Fallout: New Vegas (2010)

FAQ

Fallout: New Vegas

Fallout: New Vegas is not a direct sequel to Fallout 3 and is a stand-alone product however due to being created by the developers of the original games New Vegas is more closely linked to the plotlines of the first two games, featuring frequent references to events and locations and at least one character from Fallout 2 makes a re-appearance in New Vegas.

Events in the game follow three years after Fallout 3 and offer a similar role-playing experience; however, no characters from that game appear.

Obsidian Entertainment was created by the former employees of Black Isle and creators of the original Fallout series. Bethesda Softworks still owns the rights to the series, but they are working hand in hand with Obsidian to create a hybrid of the original series, and Fallout 3.

Obsidian Entertainment wanted to make it perfectly clear to gamers that New Vegas was not a direct sequel to Fallout 3. This was just one of the many things they did to prevent people from getting confused, and in the same stroke inform the fans of the original series that they were now in control.

However in many ways New Vegas is the true third Fallout game. Obsidian is formed of many members of the Black Isle staff who created the original Fallout games. New Vegas also features many characters, plots and concepts from the third game planned by Black Isle under the working title "Van Buren."

Obsidian Entertainment is using Bethesda Softworks Gamebryo engine that they used for Oblivion and Fallout 3.

No. However, one of the Perks says "the flamer that burns twice as bright burns half as long" which is a reference to Blade Runner also there is a pistol that looks exactly like the gun used in Blade Runner which is a 2019 LAPD Blaster however in this game its called "That Gun". Blade runner is much more futuristic than Fallout's retro futuristic setting.
