Director Lee Isaac Chung’s Twisters, a long-awaited follow-up to director Jan De Bont’s 1996 classic disaster film Twister, is set to reach theatres on July 19th – and as of right now, it looks like it could do some big business… but you never know what’s going to happen with the box office these days. Before Twisters reaches the big screen, The Asylum has already swooped in and released their latest mockbuster, The Twisters, on digital and in select theatres. You can watch a trailer for The Twisters in the embed above.
The film was directed by Michael Su, who has previously directed Death Count, Bridge of the Doomed, Night of the Tommyknockers, 2025 Armageddon, Transmorphers: Mech Beasts, Bloodthirst, and Snow White and the Seven Samurai – and that’s just what he has made over the last few years. He’s currently in post-production on Bikers vs. Werewolves, and...

Just yesterday, we shared the news that the “nature run amok” horror thriller The Flood is going to receive a theatrical, VOD, and digital release on July 14th, courtesy of Saban Films. With the release date so close, we knew a trailer would be available soon – we just didn’t expect it to be this soon! The trailer for The Flood is now online, and you can check it out in the embed above.
Directed by Brandon Slagle (Attack of the Unknown) from a screenplay by Chad Law (Daylight’s End) and Josh Ridgway (Howlers), this project could be described as “Crawl meets Assault on Precinct 13”. The new Megalodon Rising trailer shows us what happens when the military industrial complex takes on the apparently-not extinct megalodon. I'll give you three guesses and the first two don't count. I've got my bait, now I set the hook!
When history's greatest aquatic predator returns, the armada of modern warships sent to destroy it has no chance at all. Tom Sizemore along with O'Shay Neal and Wynter Eddins take on the mighty megalodon with all the military's has to offer. The film is directed by Brian Nowak and written by Andrea Ruth.
The Asylum, an independent film company and distributor known for producing low-budget, direct-to-video mockbusters, have been delighting their fans with the re-telling or embellishing of timely blockbusters since 1999. They have brought us these twists-on-the-classics Snakes on a Train, The Da Vinci Treasure, Pirates of Treasure Island, Hillside Cannibals, Allan Quatermain and the Temple of Skulls, The Day the Earth Stopped,...

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “The Good Doctor” episode, “22 Steps.”]
“The Good Doctor” is a way for viewers who have never met a person with autism to get to know more about the differences in neurology and behaviors that may accompany the disorder. For the show’s central character Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), a surgical resident with autism and savant syndrome, he hasn’t met anyone with autism either, at least not until Monday’s episode.
When a young man named Liam (Coby Bird) is wheeled in on a gurney, Shaun immediately understands why the boy is struggling with the nurses. Far from needing to be restrained, it turns out he has autism and doesn’t like to be touched. Shaun proves to be instrumental in understanding Liam’s needs and relaying them to the hospital staff. IndieWire spoke with series creator David Shore to get his take on the insightful episode.

In 2003, Freddy vs. Jason arrived in cinemas, a film that I’d credit for kicking off the versus-style motif of Hollywood crossovers. In the time since, we’ve received other mashups such as Alien vs. Predator, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and, perhaps the biggest movie to be produced within our lifetime, Mega Python vs. Gatoroid.
Like any of us, those seated in prestigious positions can also dream. As it so happens, Don Mancini, director of the upcoming Cult of Chucky and the man responsible for bringing the Child’s Play film franchise back to its roots, has a cool idea for a crossover. And when you really think about it, it kind of makes sense.
Granted, pitting Freddy against Jason was a no-brainer because they’re both titans in the horror genre, but Mancini would like to see something he calls “Child’s Play on Elm Street.” When...

Birthday shoutouts go to Kevin Alejandro (above), who is 38, Russell Crowe is 50, John Oates is 65, and Jackie Chan is 60.
Our thoughts are with the family and generations of fans of screen legend Mickey Rooney, who died today at the age of 93. He’ll always be the one true Fallout Boy to me.
In more sad news, model and ally Peaches Geldof has died at the age of 25.

I Was Broken, and Matt Bomer Put Me Back Together. Is there anything he can’t do?

Including films that achieve the correct button-mashing combo to earn fancy kudos and are positively lauded, there are only a select few from the whole bunch that have the significance of “definitive.”
These are films that transcend ownership of marquee space, or their critical importance with film niches, and take on a wide cultural significance. Such happens to a point in which these movies now help outline our exact understanding of an entire year of film itself. These are the films that are created from specific thematic trends from all of our culture, or in some historical cases, became trends themselves.
From the paranormal parody of “A Haunted House” to the controversial “Wolf of Wall Street,” here are 13 films that best define the movie year that was 2013.

February's Women in Horror Month is a great opportunity to unite female horror enthusiasts, journalists, actors, directors, screenwriters, producers, and the like. But that doesn’t mean that the efforts of the women who fight for their place in the industry shouldn’t also be recognized throughout the year. There are many talented female directors, screenwriters, producers, and actors working in the production of genre films on a daily basis, but they don’t always receive the same level of recognition as their male counterparts. We hope for a time when Women in Horror Month will no longer be necessary, but we have a long way to go before that becomes a reality. So, to show our appreciation for the hardworking women who toil away in the horror genre, we'd like to spotlight five of our favorite female-helmed horror films. Chained Jennifer Chambers Lynch (Boxing Helena) turned out a restrained...

Sharknado-mania swept social media Thursday night, but outside of the Twitterverse it looks like most people chose not to take the sharkbait.
Recently released Nielsen ratings show that only about 1.4 million people watched SyFy's shlock masterpiece, which "realistically" (cough, cough) features man-eating sharks attacking unsuspecting Los Angeles residents after getting blown to shore by an epic storm.
According to USA Today, the Nielsen figure is downright average for a movie premiere on this channel, which has found a niche trotting out awesomely bad horror flicks. (Case in point: the 2011 film Mega Python vs. Gatoroid starring '80s queens Tiffany and Deborah Gibson.

Everybody talked about it.
But not everybody watched it.
Syfy’s original movie Sharknado delivered 1.4 million viewers Thursday night. That’s lower than many previous Syfy breakout titles, like 2010′s Sharktopus (2.5 million viewers), 2011′s Mega Python Vs. Gatoroid (2.4 million) and last year’s Piranhaconda (1.8 million). It’s even a bit below the far less buzzy Chupacabra vs. the Alamo (1.5 million), which ran earlier this year. Syfy points out that the movie skewed younger than usual (a good thing) and its 18-49 performance was up 29 percent from the channel’s movie average this year.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, the water has become a tornado, and that tornado is filled with sharks. Following up fan favorites like "Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus," "Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus," and "Mega Python vs. Gatoroid," low budget film studio The Asylum is bringing you "Sharknado," which is exactly what you think and more than you could hope. Starring Tara Reid and Ian Ziering, the film tells the true story of a deadly tornado powerful enough to suck sharks out of the ocean and hurl them at the innocent civilians of Los Angeles, causing mass hysteria and renegade groups firing shotguns into the air. Wikipedia and my imagination tell me this all took place shortly after the Lakers last won an NBA title. Directed by Anthony C. Ferrante in his first made-for-tv movie, "Sharknado" debuts tonight at 9pm Edt on the SyFy channel.

Croczilla eyes some appealing appetizers.
The 2012 Chinese horror-action-comedy movie Croczilla is one China’s first-ever creature feature films.
A giant foot crocodile named Mao—who measures 36 feet in length and weighs some two tons–goes on the rampage in Beijing after being moved from a peaceful crocodile farm and onto the menu of a local gangster. As if that’s not bad enough, Mao encounters the beautiful model Wen Yan (Barbie Hsu, Future X Cops) and gobbles down her bag, which contains $1 million, not to mention her mobile phone! The beast continues to terrorize innocent people, even as the army hunts it down and the lovely lady tries to recover her lost cash!
Poor Wen Yan! No wonder the movie was called Million Dollar Crocodile when it was released in theaters in its native China in June, 2012.

While we’ve all come to expect truly terrible made-for-tv movies with hilariously intuitive titles from the SyFy cable network (ones with names like Aztec Rex, Dinoshark, Flu Bird Horror, Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, Jersey Shore Shark Attack, and Yeti: Curse of the Snow Demon, wonders all), the NBC Universal-owned channel is now interested in lowering their standards (almost unfathomably) even further. Forbes reports (via ComingSoon) that SyFy is now looking to push “into the movie business — and that it may even remake Waterworld, one of the most notorious Hollywood bombs of all time.” Let’s take this time to remind everyone that it is November 27th, not April 1st. This is not a joke. The outlet adds that the network “has been looking for a way into film for years, ever since NBC merged with Vivendi Universal Entertainment in 2004. That marriage provided Syfy — known as Sci Fi Channel until a 2009 brand makeover — with access to Universal Pictures...

The days are shorter, the mornings are crisper and Halloween is right around the corner. That can mean only one thing: It's time once again for SplatterFest, Houston's premier horror film fest.
Now in its third year, SplatterFest is the brainchild of filmmakers Kerry Beyer and Kelly Byrns. But this year, Byrns and Beyer have made their SplatterFest even bigger and better than ever. I know what you're thinking — after last year's ultra-groovy Bruce Campbell orgy-a-thon, how is that even possible?
Here's how: SplatterFest 2012 has expanded and created AmazingFest, destined to be one of the Southwest's top pop culture conventions, for a trip back to the days of shoulder pads, parachute pants and mullets...oh yes, my friends, SplatterFest is headed to the 1980s. And the guest of honor will be none other than that close, personal friend of Molly Ringwald and ultimate king of the geeks: the one, the only Farmer Ted.

Hollywood won't stop believin' in the Great White Way, and neither will we.
"Rock of Ages," the latest movie musical to shimmy from Broadway to the big screen, opens today with a cast of Hollywood heavyweights (Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alec Baldwin) and nubile newcomers (Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta) dusting off the ol' jukebox and getting down. The flick follows barback/aspiring musician Drew Boley (Boneta) as he falls for new-in-town cutie Sherrie Christian (Hough) and lands his first break opening for rock god Stacee Jaxx (Cruise) at the Sunset Strip's storied Bourbon Room.
All splashy song-and-dance numbers and schmaltzy romance, this rose may have a few thorns, but it hits moviegoers with its best shot, nonetheless. Here are five reasons to see "Rock of Ages":
It's a musical for everyone
Don't hide your boyfriend! Don't hide your husband! Director Adam Shankman guarantees men and women alike will leave the theater tapping their toes.

With the recent announcement of Zombies vs. Gladiators, Amazon Studios' upcoming Clive Barker project, it's official: All you need to make a movie these days is a script whose title is composed of two nouns separated by a "vs."
This approach to moviemaking might seem simplistic and/or lazy, but it has one major thing going for it — everything you need to know about the product film is in the title. And that's a godsend to a production company's marketing department.
Obviously, this strategy must work, because producers are returning repeatedly to the Well of Versus. To illustrate my point, the following is a partial list of "vs." films:
Monsters vs. Aliens
Mega Python vs. Gatoroid
Dinocroc vs. Supergator
Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys
Eagle vs. Shark
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Alien vs. Predator
Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem
Freddy vs. Jason
Strippers vs.

Not too long ago I was in communiqué with an ex-Asylum director and joked about pitching them my idea for Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark. Yesterday The Asylum announced the third installment in their Mega Shark franchise... Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark. I think The Asylum might be tapping my phone, hacking my emails, or jacking directly into my brain.
Or it could just be that Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark is such a natural progression for this franchise that I’m hardly the only one to come up with such an obvious premise? Think about it.
The Mega Shark is kind of to The Asylum what Godzilla is to Toho. Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus was their Godzilla, King of the Monsters. Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus could be any one of a myriad of Godzilla vs. sequels. Mega Piranha is their Rodan. 2012: Moby Dick is their Mothra. Mega Python vs. Gatoroid...

Um, yeah so Syfy is doing another weird movie. We love them, but wow, the weirdness! This time around it's Barry Williams from "The Brady Bunch" and Danny Bonaduce from "The Partridge Family" and numerous fist fights. They're starring in "Bigfoot." Of course they are.
The movie will premiere later this year. In the movie, when Bigfoot is discovered in South Dakota, two life-long rivals (Williams and Bonaduce) battle to capture the creature - one to exploit it and one to save it.
We're dying to know what your favorite Syfy movie is. They azap-grammy-awards-2012-nominees-winners-picsre wonderful in their strangeness. And putting these two child stars in the film? It's almost as good as Deborah Gibson and Tiffany in "Mega Python vs. Gatoroid."...

You never know what you're going to get from those wacky purveyors of schlock known as The Asylum. Wait, let me qualify that. You know you're going get a "bad" movie, but you never know if it's going to be a good "bad" movie (Mega Python vs. Gatoroid) or a bad "bad" movie (Almighty Thor). It could go either way, and I suppose that's part of the thrill.
I just returned from the post office with a brand spanking new copy of 2-Headed Shark Attack (which hits DVD shelves on January 31), the latest entry in The Asylum's beloved "Nature Run Amok" horror/sci-fi series. And as I drove home, I couldn't decide what to think. Sure, it has a shark, with two heads no less, and The Asylum usually does okay with sharks...

Ok Hollywood we get it, fairytales are the hot new thing. We know. What with Once Upon a Time and Grimm on TV, Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer and Two version of Snow White on the way. Actually scratch that. There’s actually Three version of Snow White on the way… The latest? Why that’s Grimm’s Snow White starring Eliza Bennett as Snow White and Jane March (The Lover, Color of Night) as the evil Queen. Only this Snow White is another Asylum mockbuster!
When the King is killed by ferocious reptile beasts, his Queen takes control of the kingdom. She tries to kill her beautiful stepdaughter, Snow, but she escapes into the enchanted forest…
Rachel Goldenberg, director of the 2010 mockbuster Sherlock Holmes, (you know, the one with Spring-Heeled Jack) is behind the camera, whilst Naomi Selfman, the writer of Mega Python vs. Gatoroid and Mega Shark vs.

Fairy tales are hot again in Hollywood. You’ve got “Once Upon a Time” and “Grimm” on TV. Bryan’s Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer and Pixar’s Brave continue the trend on big screens this summer. And we’re getting not one, but two – Two – Snow White movies. No wonder The Asylum is jumping on the trend with Grimm’s Snow White.
Set for DVD/VOD release on February 14th, Grimm’s Snow White stars Eliza Bennett as Snow White and Jane March (The Lover, Color of Night) as the evil Queen.
Synopsis:

A brave group of stars will endure inevitable outbursts of rage from their comrades, possible humiliation in front of millions of TV viewers, and close proximity to Donald Trump’s waking-nightmare hair on Season 5 of Celebrity Apprentice (aka Season 12 of The Apprentice). Let’s ponder the chances of the first nine would-be contestants whose names have leaked to the media – in order from least- to most-likely to win.
Cheryl Tiegs: To my knowledge, the swimsuit model of yore doesn’t seem like the type who’d rip a rival limb from limb just to earn a spot in the Trump Family’s inner circle.

Oh, if only The Asylum actually was producing a movie called Snow White and the 2-Headed Shark. I would watch that in a heartbeat. But they do have a new dark fantasy retelling of Snow White in the works, and we have new artwork for 2-Headed Shark Attack.
When I saw that The Asylum had updated its website to announce a supernatural Snow White in the works, my very first thought was as to what must have brought this on. Then I remembered that one of the big movies for next summer is Snow White and the Huntsman with Kristen Stewart as an extra pouty Snow White. The Asylum will be beating Universal to the punch by several months with a Valentine's Day DVD release of Grimm's Snow White.

Okay, let's get one thing clear. Mega Python vs. Gatoroid is a bad movie. The film contains glaring continuity errors, the acting gets pretty wooden at times, the script is just as lazy as you'd expect and the CGI is pretty bad (though not as bad as Lake Placid 3). In short, it's everything you'd expect from The Asylum, but that's not to say the film isn't a lot of fun. While it doesn't reach the inspired heights of unintentional lunacy in Mega Piranha, director Mary Lambert keeps things moving with very little drag time and refuses to take things too seriously.
The movie opens with Dr. Nikki Riley (Debbie Gibson), an environment activist, breaking into a building to steal a bunch of exotic pythons. With her are Gia and Ben, who are...

The God of Thunder had quite a busy weekend. Last Friday, he showed up in multiplexes around the country, courtesy of Marvel/Paramount's blockbuster Thor. Then on Saturday night, thanks to those lunatics running The Asylum, he materialized on television in a made-for-Syfy mockbuster called Almighty Thor.
If nothing else, this weekend proved there definitely is a Thor for every budget — Marvel's version cost about $150 million, and I'm willing to bet The Asylum made their film for an amount equal to the catering costs on Marvel's flick. Actually, what these two films really prove is that you get what you pay for.
Let's play contrast and compare. Marvel's film is filled with fine award-winning actors; is loaded with jaw-dropping special effects; and was directed by Kenneth Branagh, noted interpreter of Shakespeare. Almighty Thor...

Be still, our eleven-year-old heart. ’80s teen pop stars Tiffany and Debbie Gibson are going on tour together. Yes, in 2011! Tiff told Page Six, “We want to journey through the ’80s and all the artists who influenced us,” which means they’ll perform their own singles but also cover songs by artists like Stevie Nicks and Reba McIntyre. (Lord, we don’t ask for much, but if you could let them cover “Fancy” we’d be forever in your debt.)
All this time we thought these two singers had a huge rivalry as teens. Turns out they get along so well that they can easily transition from making a SyFy movie together (last year’s Mega Python Vs. Gatoroid, obvs) to a summer tour. If we’ve learned anything from these two it’s that peace and harmony can be achieved, just as long as everyone wears funky vests and jean jackets.

In a career that has spanned almost 35 years, filmmaker Mary Lambert has seen a lot and learned even more. She's worked with monsters of all shapes and sizes, from Mötley Crüe to Stephen King. But even she had never encountered something the likes of her latest film, Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, a wonderful little creature feature created for the Syfy cable network by infamous B-movie production house The Asylum.
When I spoke to Lambert recently, she said, "Every day on the set was like being pushed out of an airplane with a World War II parachute into hostile territory. At the end of every day, we were just glad to be alive, even though we knew as survivors that we were just going to be pushed out of the airplane again tomorrow. Nothing surprises me anymore."
