Jaden Smith got many pats on his back for his role as the Karate Kid. He started the project when he was only eleven years old, he ended up being a part of a classic. While many stars have achieved a similar feat through happenstance, the young actor worked for what he achieved.
Smith worked hard for his role in the 2010 film, learning everything he possibly could at such a young age. Although audiences celebrated his efforts when the film first came out, he seems to have some serious competition now—not from Cobra Kai, but from IShowSpeed.

Well, well, well… how the turntables. It seems that Hollywood’s 2010 film The Karate Kid has really changed things around. Starring a cast of Will Smith’s son, Jaden Smith, and Jackie Chan, the film was quite iconic in its own way.
The nostalgic film, however, had a finale when Xiao Dre makes the snake move on the bully kid Cheng and wins the championship. The end was quite emotional when Cheng bowed down to Jackie Chan in the end.

As CinemaCon got underway this week in Las Vegas, Cinema United president and CEO Michael O’Leary called on exhibitors and distributors to “come together” to transform the industry. “The world is different today than it was yesterday, and we must not just adapt, but evolve if we want to realize our future potential.”
Some of that, he said in his remarks, includes investment by exhibitors. “We must continue to invest in all aspects of the moviegoing experience, from projection, sound and lighting to concessions, food and beverage, lobby and parking areas. All the pieces matter,” he said.
Underscoring that part of his message, the CinemaCon exhibition space was buzzing this week with new projection and sound developments, including moves in the direction of high dynamic range (Hdr) imagery, which brings a greater range of colors from the brightest whites to the deepest blacks.

The Karate Kid franchise has always been about underdogs, mentors, and the beautiful bond that’s forged between a student and sensei. Now, after decades of watching Daniel Larusso’s journey and the recent redemption arc of Johnny Lawrence, I feel like the latest trailer of Karate Kid: Legends poses one burning question: Where is William Zabka?
So far, all the official trailers and teasers that I’ve seen of the movie are packed with footage of high-flying action, preserving the legacy of its predecessors. But the recent trailer proves that Johnny Lawrence’s wisdom is what the story might truly need, and here’s why!

A new trailer for Karate Kid: Legends has been released. The upcoming sequel sees the franchise unite Jackie Chan's Mr. Han with original franchise protagonist Daniel Larusso, played by a returning Ralph Macchio.
Coming over three months after the first Karate Kid: Legends trailer, the new trailer spends the bulk of its 2-minute and 30-second runtime introducing audiences to the franchise's new Karate Kid, Li Fong, played by American Born Chinese star Ben Wang. Similar to both the original 1984 film and the 2010 remake (which is now canon to the Miyagiverse), Legends follows its protagonist as his life gets uprooted following a move to a new city. As Li struggles to settle into his new life in New York, he enters a karate competition despite only being skilled at kung fu. This leads Chan's Mr. Han, who trained Li in kung fu, to seek out Macchio's Daniel to help him train the next Karate Kid.

"Cobra Kai" recently ended after six successful seasons, but fans of the "Karate Kid" franchise who want more adventures set in this world won't have long to wait to see Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) in action again. The upcoming "Karate Kids: Legends" movie will see the Miyagi-Do boss team up with Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), the sensei in the 2010 "Karate Kid" reboot, to train another young outcast, Li Fong (Ben Wang), for glory in the martial arts field. The wisdom-laden teachers claim to be two branches of the same tree, but let's hope they see eye-to-eye better than Larusso and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) did throughout "Cobra Kai."
The first "Karate Kid: Legends" trailer touches on the connections between the franchise's various movies and TV shows, and it will be interesting to see how the finished product brings all of these disparate elements together. However, the teaser kept the answers...

Ralph Macchio and Ben Wang, the stars of “Karate Kid: Legends,” brought the art of “wax on, wax off” to Las Vegas. Sony rolled a new trailer of the sequel at CinemaCon, the movie theater trade show that’s currently unfolding at Caesars Palace.
Before Macchio introduced a few scenes with his next-gen costar Wang, the 63-year-old actor said he was “honored to return to theaters again playing Daniel Larusso.”
A vibrant drum processional with lantern-bearers and dancers performing fluid kung-fu moves preceded the clips — which were heavy on the film’s legendary third lead, Jackie Chan. Gray hair didn’t slow down the 70-year-old Chan, who proved he still has moves in one impressive kitchen fight sequence with Wang. Sailing across a marble island and teaching his 25-year-old scene partner a thing or two, the athleisure-clad Chan eventually reveals he is in pursuit of Macchio’s Daniel Larusso to...

The stars of Sony’s Karate Kid: Legends brought the martial arts franchise’s latest film to CinemaCon.
The project’s elaborate presentation began with a group of onstage dancers, percussionists and individuals holding lanterns. After that, hitting the stage at the Las Vegas event on Monday was first Karate Kid star Ralph Macchio, who played the titular hero Daniel Larusso in Columbia’s 1984 original feature and the Netflix revival series Cobra Kai. Joining him was franchise addition Ben Wang, who plays Li Fong, a martial arts student who counts Daniel and Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han as his mentors.
Before introducing new footage, Wang claimed that Macchio had gotten him to wax his car and help him with other menial tasks. “Ralph, I’ve been doing your chores all week,” a flustered Wang quipped. “I thought you were teaching me some kind of Miyagi thing.” According to Macchio, it...

It’s not all superheroes, all the time. Studios are still willing to take a few bets on directors with compelling visions, hoping that they can offer up something distinctive and compelling at a time when multiplexes are filled with more of the same.
So give Sony Pictures credit for backing not one, but two of these riskier projects — Darren Aronofsky’s “Caught Stealing” and Kogonada’s “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey.” The former is a crime thriller about a former baseball player (Austin Butler) who gets caught up in New York City’s underworld in the 1990s, while the latter is a romantic fantasy that follows two middle aged people who step through a magical portal into their past lives. The studio gave theater owners a first look at both projects during its CinemaCon presentation on Monday night.

The first day of CinemaCon 2025 is drawing to a close. Still, before attendees gather for the first of many after-hours parties and make questionable life choices, Sony is ready to wow crowds with an exciting look at what they’ve got cooking! The studio is already teasing a new Karate Kid: Legends trailer for tomorrow, but who could have guessed that stars from the film would crane-kick audience members in the face with a unique look at the upcoming movie? It was me. I guessed. But I digress.
Sony isn’t stopping at Karate Kid: Legends; the studio also brought new looks and updates for several upcoming projects, including Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing, the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence sequel, Bad Boys 5, and an early look at Sony Animation’s Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Every major motion picture studio, including streamer and theatrical embracer Amazon MGM Studios, will be accounted for at this week’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas, with all making onstage presentations inside the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
However, it comes at a time when the domestic box office really stinks — and that’s an understatement.
At a current year-to-date gross of $1.44 billion stateside per Comscore, we’re 11% behind last year for the period of January 1-March 31. We’re also roughly $1.4 billion behind the same point in Q1 2018, which had cleared $2.8 billion by now.
The box office will not hit $10 billion this year, a significant disappointment after last year’s industry mantra “Survive till ’25.”
Despite boom times last year with movies like Deadpool & Wolverine, Moana 2 and Wicked, and movies like Barbie in 2023, it’s clear that the pre-pandemic audience hasn’t returned. The question is, will they ever? In a 2024 Nrg industry study,...

Every month, Netflix has to purge some of its catalog and make room for new arrivals. Still, the first week of April 2025 is rough. If you wanted to catch many of the films below, you have two days left.
There is no way to binge-watch everything that is leaving. That is true even if you line up several TVs and your computer(s) next to each other and play different things at once. Don't do that because that would be weird (or would it?).
Several franchises are leaving on day one of the month. The excellent Rush Hour films and early Karate Kid movies are gone, as are several animated movies that are worth watching. Here is everything that is leaving in the first week of the month, though.

Ralph Macchio is not done with Daniel Larusso yet as he returns in this year’s Karate Kid: Legends alongside Jackie Chan. The actor finally had his arc completed in Netflix’s Cobra Kai along with William Zabka’s Johnny Lawrence. The show reunited many of the iconic characters from the ‘80s The Karate Kid franchise and gave them an arc.
While the reboot of The Karate Kid may have worked out, Macchio’s wishlist for another of his classic’s reboot may not be as easy as Cobra Kai. The actor mentioned that he was having conversations with writers for a reboot of My Cousin Vinny, which starred Joe Pesci and Marissa Tomei, who also won the Oscar for the role.

Acting is one of the most rewarding professions, with the potential to earn millions of dollars with a single project and secure their future when done right. Thus, beyond the allure of fame and accolades, these substantial financial rewards are a key motivation for many aspiring actors. At the same time, these financial gains are also a topic that captivates fans and industry enthusiasts alike.
Lately, many have been wondering the same about Ralph Macchio and William Zabka. Ever since Cobra Kai premiered on YouTube Red way back in 2018, the Karate Kid revival has been a massive success and found an even broader audience on Netflix. The show has not only rekindled the nostalgia for the original 1984 film and its subsequent sequels but also introduced a new generation of fans to the iconic and legendary rivalry between two Karate champs, Macchio’s Daniel Larusso and Zabka’s Johnny Lawrence.

If Ralph Macchio has his way, Vinny Gambini may find himself in a courtroom once again. While speaking with People at PaleyFest, Macchio teased that he’s spoken with writers about a possible sequel to My Cousin Vinny, the comedy in which he starred alongside Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei.
“Yeah, I’ve had conversations with other writers about that,” Macchio said. “Yeah, that one’s a beloved piece. It’s about finding the smart angle in.“
Although Pesci doesn’t exactly do a lot of acting these days, Macchio knows that the great actor would need to be involved, at least in some way. “He could FaceTime it in here,” Macchio suggested. I’m not sure if that would fly.

Netflix’s martial arts comedy-drama series Cobra Kai reinvigorated nostalgia for the Karate Kid franchise and garnered a whole new audience. The show’s committed ensemble cast, effective comedy and heartfelt drama speak to viewers of all ages. While the series has set a high bar for martial arts storytelling, the world of cinema, including these classic movies, offers up some of the genre’s all-time greats.
By emphasizing action, interesting characters and top-notch filmmaking, many of these martial arts films capture a similarly enjoyable atmosphere as Cobra Kai. They offer a nuanced narrative that resonates with audiences through intense drama or entertains viewers with clever comedy.
Bloodsport Helped Launch an Action Star’s Career
Striking a balance between cheesiness and unabashed charm, the 1988 martial arts film Bloodsport effectively crafts its fight sequences. It draws viewers into a storyline centered on an illegal martial arts tournament featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme as the lead.

March has been fun for Netflix and will end with some fine additions. But be prepared. April is going to see a lot of changes. In other words, get ready to watch a lot of stuff quickly.
41 movies alone will be leaving Netflix at the beginning of next month. If you love such franchises as Rush Hour, you might want to binge-watch the first three films over the next week. Those will be leaving your favorite streamer on the first day of April.
The first three Karate Kid movies will be moving on as well. This is bad timing, as there will be a "new" Karate Kid flick coming to theaters in May. That one will star Ralph Macchio (of course) and Jackie Chan and is titled Karate Kids: Legends. The best scenario would be to see the previous films on Netflix before there is a theatrical release of a new addition to the series.

Jaden Smith has had quite the journey since his breakout role in The Karate Kid. He went from being an adorable, wide-eyed, kung fu-learning pre-teen to a philosophical poet who tweets things like, “How can mirrors be real if our eyes aren’t real?” The kid who once threw punches at bullies now throws profound thoughts into the X (formerly Twitter) void, leaving us all questioning reality.

If you're a Karate Kid fan, then you'll likely be very disappointed in April if you're also a Netflix subscriber. The streamer is removing The Karate Kid (1984), The Karate Kid Part II (1986), and The Karate Kid Part III (1989) from its library starting April 1. Fans of the sports drama franchise only have about a week to explore the origins of Daniel Larusso and Miyagi's story.
However, even though Netflix is planning to remove all three Karate Kid movies from its library, there's another streaming service that will add the movies starting April 1. Hulu, a.k.a. Disney for adults, will add the first three Karate Kid movies for their subscribers to see. The only inconvenience in this scenario is that users won't be able to stream the best Karate Kid movies and its spin-off on one service, as Cobra Kai remains exclusively on Netflix because it's an original production.

For six seasons, "Cobra Kai" brought '80s nostalgia and absurd karate action to YouTube and then to Netflix, only to come to a climactic conclusion earlier this year with the end of "Cobra Kai" season 6. Netflix built up to the proper finale with plenty of fanfare, giving each character a proper send-off (some more explosive than others), and wrapping things up with a series of one-on-one world championship duels for the key characters.
It's rare in the streaming era that shows get to go out so decisively on their own terms, and yet, the show's popularity means that many fans are still hoping there could be a chance for "Cobra Kai" season 7. The showrunners, stars, and Netflix itself have all made it clear that season 6 is the end, but they've also talked extensively about the...

Cobra Kai's trio of showrunners, producers, writers, and directors, Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg, have been thinking about their series finale for years. "Even before we wrote the first episode, we had a sense of certain things that were important to us," they tell Gold Derby. "We knew that we wanted to end our series with Johnny Lawrence having a second chance at life."
Cobra Kai delivered its final karate chop on Feb. 13 on Netflix, and fans are still coping with having to say farewell to their favorite characters, including "frenemies" Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka). In this exclusive port-mortem Q&a with Gold Derby, Heald, Hurwitz, and Schlossberg open up about crafting a series finale, the alternate ending you didn't see on TV, and the show's upcoming Emmy chances.
