Universal Pictures has issued an apology (via Entertainment Weekly) for dubbing Laverne Cox’s dialogue in the Italian release of “Promising Young Woman” with a male actor. The Guardian first reported on the controversy May 12, noting the actor Roberto Pedicini was featured as the voice of Cox’s character. Trans actor Vittoria Schisano told the publication that using a male actor to dub Cox was “insulting,” adding, “I’d feel bullied if I were [Cox].”
“We are deeply grateful to Laverne and the transgender community for opening our eyes to a bias that neither we nor many in our industry had recognized,” Universal said in a statement. “While there was no malicious intent behind this mistake, we are working diligently to fix it. We have begun re-dubbing Ms. Cox’s voice with female actors in our international territories and are pushing back release dates to ensure the correct version is available.

Court is back in session at NBC. The network has formally given a pilot order to a spinoff of “Night Court” led by original series star John Larroquette and “The Big Bang Theory’s” Melissa Rauch.
The pilot, produced by Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, was penned by “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” production alum Dan Rubin, who will serve as both executive producer and writer on the reboot.
The original series that aired on NBC from 1984-1992 starred Harry Anderson as an offbeat judge who worked the late shift at a Manhattan court house. Rauch will play the jurist daughter of Anderson’s Judge Harry Stone. She presides over the same court and tries to bring order to its crew of oddballs and cynics, most notably former night court prosecutor Dan Fielding (Larroquette).
Executive producing alongside Rubin are Rauch and her spouse Winston Rauch for After January Productions. Larroquette is also executive producing.

Ayo Edebiri still remembers the first joke she ever told. She was in eighth grade and had just joined the improv team at her school in Boston. She was an anxious, nerdy teen, fond of writing fan fiction about Jacob Black from Twilight eating hot dogs. Improv was not necessarily an obvious fit. Then she made a crack about why Christians’ favorite cheese was Swiss: “Because it’s holy,” she says, rolling her eyes. “For some reason, people thought that was really funny.” (For the record, this reporter laughed.)

Netflix has cast Jenny Slate’s replacement as Missy on its animated series Big Mouth, Deadline has confirmed.
The series’ co-creator, executive producer and star Nick Kroll said in June that the show would recast the voice role of Missy, a biracial character on the Netflix animated series, with a black actress. The role had been voiced by Slate for the show’s first three seasons.
“We made a mistake, took our privilege for granted, and we are working hard to do better moving forward,” Kroll wrote in a Twitter post at the time with fellow series creators Andrew Goldberg, Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett. “We are proud of the representation that Missy has offered cerebral, sensitive women of color, and we plan to continue that representation and further grow Missy’s character as we recast a new Black actor to play her.”

Two months after Jenny Slate announced she would no longer voice the character of Missy on “Big Mouth,” the Netflix animated puberty comedy has found her replacement: writer, producer, comedian and actor Ayo Edebiri.
“I was definitely a very uncomfortable child, so I think the show speaks to that and a lot of those feelings, which still resonate with me as an adult,” Edebiri tells Variety. “I’m back home in my childhood bedroom right now and on my bookshelf in between ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ is Bill Clinton’s autobiography and Nelson Mandela’s autobiography and a translation of ‘The Iliad’ in Latin. I was a true dork. So I don’t think I have to go too far to connect with Missy.”

It’s been a subdued broadcast pilot season, one overshadowed by the slew of high-profile launches of new streaming services, shrouded in uncertainty over a potential writers strike and hit by fears related to the growing coronavirus outbreak. Amid the somewhat bleak overall picture, punctuated by another year-to-year decline in broadcast pilot volume, there were bright spots. The jury’s still out on whether being a Best Picture nominee gives you an advantage in Best Original Song, but surely being a Best Animated Feature nominee is a huge plus, right? Technically yes, but it’s definitely not a sure thing to win both. “Coco” sits atop our latest predictions in both Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “Remember Me,” and if the Disney/Pixar film indeed goes two-for-two, it would only be the third time that the two categories went to the same film.
That might sound startling because so many catchy movie anthems have hailed from animated films, specifically Disney films. But the Best Animated Feature category was only added in 2001, right after Disney ruled Best Original Song in the ‘90s — five of the decade’s song winners were from animated Disney films; a sixth, “When You Believe,” was from DreamWorks’ “The Prince of Egypt...

Jennie Garth always amazes us: she balances her career with three growing girls, and happens to be married to a Twilight star, too! And she’s never been afraid to speak up about what she believes in, whether it be body image, making marriage work or taking extra-special care of your kids. Throughout October, she’s serving as the face of Walk to School Month, encouraging families to walk their kids to class each morning.
We recently had the chance to chat with the actress about daughters Luca Bella, 13, Lola Ray, 7½, and Fiona Eve, 4, plus her involvement with the Green Works Walk to School Challenge.

Carey Mulligan -- the radiant It girl of Hollywood after her Oscar nominated turn in An Education and her upcoming roles in two of this possible year's Oscar contenders, Wall Street 2 and Never Let Me Go -- is all but on board Screen Gems' Cradle Will Fall, so we're told by The Hollywood Cog.
The film, which is a priority for the studio, is being fast-tracked and is currently in the casting stage, though Mulligan's participation is contingent upon a script polish of a Jack Olsen script (formerly titled Within).
The film itself, which is about a baby's surrogate who becomes obsessed with wanting the baby and the husband for herself -- smacks of The Hand that Rocked the Cradle, but one would imagine there's more to it if Mulligan is interested. There's no director attached as of yet, but Screen Gems is clearly searching for someone...

Peter Facinelli hits up 'Regis & Kelly' and 'The Today Show' to promote 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse'
Yesterday, Peter Facinelli took a very long flight back to t... hit up Live With Regis And Kelly and promote The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.
This morning, he appeared on The Today Show to promote the film as well.
On Regis And Kelly, Facinelli talked about how he got the opportunity to snorkel with dolphins on his family vacation in Hawaii (note that Facinelli did make an Eclipse screening appearance while in the state).
The three joked about the possibility that Regis Philbin, who's been taking acting lessons apparently, could be a contender for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn or perhaps Nurse Jackie.
When asked whether he had a preference between the Twilight series and Nurse Jackie, Facinelli likened the question to as... est project Loosies, which begins in two days in New York City, New York. Loosies is one of two of Facinelli's screenplays being made in 2010 - the other being Mulligan,...

Acting is not the only gig in Peter Facinelli's Hollywood portfolio. He's also a screenwriter, and it seems that a lot of his written works are now picking up speed.
For instance, The Delivery is one screenplay that Facinelli wrote and which is still in the pre-production stages.
Also, his wife Jennie Garth just wrapped filming for Mulligan, a project Facinelli wrote, on July 4th after having begun filming on June 10th (and tweeting this picture, among others, from the set).
The latest, though, is Loosies, a project that Peter Facinelli once described as being "about a pick-pocket in New York, who lives this carefree lifestyle, kind of like the Steve McQueen type, and he e ... Michael Corrente (also directing Paz) will direct, and Peter Facinelli will star as that "pick-pocket" Bobby. Other castmates added to the roster include Vincent Gallo, Michael Madsen, and Jaimie Alexander.
