Only Murders in the Building opened its third season on Hulu on Aug. 8, and it drew 719 million minutes of watch time for the week of Aug. 7-13. That’s a series high for the show and 24 percent higher than its previous best, 578 million minutes for the week of its season two finale in August 2022. California Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Wednesday that the state will be issuing new guidelines for reopening businesses in the state.

“We’re working with local health officers all up and down the state,” said Newsom. “We’re working on new criteria, more prescriptive criteria, more dynamic criteria, as it relates to our health order statewide, as it relates to reopening business sectors in the state.”

“We’ve been working on drafts back and forth with local officials,” revealed the governor, “in a spirit of collaboration.”

While Newsom was careful not to reveal the exact direction of the guidelines — whether looser or more strict — He said they would be made “With…an understanding that we have today based on what we’ve seen around the world, around the rest of the state and our own experiences going back a number of months.”

The governor revealed that watch periods may vary from sector to sector.

International television execs are jetting home today after a spending a week in the South of France at the Mip TV and Canneseries events.

The wet and windy weather compounded a slightly low-key feel at the events with Reed Midem announcing that 10,000 people were in attendance. This official number is down on the 11,000 that arrived in 2016 and 11,500 people that attended last year and seems high given that the Croisette was rather quiet during the week, not helped by French air and rail strikes.

However, there were a plethora of deals announced at the market, with the biggest talking point in the bunkers and bars was the suggestion, broken by Deadline, that Endemol Shine Group could be sold with ITV and others starting to consider another TV mega-merger.

Endemol Shine itself was responsible for possibly the noisiest format in Cannes, German physical gameshow Big Bounce Battle, which was attracting interest from across a number of markets.

Cannes — MipTV closed Thursday its quietest edition in years, wracked by French air and rail strikes, dreary weather and most important market change and larger competition from February’s BBC Showcase and May’s L.A. Screenings.

2018 MipTV attendance came in around 10,000, said Laurine Garaude, director of Reed Midem’s Television Division, which organizes the content trade fair. That compares to official estimates of 11,000 for 2016 and 10,500 for 2017. Some “hundreds” of participants were no-shows because of the strikes, addedJerome Delhaye, Reed Midem director of the entertainment division.

In a bigger picture, however, as broadcast networks restructure as content creator-owners, not passive broadcasters of acquired product, MipTV is having to reinvent itself, launching “major strategic developments,” said Garaude, Its traditional role as a sales market less required, it is becoming ever more a production forum.

Jackie Earle Haley, the last actor to wear and use Freddy Krueger’s iconic finger knives on screen, highlights the list of notable performers who will voice characters in Bethesda’s upcoming survival horror title, The Evil Within. Haley, who also played Rorschach in Hollywood’s adaptation of The Watchmen, has been outed as the game’s main villain, Ruvik. His opponent, Detective Sebastian Castellanos, will be portrayed by Anson Mount of Hell on Wheels fame.

Dexter fans will also be happy to hear that Jennifer Carpenter — who is most famous for her role as the serial killer’s sister, Debra Morgan — will appear in the game as Detective Castellanos’ partner, Juli Kidman. She rounds out an impressive cast that will lend an air of credibility to the brand new IP.

Released alongside this news is a trailer that mixes gruesome gameplay footage with shots of the aforementioned actors doing their thing.

The E4 series attracted 720k (3.4%) at 9pm on average (169k/1.1% on +1), which are the show's best ratings since its series seven launch earlier this year.

On BBC One, Antiques Roadshow interested 4.20 million (22.0%) at 7pm, while Countryfile topped the night with 5.12m (23.8%) at 8pm.

The Village continued with 3.92m (18.3%) at 9pm, dropping around 700k viewers from last week's opener. Match of the Day 2 scored 2.39m (19.0%) at 10.35pm.

BBC Two's Tropic of Capricorn appealed to 1.23m (6.5%) at 7pm, followed by Dragons' Den with 2.65m (12.3%) at 8pm. James May's Cars of the People brought in 2.60m (12.1%) at 9pm.

I didn't quite know how to describe the genre I'm referring to with this post (BoxOfficeMojo doesn't even have a category for it), but suffice to say I'm particularly targeting the films made popular by the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone back in the '80s and more recently it seems Jason Statham had a lock down on things.
