Image
Beta Film and Athens-based Foss Productions are teaming up for a six-hour drama series, “The Great Chimera,” that will bring to the screen for the first time one of the most important Greek novels of the 20th century.

Following on the heels of their collaboration on the hit TV series “The Beach” and Yorgos Zois’ feature film “Arcadia,” which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in 2024, “The Great Chimera” is produced by Foss Productions in co-production with Beta Film, which is handling international sales. Shooting is underway on the Greek island of Syros, before moving to Athens and Trieste, Italy.

The series is adapted from M. Karagatsis’ boundary-pushing, 1930s-set modern classic, which explores the complex psychological life of a young Greek woman who wants more than the traditional role expected of her. The cast is led by Italy’s Fotinì Peluso, who stars as Marina, a restless, young Italian beauty fascinated by classical Greek culture.

Bradley Cooper storms the field to celebrate the Philadelphia Eagles win at the 2025 Super Bowl at Caesars Superdome on Sunday night (February 9) in New Orleans, La.

The 50-year-old, who is a big Eagles fan, brought along his seven-year-old daughter Lea, who was also decked out in green gear!

Bradley and Lea were among the many celebrating the Eagles’ win, which was their second Super Bowl win ever. They previously won back in 2017.

Earlier in the night, Bradley held a young fan while introducing the Eagles onto the field prior to the big game.

Just a couple weeks ago, Bradley was seen cheering on the Eagles at a playoff game with girlfriend Gigi Hadid.

Bradley‘s daughter is mainly kept out of the spotlight, but he has brought her to events in the past. We last saw Lea joining Bradley at the If premiere in May 2024, and he also brought her...

“The Grammys are his backup plan”: Bradley Cooper Badly Wants an Oscar but He Can’t Stop Winning Grammys Leaving Fans Amused
Image
Bradley Cooper has lost out on Oscars too many times despite his amazing acting abilities. However, fans are amused at the recognition he gets at the Grammys, winning his third award this year. He won in the category of Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media for his film Maestro.

Oscars last year was the latest snub for Cooper and he was severely trolled throughout the awards season. Cooper campaigned for his film Maestro, which took six years to film but failed to make a significant impact at the Oscars. Fans even accused him of being jealous of last year’s Best Actor winner Cillian Murphy.

Bradley Cooper Will Have to Come to Court in Blake Lively-Justin Baldoni Trial, It Ends with Us Credits Have Convinced Candace Owens

As the famous author Sun Tzu once said, “The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.” But when it comes to Blake Lively’s legal showdown with It Ends with Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni, there’s no subduing in sight—this feud has gone from a simmering pot to an all-out legal battle. And while the lawsuits are flying like arrows in battle, it’s becoming crystal clear that Lively has one ace up her sleeve that Baldoni doesn’t: a powerful army of Hollywood heavyweights who may just tip the scales in her favor.

Her husband, Ryan Reynolds—Deadpool himself—is a heavyweight in his own right, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. And then there’s her circle of A-list friends—Salma Hayek, Gigi Hadid, and Taylor Swift, to name just a few.

Sky-High Heels: Lady Gaga’s Boldest Footwear Moments That Stole the Spotlight
Image
No one makes a statement with shoes quite like Lady Gaga. Standing at just 5 feet 1 ¼ inches (155.6 cm), Gaga is taller than Ariana Grande and Cardi B, but shorter than Hayley Williams, Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Adele, and Taylor Swift.

To make up for her petite height, Lady Gaga embraces sky-high heels as part of her artistry. As she says, ‘I am a walking piece of art every day, with my dreams and my ambitions forward at all times,’ using her bold fashion choices to dominate every room she enters and inspire her fans to live boldly.

While most stick to 5-inch stilettos or 3-inch platforms, Gaga pushes the limits, confidently strutting in footwear that most wouldn’t dare try. Her shoes are as much a part of her iconic style as her extravagant outfits.

Lady Gaga proves that stature is no measure of star power, standing out on...

How every 2025 Best Picture nominee can win at least one Oscar
Image
You get an Oscar, you get an Oscar, every Best Picture nominee gets an Oscar? Not always. For most of the past decade when the Oscars used the sliding scale in Best Picture, most, if not all, of the Best Picture nominees every year walked away with at least one Oscar. Six years ago, all eight Best Picture nominees were Oscar winners. Five years ago, eight of the nine films in the top category claimed a statuette. Four years ago, seven of the eight nominees were victorious.

But ever since the Academy returned to a set 10 nominees in Best Picture three years ago, that high conversion rate has been more difficult to come by. Three years ago, four Best Picture nominees left empty-handed. Two years ago, five were goose-egged as most of them — The Banshees of Inisherin, The Fabelmans, Tár, and Triangle of Sadness — had the misfortune of facing seven-time...

¡Buenas noticias! ‘The White Lotus’ tendrá una cuarta temporada.

A year after ‘Barbenheimer,’ 2025 Oscar Best Picture contenders are largely box-office lightweights
Image
One year later, the Barbenheimer shadow looms over the Academy Award Best Picture race.

The 10 nominees unveiled Thursday have a collective global box-office revenue of $1.7 billion. That might seem like an impressive number, but it represents a 37 percent drop from the $2.7 billion of the previous year.

How is it that the numbers slipped year-to-year by a billion dollars? Much as there were two blockbuster hits in 2023 — Barbie and eventual Best Picture winner Oppenheimer — so too were there a pair of massive hits in 2024: Dune: Part Two and Wicked. Each has grossed more than $700 million worldwide, not too shabby. However, those totals pale in comparison to the more than $2.4 billion combined that were racked up at the multiplex by Barbie ($1.4 billion) and Oppenheimer ($975 million). The sheer staggering nature of their record-breaking dominance over the 2023 box office remains a singular, unprecedented achievement.

“We all were too hard on Maestro”: Bradley Cooper’s ‘Oscar Bait’ Doesn’t Look Bad When You Realize Oscars 2025 Is a Real Downgrade From Last Year
Image
The nominations for the most coveted acclaim in the film industry, the Oscars, are known for sparking widespread reactions, with the discussions surrounding the surprising entries and notable snubs. Bradley Cooper’s 2023 film Maestro was no exception, with many labeling it as classic ‘Oscar bait.’

However, the recently announced 2025 Oscar nominations, which featured several major snubs across multiple categories, have prompted some to reassess the film more favorably. Critics and fans alike are now pointing out that Maestro may not have been as undeserving as initially thought, especially in light of what they perceive as a decline in the quality of this year’s nominations.

The Best Actress Oscar nominees are all in a Best Picture nominee for the first time in 47 years
Image
For the first time in 47 years, all five Best Actress Oscar nominees hail from Best Picture nominees.

The Best Actress lineup was the top five in the odds: Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez), Mikey Madison (Anora), Demi Moore (The Substance), and Fernanda Torres (I’m Still Here). Four of those films were widely predicted to score Best Picture nominations except for I’m Still Here, which was in 13th place in the odds; but in the biggest surprise of the day, the Brazilian feature made the cut on Thursday. The other Best Picture nominees are The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, and Nickel Boys.

The last time the Best Actress and Best Picture lineups aligned was during the 1977-78 season when Diane Keaton (Annie Hall) won Best Actress over Jane Fonda (Julia), Marsha Mason (The Goodbye Girl), and The Turning Point stars Anne Bancroft and Shirley MacLaine.

10 Best Clint Eastwood-Directed Movies (That Don't Star Clint Eastwood)
Image
One of the most important figures in the history of cinema, with both on and off-screen presence that has lasted more than half a century, Clint Eastwood spans generations of Hollywood. His on-camera work in the Western films of the 1960s helped to usher in the Spaghetti Western subgenre, and his pivot to movies like Dirty Harry represented a shift toward the grittier pessimism of New Hollywood.

However, much of Eastwood's most prolific work has been behind the camera, directing dozens of movies over the last several decades. Even when Eastwood is not on the screen in one of his own films, his minimalist style and quiet approach to telling small-scale human stories still peek through, and he continues to capture the depth of the human experience well into his 90s.

The 2025 Oscars Best Picture Race Just Got A Lot More Clear
Image
The Best Picture race at the 2025 Oscars is coming into focus. The Oscars, also known as the Academy Awards, were created by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1929, and celebrate the artistic achievement of each year's films in a variety of categories including acting, directing, editing, costume design, sound design, and more. The Oscar that is perhaps the most prestigious is the Best Picture award, which celebrates what Academy voters have deemed to be the best film of the year.

Over the years, there have been a wide variety of Best Picture winners, so far running from 1927's Wings, a silent film starring Clara Bow, through 2023's Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan's biopic-thriller of J. Robert Oppenheimer starring Cillian Murphy. Some winners are minted classics such as 1942's Casablanca, 1964's The Sound of Music, 1971's The Godfather, and 1992's Schindler's List. However, there are also some winners that...

2025 Cinema Audio Society nominations list: ‘Dune: Part Two’ and ‘Wicked’ make the cut, but not ‘Emilia Pérez’
Image
The Cinema Audio Society announced nominations on Tuesday, Jan. 7, honoring the best in cinematic sound mixing. Nominees for live-action motion picture sound mixing are A Complete Unknown, Deadpool & Wolverine, Dune: Part Two, Gladiator II, and Wicked. That includes four of the top five contenders in Gold Derby’s current racetrack odds for Best Sound. Deadpool & Wolverine is the outlier, ranked 10th in our odds. Missing from the Cas nominations list were the Golden Globe-leading Emilia Pérez, as well as three other films shortlisted by the Motion Picture Academy: Blitz, Alien: Romulus, and Joker: Folie à Deux.

The Cas Awards used to correlate with the Oscar for Best Sound Mixing, but that category was consolidated with Best Sound Editing for the 93rd annual awards honoring the best films of 2020. Now the Oscars present a single award for Best Sound. The Oscar champs since them have been Sound of Metal (2020), Dune: Part One...

Why Timothée Chalamet and Angelina Jolie could sing their way to Golden Globe wins
Image
What do the Golden Globes love more than a juicy dramatic performance? A juicy dramatic performance that sings.

From Austin Butler to Renée Zellweger, the Globes have long rewarded actors not known for their musical abilities who decided to show off their chops on screen in biopics. This year, that historical trend could boost the chances of two nominees: Timothée Chalamet for Best Film Drama Actor in A Complete Unknown and Angelina Jolie for Best Film Drama Actress in Maria.

In A Complete Unknown, Chalamet plays Bob Dylan. The film follows the legendary singer-songwriter from January 1961, when he moves from Minnesota to New York City, to his 1965 concert at the Newport Folk Festival, where he notoriously introduces electric instruments. Chalamet does all of his own singing in the film, refusing to lip-synch along to Dylan’s original recordings. As of today, the actor ranks second with 4/1 odds.

In Maria, Jolie plays Maria Callas.

Maestro Soundtrack: Every Leonard Bernstein Song in Bradley Cooper's new film.
Image
It wouldn’t be a Leonard Bernstein film without great music. For Bradley Cooper’s new film Maestro(which the nine-time Oscar nominee co-wrote, directed, and starred in), the filmmaker knew he had to do justice to the iconic composer and conductor. “In A Star Is Born, the nuclear weapon was always Lady Gaga’s voice,” Cooper told Netflix of his 2018 directorial debut. “For Maestro, I figured it was mine to mess up because I had a nuclear weapon, and that’s Leonard Bernstein’s music. Just the breadth of it, how diverse it is, and how moving it is.”

Bernstein was famous both as a conductor and public advocate for classical music, and as a multitalented composer who worked across disciplines: symphonies; musicals; and scores for ballets, films, and television. So naturally, Cooper set out to include as many pieces of Bernstein’s music in the film as possible...

Maestro In Blue: Is Fanis Dead Or Alive? Character, Explained
Image
When it comes to romantic dramas, there are no such things as heroes or villains in the strict sense of the terms, only characters who represent different shades of the moral spectrum and are guided by their personal motivations. Despite that being the case, in the Greek drama series Maestro in Blue, the character of Fanis can be easily identified as an out-and-out antagonist with no redeeming qualities. A shrewd politician with no moral compass, a manipulative, toxic husband who exploited his wife to cover up his illegal activities, and a pathetic father who didn’t care about the well-being of his children, Fanis single-handedly messed up the lives of everyone he was close to from the very beginning, and his absence changed things in a significant way as well. The third season of Maestro in Blue offers a thorough look at the transformation in the lives of the members...

‘Maestro In Blue’ Season 3 Recap & Ending Explained: Did Klelia And Orestis End Up Together?
Image
The ever-dynamic human life is like a beautiful melody, flowing with its own rhythm and beat; it comprises interconnected notes of emotions, feelings, and expressions. While the high notes of joy, love, and desire provide a euphoric sense of freedom, the low notes of sorrow, trauma, isolation and remorse allow growth of emotional expression. When the symphonies of different lives find perfect balance by matching their notes, a perfect harmony is created. Trying to discern the intricacies of life through musical resonance is what I find the most memorable aspect of Netflix’s Greek drama, Maestro in Blue, which returned with its third and final season to conclude its opus. While the series has a murder mystery investigation subplot with interspersed elements of personal trauma, crime, and corruption, the narrative as a whole is founded on and connected by expressions of love and how it acts as a connection between music and life.

‘Maestro In Blue’ Season 3 Recap (Episodes 1-4): Who Killed Charalambos?
Image
Maestro in Blue, the Greek drama series on Netflix, finally comes to an end with the release of season 3, which really feels like a direct continuation of season 2, which released earlier in 2024. The show is set on the small Greek island of Paxos, where a music festival brought a maestro, Orestis, and his student, Klelia, romantically close, while certain events led to the murder of a local man. Now, in Maestro in Blue season 3, the entire focus is on the police investigation into the death of Charalambos, and the short series is overall quite an entertaining watch.

Spoiler Alert

What is season 3 about?

Maestro in Blue season 3 begins with events from before the last scene of season 2, in which Fanis was shot, as we see Klelia in Athens, going to visit her fiancé, Thanos, at the hospital he works at. Although their relationship has not been in a healthy state for quite some time,...

‘Maestro In Blue’ Season 3 Review: Netflix’s Greek Drama Ends On A Satisfactory Note
Image
When Maestro in Blue was first released to global audiences on Netflix in 2022, it was already quite popular in its home country of Greece, and soon, many viewers from all over the world got hooked on its story. Based around two charismatic characters, Orestis and Klelia, the series took us through the many stages of their passionate romance before leaving us with a sudden murder, which was bound to have grim consequences. Now, as the story of the Greek series is rounded up, Maestro in Blue season 3 becomes much more about the murder and the ensuing investigation into it than the forbidden romance that it had begun with. Nonetheless, the series still remains as interesting as before, mainly because of the strong set of characters at the fore.

As season 3 of Maestro in Blue takes off, it clarifies that the ending scene of season 2 had not taken place immediately after...

‘Maestro In Blue’ Season 3 Ending Explained & Finale Recap: Is Fanis Dead Or Alive?
Image
The much-loved Greek drama series released globally on Netflix, Maestro in Blue, finally ends with season 3, as long-standing matters of relationships and crimes on the picturesque island of Paxos are resolved. Season 3’s finale, which is also the longest episode across all three seasons, with a runtime of 79 minutes, reveals a lot of information about the characters we have been following, untangling the web of mystery that season 2 had created. While I have already discussed the overall series in my detailed recap, this article is entirely about Maestro in Blue season 3’s ending.

Bradley Cooper movies: 16 greatest films ranked worst to best
Image
In just over two decades, Bradley Cooper has become one of the most acclaimed actors, producers and filmmakers of his peer group. Cooper – who famously studied at the Actors Studio in New York and once even asked two-time Oscar winner Sean Penn a question from the audience on “Inside the Actors Studio” – made his feature acting debut in 2001’s “Wet Hot American Summer,” and later broke out in comedies like “Wedding Crashers” and television hits like “Alias.”

But starting with 2012’s “Silver Linings Playbook,” Cooper reached another level. That film from David O. Russell landed Cooper his first Oscar nomination and put him on the map of serious filmmakers. In the nine years since the success of “Silver Linings,” Cooper has received seven additional Oscar nominations, including as co-writer and producer of “A Star Is Born” and producer of “American Sniper” and “Joker,” and worked with top filmmakers such as Russell,...

That year, she appeared as Katniss Everdeen in the first installment of The Hunger Games film franchise and starred as Tiffany Maxwell in Silver Linings Playbook, a role that won her an Academy Award. Starting on Jan. 1, Silver Linings Playbook will drop on Max.

The logline for Silver Linings Playbook reads: “A man with bipolar disorder who was recently released from a mental institution befriends a mysterious woman and learns to let go of some dreams in order to rebuild his life.”

‘Awards Magnet’ mailbag: A Zoe Saldaña and Ariana Grande vote-split? Is ‘A Complete Unknown’ the new ‘Maestro’?
Image
Could there be a musical vote-split in the Best Supporting Actress Oscar race? Is A Complete Unknown this year’s Maestro? Gold Derby editors and experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here to answer your burning questions of the week on Awards Magnet.

Zoe Saldaña has sat in the No. 1 spot in the Best Supporting Actress odds this whole season for Emilia Pérez, but Ariana Grande has been giving chase ever since Wicked opened last month and is now on Saldaña’s heels in second place. Two musical performances in the top two is a musical lover’s dream, but could that somehow lead to a vote-split? And thus pave the way for a non-musical contender to triumph? One listener thinks The Substance‘s Margaret Qualley would be the beneficiary.

4 best shows to watch on streaming this week
Image
A new week is here and besides the holidays, it means plenty of new additions to all the streaming services. You can expect a fan-favorite dystopian series, a new special for a sci-fi series, football, and a new season of Netflix show.

But beyond the new shows, you can also check out new episodes of shows that have already started streaming. These include Dexter: Original Sin, Shrinking, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Outlander, Silo, and Landman.

While not all the following new shows and specials are for everyone, there is definitely enough of a difference between these top 4 that ensures there is something for everyone.

Angelina Jolie’s Popular New Netflix Biopic Is A Great Reminder To Watch Bradley Cooper’s $80M Movie Nominated For Best Picture Last Year
Image
Angelina Jolie's shocking performance in Maria resembles Bradley Cooper's celebrated role in 2023. Pablo Larraín's Maria seems to pull a lot of inspiration from last year's favorite musical biopic — not only by trying to honor the controversial artist at its center but also by displaying beautiful visuals that emulate its eras' aesthetics. Larraín's movie might even repeat last year's numerous nominations, as early reviews for Maria reveal an admiration for its clever cinematographic language which echoes its protagonist’s inner journey.

Jolie leads Maria's cast with the elegance of a true Diva, fitting the role of La Callas as if it was destined for her. Though Maria's ending appropriately leans toward tragedy, a contemporary movie has its fair share of heartbreak, mainly as it portrays Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre's famous marriage and legacy. Despite featuring groundbreaking musicians who had to endure media and public scrutiny through their personal struggles,...

If Angelina Jolie Wants To Win The Best Actress Oscar In 2025, She'll Have To Overcome Netflix
Image
Angelina Jolie is a strong contender for Best Actress at the 2025 Oscars thanks to her performance in Maria. She plays opera singer Maria Callas in Pablo Larraín's drama acquired by Netflix, and the dramatic turn has brought her plenty of awards buzz. She's our predicted Best Actress winner for the 2025 Oscars at the moment even. Now that Maira is streaming on Netflix and more people - specifically Oscar voters - have the chance to witness or revisit her performance, this is the time when Jolie's campaign should be pushed extra hard for her third Oscar nomination.

The visibility that comes with Maria streaming on Netflix should bolster Angelina Jolie's Oscar chances. It's now something that most people have access to, whereas Mikey Madison (Anora) may still be missed by some, and most have yet to see Nicole Kidman (Babygirl). Netflix also boasts a strong history of securing Oscar...

10 Best Movies Like Netflix's Maria
Image
Netflix’s Maria is the latest subversive biopic from acclaimed filmmaker Pablo Larraín, exploring the tumultuous life of opera singer Maria Callas. The film centers around the celebrity’s final days before her death, exploring the impact of her work on both the world around her and her own psyche. It’s a dark, twisted tale of fame, ambition, and corruption that certainly doesn’t stick to the formula when it comes to historical biopics. The film is notably one of Angelina Jolie’s best projects yet, as she delivers a groundbreaking performance in the lead role.

Larrain has a very unique style of filmmaking that’s totally unlike anything else that came before it, but there are certainly traces of influence and inspiration that can be found in Maria. The film’s dark, socially relevant exploration of womanhood and success is something that’s often explored in these kinds of films,...

2025 Grammys: The 4 hardest races to predict
Image
When it comes to the grand slam of Egot awards, the Grammys are always the most unpredictable. This year is no different, with several races too close to call. Here are the four toughest bets.

SEEWill Shaboozey’s record run on Billboard charts lead to Grammys like it did for ‘Old Town Road’?

Best Pop Vocal Album

You could make a case for each of the nominees here. Ariana Grande would seem to be the odd person out because her “Eternal Sunshine” is the only contender in this category that missed a nod for Album of the Year, but all the “Wicked” hype and its corresponding Oscar campaign could generate more buzz for Grande as an artist. Lady Gaga’s surprise Best Pop Solo Performance win in 2019 for “Joanne,” for example, happened during her big awards push for “A Star Is Born.”

Then there’s Taylor Swift, whose “The Tortured...

10 A-List Actors Who Appeared In Doctor Who
Image
Doctor Who has a long history of including huge celebrity guests, both before their breakout success and after. Doctor Who began airing in the UK on the BBC back in 1963. At that time, the show steadily grew in popularity, and it managed to attract the attention of many of the biggest stars of that era to appear on the show. Even the actors who played the titular Doctor frequently had a successful career by the time they were cast in the show, which helped to raise the prestige of the series overall.

However, since the revival in 2005, Doctor Who has established itself as a show that attracts some of the biggest actors in the industry. In addition, the show stands out for having cast a great number of actors years before their careers took off, and becoming one of their earliest acting credits. With such a prestigious pedigree, it's no...

“The Substance,” “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” and “The Deliverance” topped the 12th annual Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Award nominations with three apiece.

Oscar Experts Typing: Best Supporting Actress is shaping up to be a musical battle
Image
Welcome to Oscar Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Oscar race — via Slack, of course. This week’s topic: Best Supporting Actress, where a new contender is ascendant.

Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! I feel like this week’s column might be… popular. “Wicked” is out in theaters now, riding a wave of pre-release hype that hasn’t been seen in these parts since “Barbie.” Fans are fanning, stans are stanning, and I’ve got Ariana Grande winning Best Supporting Actress. We knew this would happen once you planted the seed, “Inception”-style, that typical Best Supporting Actress winners from musicals are more like Grande’s performance than what Zoe Saldaña does in “Emilia Pérez.” So, of course, I’ve made the swap — Ariana fans, tweet at me! — and while I’m always reactionary, it seems I’m not alone.
