If there’s one thing we gamers love, it’s a sneak peek into something new before it officially launches. A little taste of the forbidden fruit, a preview of the chaos that awaits, it’s exhilarating. It’s like getting a free sample at a food court and suddenly realizing you need to buy the whole meal.
A still from Destiny 2 | Credits: Bungie Inc.
Now, imagine the food court employee meant to hand you a single bite of a juicy burger but instead accidentally served you the entire sandwich, only to snatch it back seconds later, saying, “Oh no, that wasn’t ready yet.” You’re left standing there, burger-less, with the taste still lingering on your tongue, craving more. That’s exactly what happened with Destiny 2’s Rite of the Nine event.

The First Descendant was one of the breakout hits of 2024. But as we move into 2025, the game has lost 96% of its players. The game has been struggling with balancing issues for months, and while the devs at Nexon Games have acknowledged the issues, there are no fixes to be seen.
This isn’t normal for a live service game. | Image Credit: Nexon Games
The devs recently addressed concerns again but it might be too little too late as we barely have any faith at this point. Buffs and nerfs are common in live-service games but the situation with The Last Descendant isn’t that simple. We need Nexon to make the hard choice sooner rather than later.

Even though The First Descendant might not be the hottest game with millions of players, it still has an active community. The title is enjoyed by tens of thousands of players each day, and developer Nexon Games has brought tons of updates to keep them engaged.

Unlike its rivals, Nexon actively listens to the community, decides various things based on feedback, and admits its own faults. The developer has acknowledged one of the crucial flaws in The First Descendant‘s recent patches and explained why it has failed to balance meta builds that are crucial to the end-game content.

The First Descendant has been on quite the journey since its launch. While Nexon’s free-to-play looter shooter initially turned heads with its, shall we say, ‘visually striking’ character designs and fashion-forward approach, recent months have seen player numbers dwindle as the community realizes that eye candy alone doesn’t make for a compelling game.

But rather than addressing core gameplay mechanics or adding variety to what many consider repetitive activities, the developers seem to have found a different way to reinvigorate interest in the game. First came the announcement of “much-requested” ‘jiggle physics,’ and now? Well, let’s just say things are about to get interesting.

Cosmetics are one of the most important aspects of any multiplayer title these days. Overwatch 2 is also not an exception. However, it’s not like Blizzard has put that aspect at the top of the priority list all the time. In recent years, there have been just recolors of the previously released skins.

This tendency also looked more baseless amidst a situation where this highly popular hero shooter was rapidly losing players to none other than Marvel Rivals. But now, Blizzard might have thought about this issue and started releasing new skins, instead of just blatant recolored ones. But the question is, for how long?

In live-service games such as The First Descendant, fashion and cosmetics typically play a significant role. There’s nothing better than flaunting your personalized character to the numerous other players you meet. In addition to using flashy skins, you can also use Paint to change the color of your Descendant’s attire.

Ever since its launch, The First Descendant has seen its fair share of ups and downs, from controversies to technical issues, but it still maintained a healthy player count. However, in recent weeks, the game has dropped its player count drastically, highlighting the need for developers to step in with significant changes and overhauls.

While various factors have contributed to this drop, the state of the character is one of the pressing issues. What’s the point of having a diverse roster if only a handful of them are useful and enjoyable? Nexon should focus on balancing these characters, particularly Luna and Valby, who are popular but need a rework to become more enjoyable and effective.

The First Descendant isn't as popular as it once was and developer Nexon is making it clear that it has plans to turn things around. After a brief period in the spotlight following a successful launch, the hype surrounding the Unreal Engine 5 looter-shooter has dwindled as players become increasingly frustrated with the lack of communication from the studio. Beyond that, it's been a while since news on future content was shared, making many wonder what ideas Nexon has in mind for its game.
Responding to a plethora of comments on its blog, Nexon made it clear that it's listening to players' feedback, going so far as to confirm that The First Descendant's second season will introduce two new playable characters. That may be exciting, but Nexon went further by locking in a new Ultimate Descendant who is also planned to launch for Season 2; Going forward, the studio made it...

Quick Links Where To Get A Heat Plasma Battery Best Strategy For Farming Heat Plasma Batteries How To Use Heat Plasma Batteries
Heat Plasma Batteries are a rare resource in The First Descendant that you can farm to craft strong gear from various endgame item blueprints. Certain missions you unlock by progressing the story have enemies with high chances of dropping this material. With the changes made to Season 1 of the game, there are more opportunities to farm Plasma Batteries than ever before.
One of the main reasons to get a Heat Plasma Battery is to research an essential material for Ultimate Valby. This Ultimate character in The First Descendant can be unlocked for those looking to make strong endgame builds with weapons and gear they've collected. Other strong items like Executor Polymer Syncytium and Energy Activators can be made using this type of Battery.

The Balanced Plasma Battery material in The First Descendant can be used to craft tons of different items when you farm it. With recent updates to the game, there have been discoveries of areas and missions where you can gather these Batteries in larger quantities than before.
The quality of life changes for The First Descendant in the 1.1.0 patch introduces many changes to materials in Season 1. The first official season of The First Descendant is now live, and with it comes a host of changes. These include the new Descendant Hailey, along with a new ultimate weapon, Excava. However, there are also many changes which aim to address community feedback, and one of these issues is slow experience gain for weapons and Descendants.

The big update for season 1 of The First Descendant had dropped, introducing a ton of changes and a new character. Nexon has implemented several Qol changes that are aimed towards improving the experience of players in the game.
While fans have mostly appreciated the update, there is one aspect of the game that has become a concern. In trying to balance the game, especially the Invasion Dungeons, Nexon has announced that they are nerfing it down. However, this backfired a bit, as players are now complaining that the dungeons will become too easy for them.

As The First Descendant ushers in its first season, Nexon has dropped the latest patch notes detailing everything players can expect from the latest update. Ever since the looter-shooter launched in mid-2024, The First Descendant has managed to maintain a decent player base thanks to the developer's swift response to consumer feedback and a healthy amount of post-launch content. Fans who have stuck around long enough to experience the first official season are in for a treat as a wealth of new quality-of-life improvements have just been implemented.
Over on The First Descendant's official X (formerly Twitter) page, Nexon posted a detailed breakdown of Patch 1.1.0, starting with the addition of Descendant Hailey Scott.

Hailey's skills focus on gunplay and chill damage, making her a more firearm-focused Descendant like Lepic. Hailey's abilities, like Cryo Round and Storm Snare, will inflict Cryo to deal direct and lingering damage to enemies. Cold Fury will slow Hailey down but increase her firearms' critical hit rate and penetration.
Season 1 of The First Descendant will be launching on August 29, 2024, and it will arrive with a bang. A brand-new Descendant, Hailey, will be launched on the same day. Fans have theorized about her abilities since she was first teased, but Nexon has finally released concrete information about her skills.
Much like Viessa's First Descendant build, Hailey's skills will focus on inflicting chill damage. Unlike Viessa, however, Hailey's abilities are more focused around gunplay, which makes sense given her sniper background. Some of these abilities seem similar in function to the skills of other Descendants, so learning Hailey should hopefully be relatively straightforward.

The First Descendant has gained a strong following and player base since its release, offering a blend of fun and sometimes repetitive gameplay. There are also intricate character builds, and a visually striking world, all for free.
However, not all is perfect within the game’s community. A recent post on Reddit brought to light a significant issue that has been frustrating many players: the tedious grind involved in farming Void Shards.
Void Shards Farming Is a Chore in The First Descendant
This seemingly small aspect of the game has stirred up quite a bit of discontent on r/TheFirstDescendant. Among its dedicated player base, there are some fearing that if not addressed, it could lead to larger problems down the line, potentially putting the game in the same unfavorable light as other games that didn’t fix these persisting issues, like Helldivers 2.
I am absolutely sick to death of farming void shards.

The First Descendant has enjoyed a largely positive response from players since its release earlier this year. The game’s blend of Mmorpg mechanics with a third-person shooter gameplay loop has allowed it to stand out from its competition and gain a respectable player base.
However, it has not all been smooth sailing for Korean studio, Nexon, in the early months of the game’s release with players quick to point out flaws in the game’s systems that have impacted their time in the futuristic world.
The First Descendant’s Need to Overhaul Its Mechanics
With the scope for a lot of creative builds stemming from a variety of playable characters embodying the titular Descendants, Nexon’s latest offering has the potential to achieve greatness in a genre that has become quite crowded of late.

Fast travel points in The First Descendant can save time, but only outposts allow Descendant changes. Crystallization catalysts are crucial for powering up weapons, but mastering them requires careful planning. Presets offer convenience in customizing loadouts for different missions, streamlining equipment retrieval.
The First Descendant is a game that typically does an excellent job of introducing new players to its many systems. Tutorials are well-paced to prevent information overload while still being detailed enough to be useful. However, this is not the case for all the game's features.
Many features are not explicitly discussed in the game. While this means there are mechanics for veterans to discover, it can also mean that players do not get to take advantage of some quality-of-life mechanics. At worst, players may waste time farming for gear or materials they ultimately will not need. Some of these features may be brushed on by the game,...

Killing bugs with friends in an intergalactic setting sounds incredibly fun. Helldivers 2 proved it, too. However, before Arrowhead’s PvE title existed on Steam, there was Starship Troopers: Extermination by Offshore.
The title first joined Early Access in May 2023 and is based on the popular IP of the same name. Starship Troopers was also the IP that inspired Helldivers 2, among other IPs like Terminator.
However, despite having enjoyed some aspects of the title, there is a reason why it is still in Early Access after more than a year. It has some glaring rough edges that spoil the experience. So, should one pick it up for the mindless fun and bug-hunting or wait until the rough edges have been chamfered?
Starship Troopers: Extermination releases on October 11, 2024, on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 (PS5), and PC.

Quick Links Preparing For The Fight Against Gluttony How To Beat Gluttony In The First Descendant Gluttony Fight Rewards In The First Descendant
Gluttony is not only the newest boss in The First Descendant but the hardest one to beat as well. At Level 140, this boss is not easy and will not be one-shot even by excellent S-tier Descendant builds - at least not yet. However, players with the right strategy and strong communication can still defeat him, though they need to be careful and use caution to ensure they finish the fight.
The best characters in The First Descendant are still sometimes not enough in the toughest boss fights. However, beating Gluttony will give you some fantastic rewards and allow you to take him on again and again to continue farming these rewards. If you manage that, you will be well ready for the next update when another new difficult boss fight drops.

The First Descendant offers a thrilling cooperative experience that is filled with fast-paced battles coupled with special abilities of characters and a plethora of weapons. The game has created a huge community that is dedicated and passionate about trying new things.
However, even the dedicated players are frustrated about one thing in the game, the uselessness of the handguns. Not only they are useless in almost all scenarios but also have a mastery system. Players believe that to make them viable, Nexon needs to make them dual-wielded.
Players Want The First Descendant’s HandGuns to be Dual Wielded
Weapons in third-person action shooters play a crucial part in the battle, especially in The First Descendant where players are fighting against hordes of enemies. The game offers a wide array of weapons that not only allow them to have a variety of builds but also help them keep the ammunition count in check.

In an interview with Game Rant from last year before the game’s release, Minseok Joo, the director of The First Descendant, shared some intriguing insights into the game’s development.
The First Descendant is a looter shooter game, but it aimed to stand out by making the grind for loot less tedious. Although, given recent player feedback regarding the immense grind needed to unlock certain characters, it’s still pretty tedious.
Balancing and Progression in The First Descendant
Responding to a question by the interviewer regarding failures and successes in looter-shooter games, Minseo responded by saying:
As a development team that’s making a looter shooter game for the first time, we do look to Destiny for reference, Warframe, and so on. What caught our attention was that Warframe very actively serves and communicates with its players. That’s something we feel we are good at, especially with an Mmorpg.

However, you can access more upgrade Module slots with an Ultimate character to change their playstyle with various buffs and modifiers. Whatever build you make for an Ultimate Descendant will inevitably be more powerful than their Normal counterpart, allowing you to take on greater challenges.

The First Descendant isn’t just your average looter shooter. Sure, it can be grindy, and while some of its bosses are just obstacles on your way to grab some good gear, others will seriously knock you down a peg or two unless you’re prepared.
Seriously, some of these bosses can push your skills to the limit. While some players might enjoy the challenge of soloing tough encounters, there are certain bosses in The First Descendant you’ll want to tackle with your friends.
A teammate can make these fights more manageable but also a lot more enjoyable, if you’re not the type to enjoy slamming your head against a brick wall over and over again. Here, we take a look at five of the hardest bosses in the game that you’ll want a friend for.

In The First Descendant, many players overlooked a character named Enzo, thinking he was only good for opening vaults. But one Reddit user found out they were wrong after trying out his full potential.
They used Enzo’s maxed-out skill, Enduring Legacy, and paired it with a Firearm Enhancer. This combo turned him into a powerful boss killer, and showed just how powerful he can actually be.
Players Discover Enzo’s True Power in The First Descendant
A user took to the r/TheFirstDescendant to share their discovery. They noticed a huge change, with Enduring Legacy giving them a 96% critical hit chance. Plus, the extra 15% weak point damage was a nice bonus to them.
Enzo is so Op.

Every character in The First Descendant benefits from weapon upgrade Modules, but perhaps the best ones to farm from missions are the ones called Mental Focus. These Modules increase the Firearm Attack stat of whatever weapon your Descendant wields temporarily, giving you a huge damage buff. This enhancement stacks upon itself as well, allowing you to greatly empower a character build through multiple uses of this Module type.
Mental Focus Modules can be leveled up to ten times to reach their maximum buff on one of your weapons, increasing a character's Firearm Attack a little more each time. This upgrade lasts for two seconds but is removed when you reload or change a firearm with the Module equipped. When wielding an Ultimate weapon in The First Descendant, you'll never want to switch off a tool with this enhancement.
Upgrades for Modules require Gold and Kuiper Shards, so take some time...

Since its release, The First Descendant has continued to ride the high wave, amassing a large player count and a dedicated community of players. However, most who have spent enough time with the game understand that it isn’t yet a perfect experience by any stretch of the word.
For instance, the game’s combat, although inspired by other, more refined live service titles like Warframe, can be downright frustrating at times. That comparison is essential, as one of the combat’s most prominent issues can easily be overcome if only the devs decided to take on one crucial element of Digital Extremes’ juggernaut.
Warframe Holds the Key to the First Descendant’s Knockdown Problem
Although most players of the game are now used to the slight jank and are dominating bosses by coming up with a new meta almost every other day at this point, it is undeniable that...
