A new year brings a new Tyler Perry project. The filmmaker's first 2020 title is A Fall from Grace, a romantic thriller with a legal drama slant and an undercurrent of violence. The first trailer is less of a mood-setter and more of a condensed plot synopsis, but if you're a fan of Perry's work, it should be on your radar. The Netflix movie boasts a cast and creative team composed largely of people of color, including cinematographer Terrence Laron Burke (BlacKkKlansman). Now that's certainly not a first for a Perry production but it's …...

Netflix isn’t messing around in 2020. Not a studio willing to wait around for everyone to slowly awake from the post-holiday coma, the streaming service is hitting the ground running in the new year. Series like “Dracula” are premiering this week, along with a number of other shows, and on the film side, January marks the debut of Tyler Perry’s first Netflix outing — “A Fall From Grace.”

Exclusive: Starz has given a pilot green light to half-hour comedy Run the World, which has cast Amber Stevens West (The Carmichael Show) and Bresha Webb (Marlon) as two of its four leads. The project hails from Boomerang writer Leigh Davenport; Dear White People co-showrunner Yvette Lee Bowser; and Lionsgate TV, where Bowser is under an overall deal. Millicent Shelton is set to direct.
Created, written and executive produced by Davenport, Run the World is the story of a group of four black, vibrant, fiercely loyal best friends who work, live and play in Harlem as they strive for world domination. At its core, it’s an unapologetically female show about friendship and not only surviving — but thriving together.
West will play Whitney, the kind of woman who’s so perfect it’s driving her insane. She’s a type-a investment banker who never misses a SoulCycle class...

She is discussing the latest Emmy ruling that FX’s “American Horror Story: Apocalypse” will contend in the drama categories for the 2019 awards after the seven prior seasons competed as limited series. She joins a cast that also includes Kaya Scodelario, who was announced as the series lead on Thursday, taking over the role originally held by Emma Roberts. Though it would be impossible for Jennifer Lynch.s career to perfectly mimic that of her father David Lynch, the amount of eccentricities is similar. The most bizarre love story ever, 1993.s Boxing Helena, wasn.t followed up for fifteen years until 2008.s Surveillance, and since then she.s been fairly consistent in releasing non-critical darlings that retain the darkness of her father.s work with few of the quirky nightmarish qualities. The Hollywood Reporter states the elder Lynch will play the father of the lead character, a St. Louis homicide detective tracking down a serial killer. Behind the camera, David Lynch is a certified phenomenon. In front of it, he remains a little more enigmatic. His cameo credits (“Louie," “The Cleveland Show” and that time they appeared to run out of cast members in “Twin Peaks”) are pretty incongruous with his usual brand of provocative art, and lend a further wacky dimension to his already surreal public persona. Now, he has committed himself to be directed by his daughter, Jennifer Lynch, in a new indie, “A Fall From Grace”, executive produced by Jory Weitz. Ms. Lynch, whose “Boxing Helena” proved something of a critical punchbag, co-wrote the script with Eric Wilkinson. It will be a detective thriller in which Tim Roth is a St. Louis homicide agent in pursuit of a serial killer whose young victims keep cropping up on riverbanks, Laura Palmer-style. Lynch Sr., who will play Roth’s father, remarked upon working underneath his daughter,...

Chained arrives on Blu-ray and DVD next week and I was lucky enough to pose some questions to the film’s director and co-writer, Jennifer Lynch.
The film is a dark and utterly fascinating look at a serial killer and explores a number of interesting questions regarding the psychology of this kind of person. I asked Jennifer Lynch about this, ‘torture porn’, shooting on digital, what’s next and more.
The film is fascinating in the questions it raises about nature vs. nurture. Do you find yourself coming down more on one side of that debate and did making Chained change your views at all or lead you in new directions?
Such a great question. I think the dangerous part of nurture vs. nature is the assumption that it is one or the other. It is so deeply case specific. If we look solely at Bob and Rabbit… Bob’s nurture was so damaging,...

Because, looking forward, 2013 promises to be such a fruitful cornucopia of cinema, we were excited to be able to easily list an additional 100 titles we are eagerly looking forward to catching in the new year. From these 200-101 titles, we’re happy to list several projects featuring the extremely busy Isabelle Huppert, include two English language projects, Ned Benson’s split film project The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby His/Hers and the Niels Arden Oplev film, Dead Man Down (and don’t forget her French projects, a starring turn in Serge Bozon’s followup, Tip Top as well as Guillaume Nicloux’s The Religious).
Additionally, the horror genre should be extremely noteworthy in the coming year, with new projects from Neil Marshall (The Descent), Alexandre Aja (High Tension), Fabrice Du Welz (Calvaire), Lucky McKee (May) and directing team Alexandre Bustillo & Julien Maury (Inside). Jennifer Lynch’s laugh sounds just like you’d expect it to: full of mischievous fun, raspy and more than a little dirty. It’s refreshing to hear that even after her savaged 1993 film debut “Boxing Helena” and a string of spinal surgeries that kept her from making another movie for 15 years, she’s still eager to unleash that laugh, even at her own expense. Her next two films, “Surveillance” (2008) and “Hisss” (2010), failed to find audiences, and “Chained” has run afoul of an Nc-17 rating from the MPAA before it can be released. Nothing has quite gone her way, despite being the only daughter of “Blue Velvet” writer-director David Lynch. Even so, the 44-year-old writer-director is moving forward with her next project, a thriller called “A Fall From Grace” that stars Un Certain Regard jury president Tim Roth as a St. Louis detective tortured by his inability to stop a killer of young.

Tim Roth is currently busy cramming in as much movie-viewing as he can in between meeting with his fellow judges on the Un Certain Regard jury in Cannes. But he’s also locked in a new starring role, signing on to lead Jennifer Lynch’s new film, A Fall From Grace. The movie, written by Eric Wilkinson, finds Roth as a homicide detective tracking down a serial killer. But there’s more to it than that, according to the director. “It’s about a lot of dark, taboo issues, but it’s really a drama about wounds,” Lynch tells The Hollywood Reporter. She’ll be hoping for better luck than with her last effort, Bollywood horror action thriller Hisss, which faced major issues during production (chronicled in documentary Despite The Gods) and arrived to poisonous reviews. The director also has serial killer thriller Chained awaiting release.Roth will next be seen in Arbitrage and Broken.

If Tim Roth can sneak away from his duties as head of the Un Certain Regard jury, he’s likely to be found huddling with director Jennifer Lynch, since he’s been tapped to star in his next project A Fall From Grace, which is looking to begin filming this summer in St. Louis, Mo. This week:
Hancock signs up to The Partner; Rko says halo to The Saint with an Eagle Eye; Jennifer Lynch has A Fall From Grace and The Wolf Pack is back again in The Hangover 3 – but this time they’re $45 million richer!
1. Hollywood loves a good franchise, and studios will often stop at nothing in an attempt to make more cash from something that has been a hit. If stars aren’t willing, they’ll simply recast or throw truckloads of money at actors so that they’ll sign on for more of the same. It appears that Warner Bros. has decided on the latter option, in an attempt to recapture the box office magic of The Hangover and its sequel.

Starting with her first feature, Boxing Helena, Jennifer Lynch has demonstrated the same unflinching attitude towards subject matter that would make most folks run as her father, the legendary David Lynch. So expect more of the same from her next film, the serial killer thriller A Fall from Grace. More after the jump. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jennifer Lynch "will next helm the thriller A Fall From Grace, about a homicide detective tracking a serial killer along the Mississippi River who burns his victims. She wrote the screenplay with Eric Wilkinson, who will produce with Apothecary Films partner David Michaels. Filming will take place in the St. Louis area." "'It has been an incredible...

Though she’s got a few films under her belt, Jennifer Lynch hasn’t exactly enjoyed the easiest time of it in her career. Boxing Helena didn't exactly set the world alight, and her last film, snake-woman horror Hisss, vanished off the radar with little success and barely got released over here. While she has the thriller Rabbit awaiting release, she’s ploughing on to the next, setting up A Fall From Grace. The script, which Lynch wrote with Eric Wilkinson, follows a detective tracking a serial killer who burns his victims along the Mississippi River. It’s partly based on Wilkinson’s trip to the abandoned Old Chain of Rocks Bridge, which stretches over the river near St Louis, and which was the site for a grisly double murder.“It has been an incredible process, writing this piece,” says Lynch in a statement, which got sucked into the Hollywood Reporter’s news hoover.
