Mysterious Island

Jules Verne’s Mysterious Island Sails Onto DVD This May
I really don’t understand why people keep making “Mysterious Island” into a movie. Yes, it’s a fantastic story by a brilliant writer, but it rarely makes for engaging cinema. And while I hate to jump to conclusions, I honestly feel that director Mark Sheppard’s 2010 adventure flick “Mysterious Island” will be no different. Maybe it’s because I have a hard time taking Lochlyn Munro seriously. No offense, but my initial reaction to any scene he’s in is to laugh. Seriously. The guy is walking comedy. I know that sounds terrible, and I’m sorry. Anyway, on to the plot synopsis: As famine and death ravage Richmond, Va., five northern Civil War POWs plan a daring escape by hijacking a hot air balloon. Drifting through the night, they wake to find themselves marooned on a desert island … but they’re not alone. Littered with wreckage, the island...

Sand Sharks (2011) Movie Review
The search for the bottom of the creature feature barrel continues with “Sand Sharks”, a film which explores the long pondered philosophical question as to what would happen if sharks could in fact swim through sand. Boldly tackling this controversial issue are director Mark Atkins (also responsible for the charming “Battle of Los Angeles”) and writers Cameron Larson (“Mysterious Island”, “Alligator X”) and Joe Benkis (“Shadow People”), with an intriguing cast of television stars and vaguely familiar genre faces that includes Corin Nemec (“Supernatural”), Brooke Hogan (“Brooke Knows Best”), Gina Holden (“Saw 3D”), Julie Berman (“General Hospital”), Nick Hogan (“Hogan Knows Best”) and Vanessa Lee Evigan (“Journey To The Centre Of The Earth”).
