Many A-list actors have begun their careers with modest salaries before they hiked it up to millions of dollars. Then, there are actors like Ryan Gosling and George Clooney, who willingly agree to work for breadcrumbs because they see the potential in those films. There are even actors who worked for free just because they were so passionate about the film.

From Jennifer Lopez to Hilary Swank, the shockingly low salaries of these actors are bound to make you surprised. And fans may weirdly notice the pattern that all of the films in this list of lowest-paid roles are critical and commercial hits.

The month of February is ending soon, which means series and movies will be leaving Netflix. You only have a few days left to catch these gems. There might be almost too much to try to see but so little time.
Don't worry, though. We have some ideas for you if you are in a movie mood. There will still be lots left to watch in March on your favorite streamer, just not these.
The films below are not all Oscar-worthy. That doesn't make them less enjoyable. In fact, sometimes you might just want to sit back and chill to something silly.
Five films to catch before they leave Netflix in FebruaryInception
Before there was Everything Everywhere All at Once, there was Inception. It has levels (literally) of storytelling, and one will get transfixed on how any of it is going to work. It does, and brilliantly so. In the hands of director Christopher Nolan,...

Disney is a studio known for creating pure magic with their films, but not even the most acclaimed artists can have a hit on their hands 100% of the time. As Disney has gone through different eras with its animation and live-action releases, the studio has had its fair share of flops. More recently, with a shift in emphasis on live-action remakes of its classic animated tales, Disney has disappointed audiences as it shallowly attempts to cultivate nostalgia by translating beautifully animated musicals into CGI-inundated, bland, poorly-written content.
Though these frequent missteps are new, Disney isn't a stranger to less-than-desirable films. The studio has had similar issues with audience reception during their early 2000s period and even back in the 1980s after Disney's first PG-rated animated film, The Black Cauldron, severely tanked at the box office. Seeing such faulty storytelling and filmmaking from Disney can be hard to stomach, especially for their most loyal fans.

To this day, one of the most heartbreaking tragedies in the history of comedy is the death of John Candy. The Uncle Buck star was just 43 years old when he succumbed to a heart attack while filming the Western spoof Wagon’s East.
Making his passing all the sadder is the sense that Candy clearly had a lot more to contribute to the entertainment world — even beyond the last few minutes of Wagon’s East, which were unconvincingly stitched together using old takes and early ‘90s computer technology.
Candy’s life is now the subject of a new biography by Paul Myers (brother of Mike), who previously tackled the subject of iconic Canadian comedians in the book The Kids in the Hall: One Dumb Guy. Myers’ John Candy: A Life in Comedy doesn’t come out until October, but the author recently chatted with People about the project, and suggested...

While many people tend to immediately switch into Holiday Mode after Halloween has passed by, watching movies like Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Home for the Holidays, or a variety of Christmas classics, new releases this weekend seem to be clinging onto the more dark and macabre genre of movies to choose from this week. Sales from the box office last week are still neck and neck with Venom: The Last Dance maintaining the lead and The Wild Robot reclaiming the #2 spot, surpassing the horror sequel, Smile 2.

Teddy is one of the most beloved characters in Bobs Burgers, and the episodes with an A-plot or B-plot centered around him are some of the shows funniest installments. John Candy was one of the most beloved comedians of the 1980s and 1990s who had plenty of incredibly underrated movies that didnt get enough love. While the late actor died tragically young at age 43, this was not before leaving the world with some of the most iconic comedic performances ever put to the screen in classics like Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Uncle Buck. However, for every legendary Candy performance, there was another hidden gem that, despite being equally hilarious, failed to gain the same lasting legacy as his best-known work.
The best John Candy movies included acclaimed collaborations with comedy greats like Steve Martin, Bill Murray, and Mel Brooks, although lesser-known releases also paired him with the likes of Tom Hanks, Dan Aykroyd, and Richard Pryor. While some underrated movies suffered from lackluster screenplays, Candys vulnerable sincerity and likable comedic charm helped elevate them into solid comedies. There...

Although 2013's Planes is considered a part of the Pixar universe, it was not actually made by the studio. Planes, which follows a crop duster whose dream is to compete in the Wings Around The Globe race, is a spinoff of the popular Cars franchise. Following the success of Planes, Planes: Fire and Rescue, was released in 2014 as a sequel. There was supposed to be a third installment in the Planes franchise as well, but it was canceled after the production studio behind the movie was closed.
Pixar has produced several movies for Disney, including the record-breaking Inside Out 2. The studio was behind developing the Cars franchise but did not produce the spinoff, Planes, despite the movies being set in the same universe. Pixar might not have been behind the production of Planes, but there are some things in the feature film that connect it to Pixar's Cars.

There is something about playing villains in superhero films that Jared Leto botches every time he is a part of them. While his Joker in Suicide Squad was forgettable at best, his Morbius is still one of the most popular memes on the Internet. The actor is rumored to have been offered the role of Skeletor in Amazon’s upcoming Masters of the Universe film.
Fans are naturally not happy with the alleged casting as Leto’s track record has been terrible so far. Despite winning an Oscar for Dallas Buyer’s Club, franchise films do not seem to be his cup of tea. However, fans seem to be campaigning for The Lord of the Rings’ Aragorn, Viggo Mortensen to be cast as Skeletor in the film.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, there are eighteen Disney animated films that didn't live up to expectations. When my younger brother was growing up, he went through an extreme car phase. We're talking collecting Micro Machines of every variety and cruising around in an electric kids Ride-On Jeep. What I'm saying is, when Pixar's "Cars" films proved hugely popular with younger Millennials and the first wave of Gen Z-ers starting in the '00s, I understood why. I was there, Gandalf.
Out of all of the animation powerhouse's franchises, "Cars" has always been the most contentious. Also, the personalities of the vehicles tend to be based on broad cultural or ethnic stereotypes associated with their models. Roger Craig Smith wasn't always destined to be the prolific voiceover artist he is today. Before becoming the man behind beloved video game icons like Sonic the Hedgehog and Assassin's Creed's Ezio Auditore da Firenze or taking on film and television roles from Avengers Assemble to Planes, he had hopes of making it in the world of stand-up comedy. However, by his own account, he wasn't particularly good at it. Although he wasn't going to make it big performing sets, he revealed during a panel hosted by Collider's Perri Nemiroff at Fan Expo in Calgary that bombing as a comic was what ultimately pushed him to pursue a career in voice acting.

Fresh off an arc on “St. Elsewhere” which infamously had his character contract AIDS from a one-night stand, his career was red hot. For a while, he was seriously considered to replace Don Johnson on “Miami Vice” after contract negotiations fell through, and in 1987-88, we got a bunch of starring vehicles that would try him out in a variety of genres to see if one would stick. Toy Story 5 will break Pixar records with the most movies set in the same continuity, surpassing Cars. The Planes spinoffs tie into the Cars universe with help from key Pixar figures like John Lasseter. Despite the popular Pixar Theory, not all Pixar movies are part of the same canon, but hidden references imply a connection between the films.
Pixar has always been an animation trendsetter, but Toy Story 5 will mean the film series becoming truly unique among the studio's past works. Currently, another Pixar property is leading in one impressive category, but the fifth Toy Story movie will break this record when the movie is released in 2026. The return of Buzz and Woody could represent a much-needed financial win for Pixar, with 2017's Coco being the last original movie from the studio to make an impact at the box office. However, financial achievements aside, Toy Story 5 will...

The Toy Story franchise is one of the biggest animated series that has ever been produced. The initial movie launched a studio into cinemas, and the characters and worlds built within the series have gone on to inspire spinoff shows, theme park rides and attractions, video games, and countless commercial licensing opportunities. It's thus not surprising that Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the gang will be returning to screens.
There are a lot of question marks surrounding Toy Story 5, with the creative minds behind the project keeping the details locked down. There has to be a good story there to bring audiences back for more, especially since Toy Story 4 concluded with the group going their separate ways. Regardless, it's doubtless that Toy Story 5 will perform exceptionally well at the box office, but what is known to be in store for fans in its upcoming entry?...

You know what they say about Old Man Marley, the South Bend Shovel Slayer? Back in ’58, he murdered his whole family and half the people on a suburban Chicago block with a snow shovel. He’s been hiding out there ever since, disguising the remains of his misdeeds by turning victims to mummies, and using the dust off their bones to salt our streets.
That’s what the kids in the McCallister house tell each other every cold December night when the lonely stranger played by Roberts Blossom appears outside their window. It’s of course a lie, but the truth was originally a lot more enigmatic in the early drafts of the Home Alone screenplay penned by John Hughes, who was a maestro of family and youth entertainment during the 1980s and early ‘90s.
At its inception, Home Alone was both a departure and a return to the well for Hughes.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles is John Hughes' most complete and affecting film, with iconic comedic scenes and a deeply moving viewing experience. The film's central dynamic between Del and Neal is established in the opening sequence, as Del continually tries to please Neal, who finds him highly annoying. Despite taking place around Thanksgiving, the film's universal themes of acceptance, forgiveness, and thankfulness, along with the setting, make it an excellent viewing during Christmastime.
The beloved 1987 comedy-drama film Planes, Trains and Automobiles marked John Hughes’ first directorial foray outside the teen film genre, which Hughes, of course, revolutionized with the films The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Pretty in Pink, and Sixteen Candles.
While Anthony Michael Hall and Molly Ringwald became muses for Hughes within the teen film genre, Planes, Trains and Automobiles gave Hughes a new muse in the form of star John Candy, who had co-starred in the...

Go to Google and search for movies based around Halloween, and you'll spend your whole day combing through the various motion pictures dealing with the night of tricks and treats. Do the same for films about Christmas and you could spend a whole year running down the various films of all genres dealing with that holiday. But sandwiched in between these two holidays is Thanksgiving. There are a scant amount of films dealing with this holiday, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Hannah and Her Sisters, and Free Birds are the few that come to mind. Movies just haven’t been very interested in one of the tenets of the holiday season. Why is that? Hollywood has been exploiting the holidays as an easy way to get money and the attention of moviegoers for decades. With so much focus on Halloween, why is Thanksgiving left out in the cold when it comes to movies?...

The film Fantastic Mr. Fox brilliantly captures the spirit of autumn through its meticulous design and stop-motion animation, with a color palette that screams autumn. The wildlife setting and danger-filled farms in the film add to the story's depth and give a sense of danger and adventure. The film explores themes of family, community, and the acceptance of one's instincts while emphasizing the importance of food in bringing people together. It is the perfect movie to watch over a Thanksgiving feast.
Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and across the country, people are preparing to spend time with family, learn about the cultural origins of the holiday and its basis in Native American culture, and, above all else, eat. Meanwhile, movie buffs are preparing for their annual viewings of either A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving or Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, and obviously, both of these are fantastic choices.

Most of main cast of Seinfeld had a difficult time finding individual mainstream success after the series ended TV appearances seem to make up the majority of their careers, but it seems to be changing Any lack of success is either self-afflicted or not their fault at all
Seinfeld was one of the most decade defining sitcoms of the 1990s and its popularity and influence hasn't seemed to waver since it ended. The show was popular, in fact, that its practically impossible to hear the names of its main cast members and not immediately think of their role on it. It's been alleged over the years, however, that the show's popularity is exactly what has prevented them from finding that same level of success in other projects. Pixar has been one of the most reliable animation studios for nearly 40 years. They've consistently churned out some of the best-animated films of all time, such as Toy Story, Monsters. Inc., Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, The Incredibles, and many others. For the most part, almost every movie has earned critical and audience praise, with a few exceptions.
Besides high quality, there's one more thing that people can always count on with Pixar – the voice of John Ratzenberger. He began his career with the animation giant in their very first film by voicing Hamm in Toy Story and its sequels. Following that, every Pixar movie over the next 25 years featured a voice performance from Ratzenberger. Some were major or supporting roles, and some were just quick cameos. But his voice was always there. Until it wasn't.
Ratzenberger's last Pixar voice role came in 2020's Onward, infamous for its release the week before the first worldwide Covid-19 shutdowns.

Throughout the 80s, there were few filmmakers on a streak quite like John Hughes. His name is attached to what feels like all the biggest comedies of the era, from The Breakfast Club to Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Uncle Buck, and Home Alone among many more. One particular day off that he crafted still sticks in everyone's minds, however, for its many iconic lines and the feeling of freedom it invokes. Now, Paramount Home Entertainment is giving Ferris Bueller's Day Off the 4K treatment with a new release that has all the content needed to fill a day off of work or school.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off star Matthew Broderick details the numerous on-set conflicts he had with late director John Hughes. Released in 1986, Ferris Bueller's Day Off follows Broderick's titular teen as he plays hooky from school and embarks on a day of fun with his girlfriend Sloane (Mia Sara) and best friend Cameron (Alan Ruck). The film is one of many iconic movies that Hughes wrote and/ or directed over the course of his career, which includes '80s classics like The Breakfast Club, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, and Uncle Buck.
During a recent conversation on The Hollywood Reporter's It Happened In Hollywood podcast, Broderick details how he and Hughes didn't always get along while making Ferris Bueller's Day Off. While it sounds like everything worked out in the end, the actor recalls that there were several contentious encounters on set. Check out Broderick's full comment below:

But his experiences as a performer helped show him the kind of casting director he didn’t want to be. “I didn’t want to go into a field where I secretly felt, ‘I could do this better,’” he says. “And from the moment I became involved with voiceover, watching these amazing actors who were so great at manipulating their voices, I knew I could never do what they do.”

Update: Variety is reporting that the Ryan Reynolds and Colin Hanks John Candy documentary will likely be picked up by Amazon’s Prime Video, with the comedy said to be in negotiations for the film. Colin Hanks will be directing the documentary, with Reynolds on board as a producer. Hanks, whose father Tom Hanks memorably co-starred with the late comic legend in Splash and Volunteers (which also starred Hanks’ future wife Rita Wilson), apparently has the full corporation of the Candy family. This includes his widow, Rose and their two children, Jen and Chris. The film will reportedly contain home videos and never seen footage from the archive, as well as interviews with Candy’s friends and family. No release date is set yet, although given that John Candy is a Canadian icon, maybe a fall TIFF debut is in the cards?
