out of favor as a trend. While action games like 2017’s...

“It never broke into top 20 on steam”: Assassin’s Creed Shadows vs Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Which Game Did Worse?
Image
Ubisoft and EA have both had a rough time with their latest Aaa RPGs, Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Dragon Age: The Veilguard. We’ve seen that both games had solid launches in some respects, but neither has managed to meet expectations, either in player engagement or in critical reception.

Both of these developers need to lock in. | Image Credit: BioWare

While Assassin’s Creed Shadows managed to break a record for the franchise, it failed to crack Steam’s top 20. The Veilguard was weighed down by corporate meddling and being lackluster. But which game truly performed worse?

Both Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Dragon Age: The Veilguard have missed the mark

Ubisoft had high hopes for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and in some ways, it delivered. The game set a new peak player record for the series on Steam and we even saw it surpassing Assassin’s Creed Odyssey‘s all-time player count.

BioWare Tries to Win Over Fans With Free Dragon Age: The Veilguard Dlc With a Caveat Fans Won’t Love
Image
Just when you thought BioWare had completely abandoned Dragon Age: The Veilguard faster than players abandoned their playthroughs, the studio has emerged from the shadows with… a weapons pack. Not story Dlc. Not New Game Plus. Not even a photo mode. Weapons. With eyeballs on them.

Weapons to die for… or from. | Image Credit: BioWare/EA

In a move that absolutely nobody saw coming, the studio quietly dropped “Rook’s Weapons Appearance Offer” on Steam this Thursday. No announcement, no fanfare, just a stealth release that’s about as coordinated as the game’s post-launch support strategy.

And here’s the kicker—this olive branch is only being extended to PC players. Console players? Well, they can keep dreaming about those eyeball-covered weapons they never knew they didn’t want.

A free gift nobody asked for (but only if you’re on PC)

What Happened To The Cast Of Star Trek: Voyager?
Image
It's taken a while, but it feels like we're hitting peak "Star Trek: Voyager" nostalgia these days. It was not always like this: On the heels of "The Next Generation" movies and the sprawling war saga of "Deep Space Nine," the premise of "Voyager," which hurled a Federation ship to the other side of the universe where it presumably would encounter nothing familiar, wasn't as compelling. Initial new aliens like the Kazon were duds, and when the show tried to course-correct, it may have overdone it on the Borg storylines. For the first time, but not the last, it began to feel like there was too much "Star Trek."

However, fans have been going back to "Voyager" and discovering it more old-school charms since the streaming era kicked in -- and especially during the pandemic lockdown. The animated "Star Trek: Prodigy" serves as a sequel of sorts, bringing back multiple...

Dragon Age Can Have Its Own Mmo Too, But Like Elder Scrolls Online, It Should Explore An Independent Timeline
Image
The Dragon Age franchise is in a very precarious state right now – especially after the huge disappointment that was Dragon Age: The Veilguard. After reportedly missing Electronic Arts’ sales expectations, Veilguard had most of its dev team laid off, and BioWare remains a shell of what it used to be.

Electronic Arts has however, mentioned that Dragon Age needs live-service elements to be successful, which is true to a degree, when we look into the success of other single-player titles turned live service RPGs such as Final Fantasy Xiv and the Elder Scrolls Online.

Assuming that EA does not give up on the franchise and let it rot in limbo, they could still attempt a comeback by releasing an Mmo spin off of the Dragon Age series.

A Dragon Age Mmo could work, but it needs to be unique and free from the shackles of its existing backdrop A Dragon Age Mmo could work,...

“There has to be a balance”: Split Fiction Studio Will Never Make a Live Service Game Because Game Director Does Not “believe in them”
Image
The live service trend has been growing within the gaming industry in recent years. Even with stories of big successes and failures, not every developer is eager to follow this trend. Josef Fares, founder of Hazelight Studios and director of It Takes Two and Split Fiction, has made it clear that his studio will never create a live service game.

What a valid and true thing to say. | Image Credit: Hazelight Studios

Fares and Hazelight Studios are returning to storefronts on 6 March 2025 for the release of Spit Fiction. The director behind 2021’s Game of The Year (It Takes Two) believes that a balance must exist between being driven by financial success and creativity. This is something he refuses to compromise on for Hazelight.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard – Bioware Boss’ “Favorite Moments” Are When the Character Feels Comfortable to Disclose They Are Trans or Non-binary
Image
It has been interesting to see how Dragon Age: The Veilguard and its reception have turned out after the game’s release. The title weaves many trans and non-binary identities into its storytelling, which the game’s director, Corinne Busche, a trans woman herself, has worked on to ensure the characters feel comfortable talking about their real selves.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard focuses greatly on inclusivity | BioWare

The game’s character creation system is the perfect example of how the studio has gone to lengths to make the game feel inclusive. Players can customize and interact with the characters to a great extent, which more or less also helps in making sure there is more depth in them and the plotline.

“Some come back, some don’t”: Not Just Anthem, One More Bioware Game Created Such Massive ‘stress casualties’ It Led to a Depression Epidemic
Image
When we think about BioWare’s top failures, Anthem usually takes center stage. The ill-fated live service game became the poster child for everything wrong with modern game development—from mismanagement to technical difficulties with the much-touted Frostbite engine. But there’s another story that deserves just as much attention.

Some developers checked out, but never checked back in. | Image Credit: BioWare/EA

Before Anthem crashed and burned, another BioWare title had already paved the way for disaster. A game whose development was so troubled, it left countless developers battling depression and anxiety. Some took doctor-mandated “stress leave” for months at a time. Others simply never returned.

And now, with Dragon Age: The Veilguard becoming BioWare’s latest disappointment, it’s time we looked back at the game that started this downward spiral.

BioWare Devs Were Reportedly So Burnt Out They Wanted One Game to Fail to Make the Studio Realize “This isn’t the right way to make games”

At one point, BioWare was hailed as the king of the gaming industry. Seriously, the studio’s legendary single-player and RPG games brought an element of uniqueness and innovation that no one in their wildest dreams could’ve ever expected.

However, BioWare has been in a rough spot in recent years. The studio’s recent titles, such as Mass Effect Andromeda and Anthem, have proven to be massive failures.

Why isn’t BioWare making good games anymore? Well, it’s due to the fact that the studio’s developers are burnt out due to horrific working conditions. Things got so bad at one point that developers hoped to see Dragon Age: Inquisition fail so things could change.

Kei Hozumi and Mito Launch New Romance Manga, ‘Seishun wa Sankakukei no Loop,’ in March
Image
A new manga series is on the way from Kei Hozumi and Mito. The two will collaborate on Seishun wa Sankakukei no Loop (Youth is a Triangular Loop), which will debut in Kadokawa’s Dragon Age magazine on March 7. The story will revolve around a love triangle involving three childhood friends. The announcement was made in the magazine’s March issue, sparking some excitement.

Both authors have been building a strong following with their distinct works. While Hozumi is known for blending fantasy and romance, Mito is recognized for her yuri-themed storytelling. The new project from both should attract readers of all types, especially those interested in stories involving complicated emotional dynamics between childhood friends.

This isn’t the first time Hozumi and Mito have worked on popular manga. Hozumi previously launched The Elf Sisters Can’t Wait for the Night in Dragon Age in September 2021. The sixth volume of...

“The audience is still there”: Larian’s Policy of Making a Single Player Game is Something That EA Needs to Follow With Dragon Age

Dragon Age: The Veilguard was supposed to be the game that brought back the iconic franchise to life. Unfortunately, due to a number of reasons, it failed to generate hype and couldn’t reach its financial expectations.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is considered one of the biggest flops of 2024. (Image via EA)

According to EA’s CEO Andrew Wilson, The Veilguard was a financial failure because it didn’t feature any kind of live-service components. However, if the company takes a look at Larian’s approach with Baldur’s Gate 3, it would’ve been a profitable single-player title.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard should have followed Baldur’s Gate 3

“What does this have to do with anything?”: BioWare’s Last Minute Change to Anthem Was So Sudden Even Their Own Staff Was Confused

In the high-stakes world of video game development, few studios are as revered as BioWare. And Anthem was supposed to be its return to greatness. It was meant to be a groundbreaking online shooter that blended cooperative play (with live service) with BioWare’s trademark storytelling.

While the game is still live, it has been a disappointment. | Image Credit: BioWare

But instead of a triumphant revival, the game’s launch in 2019 became a painful reminder of how bad management and rushed decisions can ruin even the most anticipated projects. From a confusing last-minute title change to a botched live-service model, the game severely damaged its reputation.

Dark Horse Comics confirms layoffs

Unfortunately, Dark Horse has confirmed they are Rif-ing, meaning "reduction in force," this week. Their official statement shows the reason could be the opposite of a lack of money and growth.

"On Feb. 3, Dark Horse made the difficult but necessary decision to reduce staff. After experiencing a period of significant growth, we find ourselves needing to take steps in response to increasing overhead, changing market conditions, and external economic factors. We have begun to streamline all areas of the company in order to continue producing the quality content and products that have been our trademark since day one," Dark Horse Comics said in a statement confirming the layoffs.

EA Blames Lack of Live Service Elements for Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Failure Because Players “seek shared world features and deeper engagement”
Image
Electronic Arts has been in rocky waters recently, following the disastrous revenue report (and reception) of Dragon Age: The Veilguard and the general slump that has followed in its live service titles (such as EA Fc).

Veilguard in particular, was a sore disappointment to fans and critics alike, with many lambasting the developer for a subpar campaign that hinged on the ‘woke’ territory. A recent financial report from EA seems to put the blame on something else entirely, highlighting the company’s misdirection.

EA CEO Misses Again, as Dragon Age: The Veilguard a Failure Due to ‘Lack of Live-Service’
Image
Dragon Age: The Veilguard has had a surprisingly disappointing run since its release in October 2024 with Bioware’s bold new take on the well-established franchise failing to achieve the results that the studio had originally envisioned.

In the wake of its disappointing performance despite an excellent narrative and good reviews of the game, Andrew Wilson, the CEO of Electronic Arts (EA) has offered up his opinions on the subject during a recent quarterly financial call with a statement that suggests that EA may not have approved of pivoting away from live service elements in the game back in 2021.

Dissecting Why Dragon Age: The Veilguard ‘Failed’

It’s well known that Dragon Age: The Veilguard steered away from including live-service elements in its gameplay loop in favor of a more story-driven single-player experience, which seemingly worked in BioWare’s favor when many of the game’s positive reviews were considered.

Electronics Arts Revenue Falls on ‘EA Sports Fc’ Game Spending Weakness
Image
Electronic Arts saw revenue fall to $1.88 billion in its third quarter, compared to a year-earlier $1.94 billion, due in part to weakness in sales for its football game EA Sports Fc and Dragon Age game franchises.

Net income for the quarter was $293 million, just up from $290 million in the third quarter of 2023. But net bookings for the quarter totaled $2.215 billion, down 6 percent from an earlier projected range of $2.4 billion to $2.5 billion for third quarter net bookings.

“Q3 was not the financial performance we wanted, or expected,” Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA, told analysts during a post-market conference call, as he cited the “underperformance” for EA Sports Fc. He added Dragon Age “did not resonate with a broad enough audience in this highly competitive market.”

EA on Tuesday reiterated its net bookings for fiscal 2025 will be around $7 billion to $7.15 billion. That too followed a downwards guidance revision from an earlier forecast of...

As BioWare has bid farewell to Dragon Age: The Veilguard, it’s time for the development company to put all of its focus on Mass Effect 5. This is the franchise that BioWare hasn’t touched for close to eight years now. However, the termination of Dragon Age doesn’t ensure the swift development process of Mass Effect.

Kate Mulgrew has avoided Star Trek typecasting and brilliantly so
Image
Star Trek: Voyager debuted 30 years ago this month, and it’s a kick to look back at the show’s earliest days. For example, the Voyager cast are the old-timers now, as Enterprise, Discovery, Strange New Worlds, Prodigy, Lower Decks, several feature films, and now Section 31 have all followed. But, when Voyager started, “typecasting” was still very much a thing, the notion being that acting in a Star Trek production could lead to trouble landing subsequent roles after a series ended because the public and entertainment industry so strongly associated an actor with their Star Trek role. More than just about anyone other than Patrick Stewart, Voyager star Kate Mulgrew has avoided that fate.

“This is such a great job and, for me, Janeway is such a great role that even if a stigma were attached to it later on, that would just be tough luck," Mulgrew told me in...

Every Dragon Age: The Veilguard Companion, Ranked
Image
Saving the world is a tough job, especially in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, with powerful elven gods unleashing chaos on Thedas. Luckily, Rook doesn't have to go it alone as a team of seven new companions join them, each offering different skills and perspectives from across the continent. From Grey Wardens and noir-esque detectives to brooding assassins and charming necromancers, Rook will never be short of company as they set out on their adventures.

[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.]

Companions have always played a huge role in Dragon Age since the very beginning in Origins with the Warden's motley crew. With such a broad cross-section of Thedosian society all working together, there are a lot of different personalities, which means not every companion is going to appeal to everyone, while others will quickly become somebody’s favorite.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Missed The Mark With These Two Factions
Image
Being the fourth entry in a massively popular RPG series, Dragon Age: The Veilguard had some pretty big shoes to fill both in terms of story and remaining true to the lore of the series. While The Veilguard has been mostly successful, with an ambiguous story and clever lore twists, there are also some areas that felt too safe and clean for the established setting. Two factions that Rook must ally with embody this odd safe choice perfectly, making them feel at odds with the world they inhabit.

[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.]

There are six factions in Dragon Age: The Veilguard which Rook can belong to and also join forces with as they attempt to stop the Evanuris. Which faction Rook is a member of plays much more of a role than race, gender, or class, with faction-specific dialogue available during some conversations, as well as faction perks and traits. Every Dragon Age game has taken a different approach to crafting its protagonist, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard is no different, offering faction-specific backgrounds for the main character, Rook. Each of these backgrounds comes with a small story attached to help shape that version of Rook and tie them to the chosen faction. However, some have more flexibility than others and lend themselves better to roleplay.

Set approximately a decade after the events of Dragon Age: Inquisition and around 22 years after Origins, The Veilguard picks up the thread left dangling in Trespasser. After tracking down Solas with Varric and Harding, everything goes wrong when two powerful elven gods are released from the Fade. New hero Rook must put together a team made up of people from the various factions The Veilguard introduces.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard - Who Are Spite & Manfred?
Image
Dragon Age: The Veilguard introduces fans to a whole new roster of characters as Rook gathers their team to fight the Evanuris. From skilled dragon hunters and elven artifact experts to shrewd detectives and Grey Wardens, everyone adds to the party to help Rook fight anything thrown at them throughout the game. However, there are two more party members who are a little more unusual but no less important to The Veilguard's story.

[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.]

Companions and support characters have always been a core aspect of the Dragon Age series and each game's protagonists have had some odd friends. Alongside mages, warriors, and assassins have been grumpy stone golems, loyal dogs, and spirits who have found themselves trapped in the mortal world. Two such characters join The Veilguard team but stand out from previous entities seen in the franchise.

10 Dragon Age: The Veilguard Characters We Wish Were Romance Options
Image
Like all previous entries in the series before it, on top of saving the world, Dragon Age: The Veilguard allows time for a little romance, with all seven companions available for Rook. However, just like all previous entries in the series, that is not enough for some as plenty of other characters have also caught the fanbase's eye. And while some of these are somewhat obvious choices, there are others that are a little more... niche.

[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.]

Romance with non-companion characters in Dragon Age games isn't a new idea, with Inquisition offering romances with Cullen and Josephine, and both Dragon Age 2 and Origins allowed for a fair amount of flirting with NPCs. Companions can even romance each other or other characters in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, perhaps adding to the feeling of Rook being left out of the fun. And with dashing rogues, heroes, and mysterious merchants all over Thedas, there...

Baldur's Gate 4 Must Learn This Important Lesson From Dragon Age Games
Image
Baldur's Gate 3 has been hugely successful because it lets players make meaningful choices that shape the story. This success raises a big question about what Baldur's Gate 4 can do to start up again. The third game in the series has so many different endings and choices that a true canon ending is difficult. It's something that many sequels have issues with, but it feels almost unique, thanks to all the player agency BG3 has. One possible solution can be found in how BioWare’s Dragon Age games handle this issue.

Instead of following a simple, linear narrative, Dragon Age skillfully deals with player choices and their effects on the overall story. A great example is Dragon Age: Inquisition, which offers a way to honor players’ past decisions without forcing one single storyline. Inquisition uses time jumps, explores new areas while connecting to familiar locations, and subtly manages returning characters. Baldur's...

Horror Fans, Don’t Blame EA For Not Greenlighting Dead Space 4 After the Disappointing Sales of Dead Space Remake
Image
EA is taking the bullet for not greenlighting Dead Space 4, and rightly so. It was its decision not to go forward with the game due to the lackluster sales of its predecessor, Dead Space Remake, which allegedly sold only 2 million copies, which is not less but probably not enough to fill EA’s pockets.

This is one of the biggest reasons Dead Space 4 might never see the light of day. Dead Space 2 also faced a similar fate earlier this year, and the entire franchise seems to be going down a dark path at the moment.

Is it too soon to say that Dead Space is dead? Probably not, given the current situation the franchise is in.

Every Dragon Age Expansion, Ranked
Image
If there's one thing Dragon Age knows how to do, it's tell a good story. Throughout its four main installments, epic tales of ragtag teams overcoming impossible odds have thrilled and delighted, leaving many wanting more adventures. Luckily, on top of brilliant games, there are some equally fun DLCs released for the first three titles in the series to keep the escapades of the team going for a little longer.

From the very beginning of the franchise, Dragon Age has provided its fans with a plethora of extra content, from full story expansions to equipment and cosmetic items. The most recent addition to the series will not have any Dlc, although Dragon Age: The Veilguard did offer cool armor as a pre-order bonus, as well as a free Mass Effect-themed update. Only DLCs that feature story elements will be included here; however, there were some excellent smaller add-ons available,...

10 Characters Who Should Have Been In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Image
Dragon Age has always been famous for its variety of companions and Dragon Age: The Veilguard is no exception, with seven characters joining Rook on their quest to save Thedas. However, there were some familiar faces from previous titles that people understandably expected to see, either as companions or as cameos. While some of these absences make sense, there are others that seem like a missed opportunity.

[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.]

Dragon Age: The Veilguard has plenty of cameos with a plethora of characters returning from previous games, books, and comics. From previous companions such as Morrigan and Dorian to minor characters who have been expanded on, such as Harding, Evka, and Antoine, The Veilguard has lots of pre-established characters from throughout the series to make the world feel more connected. However, there are a few great characters that would have tied in well with the setting and plot that are unfortunately missing.

January 27 Will Be a Great Day for Fullmetal Alchemist Fans (But Not for the Reason You Think)
Image
In 2017, Warner Bros. Pictures Japan and Netflix International released the first live-action film adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa's beloved sci-fi fantasy manga, Fullmetal Alchemist. After several years on Netflix, the film is scheduled to be removed early next year.

According to What's On Netflix, Fullmetal Alchemist (2017) is being removed from the platform's streaming library on Jan. 27. This will likely please rather than sadden many Fma fans, as the film is one of the franchise's least popular installments. While the original 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist anime series and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood respectively hold 95% and 94% audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes, Fullmetal Alchemist (2017) has a comparatively low rating of 71%. The film was also widely panned by critics, leaving it with a dismal "Tomatometer" score of just 28%. Certain Fma fans have likened it to other "butchered" Netflix anime adaptations, including the 2017 live-action Death Note film.

In keeping with Dragon Age tradition, Rook is joined in Dragon Age: The Veilguard by a team of companions to help them on their quest to save Thedas. One companion who joins the group early is a talented assassin from the famed Antivan Crows, Lucanis Dellamorte, known as the Demon of Vyrantium, who specializes in taking down mages. However, from the very beginning of his journey with Rook, Lucanis will need help with personal demons and family matters.

All Dragon Age: The Veilguard Factions, Ranked

Returning for the fourth installment in the series, Dragon Age: The Veilguard gives the opportunity to be a member of and work alongside several different factions from all over Thedas. While some were introduced in previous games, others are new and offer different points of view on the battle with the Evanuris. With race mattering less in The Veilguard, knowing which factions work best within the narrative is key to getting the most out of every playthrough.

Rook can start as a member of one of the six factions in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, with each one offering different traits, surnames, and perks. Bioware Remembers All Your Dragon Age Choices, but Whether They’ll Affect the Veilguard’s Sequel Is Still Unknown

Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been out for over a month now, and players have had plenty of time to explore the game’s branching narratives and consequential decisions. But for veterans of the series who’ve spent years carefully designing their own unique version of this fantasy world, something feels different this time around.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Dlc Needs To Answer One Decade-Old Question
Image
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a solid addition to the series, but there’s almost no mention of the Hero of Ferelden. The game only gives a brief nod to this crucial character — a single Joining chalice found in Weisshaupt. This tiny reference is not enough for a protagonist who has greatly influenced the Dragon Age universe and shaped the stories of many characters.

While Inquisition offered some explanation as to why the hero isn't in the games, it's no longer valid. Without confirmation of where The Warden is, the game feels incomplete. Creating a dedicated Dlc could fix this by giving players a proper farewell or even an intriguing new start for the Hero of Ferelden, honoring their legacy and importance in the larger Dragon Age world. Even if it's just a nod, we need to know what's going on in their journey now.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Finally Proves The Grey Wardens Are Wrong
Image
Dragon Age: The Veilguard reveals startling truths about the Grey Wardens. For a long time, these warriors have been seen as the brave defenders of Thedas, the only ones capable of stopping the Blight and its terrifying Darkspawn. However, the series challenged this view by showing the Grey Wardens in a more complicated and troubling light, highlighting their flaws in strategy and morals. The Grey Wardens are actually a group with limitations and contradictions.

While the Grey Wardens are normally seen as the only group that can deal with the ongoing threat, they actually don't understand it much. They don't fully grasp the complex magic behind the Blight and have a troubling pattern of internal conflicts and self-serving politics, which may harm their efforts instead of helping. Once all the evidence is put together, it's easy to see how much thought went into The Veilguard bringing back this controversial faction.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard - Should You Help Emmrich Save Manfred Or Follow His Dream
Image
Dragon Age: The Veilguard has no shortage of fascinating characters, and one such character is the Mourn Watch necromancer Emmrich Volkarin. Emmrich joins the team as an expert in the Fade to assist as Rook embarks on their quest to save Thedas. As with all companions, Emmrich will require Rook's help in dealing with personal matters during his companion questline, culminating in a very important decision.

[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.]

Each companion quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is unique to them, usually involving matters from their past, and should be completed to help them achieve Hero of the Veilguard status. This status boosts their skills with a new unlocked perk and gives a new armor set, both of which will change depending on the choices made at the end of each companion's quest. This decision becomes very personal for Emmrich as he is forced to choose between his dream and his beloved spirit friend Manfred.

10 Best Video Game Trilogies Worth Replaying
Image
Video game trilogies like those from Mass Effect and Dragon Age give players a special reason to replay the games, going beyond just enjoying each one separately. The story builds on what was established in the first game, leading to a greater appreciation when playing the whole series again. Players can see how characters, gameplay mechanics, and design choices change throughout the trilogy, recognizing the developers' thoughtful decisions. Plus, when all three games are finished, players often feel a stronger emotional connection than just one game.

Playing through a longer story helps players connect better with the characters and feel the impact of their choices. Being familiar with the game lets players immerse themselves easily, allowing them to catch details they might have missed at first. This can be the world’s background, character interactions, or gameplay features. Returning to certain trilogies is a great idea, especially if it's been a while.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Companion Quests Need One Baldur’s Gate 3 Feature To Be Great
Image
The companions from Dragon Age: The Veilguard are missing something that is a strength of the Baldur's Gate 3 companions. For specifically an RPG, this effect on the game can appear strange when considering the marvels presented in Baldur's Gate 3 for both the player character and companions. Every companion quest in Veilguard feels flawed in one aspect where one change could make the interaction and overall questlines seem more authentic.

[Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.]

By learning the companion's stories and seeing them develop throughout the game, players would expect a sense of realism that makes sense both for the story and in a mechanical way. This one thing stands out near the end of nearly every companion quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which may take players out of the immersion. From what it seems, BioWare has prioritized the player having control rather than a more authentic feeling connection with their companions.
