Kick-Ass 2

When Nicolas Cage Was Set To Bring Mayhem To Expendables 2—But It All Fell Apart Behind The Scenes
Image
Nicolas Cage Was Set To Bring Mayhem To Expendables 2(Photo Credit –Facebook)

There was almost a version of The Expendables 2 where Nicolas Cage showed up mid-firefight, face contorted, voice cracking, and absolutely stealing the scene. It didn’t happen, and the reason… a scheduling mess that stopped the madness before it began.

Back in 2012, The Expendables 2 was gearing up to one-up its predecessor by cranking the testosterone to eleven. Stallone had already roped in Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, and a returning crew of action icons. But behind the scenes, there were talks of adding Cage and John Travolta to the growing bicep brigade. Stallone himself mentioned that timing was the issue – coordinating everyone’s availability with the film’s Bulgarian shooting schedule proved impossible.

So while fans got plenty of roundhouse kicks and helicopter rescues, they missed out on Cage going full Face/Off. And the Cage buzz didn’t stop there.

After His Failed Netflix Superhero Series, Mark Millar Is Gearing Up for a Brand-New Comic Book Movie
Image
It’s been 15 years since Kick-Ass hit theaters, and now the creators of the comic book on which the film is based are reuniting. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. will team up for a new comic book, Psychic Sam, which follows a “guy with a big gun who goes out and solves problems.” Millar mentioned that the main character hears voices in his head telling him to kill bad guys, but the problem is, the bad guys haven’t done anything yet. It’s also been announced that the duo is developing a feature film of Psychic Sam, with The Gentlemen producer Ivan Atkinson attached to produce. Psychic Sam will be the first project for Millar not under the Netflix banner since he struck a deal with the streamer in 2017.

Very few details are known about the project at this time, including potential casting,...

Marvel Star Kathryn Newton to Star in Shark Thriller 'Devil's Mouth'
Image
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniaactress Kathryn Newton is preparing to sink her teeth into a creature feature that will see her swap ground insects for underwater predators. The Marvel star has secured a major role in a shark survival thriller helmed by Jeff Wadlow, the director of Kick-Ass 2, Fantasy Island, and Imaginary. Newton will headline the upcoming film, titled Devil's Mouth, alongside Lana Condor, who is best known for her role in To All the Boys I've Loved Before, but also starred in the recently unshelved Coyote Vs. Acme.

Newton is no stranger to scares, having starred in two acclaimed horror movies (among other titles) just last year, hot on the heels of her heroic turn in the McU's third Ant-Man film. The first was the "coming of rage love story" Lisa Frankenstein, which saw her in the titular role opposite Cole Sprouse, and the second was the hit vampire flick Abigail,...

6 Marvel And DC Actors Who Inadvertently Helped Tank The Superhero Movies They Starred In
Image
Plenty of superhero movies have fallen afoul of fans and critics over the years, with that sometimes enough to doom their chances of success. Then, there's been the rare occasion when someone directly involved with one of these adaptations has helped (inadvertently or otherwise) tank them.

How could any of us forget Fantastic Four director Josh Trank disowning the reboot on Twitter in 2015? According to box office analysts, his remarks and negative press they received in the days that followed, were enough to shave as much as $10 million off the movie's opening weekend.

In this feature, we're concentrating on actors who caused irreparable damage to the superhero movies they starred in. Whether it was refusing to promote them, personal issues which killed fan interest, or even uncontrollable egos, we're sure you'll agree this lot did little to help.

To find out who we've singled out, you just need to tap...

Everything We Know About Masters of the Universe (2026)
Masters of the Universe (2026)
The Masters of the Universe franchise has been going strong for over forty years now, consisting of multiple lines of action figures, several animated TV shows, a bunch of comic book series, and much more including a live-action film adaptation that was released in 1987 and starred Dolph Lundgren as the iconic character He-Man. Although that ’87 film has a strong fan following, it wasn’t received very well in general… but now, Mattel (the toy company behind the franchise) is ready to give the idea of a live-action Masters of the Universe film another try. Set up at Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Studios, the new Masters of the Universe is aiming for a theatrical release date of June 5, 2026 – and here’s everything we know about it:

Kick-ass 2 Director Jeff Wadlow In The Mix To Helm Clayface; Reason Why Mike Flanagan Won't Direct Revealed
Image
Scooper @MyTimeToShineH recently revealed that Speak No Evil's James Watkins is being eyed to direct Clayface. Deadline has today confirmed that he's in the mix; however, Watkins is not alone.

According to the trade, Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow is among those being invited to pitch their take on the Dcu movie. Beyond his comic book movie experience (which includes the script for 2020's Bloodshot), the filmmaker has helmed critically panned horror flicks like Truth or Dare, Fantasy Island, and Imaginary.

Ultimately, DC Studios will choose the filmmaker they believe is right for the job but Watkins feels like the better fit given his filmography includes the likes of Eden Lake and The Woman in Black.

As for why writer Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House) isn't set to helm Clayface, it's said he was never going to be among those considered due to commitments to other projects,...

'Clayface' Movie Eyed by 'Speak No Evil' & 'Kick-Ass 2' Directors
Image
DC Studios is moving full steam ahead with their Clayface movie, which already has a screenplay ready to go by horror auteur Mike Flanagan and a current release date of September 11, 2026. The next stage of the development process is finding the right director, and the DC brass has two potential names in mind for the job.

Per Deadline, Jeff Wadlow and James Watkins are being eyed for the job, and DC Studios is ready to hear pitches from both directors next week. Other directors could very well be in the mix, but these are the two names that are coming out ahead of the rest. Wadlow just recently directed the horror film Imaginary last year, and his other credits include Truth or Dare, the horror remake of Fantasy Island, and Kick-Ass 2, among others. While some of his horror efforts haven't been well-received, some of them have become minor box...

2 Potential Directors Revealed for Mike Flanagan's Clayface Movie
Image
An update has been revealed for Clayface, the DC Studios film that will put the shapeshifting supervillain front and center as the star of his own story. The movie will be written by Mike Flanagan, who has been heavily praised for his horror work, and now two potential directors have been named.

Per Deadline, the filmmakers currently in consideration to direct Clayface include Jeff Wadlow (Truth or Dare) and James Watkins (Speak No Evil). Reportedly, the casting process is underway as well, though no actors have yet been named. The plan is to first get a director on board so the filmmaker can be involved with locking down specific cast members for desired roles. While Flanagan has been praised for his work as a director, he is only handling writing duties on Clayface with no intention of taking the helm himself, as he remains committed to his upcoming Exorcist reboot.

Why 'Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children' Deserves a Sequel
Image
As breakout TV star Ella Purnell looks to capitalize on her 2024 success, Tim Burton should consider making a sequel to the ill-fated Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. The 2016 teen fantasy film, cut from the cloth of Harry Potter and X-Men, follows the mysterious residents of the titular home, where a group of youngsters with strange superpowers come of age, develop their skills, and embrace their peculiarities while fending off a formidable foe.

Despite scoring mixed-to-positive reviews and nearly tripling its budget at the international box office, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children was shuttered before receiving its planned cinematic sequel. Now that a decade has passed and Ella Purnell has become a highly sought-after Hollywood A-lister, Tim Burton Productions and 20th Century Fox should revisit the movie and make an official sequel.

10 Worst R-Rated Action Movies, Ranked
Image
Blood, violence, car chases, and fight scenes are all pretty synonymous with action movies, especially R-rated action movies where things can get even grittier. Unfortunately, with those tropes and plot points showing up in most films within the genre, some of them can’t cut through the noise to showcase some originality and are pretty bad. Even sequels of popular films such as Kick-Ass 2 couldn’t capture the creativity and comedic energy surrounding the immense violence committed by amateur superheroes in the first film. The concept just wasn’t there.

When Jim Carrey Refused To Promote His Own Movie Sparking A Controversy
Image
Did Jim Carrey refuse to promote Kick-Ass 2? (Photo Credit – Instagram)

This all happened during the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012. Jim Carrey wasn’t okay with the violence the film portrayed anymore. In a tweet, he declared: “I did Kick-Ass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart.”

Creator Mark Millar was baffled by the whole stuff. He took to his blog, alluding, “[I’m] baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn’t in the screenplay 18 months ago.” Ouch.

It was difficult for Millar, yes. He pointed out that Kick-Ass 2 was always going to have its share of blood. Also because, the first movie (Hit-Girl) had set the tone. Millar defended his film, calling it fiction and that it...

2 Of Jim Carrey's Best Movies Got Terrible Sequels With The Same Bizarre Premise
Image
Two of the best movies of Jim Carrey’s career got two of the worst sequels ever made, and they each used the same ridiculous premise to get around Carrey’s absence. Carrey has famously been trepidatious about doing sequels ever since his first one was a disaster. He prefers to explore new stories and new characters with each project instead of going back to rehash a familiar role. A lot of the sequels he’s been in, like Kick-Ass 2 and Batman Forever, have been sequels to movies he wasn’t in.

Of course, there have been a few exceptions. He reprised his role as Lloyd Christmas in the belated sequel to Dumb and Dumber, and he’s appeared as Dr. Robotnik in all three of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies. But for the most part, Carrey has avoided making sequels. He never made a sequel to Liar Liar...

Jim Carrey Once Starred In A Mystery Thriller That Has A 0% Score On Rotten Tomatoes And Was By Far His Worst Movie
Image
The worst movie of Jim Carreys entire career and its not even close is a grisly crime thriller that doesnt have a single positive review counted on Rotten Tomatoes. Carrey has starred in many great movies. His tenure as a movie star kicked off with a triple whammy of classic comedies, one after the other: The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Hes made great straightforward comedies, like Liar Liar and Bruce Almighty, and hes made quirkier, more outside-the-box films, like The Truman Show and The Cable Guy.

But Carrey has also had his fair share of disappointments. The long-awaited sequel Dumb and Dumber To was a massive let-down compared to its iconic predecessor; The Incredible Burt Wonderstone has a hilarious premise and a star-studded cast, but it plays it too safe; and Kick-Ass 2 is completely lacking the first movies sense of fun. But Carreys true...

Kick-ass Star Chloë Grace Moretz Comes Out As Gay Woman In Heartfelt New Social Media Post
Image
Chloë Grace Moretz already had a lot of acting credits to her name before starring in Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass, but that role put her on the map...and generated a lot of controversy.

Given her young age at the time, the fact she was dropping F-bombs (and the odd C-word) shocked many, as did the sheer level of violence some of the 11-year-old's scenes included. Since then, Moretz has gone on to star in the likes of Let Me In, Hugo, Carrie, Tom & Jerry, and Kick-Ass 2, of course.

Now, the actor is making headlines after coming out as a "gay woman" on Instagram. Moretz revealed her sexual orientation in a post regarding her decision in the 2024 United States Presidential Election.

Moretz has been romantically linked to model Kate Harrison since 2018 but has never publicly commented on her sexuality. This cause was clearly one important enough to the actor to change that.

Ella Purnells TV Hot Streak Is Incredibly Impressive
Image
Ella Purnell is in the middle of an incredible Rotten Tomatoes hot streak with her television projects. The 28-year-old Fallout and Yellowjackets star began her onscreen career in the early 2010s after making her film debut as Young Ruth (the younger version of the character played by Keira Knightley) in the Kazuo Ishiguro adaptation Never Let Me Go. As she grew up, she took on a few similar roles including playing a teenage version of Angelina Jolie's character in 2014's Maleficent.

Although she is perhaps best known for her television projects, there are quite a few Ella Purnell movies that have earned her notoriety on the big screen. Her most prominent roles include playing Dolce in Jeff Wadlow's Kick-Ass 2, Emma in Tim Burton's Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, and Kate Ward in Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead. Sweetpea Cast & Character Guide
Image
Starz's new comedy-drama show, Sweetpea, is a thrilling miniseries that follows Rhiannon Lewis becoming a killer after her life falls apart. The story takes place in South England and features a talented cast predominantly consisting of British actors who nail their roles, creating both a hilarious yet gripping atmosphere. The cast is led by Ella Purnell, who has become a household name following the success of Fallout earlier in 2024. While she played an endearing vault dweller with a heart of gold in her Prime Video series, Ella Purnell's Sweetpea role is the opposite of her Fallout character.

Her incredible performance suggests that Sweetpea has the potential to be among Ella Purnell's best TV shows, as is the case for the rest of the cast. The show has a real charm that is helped by how ordinary and realistic most of the characters are, as they convey a casual working-class...

Ella Purnell on Terrifying Onlookers While Researching Serial Killers for ‘Sweetpea,’ Finding Her Voice as Producer and How She’s Prepping for ‘Fallout’ Season 2
Image
On a flight not so long ago, Ella Purnell managed to terrify the woman sat next to her after accidentally giving her a glimpse of the recent viewing history on her laptop.

“It was basically 50 shows about serial killers,” she recalls, speaking over coffee in a café near her flat in East London (which she admits she’s rarely been in due to excessive recent travel). “But specifically female serial killers, because they’re very different from male serial killers.”

As Purnell notes, the concerned neighbor was carrying a baby, which she then “literally moved” away from her.

“So I had to explain. I was like, ‘I’m so sorry, I’m actually researching, it’s part of my job… I promise you, I’m not a monster,'” she recalls. “But I’m not sure how convincing I was.”

The Brit was, thankfully, telling the truth. A year on,...

Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Kick-Ass Return Is Impossible After His $1.4 Billion Superhero Role
Image
The Kick-Ass franchise is returning as a trilogy reboot, most likely not with Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Taylor-Johnson's superhero roles make it hard to imagine him returning as traditional Kick-Ass. If would be fun to see a Kick-Ass project with an older Kick-Ass mentoring a new hero, with Taylor-Johnson returning for a cameo.

Aaron Taylor-Jonhson has been a $1.4 billion superhero Avengers movie and will soon play Spider-Man villain Kraven the Hunter, making it nearly impossible to picture him as a more traditional Kick-Ass character in a potential sequel. Before Prime Videos adaptations of The Boys and Invincible took superhero deconstruction to the mainstream, comic books like Mark Millars Kick-Ass were already addressing the tropes of the genre with a lot of humor and hyper-violence. Matthew Vaughs Kick-Ass (2010) captured the essence of the comic book and was a modest hit, prompting the release of a sequel, 2013s Kick-Ass 2.

Vaughn did not direct Kick-Ass 2,...

The Stuntman - Release Window, Producer, Director And More Info
Image
Remember the halcyon days of 2010? The Marvel Cinematic Universe was still in its infancy, but much was already being made of any superhero movie that felt even slightly different from the future juggernaut's quippy origin stories. Future DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn's name was already in the middle of conversations about superhero ethics thanks to his new film "Super," while fans of Alan Moore's "Watchmen" comics were still debating the merits and myriad drawbacks of Zack Snyder's big-screen adaptation. From "The Spirit" to "Hancock," recent alternative superhero stories were actively dividing audiences who had yet to lay eyes on a single "Avengers" film.

Then "Kick-Ass" showed up. The R-rated action-comedy featured a scrappy teen hero, a little girl who loved to beat the s**t out of people, a fittingly odd Nicolas Cage performance, and the unofficially cinematic mascot of the late aughts, "Superbad" breakout star Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

Fallout's cast is led by a nearly unrecognizable Walton Goggins who plays Cooper Howard before he becomes The Ghoul, as well as Ella Purnell as protagonist Lucy MacLean.
