We are huge fans of director Nacho Vigalondo here on HeyUGuys. Timecrimes is an undisputed classic. Extraterrestrial and Open Windows were neat takes on the sci-fi and horror genres respectively. Now with Colossal the director is taking on the monster movie genre with a typically unique vision.
Anne Hathaway plays a woman lost in a drunken downward spiral following a relationship break up. She returns to her home town and falls back into old, very bad, habits. She wakes one morning hungover to see news reports of a huge monster attacking the city of Seoul, and finds something even more strange is happening. As you’ll see from the trailer below…
It’s a neat subversion of the city-destroying monster trope we’ve grown so accustomed to. It’s no coincidence that this film makes its way to the big screen just as Warner Bros. and Legendary...

10. The Leftovers
There have been a number of new and returning shows that have enthralled, horrified, excited, and caused numerous other emotional reactions among the viewing public. However no show, new or old, has left an impression as deep as that of HBO’s The Leftovers. While the series’ 10 episode first season ended its run in early September, its impact has lasted much longer, making it a strong entry in the list of the best shows of 2014.
The key strength of The Leftovers is its seeming disinterest in what caused the event at the center of the show. The series’ decision to focus on the effect rather than the cause not only sets it apart from nearly everything else on television, it also helps develop the show’s wide swath of characters. In addition, putting the disastrous event as the backdrop, rather than at the forefront, allows the audience to...

The father of Brittany Murphy is not happy about his late daughter being the subject of a Lifetime movie or about the actress chosen to play her.
The film, The Brittany Murphy Story, stars Amanda Fuller as the Clueless and 8 Mile star, who died at age 32 in 2009. The movie focuses on Brittany's personal struggles and circumstances surrounding her death and will show how her "Hollywood dream turned into a nightmare," according to the cable network. The casting of Fuller, who also plays one of Tim Allen's character's daughters on the sitcom Last Man Standing, was announced in August.
"My daughter #brittanymurphy would be horrified to know who they chose to play her and how cheap it all is," tweeted the actress's dad, Angelo Bertolotti, whose Twitter username is @BrittMurphyDad, on Monday.

Creature (2011)
Written by: Fred Andrews, Tracy Morse
Directed by: Fred Andrews
Cast: Dillon Casey (Oscar), Serinda Swan (Emily), Mehcad Brooks (Niles), Lauren Schneider (Karen), Aaron Hill (Randy), Amanda Fuller (Beth), Wayne Pere (Bud), David Jensen (Jimmy), Daniel Bernhardt (Grimley Boutine/Lockjaw), Sid Haig (Chopper)
The creature feature genre is often the most neglected of all the horror subgenres. It takes a back seat to more bankable premises such as slasher and paranormal horror. A new good creature feature is about as hard to find as the creature in the movie itself. Back in the day (way, way, back) in the 1950’s, the creature feature held the lion’s share of what any horror fan would want to see. In my humble opinion, it’s the biggest gamble for anybody that has plans to make a horror film now. Out of the gate, it has two strikes against it.

AMC has ordered a pilot for a Kevin Smith talk show. The weekly show would adapt Smith’s podcast Hollywood Babble-On for TV which Smith describes as “Entertainment Tonight but filthy.”
Think you’ve seen Kit Harington naked thanks to that Game of Thrones scene in that rock pool? In a GQ profile, Harrington admits that scene featured a butt double. “I had a broken ankle… so the only time you saw my ass, it wasn’t my ass.” Instead a crew member with curly black hair and a great backside was asked to get a haircut to match Harrington and fill in.

On September 10th in Union Square, James Cameron and Jon Landau had a special question and answer session while promoting the 3D release of Titanic. Here it is as follows:
Host: Why 3D?
James Cameron: Alright, how many eyes do you have on your face? 2 right? So we’re seeing the world in stereo. Everybody out there does, so it’s the way we perceive the world. I believe all entertainment should be in 3D, and we started to look at doing Titanic in 3D 7 years ago, and it was a part of an overall attempt to build a 3D market. It was something to tell exhibiters who knew I was getting Avatar done in a while, ‘Well, let’s do Titanic in 3D.’ And we didn’t even know at that point if it was even possible. I knew there was technology, so we did a test of...

I have never been shot in the leg. But, if I was, here are some of the things I would be unlikely to do immediately afterwards: sprint like Usain Bolt, fall 10ft into a hole and land on my feet, and go toe-to-toe with a man in a giant crocodile costume. That last bit is meant to be the scary monster of the film, of course, but it’s every bit as unconvincing as the actions of our shot protagonist. There’s something to be said for the old-school charm of a costume in a horror film vs. using CGI, but you have to use it wisely. The classics knew how to compensate for their budget short-comings; chiefly it involves keeping the damn monster out of sight until the very last moment, and the zip out of sight altogether. This lesson isn’t heeded here.

Director: Fred Andrews. Review: Adam Wing. Any film that goes by the name of Creature is already displaying an enormous lack of creativity, and after ten minutes in the company of Fred Andrews’ shocker your worst fears will be realised. It takes just 45 seconds for the filmmakers to present us with our first dose of nudity, and one minute later we are witness to our first kill. It’s the pre-credit death sequence that graces pretty much every teen horror movie made today, and the lack of originality doesn’t stop there. Before the three-minute mark arrives we are introduced to a group of beautiful (infuriating) teenagers setting themselves up for the slaughter, and before you ask the question, yes, one of them is black. Six minutes pass by before we meet the first of our weird locals, who mutters manically as the Scooby gang stops off for petrol. In...

“Local legend has it, that an inbred man by the name of Grimley once lost his family to a monstrous white alligator, driving him to insanity. Some believe that in madness he was transformed into the very creature that now lurks in the fetid depths of the Louisiana swamplands. Prowling beneath the shallows, it stalks its prey.”

Title: Creature Directed by: Fred Andrews Starring: Mehcad Brooks, Serinda Swan, Daniel Bernhardt, Lauren Schneider, Aaron Hill, Amanda Fuller, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Sid Haig Running time: 93/minutes, Rated R A group of friends traveling through the back country of Louisiana find an almost desolate tourist stop which boasts the legend of Grimley, a murderous Gator-man monster. Within the first two minutes, there’s full frontal nudity, so of course that reeled me in for a bit. Then it gets a little boring with the group of friends who are taking one last trip together before one of them gets shipped off to Afghanistan. They meet creepy (per usual) Sid Haig [ Read More ]...

Hey there, Fiends! Oh man! Tons to mention this time around! First of all, I just returned from the killer Motor City Nightmares convention, and what can I say? It was not only a kick-ass time, but it also made some nightmares come true.
First of all, I met one of my absolute favorite people in cinema, P.J. Soles, and I was a little taken aback by her presence, to be quite honest. It was truly surreal. While there I also set up show dates with class acts such as Bill Moseley, Ken Foree, Tony Todd, and Matt Farnsworth and Diane Foster - the creators of the brutal indie masterpiece called The Orphan Killer! Having finally watched the film all the way through, all I can say is holy shit! If you have Not seen the Orphan Killer, please do yourselves a huge favor - seek it out!
Now, on to the show!

Chicago – After a particularly long work day, I often find it difficult to coax my mind to sleep. That’s when I turn to Video On Demand for some free and immediate assistance. Most moviegoers would probably search for a familiar comedy or predictable romance to help their eyelids grow heavy in the wee hours of the morning. Yet my insomnia-remedy of choice will always remain FEARnet.

I’m surprised director Fred Andrews’ low-budget horror flick “Creature” managed to get theatrical distribution. Wide distribution, at that. This isn’t the sort of motion picture you’d ever want to pay premium price to see on the big screen. No, it’s something you’d watch late at night on Netflix streaming during a particularly sinister bought of insomnia. In fact, I feel quite sorry for the unfortunate individuals who forked portions of their entertainment budget to see this in the cinema, as it should have been sent direct to SyFy, followed by an unrated DVD and/or Blu-ray release so everyone can have some boobies. You know it’s true. That having been said, “Creature” isn’t a terrible monster movie when compared to its brethren. Sure, it’s unoriginal, poorly paced, and weak on gore, but it’s still a serviceable creature feature that manages to...

Fred M. Andrews is a production designer turned writer/director. His latest film, Creature, is the story of a group of teens who head to back woods Louisiana for a week of fun and debauchery. They get more than they bargained for when they encounter a creature that’s part man, part alligator. We talk with Andrews about Creature, working with Sid Haig, making the transition from production designer to director and more.

It really takes a special kind of something to screw up a simple formula like that found in Creature. Yet it happened and on a infamously historic level. Wanna see what all the hubbub is about? Now you can. If you dare.
Don't wanna wait until its DVD release on March 20th courtesy of Arc Entertainment? Well then you're in luck! Creature, a film which is completely devoid of any redeeming qualities whatsoever and is widely consider as one of the most ill-conceived and costly mistakes in film distribution history, is now available on demand. Consult your local cable affiliate.
Synopsis:
An ex-Navy seal, Niles (Mehcad Brooks, "True Blood"), his girlfriend, Emily (Serinda Swan, Tron), and their friends head out on a road trip to New Orleans. When the group decides to stop at a roadside convenience store owned by Chopper (Sid Haig, The Devil's Rejects), they are introduced to the legend of Lockjaw,...

Creature. You remember that movie, right? The 2011 fall release that received a fairly wide theatrical released and bombed on all levels... Yeah, now it's all coming back to you. Sorry for the reminder.
Arc Entertainment is bringing this monster movie to DVD on March 20 and, inside, you'll find hi-res cover art which strikingly calls to mind the art for Feast. Oh, Creature, you really don't have anything to offer us. Not even out on DVD yet and you're already pissing us off.
Directed by Fred M. Andrews, the film concerns an ex-Navy seal, his girlfriend and their friends head out on a road trip to New Orleans. There, they encounter a local legend, Lockjaw, a man-in-suit monster. Yikes!

Creature will be making its way to DVD this March and we have the official cover art. The film made headlines last year for having one of the worst theatrical openings of all time, earning $331,000 on its first weekend across 1,507 theaters across the Us.
If you didn’t get a chance to see it in theaters, you can watch it for yourself on DVD on March 20th. There is no word on a Blu-ray release at this time, but we’ll post an update if we hear anything. Creature was directed by Fred Andrews and stars Mehcad Brooks, Serinda Swan, Aaron Hill, and Sid Haig.

Life has a funny way of turning things around. For the last few days I've been getting chastised for thinking that The Devil Inside was a decent little flick. Still, it's been kind of taxing, but then ... then I see a DVD cover that just brings a smile back to my face.

Estimated for release on home video March 20 is the worst movie of the year, Creature, which will hit stores featuring cover art completing ripping off Feast. I'd be embarrassed as hell to have a quote on this cover box... The film that tanked in its theatrical run last September "revolves around a group of family and friends who, en route to New Orleans, are sidetracked in the Louisiana bayou and encounter a monster named Lockjaw who is revered by the locals as a god. Brooks will play a Navy Seal back from the Middle East; Serinda Swan will play his fiancee, who is abducted to be the creatures bride. Sid Haig will play a man named Chopper. Daniel Bernhardt will play the creature."...

2011 brought a lot of great horror films. From Stake Land to A Lonely Place to Die, there were a lot of films to watch and enjoy. 2011 also served up a lot of misery as well. Here at 28Dla, this reviewer has learned to dodge a few bullets in the movie world. Admittedly, this reviewer skipped Fred Andrews' Creature in theatres and the latest forced production of the Hellraiser series, titled Hellraiser: Revelations was also missed thanks to some early reviews. However a few films slipped under the radar or were shipped to the 28Dla HQ with little warning or previous info'. These are some of those films.
Some of the elements that made a terrible film this year were the inability to create tension or to create interesting characters. Without tension or thrills what is a horror film? As well, not providing any backstory for a character is a...

The plan to release Creature (review here) on 1,500 movie screens will go down as one of the most ill-conceived and costly mistakes in film distribution history. Grossing a miserable $331,000 on its opening weekend and earning the dubious distinction of being the worst 1,500-screen or more movie release in history, the producers had better hope the March DVD release is met with greater fanfare. Or should I say any fanfare?

Nobody knows anything. That's what William Goldman decided after spending a lifetime in the movie business. Nobody knows anything, and that's as true now as it's ever been. The fate of poor, unloved Creature proves his point perfectly.
Given a second chance, the makers of Creature probably wouldn't have opened on what's traditionally one of the quietest weekends of the year. Nor would they have picked the 10th anniversary of 9/11. And they almost definitely wouldn't have opened the film on 1,500 screens after mounting a barely existent marketing campaign. These are terrible conditions for any film to be released into, let alone a micro-budget horror flick about some sex-crazed teenagers running around a swamp being eaten by...

Dream House is fucking terrible.
That may be one of the more damning lines I've ever used to open a review. But it's true, and I don't really see any reason to hold back. This is a hopelessly lost film that's just as brain damaged as its main protagonist. It's completely nonsensical garbage that was mangled by horrible decisions by Morgan Creek Productions, a company so vapidly senile that they thought it a good idea to seize the film from director Jim Sheridan, hacked it to stupidity, and release a product so groan inducing, so pitifully awful, that Jim Sheridan, as well as main talent Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz, all jumped ship and refused to do press for the film.

There have been movies about swamp monsters before, but few have received the national headlines that Creature is getting. Upon its opening a couple of weeks ago, the film experienced the worst box-office opening ever (for a movie opening on more than 1500 screens). Of course horror fans aren't the kinds of folks to care about box-office. So when I spoke with Creature's writer Tracy Morse last week, I asked him if all this attention will only serve to intrigue fright fans. Find out what he told me in the interview after the jump. How did Creature come to be? I wrote the first draft around 2001, and it was called Lockjaw. Basically, I've written a ton of scripts. Usually I try to put them in the one to two...

After one of the poorest box office showing ever, Creature director Fred Andrews threw down a verbal attack on anyone who disliked his film, calling them “bottom feeders.” I have not seen the flick, so I can’t comment on its quality. But we gave it a killer review, and Fred does mention us in his exclusive interview with Fangoria. “Killer Films”…close enough.
“Oh no, the negative reviews have been in no way disappointing; in fact, I am impressed with how many different and creative ways people have been able to express their distaste for the film [laughs]. But seriously, of course I anticipated a lot of negative reviews just given the very nature of the film. It’s not a film for critics; I mean, come on, it’s called Creature, for God’s sake! Here I was planning to do a story posting this past Friday night’s “Nightline” segment about Creature’s box office apocalypse when I find out the film’s director did an interview lashing out at every online critic that didn’t like his movie in a way not seen since Uwe Boll’s famous online tirade following the release of House of the Dead.
Creature opened last weekend on 1,507 screens and barely made more than $300,000. That earned it the distinction of being the worst opening ever for a movie released on 1,500 or more screens.
In an interview with Fangoria (they gave it a positive review, Fyi), Creature director Fred Andrews doesn’t have much to say about the disastrous opening weekend, but he certainly has some choice words for people like myself that didn’t like the movie (read my Creature review here). Just last week Fred Andrews saw his indie Creature self-distributed by Sid and Jon Sheinberg's Bubble Factory. Sid was the president of Universal Studios during the release of classics such as Jaws, Et and Jurassic Park, so it's a shock knowing his new company had faith in this incomplete creature feature. The film grossed only $331,000 opening up in 1,507 U.S. theaters this weekend, making it the worst premiere ever for a film opening in 1,500 locations or more, according to BoxOfficeMojo and Yahoo. The film flopped. It currently has a 13% on Rotten Tomatoes and was panned by most critics. And while we respect the opinion of those who enjoyed the flick, director Fred Andrews has none for those who hated it. In fact, he sort of implies that the film was made for morons. How so? Read on to see.

Creature is arguably the biggest box office bomb of the year. Thus, we had to see it, to see if it was really that bad. Here's Ron's review...
Last Friday, a movie was released to over 1500 theaters in the United States. There was no real marketing campaign, aside from a few ads placed in the wee hours on the SyFy Channel. There was no all-consuming star. There was no massive budget. Unsurprisingly, the movie, Creature, had one of the weakest debuts of all time, to the tune of $327,000 (or $217 per screen). That's the second-worst per theater average of all time, second to only the movie Proud Americans, which I have never heard of.
Given this knowledge, I had to go see it.

London, Sept 14: Horror movie 'Creature' has set a new box office record for the worst takings ever, with a revenue of just 331,000 dollars - the lowest grossing opening weekend on record for a single movie opening on more than 1,500 screens across the Us.
According to opening weekend takings, the indie horror film that tells the story of a swamp creature on the loose in the backwoods of Louisiana, attracted merely 35,000 people - meaning that each screening had an average of just six people, the Daily Mail reported.
The film, which has been directed by Fred Andrews, a veteran production.
