The film centers on failed horse trainer Dusty Sanders (Astin) whose career is on the brink. Given one more chance to train a winning horse after losing his girlfriend Dee (Oteri), along with the three horses he’s been training), Sanders must overcome the odds – and his eccentric family and social group – to return to the winner’s circle.

Look up "heart" in the dictionary and you might just see a photo of Sean Astin. Or at least one of the characters he's best known for playing, like Mikey ("The Goonies"), Rudy ("Rudy") or Sam ("The Lord of the Rings" trilogy).

So it's no surprise that in his new movie, the horse-racing mockumentary "And They're Off…," the 40-year-old plays a horse trainer with – you guessed it – loads of heart.

Astin's career has slowed down over the past few years -- by design, he says -- but these days he's keeping extremely busy. We sat down with the cordial and candid actor-director-producer to talk about hitting the racetrack and, of course, all those "Goonies" and "Hobbit" rumors.

You worked with some pretty renowned comedians, like Cheri Oteri and Kevin Nealon, in "And They're Off." Was it hard to keep up with them?

I'd love to do [more comedy roles]. I was the straight guy.

So this is the trailer for the mockumentary And They're Off... which is apparently supposed to be funny. Spoiler Alert: It's not. At all! The film stars Sean Astin, Cheri Oteri, Mark Moses (Duck from Mad Men), Kevin Nealon, and a bunch of awesome people. Yet, the trailer totally blows. Let's hope this isn't any indication of the movie.

Tyra Colar- I got into acting by starting off in pageantry. I got my first modeling agent when I won Miss San Francisco Bay Area Teen and began acting shortly after. Prior to that, when I watched "Crooklyn" by Spike Lee, I knew I wanted to be an actress. That was at the age of 9 years old.
