Wonderful, subtle, well paced horror

So much of what passes for horror these days is just about over-the-top gore. "Caprice" shows there are still some film makers who know its more than blood-and-guts. This subtle, well-paced little films takes its time building the tension, dropping the right hints, and letting the characters develop. The tension builds logically and realistically until you realize the whole thing has become surreal and you're not really sure how it got there. The movie isn't perfect: there are a few awkward moments from the two male leads where the acting isn't quite up to the scene, but Renee Thrasher in the title role is nearly flawless. Every moment she's on the screen you feel drawn to her, even when you realize its at your own peril. Her performance alone is worth the price of admission - the fact that the rest of the film works so well is like a bonus. Track this little gem down and see it. You'll thank me for it!

Great characters and better twists...

Jack Bennett's Caprice is an interesting take on the home torture film. Clark and Kevin are two average guys making their lives on the typical American Dream. Careers, wives, and happy homes. The movie evolves as the boys meet Caprice. A charismatic woman who shows them how quickly life can change. Jack makes the characters interact and develop through the story in a way that does not seem forced. The plot progresses naturally until the twists and turns really unfold. Clark and Kevin have a few stumbling moments through the film, but Renee is a very talented actress that brings the role of Caprice to life and makes the film's writing shine.
