A television adaptation of the theatre play "Virtasen Masa", written by Jarkko Laine. The play premiered in February 9, 1972 at the Turku City Theatre (Finnish: Turun kaupunginteatteri). Both the play and the television film are directed by Veli-Matti Saikkonen. Lead actors Matti Varjo and Kaarina Vahtonen reprise their roles in the television version. In 1972, Saikkonen and Laine also collaborated in a theatre play "Konstaapeli ja Suhonen" (premiere in December 13 at the Turku City Theatre).
In 1973, a Finnish television films "Virtasen Masa" and Reidarin värilliset aistimukset (1973) participated at the 25th International "Prix Italia" Competition for Radio and Television in Venice, Italy.
