Music icon and actress Debbie Harry (Hairspray) will co-star in Osgood Perkins’ I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives In The House.

Already announced cast members include Ruth Wilson (Saving Mr Banks), Bob Balaban (Moonrise Kingdom) and 2015 Screen Star of Tomorrow Lucy Boynton (Sing Street).

The film follows a young nurse (Wilson) who has to care for a reclusive horror author (Harry) who decides to live out the final chapter of her life in a 19th century farmhouse that holds its own spooky secrets.

Rob Paris’ Paris Film, Inc. is producing and co-financing the project with Robert Menzies’s Zed Filmworks, and Alphonse Ghossein’s Go Insane Films.

Rob Paris’ La-based Paris Film, Robert Menzies’ Ottawa-based Zed Filmworks and Canadian real estate developer Alphonse Ghossein’s Go Insane Films will co-finance and produce the drama.

The UK’s Altitude Film Sales is in talks with international buyers in Toronto on Numbskull and Paradigm handles North American rights.

Zak Hilditch will direct from his screenplay about a former wild man who goes in search of his missing estranged daughter. Hilditch’s These Final Hours debuted in Cannes Directors’ fortnight in 2014.

William Horberg brought Numbskull to the group and is producing. Ghossein will serve as executive producer.

The project is the second to emerge from the financing and production partnership between the three companies after Trinity. Production will be based in Ottowa.

Paris (pictured) and Menzies collaborated on Toronto selection February, which screens again in Toronto on Monday and on Tuesday.

One of the many films to premiere at this year's Toronto International Film Festival is writer/director Richard Ayoade’s The Double. Based on the novella by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, the film stars Jesse Eisenberg as a government clerk whose life is destroyed after what he believes to be an exact copy of himself begins working in his office and attempts to ruin his life. Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Kruger, and Emile Hirsch have joined a really interesting 1940s drama, called Midnight Sun, that revolves around the atomic nomb.

The story is set in 1943, and it "follows two young post graduates recruited by the Us Government to work on a top-secret project in New Mexico. Along with one of the students’ new wife, they drop their jazz-filled lives in New York and move to a secret community of scientists in the desert."

I'm really curious to see how this movie turns out. I've always been fascinated with the the development of the atomic bomb, so this sounds like a great project to me. The movie was written by actor-director Chris Eigeman, who will also direct the film. They've also brought in Richard Rhodes, winner of the Pulitzer prize for the book The Making of the Atomic Bomb, to be an advisor on the project.

As the Los Angeles Film Festival continues to unspool in downtown Los Angeles, Midnight Sun’s writer/director Chris Eigeman and producer Eric Morris have been awarded Film Independent's Sloan Award. This $15,000 production grant is given to films that feature new scripts about science and technology. Midnight Sun is set in 1943 and focuses on a group of young scientists in a New Mexico desert as they create the first atomic bomb . Eigeman, best known for his quick-witted and cynical roles in Whit Stillman films, will serve as the writer and director in this feature. He previously wrote and directed 2007’s Turn the River, about a female pool shark who kidnaps her son. Film Independent also announced the 20 filmmakers and 9 film projects selected for its 9th annual Fast Track program, sponsored by Kodak.
