‘Pop Culture Jeopardy!’ Contestants Get Reversal On Technicality
Image
One thing that always bothers Jeopardy! fans is when a question ends up counted wrong when it should have been correct. It seems that Pop Culture Jeopardy! has found a way around that, and it happened very early on in the first season of the new spinoff series on Amazon Prime Video.

Here is what happened in the episode and how the players’ protests paid off with a huge reversal on the show.

Pop Culture Jeopardy! Reverses Call For Paul Rudd Question

The second episode of Pop Culture Jeopardy! already had a controversial moment that has many fans talking. In that episode, a team was answering a question about a movie, and their answer was deemed incorrect. However, during the break, they protested the wrong answer, and when the show returned, they got it reversed.

Colin Jost read the clue to the players and it was about a Paul Rudd movie.

Image
In the wee hours of Wednesday morning (December 4), Pop Culture Jeopardy!, hosted by Saturday Night Live’s golden boy Colin Jost, arrived, splashed on the above-the-fold front page of Amazon Prime Video. The brand-new, streaming-only addition to the Jeopardy!-verse is here. Its three-episode premiere meant fans woke up with some binging to do. Here’s what went down: Episode 1 was a thriller match with a come-from-behind victory in Final Jeopardy. Episode 2 featured a surprising score reversal involving an alternate film festival title of the Paul Rudd comedy Our Idiot Brother. Episode 3 was a battle royale of teams of all former Jeopardy! contestants. The reception has been generally positive from fans, one Redditor putting it, “Just watched the first episode. I’m hooked. What a wild finish!” Jost is a winning fit as host, and the gameplay, featuring teams of three (or nine players at once) buzzing in separately with...

‘Anatomy of Lies’ Directors Throw Cold Water on Elisabeth Finch’s Apology: ‘Nobody Has Any Reason to Believe Anything That She Says’
Image
The directors of “Anatomy of Lies” weren’t moved by former “Grey’s Anatomy” writer Elisabeth Finch’s public apology following the release of their Peacock docuseries.

The three-episode saga from Evgenia Peretz and David Schisgall, which launched Tuesday on the NBCUniversal streamer, expands on Peretz’s 2022 Vanity Fair exposé detailing how the TV writer lied for years about having a rare form of bone cancer, to the point where she infused those lies into storylines she wrote into the ABC medical drama.

The doc includes interviews with Finch’s former colleagues from “Grey’s Anatomy” and “The Vampire Diaries,” acquaintances and her ex-wife Jennifer Beyer, whom Finch met while seeking treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder only to mine pieces of Beyer and her family’s troubled past for plot points in her work.

Former Grey's Anatomy Writer Elisabeth Finch Responds to Web of Lies Docuseries
Image
A former Greys Anatomy writer has issued a public apology for faking a rare form of cancer for eight years following the release of a new docuseries that chronicles her trail of deceit and manipulation. Elisabeth Finch served as a writer on the Shonda Rhimes medical drama for 13 episodes starting in 2014, and produced 172 episodes before her departure in 2022, even appearing on-screen as Nurse Elizabeth in the Season 15 episode "Silent All These Years." The three-part docuseries titled Anatomy of Lies hit Peacock on October 15, prompting renewed interest in her story, which led to her statement.

In an Instagram post yesterday, Finch says that "sorry" doesnt begin to explain how she feels over this whole mess, claiming that she "trapped herself in an addiction of lies." Thats the understatement of the year, considering she went so far as to tape a catheter to her arm at one point, and shave her head...

Anatomy of Lies Docuseries Unravels the Story of Elisabeth Finch
Image
Premiering October 15 on Peacock, Anatomy of Lies reveals the rise and fall of Grey’s Anatomy star writer Elisabeth Finch, whose jaw-dropping lies fooled Hollywood for years and became fodder for many high-profile episodes of Grey’s Anatomy.

Told in three episodes that are 60 minutes each, the story is told by some of her closest contacts, many speaking for the first time.

Originally reported in the Vanity Fair article “Scene Stealer,” the docuseries reveals how Finch, a master of manipulation, saved her best fiction for her own life story and exploited the empathy of those around her.

Her final mark was trauma survivor Jennifer Beyer, who entrusted Finch with her deepest secrets. But as Beyer uncovers the web of lies that deceived Hollywood for years, she faces a daunting challenge: can she reclaim the narrative from a convincing storyteller who showed no signs of stopping?

Controversy Grows After ‘Zone of Interest’ Director Jonathan Glazer Uses Oscar Speech to Condemn the Israel-Hamas War
Image
At this year’s Oscars, “The Zone of Interest” director Jonathan Glazer took the prize for most polarizing speech. And the swirl surrounding exactly what he said and what he meant — still a matter of debate — doesn’t appear to be dying down.

When the British filmmaker took the stage after the Auschwitz-set Holocaust drama was announced as best international film, he was greeted with a standing ovation. He then referred to notes he’d prepared in advance, thanked the requisite players and drew a parallel between “Zone of Interest” and the current conflict in Gaza that was difficult to decipher given the audience applause and his own mumbling.

“All our choices were made to reflect and confront us in the present, not to say look what they did then, but rather look what we do now,” he said, according to the Academy’s official transcript of the speech. “Our...

Zooey Deschanel on What Role Convinced Her to Come Back to TV After ‘New Girl’
Image
Zooey Deschanel is revealing what role convinced her to return to scripted television after taking a break once New Girl ended.

During a recently published interview with Vanity Fair, conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike, the actress said she decided to step away from acting temporarily to spend time with her two children. But she admitted that she also got so burned out from playing quirky Jess Day for seven seasons on the Fox comedy that she needed a break and even considered never returning to TV.

“It was a huge undertaking,” Deschanel added. “I couldn’t picture myself getting back into the game like that, especially not right away.”

Before New Girl, the actress was known for her roles in several movies, including 500 Days of Summer, Elf, Almost Famous, The Good Girl and Our Idiot Brother. So as she eased back into the industry, years after the Fox...

Charlie Vickers in Le Seigneur des anneaux : Les Anneaux de pouvoir (2022)
Amazon Prime Video New Releases: September 2022
Charlie Vickers in Le Seigneur des anneaux : Les Anneaux de pouvoir (2022)
With its list of new releases for September 2022, Prime Video is finally unveiling the most anticipated (and expensive) series in the streamer’s history.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will arrive to Prime Video’s servers on Sept. 2, 2022. This Lord of the Rings prequel, set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Second Age, is in many ways the kind of TV property that Prime Video must have always wanted. It’s certainly the TV property most fitting with the company’s largesse and riches. The Rings of Power will cover the creation of the titular rings and many important events from Tolkien’s lore (condensed into a more TV-appropriate timeframe).

Middle-earth is going to be the happening spot on Amazon and the streaming world at large this month, but Prime Video does have a handful of other originals for the fantasy-phobic. Flight/Risk, a documentary about the Boeing 737 Max design disasters,...

‘Fire Island’: Meet the Power Trio Behind the Summer’s Sweetest, Funniest Gay Rom-Com
Image
While queer comedians have been the hottest thing in stand-up for the last decade, it’s no secret that Hollywood is always the last one to get the joke.

As the likes of Kate McKinnon, Billy Eichner, and Bowen Yang ascended from New York’s musty improv theaters to the casts of “Saturday Night Live” and Disney remakes, the last decade has brought a remarkable shift in not only queer visibility but something far more substantial — queer influence. Queer TV shows like “The Other Two,” “Search Party,” and “Schitt’s Creek” reflect this sea change, but so far movies have been much slower on the uptake.

That all changes this year, with the release of two mainstream comedy movies from gay writers who also star in their projects. While Eichner’s major studio rom-com “Bros” is set to hit theaters in September, Joel Kim Booster’s “Fire Island” opens Pride month...

Monica Mindler said she wanted to warn other families who might be unaware of the dangers of the substance.

The two have worked together six times, which includes movies like Our Idiot Brother, Wanderlust, and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Kid Cosmic (2021)
New on Netflix: February 2021 Releases
Kid Cosmic (2021)
February may be the shortest month, but that doesn’t mean streaming services can ignore their duty to entertain us at all times. In that mission, Netflix is making a decent effort in February 2021. This isn’t the most jam-packed month the major streamer has trotted out just yet but there are plenty of new originals to get the job done.

Netflix has a few original series of note this month. The party begins with Kid Cosmic on Feb. 2. This animated series is a comic-tinged adventure from Craig McCracken, creator of the Powerpuff Girls. That’s followed by the Sarah Chalke and Katherine Heigl-starring Firefly Lane on Feb. 3 and Behind Her Eyes on Feb. 17. Perhaps the biggest sleeper this month, however, is Tribes of Europa. This post-apocalyptic adventure series premieres on Feb. 19.

There are also quite a few intriguing Netflix original movies in February 2021. Malcolm and Marie stars John David Washington...
