The Gray Man

Charlize Theron’s 24% Rotten Tomatoes Action Sequel Loses Top Spot on Streaming Charts 1 Week After Netflix Debut
Image
The concept of the Netflix blockbuster is an ever-changing one. The streamer has been criticized for homogenizing the tent pole experience, and for forgoing theatrical releases almost entirely. This has led to the production of films such as Red Notice, 6 Underground, The Gray Man, and The Electric State. Each of those movies was supposed to spawn a franchise, but none of them has. At least, not yet. However, two titles in the first batch of Netflix tent poles — Extraction and The Old Guard — both managed to stand out, which is perhaps why they were granted sequels. The Old Guard 2 debuted earlier this month after an unexpectedly long delay, but it was met with poor reviews and, seemingly, a lack of interest from audiences.

The movie has already lost its number one spot on the Netflix viewership charts, which is almost unheard of for a film of its size.

Bridgerton star charts television return in Apple TV+ series based on bestseller
Image
It's been a while since we saw Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page on the small screen. Since his breakthrough role in the smash-hit Netflix original romantic drama series, which he only starred in for its debut season, Page moved away from television to build a film career. He's starred in the likes of The Gray Man, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, and Black Bag.

But we could soon see the erstwhile Duke back on the small screen. No, he hasn't finally agreed to make an appearance in an upcoming season of Bridgerton, but Regé-Jean Page might star in another romantic series based on a best-selling novel. According to Deadline, Page will executive produce and possible star in an adaptation of Funny You Should Ask by Elissa Sussman on Apple TV+.

Regé-Jean Page Set To Exec Produce, Poised To Star In ‘Funny You Should Ask’ Series Adaptation In Works At Apple From Tomorrow Studios
Image
Exclusive: In a competitive situation, Apple has landed for development a TV series based on Elissa Sussman’s best-selling novel Funny You Should Ask, with Regé-Jean Page and his producing partner Emily Brown executive producing through their A Mighty Stranger Production banner, Deadline has learned. The intention is for Page to star in the Tomorrow Studios project, which is now in early stages, with Rachel Alter writing the adaptation, sources said.

A rep for Apple declined comment.

Published in 2022, Funny You Should Ask is a love story that centers on a restless young journalist with big dreams who interviews a Hollywood heartthrob – and then reunites with him ten years later to discover exactly how he feels about her.

In an element of art imitating life, the movie star in the book — the role Page is poised to play — is the latest James Bond. Brit Page himself has...

Heads Of State and streaming’s love of martial arts
Image
Although they don’t advertise it, action thrillers like Prime Video’s Heads Of State and Netflix’s The Old Guard 2 owe a clear debt to the martial arts films of the previous century…

On a farm in a remote part of Belarus, the British Prime Minister and the United States of America are in the middle of a punch-up with a gang of young-ish thugs wearing tracksuits. Both leaders are big chaps, but they’re outnumbered and older than their opponents; their victory ultimately comes as much from pure luck as their strength. The fight reaches its comedic zenith with one goon left hopelessly coiled up in barbed wire while another’s set on fire by a stray cigarette.

This is Heads Of State, director Ilya Naishuller’s enjoyably daft action thriller which emerged on Prime Video on the 2nd July (you can listen to our extended interview...

Chris Pratt's 53% Sci-Fi That Critics Claim Was "Bored With Itself" Is a Sleeper Hit on Streaming
Image
It might not have impressed critics when it first dropped, but Chris Pratt's The Tomorrow War is finding new life on streaming — again. The $200 million sci-fi action blockbuster, once called “bored with itself” by critics, has stormed back into the HBO Max Top 25, years after it became the most expensive direct-to-streaming release of its time. Originally produced by Paramount and offloaded to Prime Video in 2021, The Tomorrow War was a major move in the early streaming wars, landing with a thunderous $200M price tag and huge expectations. Now, it’s doing numbers all over again — with data confirming the film surged back into the HBO Max Top 10 as recently as June 25.

So what’s driving this renewed interest in a movie that debuted to a lukewarm 51% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes? For starters, the premise still slaps: Pratt plays a high school teacher who’s drafted into a war...

Image

HBO Max has welcomed The Tomorrow War with open arms, giving the sci-fi spectacle a fresh boost years after its original debut. The film, where Chris Pratt’s character is pulled into a future war against aliens, found itself climbing HBO Max’s viewership charts on June 25, landing in the 10th spot. This marks the second surge in interest in a single week, especially across several European countries, helping the movie rack up over 700 points on FlixPatrol this month alone.

Paramount Struggles Lead To Big Streaming Deals

Paramount’s troubles have been dragging on, with the studio often forced to sell big titles to streaming platforms. Movies like Coming 2 America ended up on Prime Video, while Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F went straight to Netflix. According to Collider, Paramount offloaded The Tomorrow War to Prime Video back in 2021 for a massive price,...

Chris Pratt’s $200 Million Action Film Becomes a Sleeper Hit After Being Dropped Onto Streaming
Image
Paramount's troubles are showing no signs of ending, with the mega-budget Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning struggling to meet astronomical expectations in its theatrical run. Chris Evans movies and TV shows, ranked worst to best
Image
Though he will likely forever be associated with his work as Captain America, Chris Evans the actor has become much more than simply the good guy behind the colorful shield. Just when you think you can peg him as an action star, Evans turns around and simply nails it in genre after genre -- romance ("The Nanny Diaries"), mystery ("Knives Out"), comedy ("Scott Pilgrim vs. the World") and drama ("Gifted"). And when future Oscar-winning director Bong Joon Ho needed a hero for his first English-language film, he turned to Evans for "Snowpiercer." When Evans tried his hand in other media, he scored again, gathering much acclaim for the Apple TV+ limited series "Defending Jacob" and earning a Drama Desk nomination for his Broadway debut in Kenneth Lonergan's play "Lobby Hero."

He has provided the voice for the title character in Pixar's "Lightyear," the origin story of the beloved...

Ryan Gosling’s Favorite Comedy Was Once Critically Panned — Here’s Why It’s Now A Cult Favorite!
Image
What Is Ryan Gosling’s Favorite Comedy Movie?(Photo Credit –YouTube)

Ryan Gosling could’ve said Casablanca. He could’ve said Citizen Kane. But no, he picked Step Brothers. While chatting with Still Watching Netflix to promote The Gray Man two years ago, Gosling dropped the kind of cinematic confession that instantly earns him honorary couch potato status.

“You tell people your favorite movie is On the Waterfront when it’s really Step Brothers,” the Barbie star admitted. And frankly, that’s a good take. Let’s break that down: Step Brothers, a film once described by critics as a chaotic mess with juvenile humor, is Gosling’s go-to feel-good flick.

“You could be in a bad place in your life, you could be in a great place in your life, it’s always the right time,” he said during the chat. And just like that, he gave us the...

‘Lilo & Stitch’ Crawls Past the Russo Brothers’ First MCU Movie at International Box Office
Image
It's no secret that Joe and Anthony Russo have had a rough time after their (first) stint with Marvel Studios ended in 2019. It's also no secret that they re-energized the franchise when they originally signed on over a decade ago, and delivered some of its most successful (and acclaimed) movies. The Russos' made their MCU debut back in 2014, with the hit film Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Betting on them was a huge swing on Disney's part, considering their experience was largely in television, and that, too, in sitcoms. The studio is currently celebrating the success of its latest release, Lilo & Stitch, which is poised to enter the $1 billion mark at the global box office. On its way to passing that benchmark, it overtook The Winter Soldier internationally.

Lilo & Stitchhas grossed over $850 million worldwide so far, of which around $460 million has come from international markets. By comparison, The Winter Soldier...

When Dhanush Was Set To Star In The Gray Man Sequel & Spin-Off — Is It Too Late Now?
Image
Dhanush In The Gray Man ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

The action thriller movie The Gray Man, directed by Russo Brothers, was released on Netflix on July 22, 2022, and reportedly clocked a whopping 88.55 million hours in its first three days. Although the film, starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans in the lead roles, received mixed reviews from critics, Dhanush’s performance as the Lone Wolf struck the right chord with the audience.

Just a few days after the film’s release, it was reported (via The Times of India) that a sequel was in the works in which Dhanush was supposed to reprise his role. It was also being anticipated that a Dhanush-centric spin-off was in the cards. So, the question is: is it too late now for that story to be told, or is there a slim chance it could still happen? Here’s why we think these projects might never take off.

Two big stars unexpectedly cast in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars
Image
Marvel Studios is working towards its next "endgame". Just as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's 11-year long Infinity Saga concluded with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, the Multiverse Saga looks to do the same with the upcoming double-finale of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. And to say audiences are ready would be a major understatement.

The first of those two upcoming movies already features a star-studded cast, as the studio unveiled at least 27 major names set to appear in the film. Among those stars are Thor star Chris Hemsworth, Captain America star Anthony Mackie, Shang-Chi star Simu Liu, the casts of Thunderbolts*, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and even returnees from the original X-Men movie series - most of whom are set to make their MCU debut in the film. And they all join Robert Downey Jr. who returns to the legendary franchise in the new role of villain Doctor Doom.

Marvel Studios Reportedly Wants Ryan Gosling for Phase 6’s Biggest MCU Movie (Rumor)
Image
Marvel Studios might be eyeing Ryan Gosling for a major role in Phase 6's biggest movie, Avengers: Doomsday. The fan-favorite actor has starred in plenty of iconic movies, such as The Notebook, The Fall Guy, Drive, Blade Runner 2049, The Gray Man, and the list goes on. Chris Evans & Pedro Pascal's New Romance Movie Debuts To Promising Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal's new romance movie debuts to a promising Rotten Tomatoes score. Evans is best known for playing Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, debuting in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger and exiting after 2019's Avengers: Endgame. Since exiting the MCU, his career has suffered significantly – starring in a series of poorly received movies such as The Gray Man, Ghosted, Pain Hustlers, and Red One – though he's looking to rebound with his upcoming roles in Ethan Coen's Honey Don't! and other movies.

Pascal, on the other hand, has enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent years, and he's only due for an even bigger breakout with his upcoming roles. Following the blockbuster Gladiator II and his Emmy-nominated performance as Joel in HBO's The Last of Us, Pascal stars in A24's Eddington releasing on July 18, makes his MCU debut as Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps...

Not Another Teen Movie Cast: Where The Actors Are Now
Image
When "Not Another Teen Movie" hit theaters late in 2001, it was riding the wave of two convergent genre booms. First, there was the burgeoning spoof craze that had been kicked off the year before by "Scary Movie." The 2000s would be full of them, eventually petering out late in the decade with low-effort flops like "Meet the Spartans," "Vampires Suck," and "Epic Movie." Second, "Not Another Teen Movie" benefited from taking aim at years of teen comedies that had overtaken the box office. The movie parodies '90s favorites like "She's All That," "American Pie," and "10 Things I Hate About You," and it even finds time to reference earlier teen movies like "Pretty in Pink" and "The Breakfast Club." (After all, everything takes place at John Hughes High School).

Unlike many 2000s spoof movies, most of which were forgotten as quickly as they premiered, "Not Another Teen Movie" has had some immense cultural staying power.

‘From the World of John Wick: Ballerina’ Review: A Thrilling John Wick Spinoff Featuring Ana de Armas in Her Engaging Lead Performance
Image
After four successful John Wick movies under the direction of Chad Stahelski, a change of director seems like a logical move to potentially give the film franchise a fresh perspective. But attaching Len Wiseman onboard for Ballerina – officially titled From the World of John Wick: Ballerina – doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. Although he did well in the first two stylish B-movie action horror in Underworld and Underworld: Evolution, his subsequent transition to big-budget studio pictures including Live Free or Die Hard a.k.a. Die Hard 4.0 and Total Recall reboot were basically all style but little substance.

It didn’t help either when Ballerina was plagued by reshoots and a delay on its release, originally due last June but pushed back for a full year. Still, whatever that’s been going on behind the scenes, I remain hopeful for Ballerina to emerge as a worthy addition to the John Wick franchise.

Ballerina Reviews: What Are Critics Saying About Ana de Armas’ Action Sequences?
Image
After the incredible success of the John Wick movies, the franchise has moved on to the story of Eve, a ballerina-assassin training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma. As the overall fifth film of the universe, Ballerina stars Ana de Armas in the lead role. Of course, there is no doubt that the actress is brilliant in her craft. With movies like The Gray Man and Ghosted in her roster, she has established herself as a force to be reckoned with.

The thing with spin-offs, though, is that they don’t usually work out quite like the makers would hope. John Wick is a phenomenon in itself, and going out of their way to expand the assassin universe to tell more stories was a risk in itself. However, it looks like the risk has paid off, especially if we consider early reviews for Ballerina.

Ballerina might be a...

Ballerina’s Rotten Tomatoes Score Upholds John Wick Legacy Amid Alleged Censorship Of Negative Reviews
Image
Ballerina & John Wick(Photo Credit –Instagram/Facebook)

Ana de Armas has stepped into the John Wick universe with and as Ballerina. The spin-off feature has finally revealed its critical reception after Lionsgate lifted the review embargo. With a Rotten Tomatoes score reflecting the franchise’s signature action-packed quality, the film proves it can stand tall alongside Keanu Reeves’ iconic series. But does it live up to the John Wick legacy, or is it merely a gender-swapped retread? And what’s the controversy surrounding its censorship of negative reviews? Let’s dive in.

Ballerina Wins Over Critics With Grit & Grace

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina has landed a respectable 77% on Rotten Tomatoes. Based on 69 reviews, with 53 critics giving it a thumbs-up, the actioner has the certified fresh badge for now. While the score could shift as more reviews roll in, it marks a strong debut for Ana de...

Ballerina
Image
Let’s rewind to 2021. In only ten minutes of screen-time, Ana de Armas, playing the supporting role of CIA agent Paloma in No Time To Die, stole the show, kicking Spectre ass alongside Daniel Craig in spectacular style. It was the first indicator that she was primed for action-hero greatness. And though roles in The Gray Man and Ghosted followed, it’s only now with Ballerina — a spin-off set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4 — that that early promise has come into full bloom. And not a moment too soon. For make no mistake: the John Wick franchise now has another force to be reckoned with.

Once again, vengeance is the name of the game. Mercifully, no dogs are harmed this time around. When her father is murdered, Eve Macarro (de Armas) is set on a bloody path; that path includes rigorous training in...

Captain America Actor Chris Evans Jokes That Recent Movie Roles Have Ruined His Acting Career
Image
Chris Evans bid farewell to Captain America in 2019's Avengers: Endgame. With the MCU behind him, the actor impressed everyone with a villainous turn in Rian Johnson's Knives Out, but it was (mostly) all downhill from there.

Pixar's Lightyear was fun, but underperformed. The Gray Man (which co-starred Ryan Gosling and was directed by the Russo Brothers) was widely considered a big budget disappointment, and Ghosted, Pain Hustlers, and Red One received similarly negative reviews.

Like Spider-Man actor Tom Holland, Evans has struggled to recapture the same success in Hollywood that he's had as a superhero. However, Materialists—which also stars Pedro Pascal and Dakota Johnson—may be a return to form for the actor.

The trio was asked about whether they'd rather relive their most awkward interview moments or have the ability to choose each other's movies, prompting Evans to joke, "I'd always put you [both] in the movies I'm doing.

With Fountain Of Youth, Apple TV+ Has Finally Made Its First Netflix Movie (And That's Not A Good Thing)
Image
At first glance, "Fountain of Youth," Guy Ritchie's new action-adventure film made for Apple TV+, looks like a fun, family-friendly romp about an intrepid explorer and thief named Luke Purdue (John Krasinski), who recruits his sister Charlotte (Natalie Portman) to join him on a quest to find the mythical "fountain of youth." Joined by Charlotte's son Thomas (Benjamin Chivers), a billionaire seeking the fountain to cure his terminal cancer named Owen Carter (Domhnall Gleeson), Luke's old accomplices Deb McCall and Patrick Murphy (Carmen Egojo and Laz Alonso), and a competing explorer/thief named Esme (Eiza González) who keeps tracking Luke, they all set out to find the fountain that's been mentioned across continents and cultures for centuries.

This sounds at least a little promising. The end result is anything but. "Fountain of Youth" is a slog that stretches for 2 hours and 5 interminable minutes, stranding Krasinski, Portman, Gleeson, and all...

The First Ballerina Reactions Are All Saying The Same Thing (And There's A Reason For That)
Image
Update: Writer Matt Goldberg has published the following post on Bluesky: "Just spoke with a rep at Brigade, a PR firm working with Lionsgate, who acknowledged that 'enthusiasm' was the wrong word to use for the social embargo and that they meant to stress more the 'spoiler-free' aspect. Do with that what you will." Our original article continues below.

"Ballerina," the fifth official film in the "John Wick" saga, is two weeks out from release, which means the gun-fu faithful are itching to find out how Ana de Armas measures up to Keanu Reeves as a high-caliber badass assassin. De Armas solidified her action bona fides as the deadly Cuban secret agent Paloma in "No Time to Die," and did nothing to suggest her sleek lethality was a fluke in the Russo Brothers' distracted-viewing product "The Gray Man," so it won't qualify as a revelation if she aces this assignment.

Andor’s Diego Luna’s MCU Fan Casting: Kevin Feige Doesn’t Need Ryan Gosling to Make Ghost Rider Great Again
Image
“Some men just want to watch the world burn,” said Alfred in The Dark Knight. But Ghost Rider? He is the fire. And not every pretty face can wear those chains without singeing the soul beneath. While the Marvel fandom continues its ceremonial chanting for Ryan Gosling to grab that flaming skull, fans find themselves leaning toward a different kind of inferno… quieter, deeper, and far more dangerous: Diego Luna.

Sure, Gosling can wear neon and nostalgia like a second skin (just look at Barbie), but Ghost Rider needs a different sort of fever. One that’s quiet, clawing, and tragic. The MCU doesn’t need another poster boy. It needs a haunted man. Luna, the voice of rebellion in Andor, already walks the line between salvation and damnation.

'John Wick' Spinoff Star Ana de Armas Set to Appear in Tom Cruise Action Thriller 'Deeper'
Image
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and Ballerina are two movies guaranteed to heat up the box office this summer, but the respective stars of these action thrillers have been heating up headlines with weeks of rumors about their relationship. Now, according to Deadline, it looks like we know why Tom Cruise and Ana De Armas have been spending so much time together, as they are set to star together in Cruise's long-gestating supernatural action thriller, Deeper.

The film, being helmed by frequent Cruise collaborator Doug Liman, has been in the works for almost a decade, with not much movement at all until recently. Now it looks like the Edge of Tomorrow and American Made dream team are going to be adding de Armas to the film, which was originally based on a Max Landis spec script but has since been reworked by another Cruise mainstay, Christopher McQuarrie.

So far,...

Announced at Netflix's Upfront presentation earlier today, Here Comes The Flood — boasting a screenplay by soon-to-be Star Wars trilogy writer Simon Kinberg — is shrouded in a degree of secrecy at this stage. So far, we know that Meirelles' movie is...

'I Started Crying': Ballerina's Ana de Armas Recalls Filming 'Horrifying' Scene for John Wick Spinoff
Image
Ballerina will debut Ana de Armas as a hard-hitting assassin, and the trailers confirm she can hold her own in action sequences. Armas said she had to prove her mettle behind the scenes, giving due credit to the stunt team.

Ana de Armas was overwhelmed by Ballerina's flamethrower scene. She recalled declining practice runs before filming, confident she could do it; thankfully, the stunt crew insisted she test out the weapon just the same. "I remember the first day the stunt team was practicing with the fire, and they told me to go do it before the shoot, and I said, 'No, no, no, I'll be fine,'" she told Entertainment Weekly. "They got the main fire guy that gets burned, and he's all covered in this sticky grease or whatever they put for protection, and they're like, 'Okay, go ahead. Just burn him.'"

That seemed like a nonchalant...

10 Overrated Netflix Movies Exposed
Image
Netflix isn’t just a streaming service, but also a production house behind original movies and series; the streaming giants have proven they can deliver cinematic gems like The Irishman and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs that earned them the status of a legitimate player in the film industry.

When it comes to movies, like any art form, they have their highs and lows. Not every film becomes a sensation because of its storytelling or direction; sometimes, it’s the star power of the cast or the endless promotion from the team that takes a not-so-great movie from the back of the list to the spotlight.

Let’s look at some movies that have gained massive attention not for being a great movie with a story but due to sheer viral moments, a star-filled cast, and endless promotion. These movies prove that not all films deserve the hype they get.

Chris Evans’ Post-Marvel Career: From Trials To Triumphs
Image
A Look At Chris Evans’ Highs & Lows Post-Marvel Era(Photo Credit –Instagram)

After donning the iconic shield as Captain America for over a decade, Chris Evans became a superhero in real life, winning hearts and commanding the screen. But once he passed the torch, Evans ventured into post-Marvel territory, eager to prove he’s more than just Steve Rogers. His post-mcu roles ranged from charming romantic leads to rugged action heroes, and there was plenty of buzz around his future in Hollywood.

However, as his career soared with films like Knives Out and Defending Jacob, the post-Captain America journey wasn’t all smooth sailing. The film Ghosted, a rom-com action flick with Ana de Armas, made waves, but unfortunately, it didn’t deliver the kind of box-office or critical punch Evans was hoping for. It was a rare misstep in a career that, until then, seemed to glide effortlessly through post-Marvel stardom.

Why Netflix ‘Gives Up’ Great Films and TV Series
Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper in Adolescence (2025)
Netflix seemingly ‘gives up’ great films and TV series. Well, when we say give up, we mean sell them for an extortionate amount of money. And we bet they’re happy they didn’t do that for the current number one series, Adolescence, which has remained #1 in the ‘Top 10 Programs’ in multiple countries, including the UK, and has recently claimed the title of the most-watched Netflix limited series. Not to mention the media attention it’s generating.

Anyway, we digress. Why does Netflix give away great films and TV series? Read on to find out more.

How Does Netflix Decide What to Keep and What to Give Away?

There’s a strategy behind the TV series and films that Netflix gives up. This strategy consists of numbers and dollars.

Netflix loves using data analytics (like any business). It understands your viewing trends on a level more in-depth than you realise...
