Loco to open with Lost In Karastan

London Comedy Film Festival to open with a satirical comedy starring Matthew Macfadyen.

Loco, the London Comedy Film Festival, will open Jan 22 with Ben Hopkins’ Lost In Karastan (fka Epic), a satirical comedy starring Matthew Macfadyen as Emil Forester, a down-at-heel British director who is flattered when the president of Karastan invites him to film their national epic.

The festival presents Discovery Awards for shorts and features. The feature nominees are SuperBob by Jon Drever, Mle by Sarah Warren and The Fitzroy by Andrew Harmer. These films will be showcased on Curzon Home Cinema.

Other film selections include The Bubonic Play (world premiere); Dutch dark comedy Farewell To The Moon; Czech selection Totally Talking; and Onur Tukel’s vampire comedy Summer of Blood.

The classic films showing include Kind Hearts and Coronets, The Fisher King, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, and Abigail’s Party, paired with a 1970s-themed drinks party. Kids’ screenings include Aladdin at the BFI IMAX...

Exclusive: Rolling Stones musician Ronnie Wood is to executive produce a film starring Nymphomaniac actress Stacy Martin.

Ian Hall’s UK sales outfit Genesis Film Sales is to launch two intriguing titles at this year’s Cannes marché: comedy-romance SuperBob, produced by Robert Jones, and drama Winter, executive produced by Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood and starring Stacy Martin in her follow-up to Nymphomaniac.

Both films are currently in post-production.

Winter marks the feature debute of writer-director Heidi Greensmith and sees Sons of Anarchy star Tommy Flanagan lead cast as an artist who must come to terms with his wife’s death in order to save his relationship with his two sons.

The cast also includes Stacy Martin, who made her high profile debut in Lars Von Trier controversial sex drama Nymphomaniac. Winter marks the second feature for the former Screen Star of Tomorrow.

Catherine Tate for superhero comedy 'Superbob'

Catherine Tate has been cast in Superbob.

The former Doctor Who actress will star in the superhero comedy alongside Natalia Tena (Game Of Thrones), Laura Haddock (The Inbetweeners Movie) and Brett Goldstein.

Jon Drever makes his directorial debut on the film based on his short about a postman who gains superpowers after a meteor crash.

The shy man struggles to balance saving the world with his personal dating woes.

Ruth Sheen (Run, Fat Boy, Run) and Ricky Grover (Getting On) will also feature in the film.

Tate will also star in David Walliams's BBC One sitcom Big School and a remake of Everybody Loves Raymond.

Superbob will be shooting in London this month.

The cast features Brett Goldstein (Derek), Catherine Tate (Doctor Who), Natalia Tena (Game Of Thrones), Laura Haddock (The Inbetweeners Movie), Ruth Sheen (Run Fat Boy Run) and Ricky Grover (Getting On).

The plot follows a London postman who gets superpowers after a meteor crashes to earth. But he’s still bad at dealing with women, and has to prepare for his first date in six years.

Jon Drever makes his feature debut after directing a short of the same name. The writers are Goldstein and Will Bridges.
