It was not the first time Jean-Pierre Mocky had used the Robin Hood concept ; "Robin des mers"(1998) was a first attempt in that direction, but "les insomniaques " is much more satisfying : the lines are carefully written and often witty ; acting is good, particularly Rufus as the smug chief of police .
When you are sleepless at night , there are worse things to do than to punish the people in high positions who always fool the people : nobody will be spared in this wholesale massacre by the secret club of the insomniacs ,but the innocent .They do steal from the rich ( wallets and jewels at the aristocratic ball of the marquis) and give to the poor (the "restaurants du coeur",a charity organization) , they humiliate the rotten politicians, all in all ,they do what the justice,were it fair ,would do.
It's a good funny movie by Mocky ,made with a very low budget ,as usual.
