There was almost a version of The Expendables 2 where Nicolas Cage showed up mid-firefight, face contorted, voice cracking, and absolutely stealing the scene. It didn’t happen, and the reason… a scheduling mess that stopped the madness before it began.

Back in 2012, The Expendables 2 was gearing up to one-up its predecessor by cranking the testosterone to eleven. Stallone had already roped in Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, and a returning crew of action icons. But behind the scenes, there were talks of adding Cage and John Travolta to the growing bicep brigade. Stallone himself mentioned that timing was the issue – coordinating everyone’s availability with the film’s Bulgarian shooting schedule proved impossible.

So while fans got plenty of roundhouse kicks and helicopter rescues, they missed out on Cage going full Face/Off. And the Cage buzz didn’t stop there.

It’s been 15 years since Kick-Ass hit theaters, and now the creators of the comic book on which the film is based are reuniting. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. will team up for a new comic book, Psychic Sam, which follows a “guy with a big gun who goes out and solves problems.” Millar mentioned that the main character hears voices in his head telling him to kill bad guys, but the problem is, the bad guys haven’t done anything yet. It’s also been announced that the duo is developing a feature film of Psychic Sam, with The Gentlemen producer Ivan Atkinson attached to produce. Psychic Sam will be the first project for Millar not under the Netflix banner since he struck a deal with the streamer in 2017.

Kathryn Newton's star power is gaining strength as The Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania actress has secured another major role, this time in a new shark thriller, Devil's Mouth. The film will see Newton battling for survival against the relentless underwater predator aptly likened to the devil. She won’t be facing the danger alone, though, as the report from Deadline reveals that To All The Boys I've Loved Before breakout star, Lana Condor, has also been cast. Devil's Mouth is a high-profile collaboration between Amazon MGM, and Lionsgate, marking Newton's second Amazon project following the well-received time-loop romance The Map of Tiny Perfect Things, which premiered on Prime Video to critical acclaim.

In what promises to be a thrilling spin on the modern shark horror hit, 47 Meters Down, Devil's Mouth will see Newton and Condo as two college best friends whose vacation trip to Thailand takes a dangerous turn.

Scooper @MyTimeToShineH recently revealed that Speak No Evil's James Watkins is being eyed to direct Clayface. Deadline has today confirmed that he's in the mix; however, Watkins is not alone.

According to the trade, Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow is among those being invited to pitch their take on the Dcu movie. Beyond his comic book movie experience (which includes the script for 2020's Bloodshot), the filmmaker has helmed critically panned horror flicks like Truth or Dare, Fantasy Island, and Imaginary.

Ultimately, DC Studios will choose the filmmaker they believe is right for the job but Watkins feels like the better fit given his filmography includes the likes of Eden Lake and The Woman in Black.

As for why writer Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House) isn't set to helm Clayface, it's said he was never going to be among those considered due to commitments to other projects,...

DC Studios is moving full steam ahead with their Clayface movie, which already has a screenplay ready to go by horror auteur Mike Flanagan and a current release date of September 11, 2026. The next stage of the development process is finding the right director, and the DC brass has two potential names in mind for the job.

Per Deadline, Jeff Wadlow and James Watkins are being eyed for the job, and DC Studios is ready to hear pitches from both directors next week. Other directors could very well be in the mix, but these are the two names that are coming out ahead of the rest. Wadlow just recently directed the horror film Imaginary last year, and his other credits include Truth or Dare, the horror remake of Fantasy Island, and Kick-Ass 2, among others. While some of his horror efforts haven't been well-received, some of them have become minor box...

An update has been revealed for Clayface, the DC Studios film that will put the shapeshifting supervillain front and center as the star of his own story. The movie will be written by Mike Flanagan, who has been heavily praised for his horror work, and now two potential directors have been named.

Per Deadline, the filmmakers currently in consideration to direct Clayface include Jeff Wadlow (Truth or Dare) and James Watkins (Speak No Evil). Reportedly, the casting process is underway as well, though no actors have yet been named. The plan is to first get a director on board so the filmmaker can be involved with locking down specific cast members for desired roles. While Flanagan has been praised for his work as a director, he is only handling writing duties on Clayface with no intention of taking the helm himself, as he remains committed to his upcoming Exorcist reboot.

Blood, violence, car chases, and fight scenes are all pretty synonymous with action movies, especially R-rated action movies where things can get even grittier. Unfortunately, with those tropes and plot points showing up in most films within the genre, some of them can’t cut through the noise to showcase some originality and are pretty bad. Even sequels of popular films such as Kick-Ass 2 couldn’t capture the creativity and comedic energy surrounding the immense violence committed by amateur superheroes in the first film. The concept just wasn’t there.

This all happened during the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012. Jim Carrey wasn’t okay with the violence the film portrayed anymore. In a tweet, he declared: “I did Kick-Ass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart.”

Creator Mark Millar was baffled by the whole stuff. He took to his blog, alluding, “[I’m] baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn’t in the screenplay 18 months ago.” Ouch.

Two of the best movies of Jim Carrey’s career got two of the worst sequels ever made, and they each used the same ridiculous premise to get around Carrey’s absence. Carrey has famously been trepidatious about doing sequels ever since his first one was a disaster. He prefers to explore new stories and new characters with each project instead of going back to rehash a familiar role. A lot of the sequels he’s been in, like Kick-Ass 2 and Batman Forever, have been sequels to movies he wasn’t in.

Of course, there have been a few exceptions. He reprised his role as Lloyd Christmas in the belated sequel to Dumb and Dumber, and he’s appeared as Dr. Robotnik in all three of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies. Released in 2010, Kick-Ass was a superhero black comedy film that starred Johnson as an ordinary teenager named Dave who becomes a real-life superhero called "Kick-Ass." Dave soon gets caught up in a larger battle when he comes across the former cop Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) who is trying to take down crime boss Frank D'Amico (Mark Strong). The Kick-Ass franchise is returning as a trilogy reboot, most likely not with Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Taylor-Johnson's superhero roles make it hard to imagine him returning as traditional Kick-Ass. If would be fun to see a Kick-Ass project with an older Kick-Ass mentoring a new hero, with Taylor-Johnson returning for a cameo.

Aaron Taylor-Jonhson has been a $1.4 billion superhero Avengers movie and will soon play Spider-Man villain Kraven the Hunter, making it nearly impossible to picture him as a more traditional Kick-Ass character in a potential sequel. Starz has secured the U.S. and Canadian rights to air Sweetpea, a six-part series adapted from C.J. Skuse's novel of the same name. Ella Purnell (Fallout) leads the cast and will also serve as an executive producer under See-Saw Films and Sky Studios. Sweetpea stars Purnell as Rhiannon, "a quiet wallflower who develops a vengeful and intoxicatingly liberating taste for murder," according to the official synopsis (via Forbes). Blumhouse and Lionsgate’s horror movie Imaginary is now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital from Lionsgate, in the wake of the film scaring up $39 million at the box office.

To whet your appetite for the home video release, Lionsgate has provided Bloody Disgusting with an exclusive clip from the bonus features package, which takes you into the Never-Ever, a land of pure imagination where monsters roam free. This is a horror movie, after all.

“The Never-Ever set was a really fun set to conceive with [director Jeff Wadlow],” production designer Meghan Rogers recalls. “We really had to kind of think outside the box.”

Imaginary, the latest team-up between Blumhouse and director Jeff Wadlow – who had previously collaborated on the 2018 film Truth or Dare and the 2020 horror version of Fantasy Island – reached theatres on March 8th, and it hasn’t set the box office on fire during its tow and a half week theatrical run, pulling in just under $29 million at the global box office. Now Lionsgate has given the film a PVOD (that’s Premium Video on Demand) and Pest (that’s Premium Electronic Sell-Through) release, so maybe more genre fans will check it out now that it’s available to watch in the comfort of our own homes.
