    Great show spoiled

This is a disappointing recording of a spectacular stage show which I saw multiple times in Chichester and London. The original was beautifully staged especially the big production numbers and this is lost by the constant flicking between close ups more akin to a pop video or advert than a viewing of a theatre production. Such a shame they did not record it without all the 'flash band wallop' editing effects and allowed the show's outstanding qualities to be prevail. This was Charlie Stemp's first of many stand out performances and his star quality shines through despite not showing his outstanding dancing abilities to their full capacity.

Lively show based on the HG Wells book Kipps

I really enjoyed this having not seen another version of half a sixpence. Charlie Stemp who plays the main character Arthur Kipps has an air of a young Lee Evans bringing energy and humor to the role. All cast are fantastic. I'm not quite sure why the director felt it necessary to put needless video editing over the scene changes. If it's a filmed live version then I would expect to see it as a member of the audience. But it's a minor niggle that shouldn't put you off watching if you get a chance.
