Remakes tend to make fans nervous more often than not, and James Gunn understands this very well. The director was responsible for helming the script of the Dawn of the Dead remake, which was directed by Zack Snyder. Owing to this, the Guardians of the Galaxy director opened up about how remakes make fans of the original cynical, and why he understands this sentiment pretty well.

While helming Dawn of the Dead, James Gunn talked about how a particular remake had him incredibly miffed, causing him to react exactly how a disgruntled fan would. This film was Nicolas Cage’s City of Angels, which was the remake of Wings of Desire.

James Gunn has delivered a brilliant animated beginning to the Dcu with Creature Commandos. The show, as is the case with some of Gunn’s other projects, took some very obscure characters from the DC canon and thrust them into the limelight with a brilliant story and an engaging soundtrack.

James Gunn revealed that the success of X-Men ’97, according to him, was because it did not chase after trends, and instead delivered something unique, which is also something that the Dcu would like to do. However, this was the director’s justification for not reviving any of the old, non-dcu, non-dceu animated shows, such as Justice League Unlimited or Batman Beyond.

James Gunn is a genius. We know that it has been said many a time for the veteran director but Gunn finds a way of proving himself countless times over and over again.

For years, Kevin Feige’s Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been the backbone of superhero cinema and delivered consistent blockbusters. However, the reign of the MCU might be at risk since the landscape of superhero cinema is bound to undergo a seismic shift with James Gunn bringing in his version of the DC universe.

The DC Universe just brought its first major Batman villain into the franchise - and may have possibly killed them off just as quickly. Creature Commandos has kicked off the Dcu for audiences, with the show serving as the opening for Dcu Chapter 1: Gods And Monsters, and a prelude of sorts to the 2025 Superman movie and its July release date. That said, Creature Commandos has done an admirable job at bringing many key figures from different corners of DC lore into the franchise from its earliest possibility.
In the span of five episodes alone, the Creature Commandos cast has been extended to include Circe - a notable Wonder Woman villain - and technically a good portion of the Dcu's hero roster, albeit by showing them dead in a theoretical dystopian future that Circe warns the show's heroes of. Though 2022's The Batman has a full roster of major DC characters, Selina Kyle/Catwoman, played by Zoë Kravitz, is a standout character. Her arc leads her to avenge her mother's murder by none other than her own father, Carmine Falcone, after she discovers his culpability. The latter is the top crime boss in Gotham City, a role that requires ruthlessness to keep. Kravitz is joined in the cast by John Turturro as Falcone, Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/the Penguin, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/the Riddler, and Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman.
Introduced as a waitress at the Iceberg Lounge, Selina acts as a cat burglar and drug dealer, using her job to take advantage of Falcone and his underling, the Penguin. She resents her father for letting her go into foster care despite knowing she was his daughter out of wedlock. Because of this, Selina becomes friends with Annika,...

When the trailer for Superman (2025) finally dropped, I assumed I would have been primarily interested in David Corenswet’s Man of Steel, but instead, I find myself more fascinated with a different DC hero: Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern. The Dcu’s Superman is set to redefine the iconic hero for a new generation, marking the first movie in James Gunn’s Dcu Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Despite the earnest charm of Corenswet’s Clark Kent, I’m more excited about Nathan Fillion’s take on Green Lantern - specifically, the hilariously brash and unmistakable Guy Gardner.
James Gunn’s Superman represents the dawn of a new Dcu, a fresh slate after years of inconsistent films and muddled timelines. James Gunn stated that this new Superman would be a bastion of hope with a distinct sense of humanity, contrasting with Henry Cavill’s Superman in the Dceu, who was more serious and godlike.

James Gunn’s involvement in reshaping the DC Universe (Dcu) has sparked significant debate, especially around the decision to part ways with Henry Cavill as Superman. A rumor circulating claims that Gunn had been orchestrating the reboot long before it was officially announced, fueling the controversy around Cavill’s exit.

Gunn, however, has recently addressed this issue, emphasizing the facts behind his choices and debunking the notion that he planned to replace Cavill from the outset. However, his casting choices in addition to that of Superman, who will be portrayed by David Corenswet for the time being, have fuelled further controversy.
The question remains: if Gunn has cast actors in their 40s and older for pivotal roles in his upcoming Dcu, what justified the recasting of Cavill, who was a fan favorite for Superman?

Dcu has quite a few projects to be developed and released in the next several years, one that fans are most excited about is ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ Dcu’s take on Batman. We recently covered how the movie might have found its next Bruce Wayne in Glen Powell, but fans have been suggesting one interesting fan casting for Harvey Dent / Two-Face.
You’re probably wondering what Starr has to do with all of it. Well, the actor is frequently associated with Dcu and potential roles in this new cinematic universe primarily due to his connection to James Gunn.
Several weeks ago the actor was massively cast in the role of Booster Gold primarily due to his physical resemblance to the character, something that annoyed the actor and he debunked the rumor by giving fans a very Homelander response to it.

While it's too late to play either of the two big roles he was hoping to land, the WWE legend remains open to taking on another character in the Dcu.

James Gunn's Dcu reboot will feature the return of John Cena's Peacemaker, unlike Black Adam, who Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson set up to be the Dceu's most famous character in 2022. Peacemaker's Dceu appearances made him a popular and proportionately powerful character, earning him a spot in the Dcu. Dwayne Johnson's exceedingly high expectations for Black Adam resulted in an underwhelming performance, which led to the character being sidelined.

But, from the looks of it, Gunn has a very firm vision of what he wants to create, and fans of DC Comics definitely have a lot to be excited about. When James Gunn finally gave us the first look at David Corenswet’s Superman last month, some were less than thrilled because of the muted colors, which had to do with its lightning. Although it makes sense why this was chosen for the reveal, as it didn’t give away much details, fans were still craving for a look at the new suit in proper lightning.
Fortunately, a month after the reveal, fans’ wishes have come true, and following the new peek at the suit in broad daylight, fans are assured he’d have perfectly complimented Robert Pattinson’s Batman.

DiCaprio's versatility and talent make him a prime candidate for iconic DC roles like Black Mask, Mr. Freeze, and Jonah Hex. His ability to embody complex characters with depth and nuance would elevate characters like Thomas Wayne and The Question in the DC Universe. DiCaprio's experience portraying morally ambiguous and vengeful characters aligns perfectly with the layered personalities of characters like Hush and Deadshot.
Leonardo DiCaprio seems unlikely to star in a comic book movie, but there are some DC Universe roles that he might struggle to decline. DiCaprio reportedly warned Timothée Chalamet not to make superhero movies, and has turned down several comic book roles. However, there are a number DC characters that would prove far harder for him to pass up on.

DiCaprio reportedly warned Timothée Chalamet not to make superhero movies, and has turned down several comic book roles. However, there are a number DC characters that would prove far harder for him to pass up on.

Dave Bautista to star in The Killer's Game, an upcoming action-comedy about assassins. The movie will reunite Bautista with Guardians of the Galaxy co-star Pom Klementieff, but they won't be friends. Bautista has proven to be a versatile action star, excelling in comedy and serious roles.
Dave Bautista is set to star in the upcoming movie adaptation of The Killer's Game, which just got even more exciting thanks to its ties to a $4.5 billion franchise. Over the past ten years, Bautista has become a familiar face on the big screen, thanks to his roles in several big film franchises. In doing so, he's also proven himself to be one of the best actors who started out as wrestlers. Now, Bautista will star as the lead in J.J. Zack Snyder played a pivotal role in shaping the early years of the DC Extended Universe (Dceu). Snyder directed the 2013 film Man of Steel, which served as the Dceu’s first installment. The movie rebooted Superman for a new generation and introduced a darker, more grounded take on the character.

The film was then completed by Joss Whedon, resulting in a significantly different version from Snyder’s original vision. Snyder, who got so much opportunity in Dceu, recently went to Joe Rogan’s podcast and spoke about something that fans felt disrespectful.

Glen Powell fondly remembers his roles in Spy Kids 3D and The Dark Knight Rises. Despite the brevity of his appearance, Powell takes pride in being part of the Batman movie. Powell humorously suggests that even if nothing else happens in his career, having his head smashed by Bane is a memorable highlight.
Glen Powell has talked about his brief The Dark Knight Rises role, sharing a hilarious comment about his time in the movie. The Dark Knight trilogy by director Christopher Nolan marked a generation, with the three movies starring impressive actors like Christian Bale, Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, Morgan Freeman, Anne Hathaway, and many more. Nolan's Batman movies also gave the chance for younger actors to get a major credit early on, and one of those was none other than Powell.
Talking to DiscussingFilm, Powell commented on his scene with Tom Hardy's Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.

The new DC Universe will officially begin soon, yet there are still 7 lingering questions regarding its canon and that of its predecessor, the DC Extended Universe. The old Dceu, which began with 2013’s Man of Steel, will end with the upcoming Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, making way for the first Dcu television series, Creature Commandos, and the first Dcu movie, Superman: Legacy, in 2024 and 2025, respectively. The full extent of the forthcoming reboot, what parts of the canon will remain unchanged, and which familiar faces from the Dceu will return in the Dcu remain to be explained.
Following the merger of Warner Bros and Discovery, James Gunn and Peter Safran were appointed as the co-CEOs of DC Studios. Gunn and Safran soon canceled the Dceu’s planned future installments and began working on a rebooted Dcu. As explained in the reveal of the Dcu slate, Gunn considers...

Batman never faced his own villains in the Dceu, which left him feeling misused and sidelined in the franchise. James Gunn's Dcu reboot presents an opportunity to address the underused and unpopular elements of the Dceu, including the mishandling of Ben Affleck's Batman. Batman's lack of his own villain and being out of his depth among powered heroes like Superman weakened his role and prevented him from shining in the Dceu.
The Dceu has officially concluded, but in doing so never gave Batman a chance to face one of his own villains. Ben Affleck's Batman appeared in several movies throughout the Dceu timeline, however, he was never given a solo movie, and only ever faced other hero's adversaries. Consequently, Batman felt rather misused in the franchise.

James Gunn's DC Universe spans everything from movies to TV, games and animation. Above all else, animation could be the key to helping the Dcu and Justice League succeed. The past has proven how important animation is to the Justice League and what elements are necessary for it to work in the new Dcu.
Fans are excited about the prospects of James Gunn's DC Universe, starting with 2025's Superman: Legacy. Dcu Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters lays the foundation for the franchise by introducing several key members. This includes Justice League members like Superman, Batman, and Green Lantern.

Momoa's Aquaman has become a fan favorite and changed public perception of the character, making it challenging to replace him. The Dcu could choose to cut Aquaman from its Chapter One entirely due to the difficulty of finding an actor who can match or surpass Momoa's portrayal. A new Justice League roster could solve the problem by allowing Aquaman to spend time away from the big screen and building anticipation for a different take on the character in the future.
Jason Momoa's Aquaman presents the biggest Justice League problem that the new DC Universe will have to try to resolve. One of Batman's most defining traits over the decades has been his innate ability to prepare for any situation. As a result, any enemy of Batman might be shocked at how resourceful the vigilante is, as there's little to no room for surprises in his war against crime. Yet, some stories show a more realistic take on the character that has played up the humanity of the character and the reality that no one can be as skilled and resourceful as Batman. This world was where Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy thrived, offering a critical look at the man behind the cowl.
Batman Begins is a traditional Batman story about a man with a desire to clean up his city, moving forward with his obsession and becoming a shadowy hero. But unlike stories that propped Batman up on a pedestal, The Dark Knight Trilogy showed a version of...

James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe has promised a new and exciting world for the characters to inhabit. But rather than tether itself to a string of movies leading to a big team-up, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe had, the Dcu is trying something more akin to Star Wars.

The massive revamp of the Dcu franchise, which is being orchestrated by acclaimed director James Gunn, is a huge move in one of the most lucrative niches of the film industry that's undoubtedly being closely watched by fans, be it those of the comics and/or those who liked at least some of the previous cinematic adaptations. 2023's Blue Beetle is one of the final DC Universe movies set to release before Gunn and Safran's vision for the franchise begins in earnest, and the character of Jaime Reyes, from his origins to his superpowers, isn't as well-known as many other DC heroes. A film adaptation surrounding the DC Comics character of Blue Beetle was announced back in 2018. Since then, the film has undergone some changes, with the production initially planned for HBO Max under Walter Hamada's Warner Bros. leadership.
Blue Beetle is now set to release in the United States in theaters on August 18, 2023. The film is interesting in the wider case of the DC Universe, as it is one of the few that has the opportunity to straddle both the old Dceu and James Gunn's revamped Dcu. The new DC Universe from James Gunn and Peter Safran will be starting in earnest soon, and there's already both confirmed and rumored talent tied to various projects. After the tumultuous production of the Dceu at Warner Bros., beginning with 2013's Man of Steel, DC on film has proven controversial. Despite a few critical darlings, the wider franchise never seemed to find its footing. As recently as mid 2022, casting announcements and subsequent cancellations painted a murky picture for the DC Universe.
However, the latter half of 2022 brought some clarity to the future of DC on film when it was announced that James Gunn and Peter Safran would be spearheading an all-but-rebooted franchise labeled the Dcu. Since Gunn and Safran's announcements surrounding Chapter 1 of the Dcu - Gods and Monsters - were revealed, the big questions were who would be playing DC's iconic heroes and which filmmakers would be responsible for bringing their stories to life.

There's a sizable collection of actors who have appeared in both James Gunn's Marvel and DC movies and shows, and the list will continue to grow with upcoming films such as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. With Gunn having crossed over from the MCU to the Dcu and back again in recent years, he's also brought a handful of actors along for the ride. As such, it's always a lot of fun to spot those who're part of Gunn's consistent circle, regardless of whether the actors' roles are large or small.
Many of these actors have been friends of the accomplished director/producer for years, having starred in previous movies beyond Gunn's Marvel and DC work. Likewise, some actors came to impress Gunn so much that they were brought on for subsequent projects. While certain actors are family and have become dedicated parts of Gunn's work, one casting came entirely by accident.
