Disney is bringing back the fan-favorite Star Wars Galactic Nights this December to celebrate the release of The Last Jedi. The Star Wars-themed event was a big hit last year at the Florida theme park, so it was decided to bring back the after-hours party to eat lightsaber churros and party with Darth Vader. With less than 100 days to go before The Last Jedi comes to theaters, excitement is through the roof.
Galactic Nights premiered at Hollywood Studios this past April during Star Wars Celebration Orlando as a special one-time event filled with Star Wars celebrities, a scavenger hunt, and even the first appearance of Rey during the Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away show. StarWars.com has announced that Galactic Nights will be coming back one more time (until the release of Star Wars 9), December 16th, the day after the release of The Last Jedi and tickets are now on sale.

During the “Star Wars and Disney Parks: A Galaxy in the Making” panel at Star Wars Celebration this past weekend, a behind-the-scenes video was shown to fans in attendance. It gives us a look at what the creative team at Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Imagineering are currently creating for us and offers some new details. Their goal is to make sure that Star Wars fans have one of the greatest Star Wars experiences ever.
"Unusual characters from across the galaxy have landed here, preferring the 'no questions asked' environment as well as easy access to exotic supplies and an abundant supply of ready rogues looking to join a crew for their next adventure."
Lucasfilm and Disney are creating a place that is an extension of the Star Wars universe. It's explained that it has its own story and they say it will enhance the Star Wars franchise.

This past week, fans were excited to learn that Disney Parks is building life-sized At-At Walkers at Disneyland. The news wasn't confirmed, but fan video showed the construction of these iconic Star Wars vehicles. Now, Disney Parks has officially released a video that shows these attractions under construction in the middle of Star Wars Land. They had this to say about the unveiling.
"We're excited to share an update today on the progress of the Star Wars-themed lands being created at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts! With so much activity across our 14-acre construction sites as this new world is created, we wanted to show you how things are shaping up in this exclusive video, and you may not believe what you're looking At-at."

Last month, Disney announced that its highly-anticipated Star Wars Land theme parks will open at both DisneyWorld and Disneyland resorts in the year 2019, which will likely coincide with the release of Star Wars: Episode IX. Construction is currently under way at the Disneyland location, with a number of fans capturing new video and photos, with the construction site visible from Disneyland's Mickey and Friends Parking Structure. While there isn't much to be gleaned from these videos, two unique structures seem to indicate that the theme park is building real-life At-at Walkers.
Disney Geek debuted a two minute video over the weekend, which, at the thirty-second mark, reveals two structures that appear to be the frame for At-at Walkers, although the view is partially obstructed. A Twitter used dubbed "MouseInfo" got a much better, unobstructed view, which shows both structures, which are strikingly similar to the top of an At-at Walker.

Disney's D23 Expo rolled through Anaheim this weekend, and while all of the upcoming movies, both animated and live-action, were shown off at the convention center in grand fashion, the biggest announcement of the event came when Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek arrived to unveil the new Star Wars-themed lands coming to Disneyland park in Anaheim, California and Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. This is one of the biggest projects Disney parks has ever taken on, and it promises to be monumental. The Millennium Falcon is one of the most iconic spaceships in movie history. Though, you might not get the full sense of its scale from the teaser photos released.

C-3Po is back in the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII," and for a very brief period there was talk that actor Anthony Daniels would not be in the suit - rather he'd only provide the voice.
In a new and lengthy interview with Entertainment Weekly, Daniels says he shot that idea down quickly. In fact he never wants the character to be represented in CG again following some rather dodgy shots of him as such in the prequels:
"I will tell you that when [director] J.J. Abrams rang me to ask about filming Star Wars: Episode VII, one of the first things he said after he told me how wonderful I was - and that didn't take long - but he then said, 'Would you be interested in being in the film just doing the voice?' I said, 'No,' and he said, 'Right!'
He knew I'd say that.

Anthony Daniels is a staple in the Star Wars universe. He's the man that brought C-3Po to life, and he's reprising the iconic robotic role in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII. In a recent interview with EW, the actor talked about coming back for the role and how it all came about. He also discussed the new and improved suit that he will be wearing in the movie. Don't worry! They haven't changed the look of the droid, they just made a costume that was more comfortable for him to wear. He talks about all of this stuff in the following quote:
"I will tell you that when [director] J.J. Abrams rang me to ask about filming Episode VII, one of the first things he said after he told me how wonderful I was — and that didn’t take long — but he then said, 'Would you be interested...

R2-D2 and C-3Po in Star Wars: Rebels via
Sometimes you gotta wonder if this will end up being 9 movies about two droids. Yes, C-3Po and R2-D2 are in Star Wars: Rebels on Disney Xd, bridging the gap between Episodes III and IV in animated fashion. The droids with the most will also be returning in Jj Abrams' Episode VII to continue the legacy.
Entertainment Weekly sat down with Anthony Daniels, who always portrays C-3Po, even when he's a puppet or a digital effect, to talk to him about getting back in the metallic suit for a new film while also providing his voice to the cartoon series. You should read the whole, long, thing here - Anthony Daniels is not brief in his answering, but two particular answers stuck out to me in regards to Episode VII and Star Wars: Rebels.

If you were wondering whether the new C3PO will be CGI, or if Anthony Daniels is crawling back into that metallic suit on set, the man himself has provided the answer. He will be putting on the iconic costume once again, this time for director J.J. Abrams in Star Wars: Episode VII.
When J.J. Abrams called the actor to return for the movie, it was originally for a voice role only. Anthony Daniels explains how that transpired into what he is currently shooting, describing the new C3PO suit along the way, and why it's important that C3PO never be CGI again in a movie:

After 35 years, Star Wars casts an ever-growing pop-culture shadow. Though the anniversary of the release of the original Star Wars falls on May 25, devotees of that galaxy far, far away have designated May 4, as in “May the 4th Be With You,” as the official day to party like a drunken Ewok. If you’re a diehard Star Wars fanatic, today would be the day to consider what an impact George Lucas’ space opera has had not only on J.J. Abrams, Joss Whedon, the guys at Pixar, and even Lady Gaga, but also on science, philosophy, and politics.

Now may be the perfect time to look back at the highs and lows for the event that brought all divisions of the Disney company under one roof. The Disney D23 Expo was a fun-filled, beyond busy three days for anybody who attended, but of course, it was not without some flaws. Among the major successes, and there were many, a number of kinks that made the first expo somewhat troublesome continued into the 2011 event. Let’s start out on a more positive note, as this week in the Mouse House I will share my thoughts on the terrific aspects of the ultimate Disney fan event. Without any further ado, let’s dive into the positive parts.

At the 2009 D23 Expo in September 2009, Disney announced exciting news that die-hard Star Wars fans had long been waiting to hear. After over two decades, one of the most beloved attractions at the theme parks would be receiving an upgrade. Star Tours would be closing for an extensive re-imagining – not just your typical refurbishment with some upgrades, but in a way, a complete overhaul to update this 80s-era thrill ride to the 21st century. When Star Tours first opened at Disneyland back in 1987, Disney and Lucas aimed to add new destinations every few years or so. Various reasons contributed to pushing the frequent updates further off in time. However, once Star Wars Episode I neared opening in theatres in 1999, and the following two films began development, Disney decided to take another look at updating Star Tours, as they could now incorporate elements from this new trilogy into a more fresh attraction.

Star Tours: The Adventures Continue has recently launched at Disneyland, and to help promote this rebooted ride, Star Wars universe creator and director George Lucas made an appearance on G4's Attack of the Show, where he talked exclusively about the 3D conversion of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, and why the live action Untitled Star Wars TV Series is still being delayed.
When asked why we should trust that his Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace in 3D is going to be better than the recent 3D converted films that we have seen, this is what George Lucas had to say.
"We got into the 3D field a long time ago. We've worked for years and years to build a group of people who could do this in an economic, reasonable time frame. It wasn't until the last few years that we achieved that.

George Lucas appeared on G4′s Attack of the Show in honor of the opening of Star Tours: The Adventures Continue. He discussed the upcoming Star Wars 3D theatrical releases, and revealed why the long-rumored live action TV series has taken so long.

Lucas first talked about the Star Wars 3D, saying that the post-conversion process used is better than all of the 3D post-conversions seen in theaters now. The technology is finally to the place where Lucas wanted. What sets this post-conversion apart, is that Lucas has the same crew that helped make the original films assisting in the post-conversion, bringing a higher level of expertise to the process.

While George Lucas pushes one cinematic technology, 3D, another is holding back a highly anticipated project. The iconic filmmaker recently appeared on G4's Attack of the Show to talk about the opening of Star Tours: The Adventures Continue and discussed not only the upcoming 3D Star Wars theatrical releases, but the reason for the delay with the long-rumored live action television series. Some sites are reporting that Lucas has "50 hours already filmed" and that's just silly. They have about 50 hours of the show conceptualized and partially written but, as we reported almost a year ago [1], it won't actually be made until they can figure out a way to do it at a fraction of the cost. The goal is to go to work when movies that now cost $200 million can be made for $50 million. Lucas also did his best to explain why his 3D post-conversion process on the Star Wars...

In case you hadn't noticed, we're a little Star Tours obsessed [1] here on /Film. As Star Wars fans, the original ride was usually the highlight of an already awesome trip to Disney and now, the fact that they're updating it with state of the art 3D effects and 54 variable stories featuring a ton of classic locations [2] and characters [3], is almost too cool for words. In tracking the progress [4] of the ride, officially called Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, opening May 20 at Walt Disney World in Florida and June 3 at Disneyland in California, one of the questions has always been, how does that variable story scenario work? Anthony Daniels - C-3Po himself - has now dropped a bunch of details both on his role in the ride, some hints of what to expect and explained the variable nature of the whole thing. Think "slot machine." Read what he had to say below.

Glad you returned back to the Mouse House. As many readers can easily observe, one main focus of this Disney column is to cover Disney’s wide array of music, from touching upon the electric score of Tron: Legacy to highlighting the more overlooked songs in the catalogue. Today, I wanted to shift gears – or should I say, ears – and set the lens on the fantastic music found within the (domestic) Disney theme parks. No formal list here, just take some notice to a handful of the best scores/melodies and songs within Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. It looks like Star Wars toys are more popular than ever, and George Lucas selling out to the Toy industry is paying off for him. In 2010 Star Wars toys brought in $510 million freakin' dollars!
This is the highest Star Wars toy revenue ever for a non-movie year, and the best toy revenue since Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith was released. According to Lucasfilm and research firm Npd Group Star Wars maintained its position as the bestselling boys toy license in the U.S. for the third consecutive year.
Of course the popularity of animated TV series Clone Wars doesn't hurt the cause. President of Lucas Licensing Howard Roffman had this to say in a statement,
Around the office, our mantra is that Star Wars is forever, and we continue to see that this is true for our loyal fans. We’ve got a great series on the air,...

Another year, another billion, or so it seems for George Lucas. A man, before whom, cinema goers had never heard attributed that most nauseating and pernicious of words associated with any film, namely, “franchise.”
It’s hard to believe that, in the 1970s, with Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, he was regarded among the most promising film-makers of his generation. For those who haven’t seen his debut feature, THX1138, it is hard to describe the shock that the paradigm shift of what constitutes a “George Lucas Film,” elicits upon first viewing. A small scale, profoundly original, dystopic and conceptually elevated science-fiction, the history of Lucas’ career, and modern film-making generally, would be profoundly different had it been a commercial success.
In 2011, however, Lucas’ name is synonymous with the unabashed ubiquitous commercialisation for which films merely serve as multi-million dollar adverts. The toys, lunch boxes, t shirts...

[1] Disney has finally announced that the new Star Wars' Star Tours: The Adventures Continue attraction will open at its Hollywood Studios theme park at Walt Disney World resort on May 20th 2011. Also, LucasFilm has finally disclosed the release date of the upcoming Star Wars Blu-Rays. When the sets were announced [2], we were told "September 2011," but not an actual day. We now know that the sets will arrive on September 27th 2011. Previously: Star Tours: The Adventures Continues includes an entirely new 3D version [3] of the ride, which will include locations and characters from both the original trilogy (Chewbacca, c-3Po, R2-D2, Aqualish. Bith, Rodians, etc) and prequel trilogy (like Naboo citizens and Geonosians) as it takes place after the events of Revenge of the Sith and before A New Hope. One action sequence will feature the Star Tours vehicle is now going to be chased by Boba Fett,...

2010 has concluded, and for the next two weeks, the Mouse House will explore the highs and lows for The Walt Disney Company over the past year. This time around, I choose my ten favorites (ears), whereas next week’s will feature my ten least favorites (sneers). Of course, any of these options can be debated, so post your thoughts away in the comments section below. So without any further ado, here are the best of the best (in my opinion).
#10 – Mickey Mouse finally speaks to (a few) guests
The Big Cheese has always been the silent type in the theme parks (he’s not a “face character” like Belle or Mad Hatter, who talk to guests), but everything changed earlier in 2010 when Disney unveiled a chatty Mickey. Although this type of character interaction is in its infancy (Talking Mickey has only appeared a few times), this shows the marvels of...

Welcome home to the Mouse House. Today’s Disney Gazette will begin a new recurring series that will mash together highlights of recent news from The Walt Disney Company.
Box Office Updates
Secretariat raced into theaters on Oct. 8, grossing approximately $12.7 million. Not the strongest opening, but a movie receiving critical acclaim like this will surely have some legs. In its second weekend, the sports drama dipped only 25% to $9.5 million. As of Oct. 18, its total earnings come to just shy of $28 million. Expect to see it close at around $55 million.
Meanwhile, the poorly-rated Touchstone production You Again has only reached $23 million in its fourth weekend. Despite Betty White’s recent comeback, even her loyal fans didn’t show up for this comedy. This marks Kristen Bell’s second film for the company this year after the disappointing When in Rome, which grossed about $32 million when it opened back in January.

As we've reported in the past, the classic Star Tours Disney ride is currently in the process of being upgraded to Star Tours 2.0, which is set to open up in May of 2011. As many of you know, the old ride was very outdated and definitely needed a reboot.
Above and below you will find photos from the set of the production which secretly took place back in April of 2009. We have a picture of Anthony Daniels holding his C-3Po head, and of the Starspeeder 1000.
It was reported that the "revamp will incorporate prequel characters (like Naboo citizens and Geonosians) along with many aliens from the original trilogy (Aqualish. Bith, Rodians, etc). In the action sequence, the Star Tours vehicle is now going to be chased by Boba Fett. C3PO and R2-D2 are still the hosts… Admiral Ackbar holographically communicates with the Star Tours vehicle."

Say what you want about the Star Wars prequels, but they totally changed the face of Star Wars. And nowhere was this more evident over the past decade than Disneyland and Walt Disney World where the Star Tours ride was still going strong. The ride, which opened in 1987, not only felt dated in context of the Star Wars universe, but the technology of the ride itself was certainly not modern enough for a franchise that's synonymous with technology. So, when news broke that Star Tours 2.0 would be opening in May 2011, it was more than welcome. Before that announcement came, though, we reported that a secret Star Wars shoot was happening in Hollywood in April 2009. That shoot ended up being for Star Tours 2.0 and Disney has finally revealed photos of what went down. Check them out after the jump. In April 2009, Anthony Daniels - aka ...

Our own Edgar 'El Toro' Arce tweeted this promotional video to me that is the new promo for the Star Tours II attraction opening next year at Disneyland and Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida. The video shows off three different vacation packages which leads me to believe there are going to be three different tours available, which really helps with wanting to go on the ride more than once. I was never a fan of the original Star Tours. I thought it had no place being in Disneyland and was just another way for Lucas to sell more merch while giving us a poor excuse for a motion ride. (At least Indiana Jones was done right. When it's operable.)While I'm glad to see the old Star Tours gone, I'm curious if the rumored Tattoine podracer sequence from Episode I is still going to be part of the attraction. Perhaps...
