Saw an episode when it originally aired. The hub kept playing the same episode it seemed. Animation wasn't up to par for what I thought a Joe flick should be. Voice actors are no slouches. Good group of veteran actors, and a great set of writers. Being able to binge this series gives me some new respect for what they tried to do here. Really give it a try. Otherwise you're missing out.
This series has some descent writing to hang on but it suffers from tiny mistakes and mismanaged ideas.
If you judge it only on writing, it is actually some descent story ideas.
The problem is that this series lacks a lot of good screenplay, it lacks cues, and even stakes.
Also the basic idea of this series is A-Team mixer with a GI Joe skin. The villains look okayish but they have a lack of character and personality. They could be anyone and you wouldn't know.
But the worst thing is the animation. It is all so incomplete and lacks lines and details. Do you want to see paint animation? If you watch it for 10 episodes then you might learn to get uses to it but when compared to the old animation from the 80s? Those are some big shoes to fill.
Also let's discuss about how this series takes half the Joe's you might have liked from the old series and turn them into parodies of their roles and parodies. It's like watching Romeo and Casanova turning into Johnny Bravo and Pepe Le Pew. So if you are a fan of a certain character from the original then you better forget them and love the A team that you get here.
To put it simply, this could have been a great series. Never cheap out on production.

Over the last yrs i have seen old shows lie g.i.joe thundercats, transformers an so on get rebooted or redone or branded slightly different , well thats ok but whats not ok is most of them were really good like the first 2 i mentioned cuz i really liked the g.i. Joe renegades an thundercats redo but someone dumb decided to end them whats worse is they were just starting to get even better so i hope some reads this that can help bring them back espically cuz i grew up on all them an loved watching them cuz it gave me an old nolstalgic feeling !!! As for transformers well they dont need a new version just a retelling an better animation for the oringial reboot cartoon with some changes by adding in some of the comics story telling !! Thanks foe listening !!!
As a child of the 80s, I religiously watched G. I. Joe every afternoon. I had the toys, i drank the Kool-Aid.
I became interested in this iteration of G. I. Joe, due to the voice cast. I watched a few episodes before I started writing this, so don't think that I am not invested in it.
Voice cast aside, this is a great premise for the G. I. Joe team, but horrible animation and some weird changes in the lore let it down. Duke, as leader of the Joes, was an e-8, or master sergeant. Scarlett was an e-5, a sergeant. Flint was not an LT, but an e-6 Staff Sergeant. They got Lady Jaye right; as an E4 her secondary specialty was personnel.
Given the A-Team-type of story line and the stellar voice cast, it could have been something. Too bad.

I was highly skeptical when we found this but we gave it a chance & we are glad we did!!! If you are expecting that campy 80 cartoon then you will be surprised as well. There are no weak storytelling , great character development, no constant yelling of Yoooo Joe or Cobraaaa!! This is a modern version of the original that is perfect for today. The storyline was amazing, we LOVE the new look of Cobra & how they bring them all together!! Zartan & Storm shadows stories are well done. We have no idea why this was only picked up for one season, it deserved a full run. Yes, there are some flaws but the are easily overlooked. Enjoy the new edge GI Joe.
