Iron Man

Exclusive: The Defenders showrunner Marco Ramirez chats about the show, Sigourney Weaver & possible McU crossovers
Author: Scott Davis

After building up a huge following on the small screen, Marvel are preparing to unleash their television version of The Avengers with the superhero team-up The Defenders, which see’s Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist come together to fight a seeimingly insurmountable evil in New York City and sees them lock horns with the legendary Sigourney Weaver who takes on villain duties in the mini-series.

We were lucky enough to speak to the head showrunner of the show Marco Ramirez, who was also the lead runner of Daredevil and chat all things Netflix and Marvel.

“It (The Defenders) was always something that was part of the plan and when Netflix and Marvel signed the deal it was these our shows and then The Defenders, which was like this ‘superbowl’.” said Ramirez when we spoke about the hugely anticipated show, saying that there was no...

Marvel’s Runaways Is Set In The Same Universe As The Netflix Shows
We’ve always been told that Marvel’s TV shows are set within the realms of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that unites their movies. Mostly, though, this just means that the likes of Daredevil and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. can namecheck Iron Man or the Hulk once in a while. The shows don’t ever crossover themselves, though. For instance, Phil Coulson isn’t going to turn up on, say, Jessica Jones anytime soon.

Intriguingly, though, some new information suggests that the latest series to join Marvel’s TV output, Hulu’s Runaways, will be connected to the Netflix corner of the McU. If true, this will be the first time that Marvel series that air on different networks have crossed over – even in just a namedropping sense – in a major way.

The news comes courtesy of Decider, who claim that Marvel TV president Jeph Loeb confirmed at TCA 2017 that Runaways...

Listen to the Haunting Theme Song For Netflix's Castlevania Animated Series
As we wait for the upcoming animated series adaptation of the Nintendo classic Castlevainia to be released, Netflix has shared the theme song for us to listen to. It's a haunting and eerie musical score that echo's the tone of the original Nes game music.

The score is called "The True Science" and it was created by composer Trevor Morris. He also did the music for the Marvel series Iron Fist. When talking to Nerdist about the working on the project, he said:

“Being asked to contribute to Castlevania was such a great call to get. As a composer it’s just a cool, colorful and interesting world to get into, and provides endless inspiration for music. It was just such a fun and cool project to work on, I could score Castlevania for years and years."

The writer of the series, Warren Ellis, added:

"Trevor is a master of his art: hugely innovative,...

Cool Promo Art For Netflix's Castlevania Animated Series Was Inspired By the Original Nes Box Art
Some great new promo art has surfaced for Netflix's new animated Castlevania series. What I love about this is that it was awesomely inspired by the original Nes box art, only it's done in the same animation style as the game. The art features the main character Simon Belmont wielding his whip as he faces the castle in the distance, with Dracula looking over the sinister castle.

Last week the first trailer was released for the new series, which you need to check out here in case you missed it. This show looks like it's going to be so cool and the trailer definitely got me excited for it. I was such a huge fan of the original game and it's so fun to see this new series call back to that game that many of us grew up playing.

Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a...

Wicked Cool First Trailer For Netflix's Castlevania Animated Series
Netflix has released the first trailer for their upcoming Castlevania animated series and it's pretty exciting! This is the same series that's being developed by Adi Shankar (Dredd) and Fred Seibert (Fairly OddParents, Adventure Time). As you'll see, the show went with a beautiful anime art style to tell the story, which works perfectly for the property. It's been said that the series has a Game of Thrones vibe to it and it certainly shows in this trailer.

I'm a big fan of the Castlevania video game franchise and I can't wait to watch this cool looking series! Here's the synopsis:

Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself. The animated series is from Frederator Studios, a Wow! Unlimited Media company,...

Marvel’s Runaways Gets Series Order By Hulu, First Official Poster!
Update: The official Runaways social media accounts released the first official poster for the show. Check it out below!

Original Story:

Marvel is continuing in its slow domination of the universe. It started modestly enough in 2008 with Iron Man, and has since taken over the cinemas in a huge way. Similarly, they’ve stretched their reach to the TV front, starting with networks like ABC. Soon after, it expanded to Netflix with shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones, among others (all of which will culminate in a Defenders series later this year). More recently, Marvel has turned to more specific targeting of their deomographics, with shows like Cloak and Dagger and New Warriors landing on the “tween” channel Freeform.

Marvel continues to spread the love with another of its shows that’s been in the works for some time: Runaways. The show follows a group of teens who find out that their parents are supervillains,...

Details Revealed for Netflix's Castlevania Animated Series; It Will Have a Game Of Thrones Vibe
Yesterday Netflix announced that they will be releasing an animated series adaptation of the hit video game Castlevania later this year. As it turns out, this is indeed the animated project that Adi Shankar (Dredd) and Fred Seibert (Fairly OddParents, Adventure Time) were working on. So, it looks like the R-rated ultra-violent and dark take on the franchise is still in play.

Thanks to Shankar, we now have an official synopsis to share with you offering details on the story, and the producer also offers up some thoughts on what he's got cooking and boldly exclaims that Castlevania "will end the streak and be the western world’s first good video game adaptation." Here's the synopsis:

Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself.

Marvel’S Runaways Cast & Character Descriptions Revealed!
Marvel has had an interesting run with their TV shows. While we had our doubts about how everything would turn out when it became clear that they’d have properties spread out across separate networks and streaming services, it all seems to be coming together. Rather than horde their franchises to the same safe, Disney-owned entity, they divvied up their properties based on demographic. The more general stuff would go on ABC, the adult stuff on Netflix, and the teen stuff would go on other services, like Hulu.

Their first foray into the more teen-centric space with Marvel’s Runaways. Don’t recognize the name? No worries. The I.P. has nowhere near the recognizability of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and the like, but we’ve seen Marvel work wonders with relatively obscure characters and properties. At the end of the day, that red Marvel logo and overall execution...

Luke Cage: making a star of a lesser-known character
Mike Cecchini Sep 29, 2016

The creators of Marvel's Luke Cage discuss how they approached bringing the character to life on the small screen...

Luke Cage, Shades, Cottonmouth, or Mariah Dillard aren't the most high profile characters in the Marvel Universe, but most of us can remember a time when Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America were still considered second-stringers behind Spider-Man and the X-Men.

Marvel's Netflix shows have been more than just mature, ambitious attempts at making the first genuine prestige superhero TV dramas, they're also about making household names of some of their lesser-known characters (and past McU gambles like Guardians Of The Galaxy have certainly proved they're more than capable of shining a spotlight on just about anyone).

We attended roundtable interviews with the cast and creative talent behind Marvel's Luke Cage at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con. Marvel TV Executive Vice President Jeph Loeb and Theo Rossi - who...

Progressivism is on the Rise in Superhero Comics
Not only does Steve Orlando’s Midnighter comic star a gay man, it tells blunt, sex-positive stories about that character. The main cast of characters in the upcoming main Avengers comic All-New, All-Different Avengers has only one white dude.

While there is still a lot of work on the road to a utopia of complete social justice, there is a trend of progressivism in some of today’s superhero comics that is impossible to ignore.

“There’s certainly a long way to go, but [the comics industry] is moving in the right direction,” said Orlando via phone interview on Oct. 23.

Books like Batgirl and Cyborg from DC Comics as well as Unbeatable Squirrel Girl and Ms. Marvel down the lane at Marvel coalesce to paint a picture of superhero comics that not only includes a solid focus on minority and women characters, but also features progressive themes concerning identity, racial justice, body image and more.

Marvel's 'Jessica Jones' Trailer Has Arrived
Krysten Ritter in Jessica Jones (2015)

It is dark and haunting, and unlike anything we've ever seen from Marvel Studios. Marvel Has Animated Tie-Ins To Its Cinematic Universe “In The Works”
Marvel has already taken its ambitious shared-universe model and expanded it from film to television (and entered the realm of streaming with Daredevil‘s Netflix debut this weekend). Now, however, they may begin experimenting with a new medium altogether: animation. According to Marvel’s Vice President of Animation Development and Production, Cort Lane, animated tie-ins to the larger McU may be on the horizon.

During Emerald City Comic-Con last weekend, Lane was asked by a fan about the possibility of seeing animated projects set in the McU. Lane’s response was a non-committal but promising statement saying that while he couldn’t announce anything, “things are in the works.”

What “things” Lane is alluding to are a complete mystery, but he did point toward Daredevil as a “proof-of-concept” for projects that tie into the larger world that Marvel has created. On one hand, it makes complete sense that the studio...

Marvel Studios Considering Animated Movie & TV Tie-Ins?
Iron Man (2010)
With Phase Two coming to a close later this year, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is slated to expand even more with a nine-movie Phase Three that kicks off with next year's Captain America: Civil War. Marvel Studios is also expanding its brand on the small screen, with Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel's Agent Carter and four Netflix shows that kick off with Marvel's Daredevil next week. The studio also produces a number of animated TV shows that aren't connected to the McU, but at Emerald City Comic Con last weekend, Cort Lane, Marvel's VP of Animation Development and Production, was asked if there are any plans to produce any animated content that would tie into the McU. Here's what he had to say.

"I can't announce anything, but things are in the works."

What those "things" are, we do not know, but the studio does currently have animated shows Avengers Assemble...

The Internet Movie Database got the jump on Costa Ronin joining ABC's Agent Carter miniseries earlier this week, but Marvel has now confirmed the casting. The Australian actor will indeed be playing a younger Anton Vanko, whose partnership and fallout with Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) was first explored in Iron Man 2. Anyhow, expect Agent Carter to premiere on January 6, 2015. Wait Till They Get a Load of Me: 1989 – The Year That Changed Hollywood
“Twenty five years. Makes a girl think.” So said Marilyn Monroe in Some Like it Hot, and she was rarely wrong about anything, except maybe her taste in husbands. Cinematically, an awful lot can happen in 25 years and Hollywood as we know it today, emerged from seismic developments that took place a quarter of a century ago. 1989 was a game-changer; an absolutely pivotal year in the evolution of 21st century Hollywood. Chances are, whatever you watch at the multiplex this weekend will be genetically traceable to that dark, iPad-less, internetless, Jedwardless time. For those of us who are not going gentle into the dark night of their forties, the specific date of this Big Bang was August 11th 1989. That was the day that Batman finally opened in the UK.

I had never seen a line of people actually queuing around the block, except in vintage documentaries about Star Wars, but...

While it has long been rumored, Marvel confirmed today at Comic-Con that the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series will be coming to Disney Xd later this fall. They made the announcement with a 1-minute preview featuring Rocket Raccoon and Groot involved in some explosive action.

The news was announced to coincide with next weekend's premier of the big screen event Guardians of the Galaxy, with the animated series carrying the same tone and style as its movie counterpart.

Not much information was released about the series itself, with Marvel TV chief Jeph Loeb stating,

"Enjoy the cartoons, that's what you are supposed to do on a Saturday morning."

Avengers Assemble also announced it's second season with first look footage, and Ultimate Spider-Man debuted its full Web Warriors special, which premieres on Disney Xd this September.

There was also footage shown from the second season of Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.,...

Iron Man (2010)
Iron Man and Captain America make a wager in new 'Heroes United' movie
Iron Man (2010)
While the Avengers won’t return as a unit until next summer’s Age of Ultron, Marvel has had fun pairing them up in the animated world. Last year, Iron Man and Hulk reluctantly joined forces for the first Heroes United movie; this time, Tony Stark welcomes Captain America to the fray as they battle Red Skull and his Hydra henchman, Taskmasker.

As demonstrated in The Avengers, Steve Rogers and Tony aren’t exactly always on the same page. Their drastically different personalities often mean they get on each other’s nerves. In this clip from Iron Man & Captain America: Heroes United,...

Agents of Shield Renewed and Agent Carter Officially Green-Lit
ABC has formerly announced its approval for a second season of episodes for Marvel’s Agents of Shield. Also, the network has given the go-ahead for production to begin on the Agent Carter TV series.

The word that Agents of Shield fans have been waiting for has come…the spy/adventure series has been officially renewed for a second year. Despite a significant drop in rating since its impressive debut last fall, the series is still pulling in respectable ratings, averaging 10.74 million viewers and a 4.1 rating among adults 18-49 in Live+7 DVR figures. Many fans say that the show is just finding its feet after a slow start, as a result of events in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. So the second season should begin with some momentum.

But that isn’t the only Marvel series that ABC has approved for next fall. The proposed Agent Carter series has gotten the green-light,...

Marvelous Da7e #41: How Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’s Future Was Worth Ruining ‘Cap 2′
Well, Well, here we are. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the number one movie in America and the shockwave it’s third act sends through the unified universe is affecting Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC. It’s unprecedented for something to happen at this level, though it has been previously discussed, specifically when Ron Howard was pitching his grand Dark Tower adaptation as three movies with TV series in-between to fill in the narrative gaps provided by flashback.

While Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a fine film, the most interesting parts of it, culturally, are it’s place in the world’s biggest megafranchise. Yes, poor Harry Potter was dethroned by Captain America, poor Potter who kicked the sh*t out of James Bond and vaulted over Star Wars.

Marvel Cinematic Universe (9) – $2,463.3 billion

Harry Potter (8) – $2,390.1 billion

Star Wars (7) – $1,918.0 billion

James Bond (24) – $1,912.8 billion

Batman (8) $1,897.8 billion

It’s unprecedented how...

Iron Man Adrian Pasdar Playing Hulk Chaser on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could use an annoying recurring character that can turn up every now and then to stir up trouble. I’m sure there are many characters the series could choose from, what with the Marvel comic book universe being filled to the very edges of the panels with jerks trying to mess up the superheroes. For such a character, Marvel looked inward at who they already had on the payroll. They came back out having given the gig to Adrian Pasdar, an actor with plenty of experience with the world of superheroes. And you’ll never guess whom he is playing.

Pasdar first got my attention when he played Nathan Petrelli, a man who could fly and was constantly walking the line between being a hero or a villain, on NBC’s Heroes. These days you can hear him voicing Iron Man on Marvel’s Avengers Assemble.

‘Agents of Shield’: Adrian Pasdar Cast as Glenn Talbot
Adrian Pasdar has given voice to animated Marvel heroes like Hawkeye and Iron Man before on Marvel’s Avengers Assemble and The Ultimate Spider-Man, but now he’s going to see what its like on the other side of the coin as the actor is set to join the cast of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. where he will play General Glenn Talbot, a character he describes as a “sanctimonious jerk.”

Pasdar, who previously played Nathan Petrelli on Heroes, is the latest notable guest star to appear on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., following Bill Paxton’s extended stint as John Garrett and Jaimie Alexander’s appearance as Lady Sif last night, but while we don’t know what impact Talbot will have on the show ...

Marvel News: ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Supervillain & ScarJo Reflects on ‘Avengers’
Marvel Studios continued its box office success in theaters this year, with Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World having accumulated over $1.8 billion worldwide between them (despite an observable division in fans’ opinions of the films). Yet the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. television series hasn’t become an equally massive ratings success. Of course, as much as we harangue the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show, it’s worth remembering back to two years ago – before Joss Whedon’s The Avengers made all these “Phase 2″ ventures possible – to realize just how much Marvel’s shared universe experiment has evolved since then.

Jeph Loeb, the Head of Marvel’s TV division, recently indicated that more Marvel comic ...

During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actor Adrian Pasdar talked about how his involvement with the TV show Heroes helped him land the gig voicing Tony Stark/Iron Man, how much it adds to their performances to be able to record their voice work together, the different approach to bringing the character to life in animated form versus the live-action movies, and how much...

Hulk Armor Featured in Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United Photos
Here's a new set of photos from Marvel's upcoming animated film, Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United. As you'll see, some of them feature Hulk wearing his own armor. Last week the studio released the first action-packed clip from the film, which you can watch here. I haven't been impressed with anything that I've seen from this so far, and according to a lot of the comments I've seen, it doesn't look like the fans are too happy with the movie either.

In this all-new, action-packed story, Iron Man and Hulk face off against Zzzax as well as a pack of Wendigos and the deadly Abomination. Adrian Pasdar (Heroes) voices Iron Man and Fred Tatasciore (Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.) will provide the voice for Banner and the Hulk. Dee Bradley Baker (Klaus the fish from American Dad!) will do the voice of Zzzax.

Iron Man (2010)
Following the first clip that debuted last week from Marvel Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United, Marvel Studios has released seven new photos featuring these superheroes in action. Adrian Pasdar lends his voice to Tony Stark/Iron Man, while Fred Tatasciore voices Bruce Banner/Hulk, as they team up to defeat the electrical villain Zzzax (Dee Bradley Baker). This continuation of the Marvel's The Avengers initiative debuts on Blu-ray and DVD December 3.

The Invincible Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk have joined forces to save the Earth from its greatest threat yet. When two Hydra scientists try to supercharge a Stark Arc Reactor with Hulk's Gamma Energy, they unleash a being of pure electricity called Zzzax, and he's hungry for destruction. Entertainment Geekly: 14 Ways of Looking at the Marvel-Disney-Netflix Deal
Entertainment Geekly is a weekly column that examines contemporary pop culture through a geek lens and simultaneously examines contemporary geek culture through a pop lens. So many lenses!

1. The last few years has seen a rash of columns about the end of Golden Age of Television. It might at this point be more accurate to declare the end of the Television Age of Television. In the last nine months, the Netflix programming experiment produced a prestige drama with a powerful fanbase; a buzzy comedy which became a love-it-or-be-skeptical-about-it talking point; and a genuinely original (and aggressively uncommercial) series that earned accolades,...

Netflix Commissions 4 Marvel Series Leading to The Defenders
Marvel’s cinematic Avengers will be joined on the smaller screen by The Defenders, the culmination of four series just commissioned by Netflix. Luke Cage, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist were announced this by Variety morning as each receiving thirteen episode commitments. The linking device is that all four series will be set in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen, which, in the comics, has been Daredevil’s base of operations dating back to the 1970s.

This rumored set of series was revealed without naming producers, writers, showrunners or casting but would be expected to debut some time in 2014. The announcement did not acknowledge if this quartet of series will be set in the same reality as the film series. If so, it would also connect these shows to ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Netflix has received great attention thanks to their original series, a move now being...

Hulk and Iron Man Fight in Clip From Heroes United
Marvel has released the first action-packed clip from Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United. It gives us a fun sequence with the two superheroes beating the hell out of each other. I'm not really a big fan of the CG animation in the film, but that doesn't mean it will be a bad movie. I'll give it a shot, though!

Marvel's Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on December 3rd. Check out the clip and let us know if you'll be checking this one out.

Avengers: Endless Wartime Review
We all know Marvel rule the superhero box office at the moment – this year Iron Man 3 did really well and Thor 2 looks like it’ll be another hit for the studio, while their TV series, Agents of Shield, had a huge number of viewers tuning in when the pilot episode aired recently. And while Marvel are also the biggest comics publisher in the world, the difference between Marvel comics readers and Marvel movie/TV viewers is sizeable to say the least. So how to nab some of the fans of the movies and get them into their printed product, who don’t want to mess around with the monthly single issues? Marvel Original Graphic Novels seem to be the answer – self-contained, book-length stories that are written for this format rather than monthly issues, that don’t require an extensive knowledge of comics continuity and star the familiar movie characters.

Infinity #1 Review
Here we go again guys: another Marvel Event. Ready? Let’s go – Readers Assemble!

Not willing to let the dust settle from their last “epic” Event, Age of Ultron, which ended just a few weeks ago, Marvel have kicked off their latest end-of-the-world, cosmos-spanning, life-or-death-stakes Event, Infinity, starring everybody’s favourite after-credits cameo, Thanos. Avengers and New Avengers scribe Jonathan Hickman is leading the charge this time around, his first Event title in the driver’s seat, and, though I’m wary of Marvel Events, Infinity isn’t bad. Well, it’s more complex than that – but then this is a Jonathan Hickman comic!

First off, I’m pleased to say Hickman does a fine job of setting the Event up in this first, bumper-sized issue. We know who the heroes and villains are, we know the stakes, we know the story, it’s all nicely established by Hickman through a series of mini-chapters.
