What Happened To The Cast Of The Princess Bride?
Image
With a legacy spanning decases, it's still inconceivable that anyone could dislike "The Princess Bride." Released in 1987, the fantasy romantic comedy was written by William Goldman (already a two-time Academy Award-winner for his work on "All the President's Men" and "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"), directed by Rob Reiner (then best known for directing "Stand By Me" the year prior), and featured a miraculously stacked cast. Though it did just okay at the box office, the film has since become a cult classic that -- in large part through the continued success of this cast -- retroactively vindicates those who were early champions of its brilliance.

Whether senior actor or child star, veteran of the screen or relative newcomer, everyone with a role in the core ensemble of "The Princess Bride" brings something wildly unexpected to their individual role no matter how small. Incidentally, the vast majority of these...

The Most Epic Fumble: Young Justice Was Canceled for the Same Reason as Generator Rex
Image
There have been a slew of cartoons to come out on Cartoon Network and other networks that featured animated shows that were killed for no apparent reason. Despite smooth productions, great storylines, and even sizable viewership, shows like Young Justice, Generator Rex, ThunderCats, and Green Lantern: The Animated Series just did not have what it takes to keep them on air.

Generator Rex || Credit: WB

While these shows had a lot of good storylines and great viewership behind them, action cartoons, especially the likes of Generator Rex and Ben 10, actually need one pillar to work out more than anything else: merchandise. The products that sustained these shows were usually toys, the sales of which would determine whether the investment behind the shows that were supposed to sell them was even worth it.

These shows usually focused on introducing as many toy figures as possible Young Justice || Credit: WB...

Canceled Cartoon Network TV Shows That Ended On A Cliffhanger
Image
Fans of animated shows like Generator Rex and Sym-Bionic Titan continue to passionately advocate for a second chance. The cancellation of shows like Victor and Valentino and Infinity Train left viewers with unresolved cliffhangers and open storylines. Despite the abrupt endings, dedicated fan communities keep theories, fan fiction, and petitions alive for these beloved series.

Animation is a complex art form that demands a lot from a group of passionate artists, so when big studios like Cartoon Network pull the plug on a show, its particularly disappointing when it ends on a cliffhanger. Shows like Generator Rex and Sym-Bionic Titan left fans hanging with big stories still in play. These shows were cut off just as they were about to dive into exciting new plots, leaving viewers feeling like the shows deserve a second chance. Even though these series ended too soon, the unanswered questions and unfinished stories still stick with fans even decades later.

“The new generation will never experience peak animation”: Even Robert Downey Jr.’s Avengers: Endgame Can Never Top Cartoon Network’s Ben 10/Generator Rex Crossover from 13 Years Ago
Image
You know what was perhaps the biggest, most climactic crossover in history? Here’s a hint, it’s not the portal scene from Avengers: Endgame, and don’t even think about Deadpool & Wolverine. It was when Ben 10 joined forces with Rex in the one-hour-long special Generator Rex episode that aired on Cartoon Network.

Avengers: Endgame (2019) | Marvel Studios

The amalgamation of that animated duo was so apical that it is still held special in many a millennial’s heart (and perhaps some Gen Z with good taste). And rightly so.

Avengers: Endgame Has Nothing Over the Ben 10 x Rex Team-Up

Captain America’s fabled ‘Avengers, assemble!’ command alone evoked a sense of harmony and an influx of overwhelming emotion in a fandom comprising more than thousands of people from all around the world.

After all, the Russo brothers’ Avengers: Endgame – which saw Robert Downey Jr.‘s tearful end as Iron Man...

Interview with Jacob Semahn,Writer of Image Comics’ ‘Goners’
This past week I had the pleasure of interviewing Jacob Semahn, the writer on the upcoming supernatural mystery series Goners from Image Comics. Before working on Goners, Semahn was a producer on American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance. He is currently working in animation for Man of Action and has written screenplays for Marvel’s Avengers Assemble and Ultimate Spider-Man shows. The basic premise of Goners (from the Image Comics solicit) is a “bold new historical fantasy mystery about a very peculiar family, the Latimer Family, who have been humanity’s lone defense against paranormal assault throughout history”.

Sound on Sight: What got you interested in the comics medium? What was the first comic that you remember reading?

Jacob Semahn: The first comic I ever read was Infinity War #1. I picked it up at 7/11 when I was a kid. I think I might have been nine,...

Thunderbirds are Go! blends old and new for return of classic series
ITV's new series brings in Rosamund Pike as voice of Lady Penelope, with David Graham returning as chauffeur Parker

Rosamund Pike will provide the voice of Lady Penelope in the new ITV version of Thunderbirds in a cast that also includes Fonejacker's Kayvan Novak.

However, some things remain the same: David Graham, who provided the distinctive nasal tones of Lady Penelope's chauffeur, Parker, in the original 1960s children's series, is to reprise the role.

Pike, the actor best known for her role as a double agent opposite Pierce Brosnan in James Bond film Die Another Die, said she was "very excited to bring Lady Penelope's wry wit and taste for adventure to a new generation".

The new series, which will be called Thunderbirds are Go!, also sees the return of Graham as the voice of Parker. Graham voiced Parker, along with three other puppet characters, in the original series...

Exclusive Genius Interview with Steven T. Seagle and Teddy Kristiansen
Horror fans may know Steven T. Seagle and Teddy Kristiansen from their work on House of Secrets, but they’ve worked together on a number of projects, including It’s a Bird and the recently released Genius. I had a chance to catch up with the both of them at Comic-Con and learned about the real life story that inspired Genius, their creative process, and their thoughts on a Genius movie:

Where did the idea of Genius come from? Was this something you had been thinking about for a while?

Steven T. Seagle: Teddy and I worked together on It’s a Bird, which was semi-autobiographical. It was about my family’s struggle with Huntington’s Disease set against the sci-fi element of a perfect physical being. It was about disease making you a less perfect human and the idea of Superman, who is undefeatable and perfect. That kind...

Full Trailer for Marvel's Avengers Assemble
Ugh. Here's the full trailer for Marvel's new animated series Avengers Assemble, and it just looks like an all-around bad show. You can actually watch the first episode on iTunes for free by clicking here. I wasn't able to sit through the whole thing. I found it annoying. I'm not a big fan of the tone, dialogue, and poor animation. I'm not sure why they didn't use the same team that brought us Earth's Mightiest Heroes because that was a fun show. My kids even enjoyed watching it, but they didn't take to Avengers Assemble either. They lost interest faster than I did, so Marvel is obviously doing something wrong because it didn't hit with my little fan girls, and it didn't hit with me either.

An animated series parallel to the record-breaking blockbuster movie Marvel's The Avengers, "Avengers Assemble" sees Iron Man leading the team of mightiest heroes – Hulk,...

Avengers Assemble - Promo Trailer and New Image
I really enjoyed watching The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. I like the story, animation and character designs for that show. As you know, Marvel and Disney cancelled that series and replaced it with another one called Avengers Assemble. This is our first look at footage from the series, and I've got to say I'm not impressed. I know the show is for kids; I'm just not a big fan of these character designs, the style, or animation. It looks cheap, but maybe that's what they're going for.

An animated series parallel to the record-breaking blockbuster movie Marvel's The Avengers, "Avengers Assemble" sees Iron Man leading the team of mightiest heroes – Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow and newcomer Falcon – who combine their powers to battle threats no single hero could overcome. When the Avengers assemble, evil doesn't stand a chance. The voice cast includes: Adrian Pasdar ("Heroes") as Iron Man,...

Thunderbirds remake is go, say ITV and Hobbit studio
Children's TV series to return in 2015, 50 years after it launched, and will be made with New Zealand special effects team

Thunderbirds are back! The children's TV series will return to ITV in 2015, 50 years after Thunderbird 1 first launched from under the swimming pool on Tracy Island and Parker drove Lady Penelope around in a pink Rolls-Royce, number plate FAB1.

The new series, which has the working title Thunderbirds Are Go!, will be made with the New Zealand special effects studio that worked on Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

Thunderbirds first appeared on ITV in 1965 featuring Gerry Anderson's famous "supermarionation" puppet techniques. Anderson, whose other TV shows included Captain Scarlet, Joe 90 and Space 1999, died on 26 December last year, aged 83.

The 26-part series will be made in collaboration with the Oscar-winning Weta Workshop, which worked on Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, and will...

‘Thunderbirds Are Go!’: ITV Studios To Reboot Classic Series
The UK’s ITV Studios is teaming with New Zealand-based Pukeko Pictures and Weta Workshop to co-produce Thunderbirds Are Go!, an update of the classic kids series that debuted in 1965. Twenty-six half hours have been ordered for air on ITV and Citv in the UK in 2015. The original Thunderbirds was created by Gerry Anderson, who passed away in December. Although it aired for just two seasons on ITV in the 60s, it became an international sensation. In syndication, the high-tech tales of adventurers rocketing around the world to fight evil-doers became a staple of Saturday morning and weekday afternoon programming in the U.S. The series also spawned feature films and inspired South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s Team America: World Police. The new series will be produced using a unique mix of CGI animation and live-action model sets while also paying tribute to the legacy of...

Award-winning comics writer Joe Kelly has crafted an engaging, thought-provoking, action-packed thriller in adapting his 2001 Action Comics #775 classic tale (“What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way”) into Superman vs. the Elite, the latest DC Comics Premiere Movie.

Produced by Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Marvel Animation Officially Cancels Avengers Emh and Renews Spider-man
We've been hearing rumors for awhile that Marvel would be cancelling their awesome animated series Avengers Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Today that rumor has been confirmed; the series is gone. It's a shame that this only got two seasons, as it was one of the best animated series on TV. The news was confirmed in a press release by Marvel that also revealed the show would be replaced by another Avengers series called Marvel's Avengers Assemble.

The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes won’t be renewed for the 3rd Season. Marvel Animation will present their newly developed series Marvel’s Avengers Assemble in 2013.

The image above was released to promote the new series, which looks like it's going to fall more in line with Joss Whedon's Avengers film. I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more Marvel characters introduced in the series though. We should get some more details at this year's Comic-Con.

ABC Announces Fall Schedule – Get A Peek At What’s Coming
Terry O'Quinn as Gavin Doran in "666 Park Avenue" (ABC/Andrew Eccles)

ABC‘s slate of new shows for fall has a strange flavor to it, and it’s going to be a bumpy ride. The network has about as many new shows as returning ones (if you count all the midseasons), and a good percentage of the returning offerings are a year old or less, making this look a bit like a rebuilding year.

Not only is it a rebuilding year, but it’s the year of bringing back every actor and actress who ever had a decent run on a show before. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a network’s new season slate that was so crammed with people returning from something else. If you can’t make it good, I suppose, make sure viewers recognize the faces.

It’s tricky to get a solid feel...

J.M. Ken Niimura – Giants was that Wasabi, time for SPiCY Tuna? – Jan-Ken-Pon
There probably aren’t too many U.S. comics in recent memory that was met with such universal acclaim from just about anyone who picked it up as was Joe Kelly and J.M. Ken Niimura’s 2008 offering, I Kill Giants from Image Comics. While Joe Kelly, the writer of the series, has hardly been absent since, being one of the co-creators of Cartoon Network’s Ben 10 and Generator Rex, we unfortunately haven’t since seen a whole hell of a lot of the fantastic art of J.M. Ken Niimura, at least on Western shores. So what has he been up to? At least one of the projects is an offering of SPiCY Tuna.

It should be noted that Niimura’s aforementioned collaboration with Kelly has garnered him some international acclaim, and SPiCY Tuna itself is about a clash between Spanish and Japanese culture, a personal dichotomy that...

Toy Review: Ben 10 Alien Collection 10cm action figure – Rath
If you’re a long time Blogomatic 3000 visitor you’ll probably know that I’m a bit of a comic fan, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I’m a fan of “Man of Action”, the group comprised of comic writers and artists Duncan Rouleau, Joe Casey, Joe Kelly and Steven T Seagle, who created Ben 10 and Generator Rex, and have been involved in the new Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon.

For those of you not down with the kids, Ben 10 is a cartoon about a boy who acquires a watch-like alien device called the Omnitrix which allows him to transform into a range of bizarre looking alien creatures. Ben 10 has since been succeeded by Ben 10: Alien Force, Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, and Ben 10: Omniverse. Each new cartoon series has seen the characters mature, introduced or altered existing relationships, introduced new villains and alien transformations.

New Line Cinema to Adapt Image Comic Book Series The Great Unknown

Everything Zach Feld imagines – impossibly – shows up somewhere else. It’s as if someone is reading his mind and selling his incredible thoughts to the highest bidder. His friends and family think Zach is a freeloader with delusions of grandeur – making up one weird paranoiac story after another to defend his directionless life. They might be right. But when Zach begins to dig deeper into the mystery,...

‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ Premieres on Disney Xd April 1, Kicks Off New Marvel Block
Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man (2002)
Marvel animation fans are probably well aware G4 has been running anime-inspired cartoons featuring the X-Men, Iron Man and, starting this week, Blade, on Friday nights. However, based on the time slot alone, it's pretty obvious those shows are skewed to an audience slightly older than kids. Lest we forget, Marvel's a Disney company now, so it seems like a no-brainer for the Mouse to air some younger themed Marvel content themselves. That's exactly what's happening this April. Disney Xd will premiere a Marvel block of programming called the Marvel Universe on April 1 with the launch of Ultimate Spider-Man. Read more after the jump. Marvel announced this on their official website [1] after a press conference at the Television Critics Association Press Tour. Besides the Ultimate Spider-Man, which features the voices of Drake Bell as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Chi McBride as Nick Fury, Jk Simmons reprising his role as J. Jonah Jameson,...
